In this paper, a double-layered frequency selective surface(FSS) superstrate was built and tested. The unit cell of the proposed FSS consists of a ring slot and a dipole-shaped structure and shows a complementary frequency response. Each unit cell is printed on two sides of a substrate. By using these double-layered structures, the first resonant frequency of the pass-band can be lowered. As a result, the size of the unit cell is minimized and the spacing between the other cells is reduced. The proposed FSS-dipole composite antenna is designed for the gain enhancement of wide-band code division multiple access(WCDMA) frequency bands(1.92~2.17 GHz) with a low quality factor(Q=0.17). To verify the gain enhancement performance of the FSS, an FSS-dipole composite antenna was created. Although the FSS layer enhances the gain of the primary radiation source of the dipole antenna, the FSS-dipole complex antenna cannot show a uniform gain over the entire desired frequency band. The experimental results show a gain enhancement of 3 dBi with an FSS superstrate in the WCDMA frequency band.
The horizontal magnetic dipole as well as electrical dipole was adopted as a source to compute one-dimensional electromagnetic field behavior in controlled source magnetotellurics. he Cagniard impedances due to horizontal magnetic dipole source, especially phases, showed better frequency characteristics than those due to electric one. The magnetic dipole is inferior to the electric dipole in the point of relatively weak transmitting power at low frequency. But considering high resistivity charateristics of Korean geology, the magnetic dipole source is recommended for the survey up to depth of 500 m. A vector CSMT was introduced to get more reliable data in the area of two- or three-dimensional structures. A software and interpretation technique using polarization ellipses were developed. The technique was tested by synthetic data, which provided theoretical basis of the methodology. Although CSMT has inevitable limitation of investigation depth due to practically possible source-receiver separation, we proposed to use the technique developed in this paper where MT is not available, for example, in extremely noisy area or for shallow target.
In this paper, I propose the algorithm that the location of a magnetic dipole can be detected from the magnetic gradient tensor. I induce the location vector of a vertically magnetizated dipole from the magnetic gradient tensor. Deficit of magnetic moment of magnetic dipole makes the induced location information incomplete. However, if the observation of magnetic gradient tensor would be collected on more points, the algorithm is able to catch the location of the magnetic dipole by clustering the solution of the proposed algorithm. For example, I show that the synthetic case of borehole observation of magnetic gradient tensor can find the source location successively by picking common solution area.

The design and analysis of the transversely fed EMC(electromagnetically coupled) microstrip dipole have been accomplished by using the integral equation and MOM(method of moment)in frequency domain in order to find the current distribution of the dipole. In this study, we proposed the possibilities for design and analysis of EMC micro-strip dipole array antenna by means of calculating the current distribution of each dipole directly using the FDTD(finite difference time domain) method. In this case, we applied the formulation which is the finite difference expression of the Maxwell's integral equation. From the current distribution of each dipole, we calculated the far field electric component and showed that the calculation process and running time was reduced with respect to the method which calculates the radiation field with surface electric and magnetic current density.
This paper describes dipole-dipole apparent resistivity responses from near-surface cavities in otherwise homogeneous earth materials. In applying the dipole-dipole resistivity method to the problem of locating and delineating subsurface cavities, it is important to know apparent resistivity responses not only for conductive bodies but also for resistive ones. Dipole-dipole apparent resistivities for these bodies are calculated by the numerical modeling technique using an integral equation solution. The magnitude and pattern of apparent resistivity is highly dependent on the ratio of body resistivity to background resistivity. In conductive bodies, the largest anomaly of apparent resistivity appears at the outside of the body. In resistive bodies, however, the position of the largest anomaly coincides with the location of the body. The field results gathered at Okinawa, Japan in 1978 showed that peak anomalies occurred at the locations of air-filled cavities.

In this paper, a super wideband printed dipole antenna operating in the band of 1-15 GHz is studied. A semi-circular-shaped dipole element is used to obtain a super wideband characteristic. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the two arms of the semi-circular-shaped dipole and the radius of the semi-circle on the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics. The optimized printed semi-circular-shaped dipole antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of $100mm{\times}100mm$. Experimental results show that the antenna has a desired super wideband characteristic with a frequency band of 1-15 GHz (bandwidth ration 15:1, 175%) for a VSWR < 2.

This paper presents the effects of the position of the split of a split-ring resonator (SRR) on the performance of a composite broadband printed dipole antenna. The antenna is made of two printed dipole arms enclosed by two rectangular and identically printed SRRs. One dipole arm and the SRR are printed on the top side of the substrate, while the other dipole arm and SRR are printed on the bottom side of the same substrate. By changing the position of the split on the SRR, different antenna characteristic values are obtained, namely, for impedance bandwidth and radiation patterns. The split position is thus a critical parameter in antenna design, because it influences the antenna's major performance immensely. Different split positions and their consequences for antenna performance are demonstrated and discussed. The antenna generates linearly polarized radiations, and it is computationally characterized for broadband characteristics. The optimized compact antenna has overall dimensions of 9.6 mm × 74.4 mm × 0.508 mm (0.06λ × 0.469λ × 0.0032λ at 1.895 GHz) with a measured fractional bandwidth of 60.31% (1.32 to 2.46 GHz for |S11| <-10 dB) and a radiation efficiency of >88%.
The validity and efficiency of the roll-along technique widely used in 2-D electrical resistivity survey are analyzed in case of the dipole-dipole and the Wenner-Schlumberger arrays by numerical modelling. The shallow anomalous resistivity bodies are successfully inverted both in the dipole-dipole and in the Wenner-Schlumberger arrays because the shallow data of pseudosection are not omitted by the roll-along technique. However, the deep anomalous resistivity bodies can not be well resolved due
to the skip of observed data which is more significant in the Wenner-Schlumberger array having relatively poor horizontal coverage of obtaining data. Carrying out electrical survey adopting the dipole-dipole array, the skip of data is insignificant because it is unfeasible to expand the electrodes to the maximum electrode separation coefficient($n_max$) owing to low S/N ratio. In case of the Wenner-Schlumberger
array, however, because it is generally feasible to expand the electrodes $n_max$ to the owing to high S/N ratio, it is highly possible that skip of data from the roll-along technique causes significant distortion of inversion results. Therefore, adopting the Wenner-Schlumberger array having deeper median
depth(Edwards, 1977) than do the dipole-dipole array on condition of the same unit electrode spacing( ($a$) ) and $n_max$, it is recommended to determine $a$ based on not $n_max$but $n_prob$free from the skip of observing data and forward electrodes with keeping overlap interval 3/4 of the survey line length in order to reduce the distortion of resistivity structure and perform resistivity survey efficiently. These results are confirmed by numerical modelling.

In this paper, the Magneto-Electric(ME) dipole array antenna with dual-polarization in the X-Band is proposed and it is implemented and measured. The proposed array antenna is composed of 32 single ME dipole antenna and a Teflon PCB. 1 × 1 ME dipole antenna is implemented dual-polarization by radiating vertical polarization and horizontal polarization from two pairs of radiators. 2-port feeding structures are realized by lamination process using LTCC. And, each port independently feeds the radiator through a Γ-shaped feeding strip with isolation between ports. The Teflon PCB used in the antenna array has a 4-layer structure, and 2-port is fed through the top and bottom layers. The λg/4 transformer is applied to the transmission line of the Teflon PCB for impedance matching of the arrayed antenna and the Teflon PCB, and the optimal parameters are obtained through simulation. The measured maximum antenna gains of port 1 was 18.2 dBi, Cross-pol was 1.0 dBi. And the measured maximum antenna gains of port 1 was 18.1 dBi, Cross-pol was 3.2 dBi.

This paper presents the characteristics of an antenna factor of two kinds of EMI dipole antennas with a coaxial cable balun used in the frequency range between 30 and 1,000 MHz. The integral equation for unknown current distribution is solved by the Galerkin's method of moments with piecewise sinusoidal functions. An antenna factor for EMI dipole antennas with the coaxial cable balun is derived by using the power loss concepts. We can realize two kinds of EMI dipole antennas with appropriate antenna factors in the frequency range from 30 to 1,000 MHz: 150-cm dipole length($30{\sim}300 MHz$) and 30cm dipole length($300{\sim}1,000 MHz$). To check th ε validity of the theoretical analysis, the complex antenna factor was measured using by reference antenna methods. It is shown that the calculated complex antenna factor is good agreement with experimental results.
