Major news organizations in Korea are often accused of intentionally conspiring to advance conservative agendas under the disguise of unbiased reporting. Critics suspect that headlines are frequently abused for a certain framing effect. The widespread use of direct quotation is cited as one area of the abuse in headlines. The present study is an attempt to determine whether the criticism is based on facts. We conducted two separate surveys. First, the headlines on three major Korean newspapers were compared with those on The New York Times, Washington Post, and The Times. Then, we collected from Korean and English speakers factivity judgements for the sentences containing a direct quotation. The results confirm previous studies that Korean newspapers engage in a heavy use of direct quotation in headlines. Moreover, the results partially confirm the popular perception that the common use of direct quotation is a recent phenomenon in Korea. Finally, the study finds that both groups of speakers consider direct quotations more truthful than factive sentences.

Purpose: The Purpose of this study is to compare the fracture strength of 4 kinds of direct composite resins. Methods: his study performed experiments on the fracture strength of direct composite resins after polymerizing 4 kinds of direct composite resins on the MOD cavity standard specimens. Results: The fracture strength of Aelite(Bisco) was the highest at 176.26N(p<0.05). According to post-hoc study with Turkey honest significant difference by multiple comparison on fracture strength test results, there were statistically significant differences between all kinds of direct composite resin. But the statistical difference between Z350(3M) and Spectrum(DP) was not significant. Conclusion: Aelite(Bisco) scored the highest concerning the fracture strength.

Direct tracking problem of moving noncircular sources for multiple arrays is investigated in this study. Here, we propose an improved unscented particle filter (I-UPF) direct tracking method, which combines system proportional symmetry unscented particle filter and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. Noncircular sources can extend the dimension of sources matrix, and the direct tracking accuracy is improved. This method uses multiple arrays to receive sources. Firstly, set up a direct tracking model through consecutive time and Doppler information. Subsequently, based on the improved unscented particle filter algorithm, the proposed tracking model is to improve the direct tracking accuracy and reduce computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed improved unscented particle filter algorithm for noncircular sources has enhanced tracking accuracy than Markov Chain Monte Carlo unscented particle filter algorithm, Markov Chain Monte Carlo extended Kalman particle filter, and two-step tracking method.

A new stress, load and displacement controlled direct shear apparatus has recently been developed at the Hyundai Institute of Construction Technology This direct shear apparatus is capable of testing of rock joint under constant normal stiffness, constant normal stress or constant normal load boundary conditions. This paper describes this direct shear apparatus and illustrates results of shear tests at constant normal stress condition, constant normal load condition and constant normal stiffness condition with dental stones which have a same joint roughness and unconfined compressive strength.

History , achievement and future of direct-wet-rice-seeding technique in Korea and problems encountered in on-farming research were introduced. Some farmers are very eager to lower production cost and save labor. Their effort results in several direct-wet-seeding methods and seeding machines. The design problems and improvement points related to the direct -wet-rice-seeding machines were drawn out of field test.

Matlis posed the following question in 1958: if N is a direct summand of a direct sum M of indecomposable injectives, then is N itself a direct sum of indecomposable innjectives\ulcorner It will be proved that the Matlis problem has an affirmative answer when M is a multiplication module, and that a weaker condition then that of M being a multiplication module can be given to module M when M is a countable direct sum of indecomposable injectives.

본 논문에서는 다양한 멀티미디어 스트림(multimedia stream)을 재생할 수 있는DirectShow SDK를 이용하여, 비디오의 특수효과를 구현하기 위한 변환 필터(Transform filter) 제작 방법에 대해 소개한다. DirectShow는 여러 가지 포맷(MPEG, AVI, MOV, WAV)으로 부호화된 digital movie나 sound를 재생할 수 있는 run-time(.ock)과 dynamic-link library (DLLs)를 제공하여 필터의 제작을 용이하게 한다. 본 논문에서는 디지털 영상 특수효과 중에서 Clip이라는 특수효과를 예로하여 변환 필터를 제작하는 방법을 소개한다. 또한 DirectShow Documentation에서 제공된 변환방법을 수정하여 변환필터의 입력 pin에서 출력 pin으로의 불필요한 복사를 줄임으로써 수행 속도를 개선하는 특수효과 구현 방법을 제시한다.

본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 스트림을 제어하는 표준으로 Microsoft사에서 제안한 DirectShow의 특성을 살펴보고, 디지털 오디오 효과 필터 5가지에 대한 요소를 분석하며, 분석한 자료를 토대로 파라미터 및 기본 기능을 설계한다. 이러한 설계를 바탕으로 DirectShow를 이용하여 디지털 오디오 효과 필터를 구현한다. DirectShow는 윈도 95와 윈도 NT 기반의 멀티미디어 스트림 제어를 COM으로 구현할 수 있게 한다. 따라서 구현되는 필터의 삽입, 삭제, 변경, 등이 용이하게 된다. 이 논문에서 구현한 오디오 효과 필터 5가지는 오디오의 기본적인 특성을 이용하는 필터로서 오디오 필터 구현을 위한 핵심 기술이 많이 이용된 필터라고 할 수 있다.

In this paper, a direct drive scalar robot manipulator is constructed and its mechanical machanism for operation is explained. Also, a motion controller board for the direct drive robot manipulator was developed where the IBM 486 computer is the main controller. For the developed direct drive robot, a force/motion control algorithm based on an active compliance scheme is developed. A preliminary experiment using the developed direct drive for a peg-in-hole job was done by implementing the control algorithm.

Copper (II) salts are used as metallizing agents in the synthesis of new non-genotoxic direct dyes for cotton. Specifically, cotton fabric is dyed with non-genotoxic disazo direct dyes and then treated with copper salts. The complexes are characterized by neutron activation analysis, absorption spectrometry and standard Salmonella mammalian mutagenicity assay, and the after-treated fabrics are evaluated for lightfastness and washfastness. Direct dyes possessing ortho-propoxy and ortho'-hydroxy substituted systems formed the corresponding nonmutagenic 1:2 dye:metal complex and undergo significant improvement in lightfastness following metallization.
