The Development of Multimedia Player Platform for Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) (지상파 이동 멀티미디어방송용 멀티미디어 재생기 개발)

  • In this paper we propose the structure of MPEG-4 multimedia player platform for Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) Service. Korea will launch DMB service at next 2004 you based on Eureka-147 Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Service System. This new mobile multimedia broadcasting services provide not only high quality digital audio broadcasting services, but also various multimedia data broadcasting services including high quality video. For the sake of MPEG-4 Systems technologies, it will provide an interactive service to users in the near future. Therefore it terminal shall have various functionalities as well as playing audio-visual contents. However there is no precedence standard for such mobile interactive multimedia broadcasting system. Therefore it is very import to provide the multimedia player platform of DMB service for accelerating the development process of commercial terminal and providing a direction of next DMB terminal structure.

  • Various kinds of data broadcasting services can be offered using a return-channel in digital broadcasting TV compared to analog services. In these data broadcasting environments, several data(associated with TV broadcasting programs, or not) are provided to the TV audiences except for audio/video broadcasting data. In this paper, a structure of data manager for data/object carousel, based on data broadcasting protocols, was proposed for data broadcasting services using a return-channel, and were supported to the production technologies of DTV contents. These contents application techniques for DTV will be implemented with this data manager in MPEG2-TS data broadcasts using PID(Packet ID).

  • The MPEG-4 multiple auxiliary component (MAC) is a good mechanism to achieve one-stream stereoscopic video coding. However, there is no syntax or semantics for the residual texture data of the disparity-compensated image in the current MAC. Therefore, we propose a novel disparity-compensated coding method using the MAC for stereoscopic video. We also define a novel MAC semantics in MPEG-4 so as to support the proposed coding algorithm. The major difference between the existing and proposed coding methods using the MAC is the addition of the residual texture coding.

  • In the 21st century, broadcasting, communication, and computer have been integrated due to the development of digital technology. Accordingly, to overcome the limit of respective communication media and to maintain them, their independent area shall not be classified. This study is to examine the future environment of digital TV broadcasting, to analyze customizing type service and interactive type TV technology, and to make asymmetric interactive digital TV publication broadcasting system, which is TV broadcasting in the next generation to treat visual image, sound, and various data all together by harmonizing broadcasting and communication like ISDB(Integrate Service Digital Broadcasting). In addition, to develop service on publication broadcasting with high quality, this study is to propose to develop relative devices for TV/PC reception to realize a new communication type TV publication broadcasting, by analyzing technology for producing, sending, transmitting, receiving, and saving to apply to customizing type interactive system and by examining its application.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze DMB(digital multimedia broadcasting) technologies of transmitting GIS-based traffic information for developing DMB systems compared with FM DARC(FM data radio channel). R&D and standardizations for transmitting GIS-based traffic information have been rapidly changed, as radical developments in ITS(intelligent transportation systems), telemaics, and communication methods such as ubiquitous and convergences of broadcasting and communications. Each communication method employs different GIS format, protocol, and standardizations, i.e., GML(geography markup language) and TPEG(transport protocol experts group). This paper presents technical methods and trends of transmitting traffic information using broadcasting along with FM DARC, in general, and DMB, in particular.

  • Wire, wireless digital broadcasting has sharply expanded with the birth of high definition TV since 2010, the use of duplex contents as well as simplex contents has rapidly increased. Currently, our satellite communications system adopted DVB by European digital broadcasting standardization organization as a standard of domestic data broadcasting, the method how to use selective contents has been studied variously according to the development of IPTV. Digital broadcasting utilizes the method using Transport Stream Packet(TSP) by the way of multiplexing of information in order to send multimedia information such as video, audio and data of MPEG-2, this streams include detail information on TV guide and program as well as video and audio information. In order to understand these data broadcasting system, this study realized TS analyzer that divides transport stream (TS) by packet in Linux environment, analyzes and prints by function, it can help the understanding of TS, the enhancement of stream parsing ability.

A Method for Describing the Information of the Broadcasting Program's Time-Slots and Its Application to a Data Service (방송프로그램의 구간 별 부가정보 기술 방법과 이를 활용한 데이터서비스 개발 사례)

  • Although the data service of the digital broadcasting has been regarded as the representative service of the broadcasting and communication convergence, it, however, has failed to gain the popularity with the viewers due to the viewer's viewing modality of focusing only on the TV programs. Based on the experts' opinions that the data service should step up so that using a data service while watching a TV program creates a synergy effect, the paper proposes a method for allowing a data service to utilize the information of a TV program. The method has a tool for describing the information of a TV program's content, which changes as time goes on and provides a mechanism for transmitting the information in the way compatible to the digital broadcasting standard. As an application of the method, with a domestic data service developing company, we have developed a ticker data service that shows the information (e.g., actors, places, sponsors, etc.) of a drama.

  • Digital Multimedia Broadcasting is the next generation broadcasting service which enables various digital multimedia contents, i.e., audio and video, and data access for mobile users. However, due to the bandwidth limitation, the spatial resolution is limited to CIF(Common Interleaved Frame). The Advanced Terrestrial DMB (AT-DMB) secures additional bandwidth by adopting hierarchical modulation transmission technology and provides high data rate and quality for mobile multimedia broadcasting services with scalable video coding(SVC). This paper proposes scalable video coding technology for AT-DMB which enables high quality mobile multimedia broadcasting services that exceeds current DMB service's quality and contents capability.

Error resilience video coding of DMB video stream using Data partitioning method. (데이터 분할방식 적용에 따른 DMB 비디오 스트림의 오류내성부호화)

  • Terrestrial DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system is the standard that offers multimedia broadcasting services at mobile environment and is based on Eureka-147 DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) for transmission method. Also DMB provides the error protection method of convolution coding. In this paper, we study on the effective error resilience coding of MPEG-4 video stream over DMB system. To accomplish error resilience, we first partition one data into several data using the data partitioning, and we control the coding rate of the convolution coding according to the importance of the partitioned data. In this algorithm, we suggest and analyze the efficient rate control algorithm considering convolution code rate.
