Rebuilding Operational Risk Management Capabilities: Lessons Learned from COVID-19

  • Globally, COVID-19 has significantly impacted many different organizations and people. From the banks' perspective, this pandemic has affected banks' corporate and retail customers. Also, banks had to adjust to distributed workforce model. This paper analyses the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, which can be effectively used to rebuild banks' Operational Risk Management capabilities. The present study used the survey research methodology, which includes structured questionnaires completed by senior banking professionals to analyze the learnings from COVID-19 and understand the distributed workforce model and remote working effectiveness. Findings: The Pandemic accelerated the pace of digital transformation. The lockdown imposed due to the pandemic led to employees working remotely, which has been effective because of enhanced digital capabilities. However, enhanced monitoring is required to prevent data-related issues, and action needs to be taken to address challenges faced in having a remote distributed workforce model, like negative impact on on-the-job learning, data-related risks, and employee wellbeing. COVID-19 is an unprecedented event that could not have been predicted in any scenario analysis. This crisis has highlighted various systemic drawbacks that need to be addressed. Banks can apply the lesson learned from this Pandemic to become more robust in the future.

국내 무인매장 쇼핑경험 개선을 위한 가이드라인 - 세븐일레븐 시그니처 매장을 중심으로 - (Guideline for Improvement of Unmanned Shopping Experience - Focusing on Seven Eleven Signature -)

  • 본 연구는 국내외에서 점차 확대되고 있는 무인 매장, 그중 세븐일레븐 시그니처 매장을 중심으로 더 나은 사용 경험을 위한 가이드라인을 제안하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구방법으로 사례연구를 통해 미국과 중국의 무인 매장에 대한 특징을 조사하였고, 세븐일레븐 시그니처 매장과 비교연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과, 무인 매장 쇼핑 경험 개선에 도움이 되는 주요한 7가지 항목인 Easy, Simplified, Accessible, Findable, Informative, Flexible, Credible을 도출해낼 수 있었다. 이 연구는 국내 최초의 무인 편의점 세븐일레븐 시그니처를 중심으로 국내 무인 매장의 쇼핑경험 개선을 위한 가이드라인을 제시했다는 점에 의의가 있다. 후속 연구를 통해 국내 무인매장 개선 방안을 보완하고, 경험 개선에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

  • 디지털 플랫폼 기반 온라인 유통 시장의 발전은 생활물류 영역에서 급격한 물동량 성장과 다양한 서비스 혁신을 촉진시키고 있다. 융복합 물류 기술개발에 대한 수요가 증가함에 따라 국가 차원에서 물류서비스 혁신을 위한 기술개발을 지원하고 있다. 디지털 플랫폼은 개별 단위의 표준을 개발하여 운영되고 있으며, 국가연구개발 사업에서도 자체 표준을 정의하고 있어 호환성 및 연계성 부족으로 인한 문제를 발생시킬 가능성이 높다. 이러한 문제해결을 위해 생활물류 전체에 걸쳐 개발된 표준 프로세스를 기반으로 시스템과 장비 사이의 데이터 연계를 위한 표준 데이터 흐름도를 정의하였다. 특히, 전체 프로세스에서 공통으로 유지 및 공유되어야 할 데이터, 업무 수행을 위해 연계가 필요한 데이터, 마지막으로 내부 운영 성과를 관리하기 위한 데이터로 구분하여 연계용 데이터를 중심으로 흐름을 정의하였다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 방법을 통해 연구개발 성과의 실제 현장 적용 가능성을 높일 수 있을 것이다.

중소유통기업지원을 위한 상품 카테고리 재분류 기반의 수요예측 및 상품추천 방법론 개발 (Development of the Demand Forecasting and Product Recommendation Method to Support the Small and Medium Distribution Companies based on the Product Recategorization)

  • Distribution and logistics industries contribute some of the biggest GDP(gross domestic product) in South Korea and the number of related companies are quarter of the total number of industries in the country. The number of retail tech companies are quickly increased due to the acceleration of the online and untact shopping trend. Furthermore, major distribution and logistics companies try to achieve integrated data management with the fulfillment process. In contrast, small and medium distribution companies still lack of the capacity and ability to develop digital innovation and smartization. Therefore, in this paper, a deep learning-based demand forecasting & recommendation model is proposed to improve business competitiveness. The proposed model is developed based on real sales transaction data to predict future demand for each product. The proposed model consists of six deep learning models, which are MLP(multi-layers perception), CNN(convolution neural network), RNN(recurrent neural network), LSTM(long short term memory), Conv1D-BiLSTM(convolution-long short term memory) for demand forecasting and collaborative filtering for the recommendation. Each model provides the best prediction result for each product and recommendation model can recommend best sales product among companies own sales list as well as competitor's item list. The proposed demand forecasting model is expected to improve the competitiveness of the small and medium-sized distribution and logistics industry.

The Distribution Industry's Social Responsibility and Ethics Management: Effects on Corporate Trust and Loyalty

  • Purpose - This study aims to explore the effects of social responsibility activities and business ethics practices on corporate trust and loyalty in the context of a large retail distribution business. Research design, data, and methodology - The data collected was analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0. In order to verify the demographic characteristics, frequency analysis was conducted on the data. Results - The results of the study were as follows. First, social responsibility activities had a significant effect on corporate trust. Second, both corporate social responsibility activities and business ethics practices had significant effects on loyalty. Third, corporate trust had a significant effect on loyalty. Fourth, corporate social responsibility activities and consumer protection activities had a partial mediation effect, while environmental protection activities and social contribution activities had complete mediation effects. Conclusions - This study clarified and explained the factors of corporate social responsibility activities and business ethics practices that customers value, and analyzed the influence of these factors on corporate trust and loyalty.

  • The digital revolution is happening much more quickly and Internet Commerce and Electronic Commerce is having a profound influence on the global trade and internal commerce, revolutionize the way of doing business, especially retail and direct marketing. Owing to Internet, an increasing share of business transactions occurs online. Electronic payment is essential for the smooth progress of the electronic commerce as electronic payment plays the important role in the electronic commerce, that is, the value transfer resulting from the electronic commerce. So far, there have not been a considerable emphasis on the risks residing in the electronic payment and money. So, this paper deals with the risks in the electronic payment and money, in particular technical risks and social risks, and the reliability-increasing schemes to prevent the risks in the electronic payment. The reliability-increasing schemes relate to the security of the electronic payment systems and certification authority and key management, transaction rules between the parties concerned in the electronic payment.

Impact of Climate Change on Business Process in the Distribution Industry

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the possible ways to minimize damage by analyzing the influence that may be exerted upon the business process of the distribution industry by unexpected climate change. Research design, data, and methodology - The optimum business process is to be implemented after dividing the diversified business process of the distribution industry into the four stages of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP). Results - First, the upper-level risks that would be impacted most sensitively by climate change have been selected. Second, the impact and characteristics of the environment have been discovered. Third, weighted values by criteria item of upper-level business risks have been analyzed. Fourth, it was possible to define the business priority order based on the individual and then to adjust the Recovery Time Objective (RTO). Conclusion - In this study, the priority order has been defined quantitatively by calculating the priority order score. Further, the priority order has been determined depending on whether any targeted business unit is applicable to the items of the business nature criteria.

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간 영상에서 적응적 배경영상을 이용하여 객체를 추출하고 추적하는 방법을 제안it다. 입력되는 영상에서 배경영역의 잡음을 제거하고 조명에 강인한 객체 추출을 위하여 객체영역이 아닌 배경영역 부분을 실시간으로 갱신함으로써 적응적 배경영상을 생성한다. 그리고 배경영상과 카메라로부터 입력되는 입력영상과의 차를 이용하여 객체를 추출한다. 추출된 객체의 내부점을 이용하여 최소사각영역을 설정하고, 이를 통해 객체를 추적한다.

  • This editorial on 'Smart Services and Internet of Things (IoT)' focuses on the topics related to the applications of IoT to consumer products and services, which have become 'smarter' thanks to IoT. This special issue explores, in different ways, the phenomena of smart services and the role of IoT in business innovation across different contexts such as product-service system, car auction, tourism industry, communicating platform, online travel agency, self-service retail, and bike sharing. We hope that this special issue will provide a significant step forward in enabling researchers and practitioners to understand smart services and IoT.

  • 미래 소매 유통의 핵심인 복합쇼핑몰 전성시대가 도래하였다. 본 연구는 복합쇼핑몰의 시대적 등장배경과 개념 및 유형 그리고 우리나라에 비해 이미 오래전에 쇼핑몰이 보편화된 미국과 일본, 유럽 쇼핑몰의 발전 역사를 살펴보고 국내 쇼핑몰의 발전단계와 특징 그리고 기존 복합쇼핑몰 관련 문헌조사를 실시하였다. 문헌조사 결과 복합쇼핑몰에 대한 연구는 그동안 많이 이루어지지 않았으며 더욱이 활성화 방안에 대한 연구는 거의 없었던 것으로 확인 되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내 복합쇼핑몰의 사례를 조사하여 활성화방안을 찾고자 하였다. 사례는 소매유통 전문가들에게 추천을 받은 복합쇼핑몰들을 심층적으로 조사 하였다. 이를 통하여 성공요인과 실패요인을 도출하고 시사점을 발췌, 정부 차원에서의 활성화 방안을 제시하였다.
