In this paper, a new torque predictive control method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor is developed based on an extended rotor flux. Also, a duty ratio prediction method is proposed and allows the duty ratio of the active stator voltage vector to be continuously calculated. The proposed method makes it possible to relatively reduce the torque ripple under the steady state as well as to remain the good dynamic response in the transient state. With the duty ratio prediction method, the magnitude and time interval of the active stator voltage vector applied can be continuously controlled against the varying operation conditions. This paper shows a comparative study among the switching table direct torque control(DTC), the SVM-DTC, conventional torque predictive control, and the proposed torque predictive control. Simulation results show validity and effectiveness of this work.
In-wheel motor system gets the driving force from direct-driven motor in the wheel of electric vehicle. It is known as good system for vehicles, from an efficiency, packaging, handling and safety. This paper describes motor and inverter technologies, system configuration and control algorithms for in-wheel type electric vehicle. It is necessary to control on an interrelation perspective because this system drives two motors at same time. In system design, IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) including a wide operating range and high-speed rpm is used and flux weakening control is performed in constant power range. Under the torque command from the host controller, auto control box, inverter's output torque is calculated with using torque estimation technique and applied to actual vehicle driving system. It is verified that the configuration and the algorithm are suitable for the in-wheel motor system.
Stator core loss has significant adverse effects when an induction motor is controlled by the conventional vector control method. Therefore, taking core toss into account should make it possible to control the torque very precisely. This paper proposes a speed sensorless vector control method for an induction motor at optimum efficiency and high response taking core loss account. The proposed vector control system consists of a speed adaptive rotor flux observer which takes core loss into account and employs a direct vector control which compensates for the influence of core loss. Also, in this paper, a vector controlled induction motor with a deadbeat rotor flux controller is developed. The method ensures optimum efficiency in the steady state without degradation of the dynamic response. The validity of the proposed technique is confirmed by simulation results for induction motor drive system.
This paper aims to improve the performance of conventional direct torque control (DTC) drives proposed by Takahashi by extending the idea for 5-level inverter. Hybrid cascaded H-bridge topology is used to achieve inverter voltage vector composed of 5-level of voltage. Although DTC is very popular for its simplicity but it suffers from some disadvantages like- high torque ripple and uncontrollable switching frequency. To compensate these shortcomings conventional DTC strategy is modified for five levels voltage source inverter (VSI). Multilevel hysteresis controller for both flux and torque is used. Optimal voltage vector selection from precise lookup table utilizing 12 sector, 9 torque level and 4 flux level is proposed to improve DTC performance. These voltage references are produced utilizing a hybrid cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter, where inverter each phase can be realized using multiple dc source. Fuel cells, car batteries or ultra-capacitor are normally the choice of required dc source. Simulation results shows that the DTC drive performance is considerably improved in terms of lower torque and flux ripple and less THD. These have been experimentally evaluated and compared with the basic DTC developed by Takahashi.
This paper presents performance evaluation of an Integrated Starter-Alternator (ISA) prototype with an Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) synchronous machine under sensor-less operation. To attain a high starting torque at zero speed and in subsequent extremely low speed range, a hybrid signal injection method is proposed. At higher speed, an improved stator flux observer is used for the stator flux estimation. This observer is able to produce accurately-estimated stator flux linkage for high performance Direct Torque and Flux Control (DTFC) implementation. The sensor-less DTFC IPM synchronous machine drive takes full advantage of the capacity of the power converter and fulfills the control specifications for the ISA. The trajectory control algorithm responds rapidly and in a well behaved manner over a wide range of operating conditions. The experimental results verify the feasibility and advantages of the system.
This paper presents a sensorless direct torque control (DTC) combined with sliding mode approach (SM) and space vector modulation (SVM) to achieve mainly a high performance and reduce torque and flux ripples of a parallel-connected two five-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive system. In order to increase the proposed drive robustness and decrease its complexity and cost, the rotor speeds, rotor positions, fluxes as well as torques are estimated by using a sliding mode observer (SMO) scheme. The effectiveness of the proposed sliding mode observer in conjunction with the sliding mode control based DTC is confirmed through the application of different load torques for wide speed range operation. Comparison between sliding mode control and proportional integral (PI) control based DTC of the proposed two-motor drive is provided. The obtained speeds, torques and fluxes responses follow their references; even in low and reverse speed operations, load torques changes, and machines parameters variations. Simulation results confirm also that, the ripples of the torques and fluxes are reduced more than 3.33% and 16.66 %, respectively, and the speed overshoots and speed drops are reduced about 99.85% and 92.24%, respectively.
This paper presents an implementation of Direct torque control(DTC) of Reluctance Synchronous Motor(RSM) drives for an industrial servo drive system with stator current space vector. The estimation of the stator flux magnitude are obtained by using the neural network from measuring the modulus and angle of the stator current space vector. The develolled digitally high-performance control system are shown a good response characteristic of control results and high performance features using 1.0kW RSM.
The Direct Torque Control (DTC) technique for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) is receiving increased attention due to its simplicity and robust dynamic response when compared with other control techniques. The classical switching table based DTC results in large flux and torque ripples in the motors. Several studies have been reported in the literature on classical DTC. However, there are only limited studies that actually discuss or evaluate the classical DTC. This paper proposes, novel switching table / DTC methods for PMSMs to reduce torque ripples. In this paper, two DTC schemes are proposed. The six sector and twelve sector methodology is considered in DTC scheme I and DTC scheme II, respectively. In both DTC schemes a simple modification is made to the classical DTC structure. The two level inverter available in the classical DTC is eliminated by replacing it with a three level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter. To further improve the performance of the proposed DTC scheme I, the available 27 voltage vectors are allowed to form different groups of voltage vectors such as Large - Zero (LZ), Medium - Zero (MZ) and Small - Zero (SZ), where as in DTC scheme II, all of the voltage vectors are considered to form a switching table. Based on these groups, a novel switching table is proposed. The proposed DTC schemes are comparatively investigated with the classical DTC and existing literatures through theory analysis and computer simulations. The superiority of the proposed DTC method is also confirmed by experimental results. It can be observed that the proposed techniques can significantly reduces the torque ripples and improves the quality of current waveform when compared with traditional and existing methods.
Belt-driven Starter Generator (BSG) differs from other mild hybrid systems as the crankshaft of vehicle are not run off. Motor permits a low-cost method of adding mild hybrid capabilities such as start-stop, power assist, and mild levels of regenerative braking. Wound rotor synchronous motor (WRSM) could be adopted in BSG system for HEV e-Assisted application instead of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). In practice, adequate torque is indispensable for starter assist system, and energy conversion should be taken into account for the HEV or EV as well. Particularly, flux weakening control is possible to realize by adjusting both direct axis components of current and field current in WRSM. Accordingly, this paper present an off-line current acquisition algorithm that can reasonably combine the stator and field current to acquire the maximum torque, meanwhile the energy conversion is taken into consideration by losses. Besides, on account of inductance influence by non-uniform air gap around rotor, nonlinear inductances and armature flux linkage against current variation are proposed to guarantee the results closer to reality. A computer-aided method for proposed algorithm are present and results are given in form of the Look-up table (LUT). The experiment shows the validity of algorithm.

This paper describes a novel Direct Torque Control (DTC) method for adjustable speed Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) drives which is supplied by a two-level Space Vector Modulation (SVM) voltage source inverter (DTC-SVM) in the rotor circuit. The inverter reference voltage vector is obtained by using input-output feedback linearization control and a DFIM model in the stator a-b axes reference frame with stator currents and rotor fluxes as state variables. Moreover, to make this nonlinear controller stable and robust to most varying electrical parameter uncertainties, a two layer recurrent Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used to estimate a certain function which shows the machine lumped uncertainty. The overall system stability is proved by the Lyapunov theorem. It is shown that the torque and flux tracking errors as well as the updated weights of the ANN are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, effectiveness of the proposed control approach is shown by computer simulation results.
