The plasmaspheric region shows relatively strong longitudinal asymmetry in the sense that the location of the plasmapause and the density distribution significantly vary with respect to local time, and this asymmetry effect has been neglected in previous magnetospheric ULF wave studies. In this study, we numerically examine the MHD wave properties of field line resonances (FLRs) and Pi2 pulsations when the inner magnetosphere is assumed to be asymmetric. We use the dipole magnetic field model, but our density model is based on. observational data from the IMAGE satellite. We assume an impulsive input in the magnetotail, which can be associated with a substorm onset. Our results suggest that local FLRs appear in both the radial and azimuthal oscillations owing to the asymmetry. Plasmaspheric Pi2 signals appear in the compressional component, but they are more strongly affected by ambient plasmaspheric structure than the FLRs. We compare our results with the observational data of Pi2 events.

We have demonstrated a $Ti:LiNbO_3$ electro-optic electric-field sensors utilizing a $1{\times}2$ Y-fed balanced-bridge Mach-Zehnder interferometric (YBB-MZI) modulator which uses a 3-dB directional coupler at the output and dipole patch antenna. The operation and design were proved by the BPM simulation. A dc switching voltage of ~16.6 V and an extinction ratio of ~14.7 dB are observed at a wavelength of $1.3{\mu}m$. For a 20 dBm rf power, the minimum detectable electric-fields are ~1.12 V/m and ~3.3 V/m corresponding to a dynamic range of about ~22 dB and ~18 dB at frequencies 10 MHz and 50 MHz, respectively. The sensors exhibit almost linear response for the applied electric-field intensity from 0.29 V/m to 29.8 V/m.

Local M-H loops have been measured on the free layer of a tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) junction using the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) system, with an optical beam size of about 2 $\mu$m diameter. Tunnel junctions were deposited using the DC magnetron sputtering method in a chamber with a base pressure of 3$\times$10$^{-9}$ Torr. The relatively irregular variations of coercive force H$_c$(∼17.5 Oe) and unidirectional anisotropy field H$_{ua}$(∼7.5 Oe) in the as-deposited sample are revealed. After $200{^{\circ}C}$ annealing, He decreases to 15 Oe but H$_{ua}$ increases to 20 Oe with smooth local variations. Two-dimensional plots of H$_c$ and H$_{ua}$ show the symmetric saddle shapes with their axes aligned with the pinned layer, irrespective of the annealing field angle. This is thought to be caused by geometric effects during deposition, together with a minor annealing effect. In addition, the variation of root mean square (RMS) surface roughness reveals it to be symmetric with respect to the center of the pinned-layer axis, with the roughness of 2.5 $\AA$ near the edge and 5.8 $\AA$ at the junction center. Comparison of surface roughness with the variation of H$_{ua}$ suggests that the H$_{ua}$ variation of the free layer is well described by dipole interactions related to surface roughness. As a whole, the reversal magnetization is not uniform over the entire junction area and the macroscopic properties are governed by the average sum of local distributions.

PVDF as a semicrystal polymer, having a structure with C-F dipole moments, has been widely investigated because of its excellent chemical stability, mechanical strength, and ferroelectricity. In this study, ferroelectic ${\beta}$ type - PVDF layer was prepared by using an electrostatic spray deposition method and the effects of the addition of Ni-nitrate in precursor solution on the properties of PVDF layer were evaluated. Crystallinity and chemical structure of the PVDF layer were analyzed by a X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer. Surface structure and fractured cross section of the layer were examined by a field emission-scanning electron microscope. LCR meter was used to obtain the dielectric properties of the layer. As the addition of an inorganic metal salt in PVDF sol, ${\beta}$ type - PVDF crystals were appeared in the hydrated metal salts doped-layer since the strong hydrogen bondings $(O-H{\cdots}F-C)_n$ due to high polarity of OH- were formed.
This paper describes a new magnetization method for non-destructive testing with magneto-optical sensor (denoted as MO sensor) which have the following characteristic : high observation sensitivity, independence of the crack orientation, and precise imaging of a complex crack geometry such as multiple cracks. When a magnetic field is applied normally to the surface of a specimen which is significantly larger than its defects, approximately the same magnetic charge per unit area occurs on the surface of the specimen. If there is a crack in the specimen, magnetic charge per unit area has the same value at the bottom of the crack. The distribution of the vertical component of the magnetic flux density, B$\_$Z/, is almost uniform over the no-crack area (denoted as B$\_$Z,BASE/), while the magnetic flux density is smaller in the surroundings of the crack(denoted as B$\_$Z,CRACK/) If B$\_$Z, BASE/ is a bit larger than the saturated magnetic flux density of the MO sensor (B$\_$s/) , then small magnetic domains occur over the crack area and a large domain over the non-crack area because B$\_$Z,CRACK/ is smaller than B$\_$s/.

A dipolar interlayer can cause dramatic changes in the device characteristics of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) or photovoltaics. A shift in the threshold voltage, for example, has been observed in an OFET where the organic semiconductor active layer is deposited on SiO2 modified with a dipolar monolayer. Dipolar molecules can similarly be used to change the current-voltage characteristics of organic-inorganic heterojunctions. We have conducted a series of experiments in which different molecular linkages are placed between a pentacene thin film and a silicon substrate. Interface modifications with different linkages allow us to predict and examine the nature of tunneling through pentacene on modified Si surfaces with different dipole moment. The molecular-scale structure and the tunneling properties of pentacene thin films on modified Si (001) with nitrobenzene and styrene were examined using scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Electronic interfaces using organic surface dipoles can be used to control the band lineups of a semiconductor at organic/inorganic interfaces. Our results can provide insights into the charge transport characteristics of organic thin films at electronic interfaces.
This study explores and interprets in a new way the complex solvent and the temperature dependence of the NMR shifts for the N-$CH_2$ protons in tris(N,N-diethyldithiocarbamato) iron(III) in acetone, benzene, carbon disulfide, chloroform, dimethylformamide and pyridine. The NMR shifts are interpreted in terms of the Fermi contact interaction and the dipolar term from the multipole expansion of the interaction of the electron orbital angular momentum and the electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum. This analysis yields a direct measure of the effect of the solvent system on the environment of the transition metal ion. The results are analysed in terms of the crystal field environment of the transition metal ion with contributions from (a) the dithiocarbamate ligand (b) the solvent molecules and (c) the interaction of the effective dipole moment of the polar solvent molecule with the transition metal ion complex.
In order to look into the internal structure and electrical properties of insulating Silicone rubbers added reinforcing fillers ; Silica(0-140 phr ), and to examine the behavior of charged particles, and the properties of thermally stimulated current (TSC) are investigated, respectively. From the TSC which are formed by applying the electric field of 2~5 ㎸/mm to specimen at temperature range from -150 to $270^{\circ}C$, the results arp as following. In the case of non-filled specimen, four peaks of $\delta$, $\gamma$ , $\beta$ and u are obtained at the temperature of $-120^{\circ}C$, $-60^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $130^{\circ}C$, respectively and the case of filled specimen, three peaks of $\delta$, ${\alpha}_2$ and ${\alpha}_1$ are observed at the temperature of of $-120^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $130^{\circ}C$, respectively. The origins of these peaks are that, the $\delta$ peak seems to the result from the contribution of side chain methyl radical, and the $\beta$ peak from the depolarization of space charge polarization owing to added imputity during during manufacturing specimens, and the $\beta$ peak from the orientation of $Si-CH_3$dipole, and the ${\alpha}_2$ near the temperature of $130^{\circ}C$ from carboxyl acid that is formed by the thermal oxidation of high temperature.

CubeSat is a satellite platform that is widely used not only for earth observation but also for space exploration. CubeSat is also used in magnetic field investigation missions to observe space physics phenomena with various shape configurations of magnetometer instrument unit. In case of magnetic field measurement, the magnetometer instrument should be far away from the satellite body to minimize the magnetic disturbances from satellites. But the accommodation setting of the magnetometer instrument is limited due to the volume constraint of small satellites like a CubeSat. In this paper, we investigated that the magnetic field interference generated by the cube satellite was analyzed how much it can affect the reliability of magnetic field measurement. For this analysis, we used a reaction wheel and Torque rods which have relatively high-power consumption as major noise sources. The magnetic dipole moment of these parts was derived by the data sheet of the manufacturer. We have been confirmed that the effect of the residual moment of the magnetic torque located in the middle of the 3U cube satellite can reach 36,000 nT from the outermost end of the body of the CubeSat in a space without an external magnetic field. In the case of accurate magnetic field measurements of less than 1 nT, we found that the magnetometer should be at least 0.6 m away from the CubeSat body. We expect that this analysis method will be an important role of a magnetic cleanliness analysis when designing a CubeSat to carry out a magnetic field measurement.

In this paper, system optimization design technique of an impulse ground penetrating image radar (GPIR) in time domain is proposed to improve depth resolution of the system. For the purpose, time domain analysis method of key components such as impulse generator and UWB antenna is explained and by simulation, parameters of each component are determined. In particular, by standardizing the impulse signal, spectrum efficiency of a radiated impulse signal is improved and a U-shaped planar dipole antenna for a UWB antenna is developed. By equipping a parabolic metal reflector with the proposed antenna, external noise is prevented and the ability of radiating an input impulse into ground is improved. In addition, to remove ringing effect of the propose antenna which causes serious degradation of the system performance, resistors are loaded at the edge of the antenna and then Tx and Rx UWB antennas are optimized by simulation in time domain. For images of targets buried under the ground migration technique is applied and influence of tough ground surface on distortion of received impulse signals is reduced using technique of noise and signal distortion reduction in time domain and its time resolution is enhanced. To verify the design optimization procedure, a prototype of an GPIR and an artificial test field are made. Measurement results show that the resolution of the system designed is as good as that of a theoretical model.
