Performance Analysis on Soft Decision Decoding using Erasure Technique (COFDM 시스템에서 채널상태정보를 이용한 Viterbi 디코더)

  • This paper relates to the soft decision method with erasure technique in digital terrestrial television broadcasting system. The proposed decoder use the CSI derived from using the pilots in receiver. The active real(I) and imaginary(Q) data are transferred to the branch metric calculation block that decides the Euclidean distance for the soft decision decoding and also the estimated CSI values are transferred to the same block. After calculating the Euclidean distance for the soft decision decoding, the Euclidean distance of branch metric is multiplied by CSI. To do so, new branch metric values that consider each carrier state information are obtained. We simulated this method in better performance of about 0.15dB to 0.17dB and 2.2dB to 2.9dB in Rayleigh channel than that of the conventional soft decision Viterbi decoding with or without bit interleaver where the constellation is QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM.

A New Selected Mapping Scheme without Side Information Using Cross-Correlation (상호 상관을 이용한 부가정보가 필요 없는 Selected Mapping 수신방법 제안)

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems have many advantages. However, OFDM systems are much affected by a nonlinear distortion because those systems have a high peak to average power ratio(PAPR) value. A selected mapping technology was suggested to reduce a PAPR value. The technology does not have data loss but receivers need side information to know modified phase sequence. Therefore, side information causes decreased a transmission efficiency. In this paper, we suggest a blind SLM receiver using a cross correlation technology. This receiver does not require side information. The proposed blind SLM receiver calculates sums of cross-correlation between transmitted pilot signals multiplied by each phase sequence and received pilot signals. So, this receiver detects side information which has a maximum sum cross-correlation value. We compared our proposed SLM receiver to a conventional blind SLM receiver through bit error rate(BER) and side information error rate(SIER) performances. Simulation results show that the proposed SLM receiver has improved BER and SIER performances than the conventional SLM receiver.

  • The Future Wireless Railway Communication System(FWRCS) has attracted attention for the various advantages of such a system like efficient management, precise periodicity of operation and speedy travel. Related to it, the area of bandwidth requirement estimation for the FWRCS is being researched actively because there is a great need for accurate bandwidth distribution. In this paper, sophisticated bandwidth requirement estimation method for FWRCS is proposed by modifying ITU-R M.1390. With this method, the expected frequency requirements for the present, for five years from now, and for 10 years from now can be calculated by applying the data gathered from the actual field.

A Study on Modified Switching Filter Using Region Segmentation (영역 분할을 이용한 변형된 스위칭 필터에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, digital image processing is applied a lot to the broadcasting, communication, computer graphic, and medical sectors. It generates noise when data is transmitted. There are many kinds of noises that add to the image such as salt and pepper noise, AWGN, and complex noise. Thus, this study divides the corrupted image into four4 areas and estimates the types of noises each pixel, and this study suggested a switching filter that separates the estimated into salt and pepper noise and AWGN. In the case that center pixel of local mask is corrupted by salt and pepper noise, it used a histogram probability weighting of subdivided area. Also, in case that it is corrupted by AWGN, algorithm that is applied to with different weights given for the distribution of each area with using subdivided area's distribution was suggested. For an objective comparison and conclusion, this study used PSNR and compared to existing methods.

Making of View Finder for Drone Photography (드론 촬영을 위한 뷰파인더 제작)

  • A drone which was developed first for military purpose has been expanded to various civil areas, with its technological development. Of the drones developed for such diverse purposes, a drone for photography has a camera installed and is actively applied to a variety of image contents making, beyond filming and broadcasting. A drone for photography makes it possible to shoot present and dynamic images which were hard to be photographed with conventional photography technology. This study made a view finder which helps a drone operator to control a drone and directly view an object to shoot with the drone camera. The view finder for drones is a type of glasses. It was developed in the way of printing out the data modelled with 3D MAX in a 3D printer and installing a ultra-small LCD monitor. The view finder for drones makes it possible to fly a drone safely and achieve accurate framing of an object to shoot.

Changes in the Awareness of International Development Cooperation among Students Taking International Development Cooperation and Healthcare ('국제개발협력과 헬스케어' 수강생의 국제개발협력 인지도 변화)

  • Purpose : This study aimed to identify the educational effects of the International Development Cooperation and Healthcare course from 2018 to 2020. Methods : Changes in awareness of international development cooperation (understanding international development cooperation as well as government Official Development Assistance [ODA], thoughts on aid, and thoughts on government's aid scale) were analyzed using web-based surveys. The pre-course survey was conducted 1-2 weeks before the semester started, and the post-course survey was conducted 1-2 weeks after the semester ended. All data were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 program, and statistical significance was set at p< .05. Results : A total of 314 people participated in the survey before taking the course, and 286 people participated in the survey after taking the course. Analysis of the changes in students' awareness of international development cooperation showed that all items (understanding international development cooperation and government ODA, as well as having thoughts on aid and government's aid scale) were improved. Regarding changes in awareness according to general characteristics, thoughts on aid were statistically significant according to all characteristics except for 2018. Regarding government's aid scale, awareness scores increased after taking the course in students who majored in healthcare, fine arts and athletics, broadcasting and media studies, and digital contents. Conclusion : This study showed that changes in awareness of international development cooperation were largest in second-year students. Compared to changes regarding international development cooperation, government ODA, and thoughts on aid, changes regarding thoughts on government's aid scale were minor. In the future, it is necessary to develop class content suitable for the first-year level and to supplement and operate content that can change the way of thinking on government's aid scale.

Cell Coverage Based on Calculation of the Voice-Data Erlang Capacity in a WCDMA Reverse Link with Multi-rate Traffic (WCDMA 역방향 링크에서 다중속도 트래픽에 따른 음성/데이터 얼랑용량 계산과 셀 커버리지)

  • A scheme to evaluate the number of users and cell coverage of a WCDMA supporting multi-rate traffic is newly presented through calculation of the realizable Erlang capacity from a derived blocking probability and the path loss from the COST231 Walfisch-Ikegami(W) model. We evaluate the voice-data Erlang capacities at various data rates of 15 kbps to 960 kbps and it is shown that they have a linear relationship to each other. When the E$\_$b//N$\_$o/ is low from 4 ㏈ to 3 ㏈ in case of voice capacity of 50 Erlang at 8 kbps, the result shows the increase for the data capacity of 10 Erlang and the enlargement of 100 m for the cell coverage at low rate of 15 kbps, and the increase of 0.11 Erlang and the enlargement of 40 m at high rate of 960 kbps. The increase of the blocking probability results in the increase of the Erlang capacity, but not an effect on the cell coverage, and the increase of active users in a cell results in the decrease of the coverage.

Development of Valuation Framework for Estimating the Market Value of Media Contents (미디어 콘텐츠의 시장가치 산정을 위한 가치평가 프레임워크 개발)

  • Since the late 20th century, there has been much effort to improve the market value of media contents which are commercialized in a digital format, by fusing digital data of video, audio, numerals, characters with IT technology together. Then by what criteria and methodologies could the market value for the drama "Sons of the Sun" or the animated film 'Frozen', often referred to in the meida, be estimated? In the circumstances there has been little or no research on the valuation framework of media contents and the status of their valuation system development to date, we propose a practical valuation models for various purposes such as contents trading, review of investment adequacy, etc., by formalizing and presenting a contents valuation framework for the four types of media of movies, online games, and broadcasting commercials, and animations. Therefore, we develope computational methods of cash flows which includes production cost by media content types, provide reference databases associated with key variables of valuation (economic life cycle, discount rates, contents contribution and royalty rates), and finally propose the valuation framework of media contents based on both income approach and relief-from-royalty method which has been applied to valuation of intangible assets so far.

A Multimedia Contents Recommendation System using Preference Transition Probability (선호도 전이 확률을 이용한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 추천 시스템)

  • Recently Digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) has been available as a commercial service. The users sometimes have difficulty in finding their preferred multimedia contents and need to spend a lot of searching time finding them. They are even very likely to miss their preferred contents while searching for them. In order to solve the problem, we need a method for recommendation users preferred only minimum information. We propose an algorithm and a system for recommending users' preferred contents using preference transition probability from user's usage history. The system includes four agents: a client manager agent, a monitoring agent, a learning agent, and a recommendation agent. The client manager agent interacts and coordinates with the other modules, the monitoring agent gathers usage data for analyzing the user's preference of the contents, the learning agent cleans the gathered usage data and modeling with state transition matrix over time, and the recommendation agent recommends the user's preferred contents by analyzing the cleaned usage data. In the recommendation agent, we developed the recommendation algorithm using a user's preference transition probability for the contents. The prototype of the proposed system is designed and implemented on the WIPI(Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability). The experimental results show that the recommendation algorithm using a user's preference transition probability can provide better performances than a conventional method.

A PAPR Reduction Technique by the Partial Transmit Reduction Sequences (부분 전송 감소열에 의한 첨두대 평균 전력비 저감 기법)

  • It is required to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system or a multicarrier system. And it is needed to eliminate the transmission of the side information in the Partial Transmit Sequences. So, in this paper, a new technique is proposed, where the subcarriers used for the multiple signal representation are only utilized for the reduction of PAPR to eliminate the burden of transmitting the side information. That is, it is proposed by taking the modified minimization criteria of partial transmit sequences scheme instead of using the convex optimization or the fast algorithm of tone reservation(TR) technique As the result of simulation, the PAPR reduction capability of the proposed method is improved by 3.2 dB dB, 3.4 dB, 3.6 dB with M=2, 4, 8(M is the number of partition in the so-called partial transmit reduction sequences(PTRS)), when the iteration number of fast algorithm of TR is 10 and the data rate loss is 5 %. But it is degraded in the capability of PAPR reduction by 3.4 dB, 3.1 dB, 2.2 dB, comparing to the TR when the data rate loss is 20 %. Therefore, the proposed method is outperformed the TR technique with respect to the complexity and PAPR reduction capability when M=2.
