This paper proposes the design and implementation of a direct torque controlled induction motor drive system. The method is based on control of decoupling between amplitude and angle of reference stator flux for determining reference stator voltage vector in generating PWM output voltage for induction motors. The objective is to reduce electromagnetic torque ripple and stator flux droop which result in a decrease in current distortion in steady state condition. In addition, the proposed technique provides simplicity of a control system. The direct torque control is based on the relationship between instantaneous slip angular frequency and rotor angular frequency in adjustment of the reference stator flux angle. The amplitude of the reference stator flux is always kept constant at rated value. Experimental results are illustrated in this paper confirming the capability of the proposed system in regards to such issues as torque and stator flux response, stator phase current distortion both in dynamic and steady state with load variation, and low speed operation.

Direct torque control(DTC) of induction machines is known to offer fast instantaneous torque and flux control with a simple control structure. However, this scheme has two major disadvantageous, namely, a variable inverter switching frequency and a high torque ripple. These problems occur due to the use of hysteresis comparators in conventional DTC schemes, particularly in controlling the output torque. This paper reviews the utilization of constant frequency torque controllers (CFTC) in DTC to solve these problems while retaining the simple control structure of DTC. Some extensions of the work in utilizing a CFTC will be carried out in this paper which can further reduce the torque ripple. This is particularly useful for a system which has a limited/low sampling frequency. The feasibility of a CFTC with an extended carrier frequency in minimizing the torque ripple is verified through experimental results.

This paper presents a detailed realization of direct torque controlled induction motor drive for elevator applications. The drive is controlled according to the well-known space vector modulated direct control scheme (SVM-DTC). As the elevator drives are usually equipped with speed sensors, flux estimation is carried out using a current model where two stator currents are measured and accurate instantaneous rotor speed measurement is used to overcome the need for measuring stator voltages. Speed profiling for a comfortable elevator ride and other supervisory control activities to provide smooth operation are also explained. The drive performance is examined and controllers' parameters are fine-tuned using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The blocks used for flux and torque estimation and control in the offline simulation are compiled for real-time using dSPACE Microlabox. The performance of the drive has been verified experimentally. The results show good performance under transient and steady state conditions.
In this paper, an advanced torque control scheme of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) using modified non-linear logical TSF (Torque Sharing Function) based on the DITC (direct instantaneous torque control) with PWM(Pulse Width Modulation). In the proposed control scheme, a simple calculation of PWM duty ratio, switching rules from DITC and non-linear torque sharing function can reduce the torque ripple with fixed switching frequency. The proposed control scheme is verified by the computer simulations and experimental results.
This paper proposes a DITC(Direct Instantaneous Torque Control of SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) using a novel 4-level converter for smooth torque control and high efficiency. DITC of SRM is very useful for smooth torque control, but the driving efficiency is low due to advanced current that does not produce torque. For the high efficiency control of SRM, fast excitation and demagnetization of phase current are required. A novel 4-level converter and a new control scheme are present to improve the driving efficiency. The proposed DITC of SRM using 4-level converter is verified by computer simulation.
In conventional sinusoidal wave PWM control, torque oscillation is a problem on account of harmonic component. This paper deals with the choice of line-to-line voltage modulation method, which is effective in using DC(direct current) source voltage and in controlling harmonic oscillation, and the pattern to reduce swiching loss through 1/3 pause of switching interral. So, this paper deals with valid realization of harmonic component and high torque response on variable load by simulation and experiments to compensate occurring problems when line-to-line modulation are applied to PWM inverter.
The vector control system of an induction motor is the high performance drive system to achieve the instantaneous torque control. The vector control system is greatly divided into the direct control, and the indirect control that the most widely is used, The indirect vector control needs the rotor time constant, which changes widely according to the temperature, frequency, and current amplitude. The incorrect time constant leads to the saturation of magnetic flux or under-excitation phenomena. As a result, that deteriorate the control performance. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of time constant variation is investigated and its on-line tuning algorithm is proposed. The time constant using the torque angles was calculated and that of the validity of algorithm proposed was proved through the computer simulation and the experiment.
This paper presents a direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) of Switched Reluctance Moto (SRM) with a novel 4-level converter to obtain smooth torque and dynamic performance improvement. The DITC method can reduce the high inherent torque ripple of SRM drive system, but driving efficiency and dynamic performance are somewhat low due to the slow excitation current build-up. Since the 4-level converter can obtain a addition high voltage to get fast excitation current and demagnetization current, so, it can improve dynamic performance easily. As a high performance SRM drive system with low torque ripple and high dynamic performance can be implemented. The validity of proposed method is verified by some computer simulations and comparative experiments.
A forced commutated cycloconverter (FCC) is a direct ac-ac converter capable of providing simultaneous voltage and frequency transformations. In this paper, vector control of an induction motor controlling stator current with forced commutated cycloconverter is presented. The advantage of current control is that the stator dynamics are eliminated and high performance vector control can be achieved. A novel modulation method based on dq transformation techniques is presented. Proposed modulation strategy generates the low frequency modulation function by the instantaneous value of the desired output voltages not by the steady state values of output magnitude and output frequency. PI control and predictive control algorithm for current control are applied, and the validity of proposed method is confirmed through digital simulations. Simulation results of step response and torque distubance and current control are presented.
