Exploitation of address generation units which are typically provided in DSPs plays an important role in DSP code generation since that perform fast address computation in parallel to the central data path. Offset assignment is optimization of memory layout for program variables by taking advantage of the capabilities of address generation units, consists of memory layout generation and address pointer assignment steps. In this paper, we propose an effective address pointer assignment method to minimize the number of address calculation instructions in DSP code generation. The proposed approach reduces the time complexity of a conventional address pointer assignment algorithm with fixed memory layouts by using minimum cost-nodes breaking. In order to contract memory size and processing time, we employ a powerful pruning technique. Moreover our proposed approach improves the initial solution iteratively by changing the memory layout for each iteration because the memory layout affects the result of the address pointer assignment algorithm. We applied the proposed approach to about 3,000 sequences of the OffsetStone benchmarks to demonstrate the effectiveness of the our approach. Experimental results with benchmarks show an average improvement of 25.9% in the address codes over previous works.
In this paper, RF and IF circuits for mobile terminals which have usually been implemented using expensive BiCMOS processes are designed using CMOS circuits, and a Tx CMOS RF/IF single chip for PCS applications is designed. The designed circuit consists of an IF block including an IF PLL frequency synthesizer, an IF mixer, and a VGA and an RF block including a SSB RF mixer and a driver amplifier, and performs all transmit signal processing functions required between digital baseband and the power amplifier. The phase noise level of the designed IF PLL frequency synthesizer is -114dBc/Hz@100kHz and the lock time is less than $300{\mu}s$. It consumes 5.3mA from a 3V power supply. The conversion gain and OIP3 of the IF mixer block are 3.6dB and -11.3dBm. It consumes 5.3mA. The 3dB frequencies of the VGA are greater than 250MHz for all gain settings. The designed VGA consumes 10mA. The designed RF block exhibits a gain of 14.93dB and an OIP3 of 6.97dBm. The image and carrier suppressions are 35dBc and 31dBc, respectively. It consumes 63.4mA. The designed circuits are under fabrication using a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The designed entire chip consumes 84mA from a 3V supply, and its area is $1.6㎜{\times}3.5㎜$.

Cross-interferometic synthetic aperture radar (CInSAR) technique from ERS-2 and Envisat images is capable of generating submeter-accuracy digital elevation model (DEM). However, it is very difficult to produce high-quality CInSAR-derived DEM due to the difference in the azimuth and range pixel size between ERS-2 and Envisat images as well as the small height ambiguity of CInSAR interferogram. In this study, we have proposed an efficient method to overcome the problems, produced a high-quality DEM over northern Alaska, and compared the CInSAR-derived DEM with the national elevation dataset (NED) DEM from U.S. Geological Survey. In the proposed method, azimuth common band filtering is applied in the radar raw data processing to mitigate the mis-registation due to the difference in the azimuth and range pixel size, and differential SAR interferogram (DInSAR) is used for reducing the unwrapping error occurred by the high fringe rate of CInSAR interferogram. Using the CInSAR DEM, we have identified and corrected man-made artifacts in the NED DEM. The wave number analysis further confirms that the CInSAR DEM has valid Signal in the high frequency of more than 0.08 radians/m (about 40m) while the NED DEM does not. Our results indicate that the CInSAR DEM is superior to the NED DEM in terms of both height precision and ground resolution.

In suspension bridges, hanger cables are the main load-supporting members. The tension of the hanger cables of a suspension bridge is a very important parameter for assessing the integrity and safety of the bridge. In general, indirect methods are used to measure the tension of the hanger cables of a suspension bridge in traffic use. A representative indirect method is the vibration method, which extracts modal frequencies from the cables' responses and then measures the cable tension using the cables' geometric conditions and the modal frequencies. In this study, the image processing technique is applied to facilitate the estimation of the dynamic responses of the cables using the image signal, for which a portable digital camcorder was used due to its convenience and cost-efficiency. Ambient vibration tests were conducted on a suspension bridge in traffic use to verify the validity of the back analysis method, which can estimate the tension of remote hanger cables using the modal frequencies as a parameter. In addition, the tension estimated through back analysis method, which was conducted to minimize the difference between the modal frequencies calculated using finite element analysis of the hanger cables and the measured modal frequencies, was compared with that measured using the vibration method.

A two-color particle image velocimetry (PIV) has been developed for measuring two dimensional velocity flowfields and applied to a Mach 2.0 supersonic nozzle. This technique is similar to a single-color PIV technique except that two different color laser beams are used to solve the directional ambiguity problem. A green-color laser sheet (532 nm: 2nd harmonic beam of YAG laser) and a red-color laser sheet (619 nm: output beam from YAG pumped Dye laser using Rhodamine 640) are employed to illuminate the seeded particles. A high resolution (3060${\times}$2036) digital color CCD camera is used to record the particle positions. This system eliminates the photographic-film processing time and subsequent digitization time as well as the complexities associated with conventional image shifting techniques for solving directional ambiguity problem. The two-color PIV also has the advantage that velocity distributions in high speed flowfields can be measured simply and accurately by varying the time interval between two different laser beams due to its high signal-to-noise ratio and thereby less requirement of panicle pair numbers for a velocity vector in one interrogation spot. The velocity distribution in the Mach 2.0 supersonic nozzle has been measured and the over-expanded shock cell structure can be predicted by the strain rate field. These results are compared and analyzed with the schlieren photograph for the velocity distributions and shock location.
Modeling of artificial targets in Synthetic Aperture radar (SAR) mainly simulates radar signals reflected from the faces and edges of the 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) model with a ray-tracing method, and modeling of the clutter on the Earth's surface uses a method of distinguishing types with similar distribution characteristics through statistical analysis of the SAR image itself. In this paper, man-made targets on the surface and background clutter on the terrain are integrated and made into a three-dimensional (3D) point cloud scatterer model, and SAR image were created through computational signal processing. The results of the SAR Stripmap image generation of the actual automobile based SAR radar system and the results analyzed using EM modeling or statistical distribution models are compared with this 3D point cloud scatterer model. The modeling target is selected as an bridge because it has the characteristic of having both water surface and ground terrain around the bridge and is also a target of great interest in both military and civilian use.
Stage 1 sleep provides important information regarding interpretation of nocturnal polysomnography, particularly sleep onset. It is a short transition period from wakeful consciousness to sleep. Lack of prominent sleep events characterizing stage 1 sleep is a major obstacle in automatic sleep stage scoring. In this study, we attempted to utilize simultaneous EEC and EOG processing and analyses to detect stage 1 sleep automatically. Relative powers of the alpha waves and the theta waves were calculated from spectral estimation. Either the relative power of alpha waves less than 50% or the relative power of theta waves more than 23% was regarded as stage 1 sleep. SEM (slow eye movement) was defined as the duration of both eye movement ranging from 1.5 to 4 seconds and regarded also as stage 1 sleep. If one of these three criteria was met, the epoch was regarded as stage 1 sleep. Results f ere compared to the manual rating results done by two polysomnography experts. Total of 169 epochs was analyzed. Agreement rate for stage 1 sleep between automatic detection and manual scoring was 79.3% and Cohen's Kappa was 0.586 (p<0.01). A significant portion (32%) of automatically detected stage 1 sleep included SEM. Generally, digitally-scored sleep s1aging shows the accuracy up to 70%. Considering potential difficulties in stage 1 sleep scoring, the accuracy of 79.3% in this study seems to be robust enough. Simultaneous analysis of EOG provides differential value to the present study from previous oneswhich mainly depended on EEG analysis. The issue of close relationship between SEM and stage 1 sleep raised by Kinnariet at. remains to be a valid one in this study.
This paper proposes 'postfilimc metamorphosis' and 'reanimation' as two concepts that aim at giving account to the aesthtetic tendencies and genealogies of what Suzanne Buchan calls 'pervasive animation', a category that refers to the unprecedented expansion of animation's formal, technological and experiential boundaries. Buchan's term calls for an interdisciplinary approach to animation by highlighting a range of phenomena that signal the growing embracement of the images and media that transcend the traditional definition of animation, including the lens-based live-action image as the longstanding counterpart of the animation image, and the increasing uses of computer-generated imagery, and the ubiquity of various animated images dispersed across other media and platforms outside the movie theatre. While Buchan's view suggests the impacts of digital technology as a determining factor for opening this interdisciplinary, hybrid fields of 'pervasive animation', I elaborate upon the two concepts in order to argue that the various forms of metamorphorsis and motion found in these fields have their historical roots. That is, 'postfilmic metamorphosis' means that the transformative image in postfimic media such as video and the computer differs from that in traditional celluloid-based animation materially and technically, which demands a refashioned investigation into the history of the 'image-processing' video art which was categorized as experimental animation but largely marginalized. Likewise, 'reanimation' cne be defined as animating the still images (the photographic and the painterly images) or suspending the originally inscribed movement in the moving image and endowing it with a neewly created movement, and both technical procedues, developed in experimental filmmaking and now enabled by a variety of moving image installations in contemporary art, aim at reconsidering the borders between stillness and movement, and between film and photography. By discussing a group of contemporary moving image artworks (including those by Takeshi Murata, David Claerbout, and Ken Jacobs) that present the aesthetic features of 'postfilmic metamorphosis' and 'reanimation' in relation to their precursors, this paper argues that the aesthetic implications of the works that pertain to 'pervasive animation' lie in their challenging the tradition dichotomies of the graphic/the live-action images and stillness/movement. The two concepts, then, respond to a revisionist approach to reconfigure the history and ontology of other media images outside the traditional boundaries of animation as a way of offering a refasioned understanding of 'pervasive animation'.
Now a days, the Medical X-ray equipments has become digitalized from analog type such as film, cassette to CR, DR. And many scientists are still researching and developing the Medical X-ray equipment. In this study, we used the Bismuth tri-iodide to conversion material for digital X-ray equipments and we couldn't get the satisfying result than previous study, but it opened new possibility to cover the disadvantage of a-Se is high voltage aplly and difficultness of make. In this paper, we use $BiI_3$ powder(99.99%) as x-ray conversion material and make films that have thickness of 200um and the film size is $3cm{\times}3cm$. Also, we deposited an ITO(Indium Tin Oxide) electrode as top electrode and bottom electrode using a Magnetron Sputtering System. To evaluate a characteristics of the produced films, an electrical and structural properties are performed. Through a SEM analysis, we confirmed a surface and component part. And to analyze the electrical properties, darkcurrent, sensitivity and SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) are measured. Darkcurrent is $1.6nA/cm^2$ and sensitivity is $0.629nC/cm^2$ and this study shows that the electrical properties of x-ray conversion material that made by screen printing method are similar to PVD method or better than that. This results suggest that $BiI_3$ is suitable for a replacement of a-Se because of the reduced manufacture processing and improved yield.
The Newton-Raphson iterative algorithm for finding a floating point reciprocal square mot calculates it by performing a fixed number of multiplications. In this paper, a variable latency Newton-Raphson's reciprocal square root algorithm is proposed that performs multiplications a variable number of times until the error becomes smaller than a given value. To find the rediprocal square root of a floating point number F, the algorithm repeats the following operations: '$X_{i+1}=\frac{{X_i}(3-e_r-{FX_i}^2)}{2}$, $i\in{0,1,2,{\ldots}n-1}$' with the initial value is '$X_0=\frac{1}{\sqrt{F}}{\pm}e_0$'. The bits to the right of p fractional bits in intermediate multiplication results are truncated and this truncation error is less than '$e_r=2^{-p}$'. The value of p is 28 for the single precision floating point, and 58 for the double precision floating point. Let '$X_i=\frac{1}{\sqrt{F}}{\pm}e_i$, there is '$X_{i+1}=\frac{1}{\sqrt{F}}-e_{i+1}$, where '$e_{i+1}{<}\frac{3{\sqrt{F}}{{e_i}^2}}{2}{\mp}\frac{{Fe_i}^3}{2}+2e_r$'. If '$|\frac{\sqrt{3-e_r-{FX_i}^2}}{2}-1|<2^{\frac{\sqrt{-p}{2}}}$' is true, '$e_{i+1}<8e_r$' is less than the smallest number which is representable by floating point number. So, $X_{i+1}$ is approximate to '$\frac{1}{\sqrt{F}}$. Since the number of multiplications performed by the proposed algorithm is dependent on the input values, the average number of multiplications Per an operation is derived from many reciprocal square root tables ($X_0=\frac{1}{\sqrt{F}}{\pm}e_0$) with varying sizes. The superiority of this algorithm is proved by comparing this average number with the fixed number of multiplications of the conventional algorithm. Since the proposed algorithm only performs the multiplications until the error gets smaller than a given value, it can be used to improve the performance of a reciprocal square root unit. Also, it can be used to construct optimized approximate reciprocal square root tables. The results of this paper can be applied to many areas that utilize floating point numbers, such as digital signal processing, computer graphics, multimedia, scientific computing, etc.
