This study was performed for the purpose of analyzing the effect of tide on the stress-strain behavior in the boundary surface of sea dike embankment. Tide is a dynamic condition, but there are not suitable numerical models to solve the dynamic embankment condition caused by tide. So the analysis was simplified to quasi dynamic as follow. First, seepage by tide was analyzed according to elapsed time, and the results of the analysis at every hour during one periodic cycle time of 12 hours were applied to the pore water pressure conditions of stress-strain analysis with hyperbolic model by Duncan and Chang. The place at which maximum shear strain took place in the analysis result moved up and down repeatedly along the boundary of the dredged sand fill section and the crashed stone filter section. The value of maximum shear strain was large at high water level of tide. This result means that contraction and relaxation occur in turn repeatedly at every specific position along the boundary, and the repeated action compact loose position with sand moved down from the upper position by gravity. The experiment with the small sea dike model showed the result consistent with the numerical analysis. The surface of sea side on the dike collapsed at high water level after a couple of repetition of the rising and falling of water.

Numerical analyses were carried out for studying on seepage problems due to seawater intrusion through the embedded rock layers of the sea-dike. A seepage analysis model, SAMTLE was developed fur two-layer embankment system. The analyses by SAMTLE showed that the size of embedded rock layer had a significant effect on the seepage problems of sea-dike. If the embedded rock layer is longer and thicker, the seepage problems become more serious to water head, seepage rate and safety factor of piping in embankment. On the other hand, if the width of embedded rock layer is equivalent to the sea-dike's bottom width, the water head becomes lower and seepage rate and safety factor of piping are dramatically increasing. This makes another seepage problems such that the fresh water becomes saltier and higher seepage rates result in internal erosion of sea-dike.

In this study, the seepage flow monitoring method by hydaulic head loss rate graph was developed for the purpose of monitoring the seepage flow from the see side or from the lake on sea dike in which seepage force was varied periodically. The hydraulic head loss rate was defined in this method. The value of the rate is in the range from 0 to 1. the value of 0 means perfectly free flow of seepage. the value of 1 means perfect waterproofing. The value of coefficient of determination in the hydraulic head loss rate graph closer to 1 means that the seepage flow way is stable. The value of coefficient of determination in the hydraulic head loss rate graph closer to 0 means that the hole may exist or the piping may be in the progress. The pore water pressure data measured in Saemangeum sea dike was analyzed with the developed method The result showed that the variation of seepage flow state was detected sensitively by this method and the interception effect of sea dike could be estimated quantitatively.
Hydrochloric acid is a highly corrosive toxic substance and requires proper safety to minimize damage in case of leakage. Among the various risk-reduction facilities, the dike is a typical safety facility installed to protect the surrounding buildings and facilities by preventing the external spread of hazardous materials from the storage tank. In this study, the KORA program was used to assume leakage accident of hydrochloric acid storage tank. At this time, the extent of the damage effects of ERPG-2 were assessed for each of the three separation distance between the storage tank and the dike. The study found that the smaller the separation distance between the dike and the storage tank, the smaller the extent of damage caused by hydrochloric acid leakage, and the greater the impact of indoor conditions under the same conditions. Through this process, we are going to assist in selecting locations and installing facilities for new and existing businesses.
We analyzed the harmonic and non-harmonic constant of Geum River estuary to know tidal change of the before and after construction at Geum River estuary dike. As a result of analysis, the harmonic and non-harmonic constant after estuary dike building increased. Also, depth change analyzed at each section by using each year chart data. As a result, scour was occurred in the channel between south and north side guide bank. And accretion was occurred at channel from Kunsan outer port to estuary dike. Tidal change was judged as the effect of construction and dredge, watergate closing at Geum River estuary dike. And water depth change is a cause by effection of Geum River estuary dike construction and, south-north side guide bank, Kunjang country industrial complex furtherance business, seamangeum 4th sea bankment construction.
To verify reinforcing effect of grouting materials on the water leakage region in dike, we performed various hydraulic test and we also applied electric resistivity survey including electrical resistivity tomography(ERT) to see resistivity variation before and after grouting. As the results of dipole-dipole array survey along dike, resistivity distribution after grouting was without noticeable spatial variation. Long term resistivity monitoring results at dike with Schlumberger array electric resistivity survey showed that the decreasing region of apparent resistivity and one dimensional inversion results were the occupied region by grout after grouting. From the ERT using check holes to inspect the effect of grouting, we could find that the ERT is quite effective to evaluate spatially grout region in dike.

The Daehang-ri intertidal flat located the just outside of the Saemangeum dike has been reported to show new-developing flats. Based on the topographic surveys of 21 times from 2000 to 2016 by a leveling method every year, this site clearly shows variation of deposition/erosion in time and space. Deposition has consistently occurred at the rate of +3.75 cm per year at the area along the dike (Zone 1), and this tidal flat is expanding and prograding seaward. In the area of far from the dike (Zone 2), on the other hand, erosion prevails at the rate of -2.38 cm per year, and this zone tends to retreat landward. However, the erosional trend of Zone 2 has slightly slowed down since 2014. As a whole from 2000 to 2016, net deposition is recorded over 3.0 m at the upper beach and the area adjacent to the dike (Zone 1), while erosion up to 1.0 m in Zone 2. In conclusion, the results at the Daehang-ri intertidal flat clearly revealed that its topographic changes were induced by the artificial structures and water masses through its sluice gate. Counter-clockwise gyre newly created after the sea dikes construction probably results in relocating of sediment outside the dike 1 by transportation of materials eroded from the south to the north along the coast.

Overtopping discharge for sea dike having low mound and high wave wall (LMHW sea dike) is investigated with hydraulic experiments in this study. Vertical, Flare and Bullnose type wave walls are selected and Tetrapods (double layer) and Accropode (one layer) are adopted for armour layers of the front slope. The results of the hydraulic experiments are compared to the overtopping formulas for armoured rubble slopes and vertical sea dikes suggested by EurOtop Manual. Predicted overtopping discharges are underestimated as the roughness efficiency factors (γf) of armour blocks suggested by EurOtop are adopted when the overtopping formula for armoured rubble slopes sea dike is used. Meanwhile the predicted overtopping discharges agree well with the hydraulic experiments when the modified roughness efficiency factors redefined by multiplying efficiency factor of the heights of armoured crest berm and wave wall (γAR) are adopted. Return wall effects on a vertical wall (Kortenhaus et al., 2003; Pearson et al., 2004a) and the effects on a smooth dike slope (Van Doorslaer et al., 2015) in EurOtop Manual are investigated for Flare and Bullnose type wave walls. As a results of the comparison between experimental results and 2 formulas, return wall effect on a smooth dike was more valid for LMHW sea dike.

Seasonal variation in species composition of fish in the Saemangeum Reservoir was determined using seasonal samples collected by an otter trawl from April 2006 to February 2007 after the dike construction, and compared with the data obtained during the dike construction in 2001-2002. A total of 35 species, 8,960 individuals and 53,084.4 g of fish were collected during the study. Of the fish collected, brackish and coastal fishes such as Konosirus punctatus, Synechogobius hasta and Repomucenus lunatus, and migrant fishes such as Engraulis japonicus and Scomberomorus niphonius predominated in abundance accounting for 95% in the total number of individuals. Fish species composition and abundance showed a similar seasonal trend to those in the other western coastal waters of Korea. The resident species were mainly collected in spring and in autumn. The number of species and biomass were high in summer by the large amount of catch of migrating species. Catch was low in winter and only 2 species were collected. A brackish and coastal fish, K. punctatus and two migrant fishes, E. japonicus and S. niphonius were abundantly collected after the dike construction. However, the dominant fishes during the dike construction such as Leiognathus nuchalis, Neosalanx jordani and Chaeturichthys stigmatias were rarely collected. Fish density was $1,149\;inds./10,000m^2\;and\;12,644g/10,000m^2$ during the dike construction, and increased 6 times in the number of individuals ($7,467\;inds./10,000m^2$) and 3 times in biomass ($44,237g/10,000m^2$) after the dike construction. Annual species richness (R) and species diversity (H') decreased from R=0.0160 and H'=2.47 during the dike construction in 2001-2002 to R=0.0038 and H'=1.11 after dike construction in 2006-2006, respectively. These changes seemed to be related to the reduction of the saline area and degradation of water quality in Semangeum Reservoir after the dike construction.

It is needed to install a one-way drainage filter to prevent a seepage from lake or river outside of embankment and to promote a drainage from a flood inside of embankment when dikes such as lake dike, river dike, etc are constructed. However, the results of research for one-way drainage filter are insufficient. Therefore, through the field test of one-way drainage filter, this study checked a function of one-way drainage filter with a test of performance. As a result of field test, water flow in dike was blocked in the interception direction of the section that one-way drainage filter was installed, but water passed to the flow allowance direction of the section. Therefore we confirmed the function of one-way drainage filter. Seepage quantity in the flow allowance direction of the one-way drainage filter section was low as 74.6~80.5 % than that in the section without installation of filter because of a reduction effect of seepage with filter. And seepage quantity of field test was low as 64.3~90.0 % than that in results of seepage analysis because the coefficient of permeability of embankment in field is different from the results of laboratory test. In the future, more study will be needed to solve several problems which are related to fix the filter on slide, durability of filter, etc.
