Direct surface forming: New polymer processing technology for large light guide of TFT-LCD module

  • The backlight unit (BLU) is used as a light source of TFT liquid-crystalline-display (TFT-LCD) module. In this backlight unit, one of important components is the light guide, which is usually made of transparent polymers. Currently, the screen-printing method is mainly used for the light guide as a manufacturing process. However, it has limitation to the flexibility of three-dimensional optical design. In the present paper a new alternative manufacturing method for the light guide with low-cost is proposed. This manufacturing method is named as direct surface forming (DSF), which is very similar to the well-known hot embossing except for partial contact between mold and substrate. The results of this new manufacturing method are presented in terms of processing condition, dimensional accuracy, productivity, etc.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation-Psychiatric Application and Its Current Status (경두개 직류 자극-정신과적 활용과 현황)

  • Transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) is a clinically safe and effective method of delivering weak electric current to modulate cortical activities. And based on the cumulating scientific evidences, the method is recommended to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders. In this paper, we review the development of TDCS in the rising field of neuromodulation. Then with suggested biochemical and physical mechanism of TDCS, we summarize the reported cases of using TDCS to alleviate major neuropsychiatric disorders. And, in particular, the treatment of MDD is highlighted as an illustrative example of using TDCS. We discuss here the therapeutic potentials of this method in psychiatry. And in closing remarks, we evaluate the current technical limitations and suggest the future directions of this method in both the clinical and research aspects.

  • Direct Instantaneous Pressure Control(DIPC) method of SRM using pressure predict method is presented in this paper. A hydraulic pump system has an inherent defect that its dynamic behavior causes by interaction between the sensor and hydraulic load. It will make sometimes the whole system become oscillatory and unstable. Proposed system integrates direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) and Smith predictor to improve dynamic performance and stabilization. The proposed hydraulic oil pump system is verified by computer simulation and experimental results.

  • A direct differentiationmethod is presented for the shape design sensitivity analysis of axisymmeetric elastic solids. Based on the exisymmetric boundary integralequaiton formulation, a new boundary ntegral equatio for sensitivity analysis is derived by taking meterial derivative to the same integral identity that was used in the adjoint variable melthod. Numerical implementation is performed to show the applicaiton of the theoretical formulation. For a simple example with analytic solution, the sensitivities by present method are compared with analytic sensitivities. As an application to the shape optimization, an optimal shape of a gas turbine disc toinimize the weight under stress constraints is found by incorporating the sensitivity analysis algorithm in an optimizatio program.

A study on applying the direct estimation method to determining maximum acceptable weight in symmetric lifting task (직접추정법의 대칭적인 들기 작업의 최대허용하중 결정에의 적용에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the effectiveness and accuracy of using the direct estimation method were investigated in determining a worker's lifting capacity or the maximum acceptable weight of lifting (MAWOL) of symmetrical fifting tasks in the workplace were investigated. Six lifting tasks involving two vertical fifting start-end points (0-80cm, 47-102cm) and three lifting frequencies (1, 2, and 4 lifts/minute) were studied. Ten young, male subjects performed the six lifting tasks to predict the MAWOL using the psychophysical method and the direct estimation method. The main results indicated that there were no significant differences between the MAWOLs determined by the two methods except for the lifting frequency of 4 lifts/minute. Analysis of variance was performed on the task rating data to check the consistency of the task rating across subjects, which revealed no significant difference.

BRIEF REVIEW OF LATEST DIRECT NUMERICAL SIMULATION ON POOL AND FILM BOILING

  • Despite extensive research efforts, the mechanism of the nucleate boiling phenomena is still not clear. A direct numerical simulation of the boiling phenomena is one of the promising approaches in order to clarify its heat transfer characteristics and discuss their mechanism. Therefore, many DNS procedures have been developed based on recent highly advancing computer technologies. This brief review focuses on the state of the art in direct numerical simulation of the pool boiling phenomena over the past two decades. In this review, the fundamentals of the boiling phenomena and the bubble departure and micro-layer models are briefly introduced, and then the numerical procedures for tracking or capturing interface/surface shape such as the front tracking method, level set method, volume of fluid treatments, and other methods (Lattice Boltzmann method, phase-field method and so on) are briefly reviewed.

  • Identification of systems operating in closed loop has long been of prime interest in industrial applications. The fundamental problem with closed-loop data is the correlation between the unmeasurable noise and the input. This is the reason why several methods that work in open loop fail when applied to closed-loop data. The prediction error based approaches to the closed-loop system are divided to direct method and indirect method. Both of direct and indirect methods are known to be applied to the closed-loop data without critical modification. But the direct method induces the bias error in the experimental frequency response function and this bias error may deteriorates the parameter estimation performance

  • In this paper, aging diagnosis method of CV cable was investigated. CV cable was designed for the sake of using during 30 years. Therefore it was important to evaluate the cable's remaining life because CV cable used for power transmission line since 1970's. CV cable was mainly installed at the underground owing to the environmental condition. If the cable accident occurred, it needs the much time for the accident recovery and the much damage at the industrial activity. therefore, this paper should study the direct leakage current method, a sort of the cables' aging test method

  • There have been various direct or indirect methods to measure the characteristics of plasma. Comparing to direct method like Langmuir probe method, indirect measurements which give information as some external parameters like current, voltage, or phase are easier to obtain. In this research, an indirect method to measure averaged plasma density in a transformer coupled plasma(TCP) has been proposed and evaluated. With a simple analytic model connecting electrical characteristics to plasma impedance, direct measurement via double Langmuir probe has been performed. This result may play a meaningful role to diagnose TCP or similar plasma sources

Determination of Dynamic Parameters of Agricultural Tractor Cab-Suspension by Modal Analysis (모드 해석을 이용한 트랙터 캡-현가 장치의 동적 파라미터 결정에 관한 연구)

  • This study was intended to determine the inertia , damping and stiffness properties of the cab-suspension of agricultural tractors by applying the direct system identification method (DSIM). Since the rigid and elastic modes of the cab-suspension are not likely to be separated clearly, direct application of the DSIM may result in large computation error. To solve such a problem, a method of locating mass center of the cab were determined by assuming the behavior of the cab-suspension is a rigid body motion. The dynamic parameters of the cab-suspension were then determined by applying the DSIM with the known coordinates of the mass center. The constraints of spatial matrices of the cab-suspension also make the algorithm for the DSIM perform better. The values of dynamic parameters determined by this method agreed well with those determined by the experiment.
