  • This paper proposes the method to increase the current direct load control program by inspecting the problems of the DLC program. In order to increase the number of the customers participating DLC program, a raise of the base incentive and the direct load control incentive is suggested based on the interruption cost of electric power considering the characteristics of kinds of load.

  • This paper proposes the scheme to improve the current direct load control(DLC) program by inspecting the problems of the DLC program. In order to increase the number of the customers participating DLC program, a reduction of the base incentive and an increase of the direct load control incentive are suggested based on the interruption cost of electric power considering the characteristics of load types and the introduction of demand side bidding is recommended. Secondly, the standards of power system operations is required to control DLC program efficiently for the penalty, interruption times, the number of interrupting loads, notice time for the load interruption and the periods of the DLC program contract.

  • This paper describes a research for activation of diect load control program in competitive electicity market. A direct load control program after the restructuring of electric power industry will evolve to the bilateral information system to derive a voluntary participation of demand side resource.   • The electric utility has the responsibility of reducing the impact of peaks on electricity demand and related costs. Therefore, they have introduced Direct Load Control System (DLCS) to automate the external control of shedding customer load that it controls. Since the number of customer load participating in the DLC program are keep increasing, DLCS operators a re facing difficulty in monitoring and controlling customer load. The existing DLCS needs constant operator intervention, e.g., whenever the load is about to exceed a predefined amount, it needs operator's intervention to control the on/off status of the load. Therefore, DLCS operators need the state-of-the-art DLCS, which can control automatically the on/off status of the customer load without intervention as much as possible. This paper presents an intelligent DLCS using the active database. The proposed DLCS is applying the active database to DLCS which can avoid operator's intervention as much as possible. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed system, variable production rules and intelligent demand controller are presented.

  • Recently, the power load is growing larger and because of the environmental limitation of generation, the expansion of generation facilities are becoming more difficult. For that reason the importance of the demand-side resources come to be higher. One method of the demand-side resource, the DLC Program, has executed, and moreover, the loads which are available to be controlled are increasing. It should be considered of some kinds of power system components such as DLCs, because the fact that using the demand resources will be an important part of the power system. This paper considers the power factor of the load-bus which is shedded in the direct load control program. and then analyze the power system using flow sensitivity and voltage sensitivity. In this paper, we assumed two scenarios through the rank of the load power factor at each bus and to compare and evaluate each case, we used Power World for the simulation.

  • This paper presents direct load control algorithm based locational and electric load characteristics. Direct load control is defined that demand-side management program activities that can interrupt consumer load at the time of annual peak load by direct control of the utility system operator by interruption power supply to individual appliances or equipment on consumer premises. Korean power system is divided into 14-areas considering branches operating in KEPCO, and electric loads are classified into 19 load groups considering interruption costs in this paper. The purpose of proposed method is to decrease social losses by controlling electric loads mainly whose interruption costs are low. It is expected that the proposed algorithm can be used as the countermeasure for the emergency state of the electric power dispatch in a operation point of view.

  • Recently, power supply-demand instability due to the dramatic increase in power usage suchas air-conditioning load at summertime has brought forecasts of decrease in power supply capability. Therefore improving the load factor through systematic load management, in other words, Direct Load Control became necessary. Direct Load Control(DLC) system is kind of a load management program for stabilization of electric power supply-demand. It's purpose is limiting the demand of the demand side selected at peak load or other time periods. The paper presented a Design of Direct Load Controller for control the amount of power demand in demand side. The proposed Controller is cheaper and has ability of storing more power data than pre-existing device.

  • This paper deals with an allocation strategy for the resources of direct load control program, which is considered the operating states in power systems. The existing approaches, load shedding priority algorithm, curtailment payback based algorithm and mixed curtailment algorithm, are based on the uniform allocation strategy. These approaches are not taken into account the operating states in power systems. So, under the critical operating condition, direct load control resource is evaluated by introducing the congestion factor.

  • Direct Load Control(DLC) system is a load management program for stablization of electric power supply-demand. It is a series of acts limiting the demand of selected demand side at peak load or other time periods. Recently, power supply-demand instability due to dramatic increase in power usage such as summertime air-conditioning load has brought forecasts of decrease in power supply capability. Therefore heightening the load factor through systematic load management, in other words, Direct Load Control became necessary. By examining the composition and operation of the DLC system, this paper provides conceptional understanding of the DLC system and help in system research.

  • The electric utility has the responsibility of reducing the impact of peaks on electricity demand and related costs. The existing DLCS have been operated only depend on On/Off signal from the electric utility. That kind of DLCS operating has been successfully used until now. But since the number of customer load participating in the DLC program are keep increasing, On/Off signal control from the electric utility is no longer meets the needs of many different kind of customers. Therefore, In this paper, the author suggest the design of direct load control system using weather sensors to meet the diversity of different customer needs.
