Comparison of Dynamic Characteristics of the tine Start Permanent Magnet Motor and the Induction Motor

  • The line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor has been developed facilitate to the design of the synchronous motor. The rotor of this motor is composed of interior permanent magnets and aluminum bars instead of rotor windings. It is difficult to predict the performance characteristics accurately, because many characteristics are produced by the aluminum rotor bars and the permanent magnets. Therefore, in this paper the dynamic characteristics of the LSPM motor are described and compared via the time-stepped finite element method with those of the cage-type induction motor to find the characteristics of the permanent magnets and the rotor bars in the LSPM motor.

  • The purpose of this study is based on the electromagnet robot with a four-wheel drive which can climb up and down on structures of iron wall instead of human workers. Many of studies strive to develop wall riding-robots in terms of absorption system. However, the system needs additional devices too much to work out as well as electromagnetic wheel system also has much expense to make it. In this regard, this study makes efforts to find the way how to keep steady distance between wheel and wall while using general electromagnet to reduce motor load and to move robot so easily.

  • Recently, due to rapid developments of wireless communication and digital TV, modern society needs to process of aquisition, storage and transmission of much information. So the importance of signal processing is increasing and various digital filters are used in the two-dimensional signal such as image. And kinds of these digital filters are IIR(infinite impulse response) filter and FIR(finite impulse response) filter. And FIR filter which has the phase linearity, the easiness of creation and stability is applied to many fields. In design of this FIR filter, flatness property is a important factor in pass-band and stop-band. In this paper, we designed a 2-D Circular FIR filter using the Bernstein polynomial, it is presented flatness property in pass-band and stop-band. And we simulated the designed filter with noisy test image and compared the results with existing methods.

  • With the development of information technology, the cybersecurity threat continues as digital-related technologies are applied to the instrumentation and control system of nuclear power plants. The malfunction of the instrumentation and control system can cause economic damage due to shutdown, and furthermore, it can lead to national disasters such as radioactive emissions, so countering cybersecurity threats is an important issue. In general, the study of cybersecurity in instrumentation and control systems is concentrated on safety systems, and diverse protection systems perform protection and reactor shutdown functions, leading to reactor shutdown or, in the worst case, non-stop situations. To accurately analyze cyber threats in the diverse protection system, its linked facilities should be analyzed together. Risk analysis should be conducted by analyzing the potential impact of inter-facility cyberattacks on related facilities and the impact of cybersecurity on each configuration module of the diverse protection system. In this paper, we analyze the linkage of the diverse protection system and discuss the cybersecurity linkage threat by analyzing the availability of equipment, the cyber threat impact of the linked equipment, and the configuration module's cybersecurity vulnerability.

  • This paper presents the design and experimental evaluation of fast output sampling feedback controller to minimize structural vibration of a cantilever beam using Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wires as control actuators and piezoceramics as sensor and disturbance actuator. Linear dynamic models of the smart cantilever beam are obtained using online recursive least square parameter estimation. A digital control system that consists of $Simulink^{TM}$ modeling software and dSPACE DS1104 controller board is used for identification and control. The effectiveness of the controller is shown through simulation and experimentation by exciting the structure at resonance.

  • A strain gauge weight measuring instrumentation system was designed with RF sensor network facilities. In the sensor module system data conversion and a series of signal processing were totally equipped. 16 strain gauges are incoming sensors and each output of the strain gauge was amplified and filtered for proper analog signal processing. Several measuring instrumentation OP amps and general purposed OP amps were used. 12 bits A/D converters converted analog signals to digital bits and a PIC microprocessor controlled the 16 channels of strain gauges. RF RS232 modules were used for wireless communication between the PIC microprocessor and an Ethernet host far a remote sensor monitoring system development.

  • The digital instrumentation and control system for the large scale system like the power plant must have the form of the heirachical structure. Because most large scale system have many control and process signals and it is distributed in the vade region, it is necessary to partition them into several subsystems. Therefore, the role of SCS(Supervisory Control System) having the functions of controlling and monitoring for the status of subsystems is very important. In this paper, new SCS for the effective control of the large scale system is proposed.

Tool Path Analysis and Motion Control of 3D Engraving Machine

  • This paper presents a new technique to analyze data on the coordinate x, y, z and apply these data to design the motion control to improve the efficiency of the engraving machine so that it can engrave accordingly in 3 dimensions. First, the tool path on the x-y plane is analyzed to be synchronized with the z-axis. The digital data is then sent to the motion control to guide the movement of the engrave point on the x-y plane. Tool path moves along the x-axis with zero degree and different values of the y-axis according to the coordinate of the digital data and the analysis along z-axis to determine the depth for engraving. The depth can be specified from the gray level with the 256 levels of resolution. The data obtained includes the distances on x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis, the acceleration of the engrave point's movement, and the speed of the engrave point's movement. These data is then transfered to the motion control to guide the movement of the engrave point along the z-axis associated with the x-y plane. The results indicate that engraving using this technique is fast and continuous. The specimen obtained looks perfect in 3D view.

  • Digital filter is a signal processor which converts the sequence input sampled from analog signal into another sequence output. It includes software routines which filter digital signal, a computer system for executing the routines, and a data acquisition system which implements A/D, D/A signal conversion. In this paper, a data acquisition system is designed and implemented for one-board computer of MC68000. Also, the theory regarding signal conversion and and its problems occured in implementation are considered. And then, with the hardware implemented like this, design of a digital low-pass filter with the cutoff frequency of 200Hz is implemented, and related characteristics are considered.

  • Contemporary society has evolved in the digital information age. Because of this, use of various digital images has been increased. To process these images, various digital image processing methods are used. Edge detection methods, one of those, are utilized to various areas of application such as object recognition, line detection. To detect edge, there are many methods such as Sobel, Prewitt, Laplacian. Because images which are dealt with existing methods are processed in same methods regardless the distribution of gray-level in image, edge detection property is insufficient. Therefore, In this study, to improve shortcomings of existing methods an algorithm using modified expansion mask is proposed.
