Towards a digital twin realization of the blade system design study wind turbine blade

  • This paper describes the application of a novel virtual prototyping methodology to wind turbine blade design. Numeric modelling data and experimental data about turbine blade geometry and structural/dynamical behaviour are combined to obtain an affordable digital twin model useful in reducing the undesirable uncertainties during the entire turbine lifecycle. Moreover, this model can be used to track and predict blade structural changes, due for example to structural damage, and to assess its remaining life. A new interactive and recursive process is proposed. It includes CAD geometry generation and finite element analyses, combined with experimental data gathered from the structural testing of a new generation wind turbine blade. The goal of the research is to show how the unique features of a complex wind turbine blade are considered in the virtual model updating process, fully exploiting the computational capabilities available to the designer in modern engineering. A composite Sandia National Laboratories Blade System Design Study (BSDS) turbine blade is used to exemplify the proposed process. Static, modal and fatigue experimental testing are conducted at Clarkson University Blade Test Facility. A digital model was created and updated to conform to all the information available from experimental testing. When an updated virtual digital model is available the performance of the blade during operation can be assessed with higher confidence.

Digital engineering models for prefabricated bridge piers

  • Data-driven engineering is crucial for information delivery between design, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of prefabricated structures. Design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA) is a critical methodology for prefabricated bridge structures. In this study, a novel concept of digital engineering model that combined existing knowledge of DfMA with object-oriented parametric modeling technologies was developed. Three-dimensional (3D) geometry models and their data models for each phase of a construction project were defined for information delivery. Digital design models were used for conceptual design, including aesthetic consideration and possible variation during fabrication and assembly. The seismic performance of a bridge pier was evaluated by linking the design parameters to the calculated moment-curvature curves. Control parameters were selected to consider the tolerance control and revision of the digital models. Digitalized fabrication of the prefabricated members was realized using the digital fabrication model with G-code for a concrete printer or a robot. The fabrication error was evaluated and the design digital models were updated. The revised fabrication models were used in the preassembly simulation to guarantee constructability. For the maintenance of the bridge, the as-built information was defined for the prefabricated bridge piers. The results of this process revealed that data-driven information delivery is crucial for lifecycle management of prefabricated bridge piers.

Intelligent Digital Redesign for Nonlinear Interconnected Systems using Decentralized Fuzzy Control

  • In this paper, a novel intelligent digital redesign (IDR) technique is proposed for the nonlinear interconnected systems which can be represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The IDR technique is to convert a pre-designed analog controller into an equivalent digital one. To develop this method, the discretized models of the analog and digital closed-loop system with the decentralized controller are presented, respectively. Using these discretized models, the digital decentralized control gain is obtained to minimize the norm between the state variables of the analog and digital closed-loop systems and stabilize the digital closed-loop system. Its sufficient conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

  • Topology optimization is widely accepted as a conceptual design tool for the product design. Since the resulted layout of the topology optimization is a kind of digital images represented by the density distribution, the seamless process is required to transform digital images to the CAD model for the practical use.   • In this paper, we develop the intelligent digitally redesigned fuzzy controller for nonlinear systems. Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model is used to model the nonlinear systems and a continuous-time fuzzy-model-based controller is designed based on the extended parallel-distributed-compensation(EPDC) method . The digital controllers are determined from existing analogue controllers. The proposed method provides an accurate and effective method for digital control of continuous-time nonlinear systems and enables us to efficiently implement a digital controller via the pre-determined continuous-time 75 fuzzy-model-based controller. We have applied the proposed method to the duffing forced oscillation system to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

  • Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has three key features: separation of control and forwarding, centralized control, and network programmability. While improving network management flexibility, SDN has many security issues. This paper systemizes the security threats of SDN using spoofing, tampering, repudiation, information disclosure, denial of service, and elevation of privilege (STRIDE) model to understand the current security status of SDN. First, we introduce the network architecture and data flow of SDN. Second, we analyze security threats of the six types given in the STRIDE model, aiming to reveal the vulnerability mechanisms and assess the attack surface. Then, we briefly describe the corresponding defense technologies. Finally, we summarize the work of this paper and discuss the trends of SDN security research.

  • Recently technologies have created new principle and theory but the PID control system remains its popularity as the PID controller contains simple structure, including maintenance and parameter adjustment being so simple. Thus, this paper proposes auto tune PID by fuzzy logic controller based on FPGA which to achieve real time and small size circuit board. The digital PID controller design to consist of analog to digital converter which use chip TDA8763AM/3 (10 bit high-speed low power ADC), digital to analog converter which use two chip DAC08 (8 bit digital to analog converters) and fuzzy logic tune digital PID processor embedded on chip FPGA XC2S50-5tq-144. The digital PID processor was designed by fundamental PID equation which architectures including multiplier, adder, subtracter and some other logic gate. The fuzzy logic tune digital PID was designed by look up table (LUT) method which data storage into ROM refer from trial and error process. The digital PID processor verified behavior by the application program ModelSimXE. The result of simulation when input is units step and vary controller gain ($K_p$, $K_i$ and $K_d$) are similarity with theory of PID and maximum execution time is 150 ns/action at frequency are 30 MHz. The fuzzy logic tune digital PID controller based on FPGA was verified by control model of level control system which can control level into model are correctly and rapidly. Finally, this design use small size circuit board and very faster than computer and microcontroller.

CEREC$^{(R)}$ AC system으로 채득된 디지털 인상의 재현성, 정확성 평가에 관한 연구 (Reliability, accuracy of evaluations obtained from CEREC$^{(R)}$ AC system digital impression: an in-vitro study)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the reliability and accuracy of measurements in digital models(CEREC$^{(R)}$ AC) compared to stone models. Methods: A master model(500B-1, Nissin Dental Product, Japan) with the prepared upper full arch tooth was used. Conventional impression and then stone model(n=10) were produced from this master model, and on the other hands, digital impressions were made with the CEREC$^{(R)}$ AC intra-oral scanner(n=10). One examiner measured two times the intercanine, intermolar distance, dental arch length. The stone model were measured using a digital caliper. The t-student test for paired samples and intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) were used for statistical analysis. Results: The measurement of two methods showed very good reliability. At the intra-examiner reliability of measurement, ICC at the stone and CEREC$^{(R)}$ AC model were 0.81 and 0.94. The mean difference between measurements made directly on the stone models and those made on the CEREC$^{(R)}$ AC model was 0.20~0.28mm, and was statistically significant(P=0.001). Conclusion: These in vitro studies show that accuracy of the digital impression is similar to that of the conventional impression. These results will have to be confirmed in further clinical studies.

Digital Control of Phase-Shifted Full-Bridge PWM Converter

  • This paper presents the modeling and design of a digital controller for a phase-shifted full-bridge converter (PSFBC) in a discrete-time domain. The discretized PSFBC model is first derived and then analyzed considering the sampling effect and the system parameters. Based on this model, the digital controller is directly designed in a discrete-time domain. The simulation and experimental results are provided to show the validity of the proposed modeling and controller design.

직선교량에 대한 디지털엔지니어링 모델의 선형연동 프로그램 개발 (Automated Digital Engineering Modeling of Prefabricated Bridges with Parameterized Straight Alignments)

  • This report describes the development of a program that can be linked to an alignment and extracts related information using a prefab structured digital engineering model. The subject bridge was set as a straight alignment, the Superstructure type as Precast girder and the Substructure type as Precast pier and Cast-in-situ Abutment. We identified the variables required to create a digital engineering model and reviewed them to create the digital engineering model by entering them as numerical values in the program. In addition, it is configured so that the variables linked to the alignment can be entered numerically. The quantity takeoff can be calculated when the design is complete. The purpose of the program development presented in this report is to enable the designers to select the optimal alternative by designing a bridge that best fits their current situation, extracting the relevant information and then by providing it to the manufacturer and construction company.
