HDTV Essential Padding Area in Digital Broadcasting (디지털 방송에서 HDTV 필수 부가영역)

  • HD padding area is essential redundancy in HD broadcasting. It is possible to use this padding area for the purpose of improving DTV broadcasting services. For utilization of this area, The bit of a service data was converted to black and white $8{\times}8$ block image. Converted block images are compressed with active video and are delivered to a receiver as only DC coefficients in a video stream. video quality is not effected by the proposed method, and service data was perfectly recovered in receiver without errors by using block average and threshold. The proposed utilization of HD essential padding area can possibly overcome the limited transmission stream rate with the bandwidth of HD broadcasting. If service data in transport or video stram were transferred using this padding area, it is possible to improve video quality with expanded video stream rate. Additionally, because the proposed methods are based on well-established standards, it is also useful for world-wide HD broadcasting systems such as ATSC, DVB, and IPTV.

Protograph-Based Block LDPC Code Design for Marine Satellite Communications (해양 위성 통신을 위한 프로토그래프 기반 블록 저밀도 패리티 검사 부호 설계)

  • In this paper, the protograph-based block low density parity check (LDPC) code, which improves the performance and reduces the encoder/decoder complexity than the conventional Digital Video Broadcasting Satellite Second Generation (DVB-S2) LDPC code used for the marine satellite communication, is proposed. The computer simulation results verify that the proposed protograph-based LDPC code has the better performance in both the bit error rate (BER) and the frame error rate (FER) than the conventional DVB-S2 LDPC code. Furthermore, by analyzing the encoding and decoding computational complexity, we show that the protograph-based block LDPC code has the efficient encoder/decoder structure.

  • 최근 들어 케이블 방송망을 기반으로 한 디지털 방송, VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol), VOD(Video on Demand), 영상전화, 이동전화, 무선 랜 로밍 등의 다양한 멀티미디어 서비스의 출현과 향후 도입될 새로운 융합형 멀티미디어 서비스의 수용을 위해 케이블 망의 고도화에 대한 요구가 제기되었다. 특히 유럽을 중심으로 이러한 요구를 만족시키기 위해 DVB(Digital Video Broadcasting)-C2 규격의 개발이 진행되었다. DVB-C2 규격에서는 기존의 게이블 전송 규격인 DVB-C에 대해 30% 이상의 전송 효율을 높이고자 새로운 변조 방식과 채널 오류정정 부호 방식을 도입하였다. 이에 본 논문은 본 논문에서는 DVB-C2 규격에서 도입된 채널 오류정정 부호인 BCH(Bose, Chaudhuri, and Hocquenghem) 부호와 LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) 부호의 연접 방식에 대한 성능을 검증하고자 한다. 이를 위해 개발된 시뮬레이터의 소개와 이를 통한 시험결과를 제시한다.

Layer-separable PES Packetization and Processing Scheme for SVC-based Satellite Broadcasting Service (SVC 기반의 위성방송 서비스를 위한 계층 분리형 PES 패킷화 및 처리 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient layer-separable PES packetization and processing scheme for DVB-S2 satellite broadcasting service based on SVC video. Unlike the conventional single layer-based video coding such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264, SVC can combine numerous number of video layers, which are aggregated to a single bitstream. Therefore, it is necessary to devise a new PES packetization scheme that can efficiently separate multiple video layers of SVC. In order to combine the layered characteristics of the SVC video and the robust channel coding capability of LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) of DVB-S2 for unequal error protection, we propose an efficient PES packetization in the transmitter side and PES packet processing scheme in the receiver side of DVB-S2. We prove the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in terms of processing speed and time delay required for processing of the separated layers of SVC video in the satellite broadcasting service.

Design and Implementation of the Multi-Mode Mobile Broadcasting EWS Encoding and Decoding Systems (멀티모드 이동 방송용 EWS(Emergency Warning System) 송·수신 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of a multi-mode mobile broadcasting Emergency Warning System (EWS) transmission and reception system which enables the propagation of disaster information using the encoding and transmission, reception and decoding methods specified in diverse mobile broadcasting standards. The implemented system supports global mobile broadcasting standards such as Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H), Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T), and the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) digital radio standard. The system consists of two key part: an encoding/transmission part and a reception/decoding part. The multi-mode mobile broadcasting EWS encoding and transmission system generates EWS data according to each broadcasting specification. The generated EWS data is then transmitted through a channel interface which meets the commercial broadcasting equipment specification. The receiver system receives and decodes the EWS data on a single hardware platform and can display the results on screen. Verification and conformity testing has been carried out on the implemented system by transmitting emergency data for each mode in real-time and displaying the received information in text on the receiver display.

The Structure of Synchronized Data Broadcasting Applications (연동형 데이터 방송 애플리케이션의 구조)

  • In digital broadcasting, applications are computer programs executed by the set-top box(TV receiver) , and synchronized applications are those that perform tasks at the specified moments in the underlying video. This paper describes important concepts, standards, and skills needed to implement synchronized applications and explains how to integrate them to implement these applications. This Paper assumes the European data broadcasting standard, DVB-MHP. In DVB-MHP, scheduled stream events are recommended as a means of synchronizing applications with video streams. In this method, the application receives each stream event, and executes the action associated with the stream event at the time specified in the stream event. Commercially available stream generators, i.e., multiplexers, do not generate transport streams that support scheduled stream events. So we used a stream generator implemented in our lab. We implemented a synchronized application where the actions triggered by stream events are to display graphic images. We found that our synchronized application processes scheduled stream events successfully. In our experimentation, the stream events were synchronized with the video and the deviation from the intended time was within 240 ㎳, which is a tolerance for synchronization skew between graphic images and video.

An Utilizing Method for Multi-View Video Clips under Digital Broadcasting Environments (디지털방송 데이터서비스의 방송프로그램 영상 멀티 뷰 활용 지원 방법)

  • The development of the digital compression technology and the broadcasting receiver's processing power make it possible to apply a multi-view function to the broadcasting services. The multi-view function is usually utilized to provide simultaneously several programs to viewers or to implement a multi-angle service of a sports program that allows a viewer to choose a video of his/her prefer viewpoint. The paper proposes an integrated method for utilizing a multi-view function in the digital broadcasting environment in which more than 100 programs are on air and there may be various data services which want to use multi-view video clips. For the purpose, a method of composing and transmitting multi-view videos and related information has been devised and a Java API to utilize the rapid editing function of a decoding chip-set has been implemented to clip, resize, and display parts of the multi-view videos.

  • In this paper, we design the hardware architecture of the BICM(Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation) module for next generation European broadcast system and implement the BICM module with DSP(Digital Signal Processor) TMS320C6474. Simulation result shows that the BER(Bit Error Rate) performance of the fixed-point BICM module using more than 8 bits is very similar to that of the floating-point BICM module.

  • In this paper, a Linear Error Correction Code, Which is Applicable to Next Generation Wireless Communication System Technology, is Constructed Based on Performance Comparison and Transmission Based on the Premise of High Performance Mobile Rate Enhancement System. This is Because Data Rates are Becoming an Important Issue in Reed-Solomon Codes and Linear Error Code (LDPC) Used in the Physical Layer of Digital Communication and Broadcasting Technologies. Therefore, this paper Simulates the Performance of Reed - Solomon Code and LDPC Applied to Mobile Broadcasting DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) System and Mobile Broadcasting in Digital Communication and Broadcasting, At this time, Technical Aspects of the Transmission Efficiency and Performance of the LDPC Replacing the Existing Reed-Solomon Code have been Verified from the Viewpoint of Efficiency.
