King oyster mushrooms are one of the major fresh agricultural products which their exports are increasing every year in Korea. Lycoriella ingenua, is notorious insect pest in agriculture, especially in mushroom production. Larvae of L. ingenua cause mainly direct crop damage and adults are vectors of several dangerous fungal pathogens. In this study, the effects of electron beam, X-ray, and gamma-ray irradiation on the development and reproduction of L. ingenua were evaluated. In addition, to find the optimal dose to control L. ingenua in a box filled with king oyster mushrooms, an empirical experiment was conducted for each radiation. As a result, the development and reproduction of L. ingenua were inhibited at 50 Gy for all electron beam, X-ray, and gamma-ray irradiation. Additionally, at the top, middle, and bottom of the export box filled with king oyster mushrooms, the development and reproduction of L. ingenua were inhibited by electron beam with 150 Gy, X-ray with 100 Gy, and gamma-ray with 50 Gy. These results can be provided as basic data for establishing an integrated quarantine management system when exporting mushrooms. It will also contribute to the safety of agricultural products and the strengthening of export competitiveness.

Interception data pertaining to Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera, Thysanoptera, and Hymenoptera collected at the Korean quarantine border were cross-checked with new recorded species in Korea from 2015 to 2022. Overall, 45,084 interceptions belonging to the six orders were detected, and 545 species belonging to the six orders were newly reported in Korea. Of the 545 species, nine species were recorded as being intercepted at the quarantine border. Among the six orders, Coleoptera, Thysanoptera, and Hemiptera showed high numbers of interception; however, Hymenoptera revealed the highest number in new recorded species. These results indicate that recent newly recorded species in Korea are not subject to inspection at Korean borders and that the current quarantine system needs improvement.

This study was conducted to investigate the distribution pattern, ecological characteristics and life cycle of the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens, BSF). The BSF was widely distributed throughout Korea. The insect was mainly found in the vicinity of and in cattle sheds, manure sheds, living waste dump grounds, and food waste dump grounds. Developmental characteristics of the BSF are as follows: the egg was long oval shaped of 887 ${\mu}m$ in the major axis and 190 ${\mu}m$ in the minor axis; it weighed 24 ${\mu}g$. Female oviposited ca. 1,000 eggs on average; eggs hatched in 81 hours under laboratory condition ($27^{\circ}C$, 60% R.H.). The duration of the larval stage was approximately $15{\sim}20$ days. The size of the last instar larvae was 21 mm. The cuticle of the pupae gradually acquired red-brown color and the size of them was 19 mm. The pupal stage was shorter for females (16 days) than males (15 days). Adults were sized about $13{\sim}20$ mm long and black-colored. The life span of adult insects was $5{\sim}8$ days for the first generation (June${\sim}$July), $7{\sim}10$ days for the second generation (Aug.${\sim}$Sept.), and $13{\sim}18$ days for the third generation (Sept.${\sim}$Oct.). Mating started on the next day of emergence and actively occurred at the third day after emergence. Mating mostly occurred between 10:00 and 16:00 during which light intensity is highest. Egg-laying started on the third day and was most frequent from the fourth to the sixth day after emergence. Similar to mating time, females oviposited mostly between 10:00 and 16:00.
An investigation was carried out to study the diversity of aquatic insects, functional feeding groups (FFGs), habitat oriented groups (HOGs), and species-specific distribution in the Taean area in Korea from June to August, 2015. As a result, a total of 72 species belonging to 30 families and six orders were identified in all the investigated regions. Odonata (22 spp.: 30.56%) was the largest group in species richness followed by Coleoptera (21 spp.: 29.16%), Hemiptera (17 spp.: 23.61%) and Diptera (8 spp.: 11.11%) while for Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera, only two species (2.78%) were found. In addition, Plecoptera and Megaloptera inhabiting clean and flowing waters were not found. In the FFGs, predators (48 spp.: 66.67%) were relatively larger as represented by Odonata, Coleoptera, and Hemiptera, whereas shredders and scrapers were lower in proportion. The dominant groups of HOGs were swimmers (24 spp.: 33.33%), climbers (18 spp.: 25.0%), and sprawlers (12 spp.: 16.67%), which were characterized as aquatic insects community of island. Four species: Cybister lewisianus Sharp, Helophorus auriculatus Sharp, Agrypnia pagetana Curtis, Diplonychus esakii Miyamoto & Lee that are designated as Endangered, Near Threatened, and Vulnerable (Korean Red List) have been found to inhabitthe Taean area. Also, two species belonging to the exportable species group (Ceriagrion auranticum Fraser, Paracercion melanotum (Selys)) and one species belonging to the climate-sensitive biological indicator group (Ischnura elegans (Van der Linden)) were identified. In this study, four significant species including the Endangered are presented on the Korean distribution map based on the information in the national ecosystem survey accumulated for 7 years (2006-2012) by the Ministry of Environment.

Benthic macroinvertebrates were investigated in thermal discharge that flows Buso stream region from December 2015 to February 2016, Korea. Study site was selected for the upstream, downstream relative to the mixing station and mixing station which thermal effluent flows, water quality analysis and benthic macroinvertebrates composition, taxa of EPT-group individuals, analysis of biological water quality. As a result, a total of 4,015 individuals including 50 species, 30 families, 11 orders, 4 classes, and 3 phyla were recognized. Taxa of species is Ephemeroptera 16 species (32.0%) including 6 families, the density composition was highest in 1,848 individuals (46.03%) Diptera. EPT-group occupied during the study period were a total of 1,876 individuals (46.72%) including 32 species and 17 family, lowest in the mixing station for study period. As a results of community analysis, mixing station in the Limnodrilus gotoi and Chironomidae sp.2, which is dominated by the analysis was Ecdyonurus levis, Cincticostella levanidovae, Nemoura KUa. The dominant species showed a difference in the upstream and downstream. In the functional feeding groups, in the upstream and mixing station Gathering-Collectors, downstream it was analyzed that the ratio of the highest Filtering-Collectors and decreased the ratio of Shredders increasing from upstream to downstream. Habitat orientation group is analyzed that accounted for most of the Clingers and Burrowers, from upstream to downstream toward the higher the ratio of Clingers. Biological water quality assessment results were analyzed the worst state in the mixing station with an average 2.73 (${\pm}0.41$). Correspondence analysis, correlation analysis results of water temperature and the cold-water species, as the water temperature increases were analyzed by reducing cold-water species and EPT-group.
Agricultural ecosystem is recognized as a space for providing a variety of services, in addition to the food production that it originally encompassed, such as water purification, biological habitat, air purification, soil conservation, and landscape development. The construction of greenhouses in agricultural landscapes can cause deterioration of ecosystem services because of the increase of impermeable area and loss of biological habitats. This study aimed to compare insect diversity between different types of constructed greenhouses and paddy ecosystems. The target study area was selected by considering the distribution status of horticultural complexes and was classified as Single Vinyl Greenhouse, Multi Vinyl Greenhouse or Glass Greenhouse and they were compared with four paddies. The study locations were in Gu-Mi, Bu-Yeo, Ginje and Jin-Ju. A total of 2,333 individual insects belonging to 9 orders, 38 families, 76 genus, and 80 species were collected. The composition of orders was Hemiptera (22.37%), Coleoptera (18.42%), Hymenoptera (14.47%), Orthoptera (11.84%), and Diptera (10.53%). The average number of collected species were in the order Paddy (39.38 species) > Single Vinyl Greenhouse (35.50 species) > Multi Vinyl Greenhouse (22.50 species) > Glass Greenhouse (24.00 species). The Diversity Index (H') was Paddy (4.76) > Single Vinyl Greenhouse (4.57) > Multi Vinyl Greenhouse (4.12), and Glass Greenhouse (4.12). The Richness Index (RI) was Paddy (7.72) and Single Vinyl Greenhouse (7.03) > Multi Vinyl Greenhouse (4.99) and Glass Greenhouse (5.32). From our results, it can be seen that the biological diversity features of insects decreased when greenhouses are constructed. However, Single Vinyl Greenhouse is noted to promote insect diversity more than that by Multi Vinyl Greenhouse and Glass Greenhouse. Hence, when constructing greenhouses, it is necessary to consider insect habitat to conserve insect diversity.

Biological control of Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) using Diglyphus isaea (Walker) has been evaluated in tomato greenhouse, for three seasonal culture types: spring type (March-July), summer type (June-October) and autumn type (July-December). For spring type, totally 5.8 $individuals/m^2$ of D. isaea has been released at six times from late April, when the density of L. trifolii was about 1.0 individuals/plant. Corrected mortality of Liriomyza trifolii caused by parasitoids was 97.6% at early July, and the proportion of D. isaea was 88.9% of all parasitoids collected in the greenhouse. In the case of summer type, totally 1.8 $individuals/m^2$ of D. isaea has been released at five times from early July, when the density of 1. trifolii was about 0.4 individuals/plant. Corrected mortality of L. trifolii caused by parasitoids was 84.4% during the whole season, but the proportion of D. isaea was very low (only 13.8%). Immigrating parasitoids such as Chrysocharis penthus were synchronized to control the leafminer in the greenhouse. For autumn type, totally 2.7$individuals/m^2$ of D. isaea has been released at four times from mid September, when the density of L. trifolii was about 0.7 individuals/plant. Corrected mortality of f. trifolii caused by parasitoids was 85.7% at mid December, and the proportion of the D. isaea was 83.4%.
We investigated the effects of molting-hormone insecticide tebufenozide on D7 (the day of hatching from egg) larvae of the midge Chironomus riparius in growth developments. D7 instar larvae were exposed test concentrations were chosen control, 10${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$, 30${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$, 60${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ and 100${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ of tebufenozide. In general, dead larvae showed 16% on the next day after insecticide treatments (D12), and observed 44% from D12 to D16 in this exposed days. Dead larvae of C. riparius was abruptly increased on D12 and also continuously increased along the days in 10${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ treatments. The converged day was from D12 to D16 at move 30${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ treatments in this study. Therefore, dead larvae obviously increased along these concentrations of tebufenozide. In control condition,78% of the test individuals have grown the pupae. But the larvae have developed the pupa stage from 5% to 17% of the test organism in 10${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ and 30${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ treatments. And 75% of the test individuals was arrived the adult through the molting process in control condition. While the other condition was rarely observed the adult. Usually, the emerged period of the test individuals was gathered the D26-D29 in control. The dead pupa showed from D19 to D20 in 30${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ treatments, D32 in control and D33 in 10${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ treatments. The observed periods of dead pupa were D32-D34 in control and D33-D37 in 10${\mu}g \;L^{-1}$ treatments. Consequently, due to molting hormone disruption, development of midge was postponed relatively low concentration such as 10 treatments of tebufenozide.
We investigated the effects of molting-hormone insecticide tebufenozide on fourth larvae of the midge C. flaviplumuon in growth development from fourth-instar to adult. Fourth-instar larvae were exposed test concentrations were chosen control, 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$, 30 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$, 60 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$ and 100$\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$. In control and 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$, 10~20% individuals succeed adults while low emergence rates were observed surplus 30 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$. Death larvae appeared a various day along the concentration. We observed the converged day: control, 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$, 30 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$ and 60~100 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$ were day 4 to day 18, day 13 to day 16, day 9 to day 17 and day 9 to day 15, respectively. Therefore we concerned a tendency that exposure concentration was high, death period was short. Also, due to molting hormone disruption, development of midge was postponed relatively low concentration such as 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$. The converged days of pupa stage revealed control, 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$, 30 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$ and 60~100$\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$ were day 11~15, day 16~20, day 9~15 and day 5~9, respectively. About 10% individuals grow up the pupa-stage in 60~100 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$ condition. Sex ratio of the emerged adults was not different in this study. Death pupae frequently appeared in day 13~16 in control, day 6~23 in 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$, day 13~16 in 30 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$ and day 6~16 in 60~100 $\mu\textrm{g}$$L^{-1}$.
Culex pipiens complex larvae were found at the septic tanks in Busan and Ulsan cities located in South-eastern area of Korean peninsula. The larvae were collected in 25, 35 and 75 septic tanks out of 3,527, 622 and 1,111 septic tanks which the breeding rates were averages of 0.7%, 5.6% and 6.8% in Busan from January to May, 2003; Busan from February to March, 2004; and Ulsan from January to April, 2005, respectively. The average numbers of the mosquitoes in the tanks were 38.8, 14.9 and 13.7 larvae/dip with a 355-ml dipper. The larval densities were from 25.4 larvae/dip in January to 43.7 larvae/dip in April. 2003 which were not significantly different between them. It was the first report to find mosquito breeding at septic tink in Republic of Korea. Culex pipiens larvae were found in 6 out of 379 septic tanks at complex buildings (over $2,000m^2$ in size) in Ulsan from June to September, 2005, having an average of 1.6% for mosquito breeding rate. The mosquito larvae were collected in 8 and 530 septic tanks out of 210 and 3,729 septic tanks at large (over 300 homes) and small apartments (below 300 homes) with 3.8% and 14.2% of the average breeding rates, respectively At the septic tanks of private houses for below 50 persons, 708 out of 7,178 septic tan had Cx. pipiens larvae and pupae with 9.9% of the average breeding rate. Total average of the mosquito breeding rate was 10.9% of the investigated septic tanks of residential buildings in Ulsan. The number of mosquito larvae in the septic tanks were 15 to 75 larvae/dip. The bent net sets of septic tanks prevented from mosquito breeding to the rate of 93.1%.
