This study simulated flood inundation each frequency rainfall using GIS spatial information and FLUMEN model for part of Muju-Namdae Stream. To create geomorphology for the analysis of flood inundation, Triangle Irregular Network(TIN) was constructed using GIS spatial interpolation method based on digital topographic map and river profile data, unique data source to represent real topography of the river areas. And also flood inundation was operated according to the levee collapse to consider extremely flood damage scenarios. As the analysis of result, the inundation area in the left levee collapse showed more high as 3.13, 3.69, and 4.17 times comparing with one of right levee for 50, 100, and 200 year frequency rainfall and showed 1.00, 2.15, and 3.34 times comparing with one of right levee in the inundation depth with over 1.0 meter, which can cause casualties. As the analysis of inundation area of the inundation depth with over 1.0 meter, which can cause casualties in left levee collapse, it increased more high as 263% and 473% when 50 year frequency change into 100 and 200 year frequency. Also As the analysis of inundation area of the inundation depth with over 1.0 meter in right levee collapse, it increased high as 123% and 142% when 50 year frequency change into 100 and 200 year frequency. Especially, the inundation area of the inundation depth with 3.0~3.5m showed more high as 263% and 489% when 50 year frequency change into 100 and 200 year frequency. It is expected that flood inundation map of this paper could be important decision making data to establish land use planning and water treatment measures.

A shoreline mapping is essential for describing coastal areas, estimating coastal erosions and managing coastal properties. This study has planned to map the 3D shorelines with the airborne LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) data and the KOMPSAT-2 imagery, acquired in Uljin, Korea. Following to the study, the DSM(Digital Surface Model) is generated firstly with the given LiDAR data, while the NDWI(Normalized Difference Water Index) imagery is generated by the given KOMPSAT-2 imagery. The classification method is employed to generate water and land clusters from the NDWI imagery, as the 2D shorelines are selected from the boundaries between the two clusters. Lastly, the 3D shorelines are constructed by adding the elevation information obtained from the DSM into the generated 2D shorelines. As a result, the constructed 3D shorelines have had 0.90m horizontal accuracy and 0.10m vertical accuracy. This statistical results could be concluded in that the generated 3D shorelines shows the relatively high accuracy on classified water and land surfaces, but relatively low accuracies on unclassified water and land surfaces.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the applicability of a HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran) model for runoff estimation in the Namgang dam watershed. Spatial data, such as watershed, stream, land use, and a digital elevation map, were used as input for the HSPF model, which was calibrated and validated using observed runoff data from 2004 to 2015 for three stations (Sancheong, Shinan, Changchon) in the study watershed. Parameters for runoff calibration were selected based on the user's manual and references, and parameter calibration was done by trial and error. The $R^2$ (determination coefficient), RMSE (root-mean-square error), NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient), and RMAE (relative mean absolute error) were used to evaluate the model's performance. Calibration and validation results showed that annual mean runoff was within a ${\pm}5%$ error in Sancheong and Shinan, whereas there was a14% error in Changchon. The model performance criteria for calibration and validation showed that $R^2$ ranged from 0.80 to 0.92, RMSE was 2.33 to 2.39 mm/day, NSE was 0.71 to 0.85, and RMAE was 0.37 to 0.57 mm/day for daily runoff. Visual inspection showed that the simulated daily flow, monthly flow, and flow exceedance graph agreed well with observations for the Sancheong and Shinan stations, whereas the simulated flow was higher than observed at the Changchon station.

In this study, 2-dimensional inundation analysis for Taehwa watershed in Ulsan metropolitan city was conducted to analyze flow behaviors, inundation depth and inundation stage, considering the building effect. Lidar having the interval of 1 m was employed to generate topographic data with 10m interval, and building data extracted from digital map was combined with the constructed topographic data for 2-dimensional inundation analysis. A few scenarios were constructed for the analysis to provide an effective and accurate inundation analysis method through analyzing the results. The disagreement based on the areas of inundation showed over 10% between the cases with and without consideration of building effect. The maximum inundation depth without considering the effects of buildings was 0.29m higher than that with considering the building effects. On the contrary, the maximum inundation stage with consideration of building effects was 0.49m higher than that without consideration of building effects.

This study was conducted to remove the urban heat island effects embedded in the interpolated surfaces of daily minimum temperature in the Korean Peninsula. Fifty six standard weather stations are usually used to generate the gridded temperature surface in South Korea. Since most of the weather stations are located in heavily populated and urbanized areas, the observed minimum temperature data are contaminated with the so-called urban heat island effect. Without an appropriate correction, temperature estimates over rural area or forests might deviate significantly from the actual values. We simulated the spatial pattern of population distribution within any single population reporting district (city or country) by allocating the reported population to the "urban" pixels of a land cover map with a 30 by 30 m spacing. By using this "digital population model" (DPM), we can simulate the horizontal diffusion of urban effect, which is not possible with the spatially discontinuous nature of the population statistics fer each city or county. The temperature estimation error from the existing interpolation scheme, which considers both the distance and the altitude effects, was regressed to the DPMs smoothed at 5 different scales, i.e., the radial extent of 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 5.0 km. Optimum regression models were used in conjunction with the distance-altitude interpolation to predict monthly normals of daily minimum temperature in South Korea far 1971-2000 period. Cross validation showed around 50% reduction in terms of RMSE and MAE over all months compared with those by the conventional method.conventional method.
The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) obtained elevation data on a near-global scale to generate the most complete high-resolution digital topographic database of Earth. SRTM consisted of a specially modified radar system that flew onboard the Space shuttle SRTM consisted of a specially modified radar system that flew onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour during an 11-day mission on February 2000. Since 2004, in a GLCF (Global Land Cover Facility, http;//glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/) web-site, products of SRTM including 1Km and 90m resolutions for outside US and a 30m resolution for the US have been provided. This study is to assess the accuracy of SRTM-DEM in comparing with NGIS-DEM generated from NGIS digital topographic map(1:25,000) in Guem river watershed. For the Geum river watershed, SREM-DEM elevation ranged from 0 to 1,605m and NGIS-DEM ranged from 6 to 1,610m, and the average elevation of SRTM-DEM was 226.7m and 218.9m for NGIS-DEM, respectively. NGIS-DEM was subtracted from SRTM in three zones -Zone I (0~100m), Zone II (100~400m), Zone III (over 400m)- to estimate difference between SRTM and NGIS-DEM. As the results, the differences of these DEM were 5.2m (11.6%) in Zone I, 8.8m (3.8%) in Zone II, 12.5m (2.1%) in Zone III. Although there were differences between SRTM-DEM and NGIS-DEM, SREM-DEM would be possible to be utilized as DEM data for the region where DEM is not prepared.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the applicability of SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model for runoff estimation in the Nam river dam watershed. Input data for the SWAT model were established using spatial data (land use, soil, digital elevation map) and weather data. The SWAT model was calibrated and validated using observed runoff data from 2003 to 2014 for three stations (Sancheong, Shinan, Changchon) within the study watershed. The $R^2$ (Determination Coefficient), RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient), and RMAE (Relative Mean Absolute Error) were used to evaluate the model performance. Parameters for runoff calibration were selected based on user's manual and references and trial and error method was applied for parameter calibration. Calibration results showed that annual mean runoff were within ${\pm}5%$ error compared to observed. $R^2$ were ranged 0.64 ~ 0.75, RMSE were 2.51 ~ 4.97 mm/day, NSE were 0.48 ~ 0.65, and RMAE were 0.34 ~ 0.63 mm/day for daily runoff, respectively. The runoff comparison for three stations showed that annual runoff was higher in Changchon especially summer and winter seasons. The flow exceedance graph showed that Sancheong and Shinan stations were similar while Changchon was higher in entire fraction.

This paper evaluated the possibility for 1/5,000 digital topographic mapping by using PLEIADES images of 0.5m GSD(Ground Sampling Distance) resolution that has recently launched. Those results of check points by applying the initial RPC(Rational Polynomial Coefficient) of PLEIADES images came out as; RMSE of those were $X={\pm}1.806m$, $Y={\pm}2.132m$, $Z={\pm}1.973m$. Also, if we corrected geometric correction using 16 GCP(Ground Control Point)s, the results of RMSE became $X={\pm}0.104m$, $Y={\pm}0.171m$, $Z={\pm}0.036m$, and t he RMSE of check points were $X={\pm}0.357m$, $Y={\pm}0.239m$, $Z={\pm}0.188m$; which of those results indicated the accuracy of standard adjustment complied in error tolerances of the 1/5,000 scale. Additionally, we converted coordinates of points, obtained by TerraSAR. for comparing with measurements from GPS(Global Positioning System) surveying. The RMSE of comparing converted and GPS points were $X={\pm}0.818m$, $Y={\pm}0.200m$, $Z={\pm}0.265m$, which confirmed the possibility for 1/5,000 digital topographic mapping with PLEIADES images and GCPs. As method of obtaining GCPs in unaccessible area, however, the outcome evaluation of GCPs extracted from TerraSAR images was not acceptable for 1/5,000 digital topographic mapping. Therefore, we considered that further researches are needed on applicability of GCPs extracted from TerraSAR images for future alternative method.

The alpine agricultural activities are usually performed at higher and steep areas in nature. Thus, significant amounts of soil erosion are occurring compared with those from other areas. Thus, the soil erosion induced environmental impacts in these areas are getting greater. The Doam watershed is located at alpine areas and it has been well known that the agricultural activities in the watershed are causing accelerated soil erosion and water quality degradations. Many modeling approaches were employed to solve soil erosion and water quality issues. In this study, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was utilized to simulate the hydrologic and sediment behaviors in the Doam watershed. In many previous modeling studies, the digital soil map and its corresponding soil properties were used without modification to reflect soil conditioning at many agricultural fields of the Doam watershed. Thus, the soil sample was taken at the agricultural field within the Doam watershed and analyzed for its physical properties. In this study, the digital topsoil properties in the agricultural fields within the Doam watershed were replaced with the soil properties for reconditioned soil analyzed in this study to simulate the impacts of using soil properties for reconditioned soil in hydrologic and sediment modeling at the Doam watershed using the SWAT model. The hydrologic component of the SWAT model was calibrated and validated for measured flow data from 2002 to 2003. The $R^2$ value was 0.79 and the EI value was 0.53 for weekly simulated data. The calibrated model parameters were used for hydrologic component validation and the $R^2$ value was 0.86 and the EI value was 0.74 for weekly data. For sediment comparison, the $R^2$ value was 0.67 and the EI value was 0.59. These statistics improved with the use of soil properties of the reconditioned soil in the field compared with the results obtained without considering soil reconditioning. The simulated sediment amounts with and without considering the soil properties of the reconditioned soil were 284,813 ton and 158,369 ton, respectively. This result indicates that there could be approximately 79% of errors in estimated sediment yield at the Doam watershed, although the model comparison with the measured data gave similar satisfactory statistics with and without considering soil properties from the reconditioned soil.
Three main important sources for establishing GIS are the orthomap in scale 1:5 000 with Ground Sampling Distance of 0,5m; DEM/DTM data with height error of ${\pm}$1,0m and topographic map in scale 1: 10 000. The new era with Very High Resolution Satellite (VHRS) images as IKONOS, QuickBird, EROS, OrbView and other ones having Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) even lower than 1m has been in potential for producing orthomap in large scale 1:5 000, to update existing maps, to compile general-purpose or thematic maps and for GIS. The accuracy of orthomap generated from VHRS image affects strongly on GIS reliability. Nevertheless, orthomap accuracy taken from VHRS image is at first dependent on chosen sensor geometrical models. This paper presents, at fist, theoretical basic of the Rational Polynomial Coefficient (RPC) model installed in the commercial ImageStation Systems, realized for orthorectifying VHRS images. The RPC model of VHRS image is a replacement camera mode that represents the indirect relation between terrain and its image acquired on the flight orbit. At the end of this paper the practical accuracies of IKONOS and QuickBird image orthorectified by RPC model on Canadian PCI Geomatica System have been presented. They are important indication for practical application of producing digital orthomaps.
