Characteristics of the Plasma Source for Ground Ionosphere Simulation Surveyed by Disk-Type Langmuir Probe

  • A space plasma facility has been operated with a back-diffusion-type plasma source installed in a mid-sized vacuum chamber with a diameter of ~1.5 m located in Satellite Technology Research Center (SaTReC), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). To generate plasma with a temperature and density similar to the ionospheric plasma, nickel wires coated with carbonate solution were used as filaments that emit thermal electrons, and the accelerated thermal electrons emitted from the heated wires collide with the neutral gas to form plasma inside the chamber. By using a disk-type Langmuir probe installed inside the vacuum chamber, the generation of plasma similar to the space environment was validated. The characteristics of the plasma according to the grid and plate anode voltages were investigated. The grid voltage of the plasma source is realized as a suitable parameter for manipulating the electron density, while the plate voltage is suitable for adjusting the electron temperature. A simple physical model based on the collision cross-section of electron impact on nitrogen molecule was established to explain the plasma generation mechanism.

  • 사이클로펜타디에닐 디카보닐 코발트 (Co(η(sup)5-C(sub)5H(sub)5) ($CO_2$)의 반응성 화학 기상 증착법에 의해 $600^{\circ}C$ 근처의기판온도에서 (100)Si 기판 위에 균일한 에피택셜 CoSi2 층이 후열처리를 거치지 않고 직접 성장되었다. (100) Si 기판 위에서 에피택셜 CoSi(sub)2 층의 성장 속도론을 $575^{\circ}C$에서 $650^{\circ}C$의 온도 구간에서 조사하였다. 증착 초기 단계에서 판(plate)모양의 CoSi(sub)2 스차이크가 쌍정의 구조를 가지고 (100) Si 기판에서 <111> 방향을 따라서 불연속적으로 핵생성되었다. {111}과 (100)면을 가진 불연속의 CoSi(sub)2 판은 (100) Si 위에서 평평한 계면으로 이루어진 에피택셜 층으로 성장했다. (100) Si 위에서 에피택셜 CoSi(sub)2 층을 통한 Co의 확산에 의해 제어되는 것으로 나타났다.

Cu 첨가된 Zr-Nb계 합금에서 열처리조건이 미세조직과 내식성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Heat Treatment Conditions on Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Cu-contained Zr-Nb Alloy)

  • The effects of the cooling and annealing conditions on the microstructures and corrosion properties were investigated for the Cu-contained Zr-Nb alloy (Zr-1.1Nb-0.07Cu). After annealing at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 15 min, the specimens were cooled by three methods of water quenching, air cooling, and furnace cooling. Widmanstatten structures were developed in both air- and furnace-cooled specimens, and the Widmanstatten plate width of the furnace-cooled specimens was wider than that of the air-cooled ones. The weight gain in the furnace-cooling case was higher than that in the air-cooling case. This could be the reason why the diffusion time was more enough during the furnace cooling than the air cooling. The oxide of the furnace-cooled specimen was nonunformly formed just beneath the Widmanstatten plate boundaries, where ${\beta}_{Zr}$ phases were exised concentrately. Compared with the $640^{\circ}C$ annealing after the water quenching, the $570^{\circ}C$ annealing could make the ${\beta}_{Nb}$ phases and a concomitant reduction of the Nb in the matrix, and then it could improve the corrosion resistance with the increase of the annealing time. It would be concluded that the corrosion resistance of the Zr-1.1Nb-0.07Cu was good when the Nb concentration in the matrix was reached at an equilibrium level and then the ${\beta}_{Nb}$ phase was formed.

영남지역 출토 금제 귀걸이의 성분 조성에 따른 유형 분류와 금속 재료 특성 (Type Classification and Material Properties by the Composition of Components in Gold Earrings Excavated from the Yeongnam Region)

  • 영남지역에서 출토된 6~7세기 신라 금제 귀걸이 23점에 대한 성분 분석을 실시하고, 금판에 포함된 은(Ag) 함량을 기준으로 세 가지 유형으로 분류하였다. I 유형(20~50wt%), II 유형(10~20wt%), III 유형(10wt% 이하)으로 구분하였는데, I II 유형의 귀걸이 금판은 금(Au) 함량이 상대적으로 높은 부분에서 미세한 기공이 집중적으로 분포되는 현상이 관찰되었다. 금판 표면의 성분 차이 발생 원인을 네 가지로 구분하여 1) 표면 처리, 2) 제작 과정에서 열 확산, 3) 사금의 성분 차이, 4) 금의 정련 방법 측면에서 검토하였다. 금판 표면의 금 함량이 상대적으로 높은 부분에서는 미세한 기공이 집중적으로 관찰되며, 이와 관련하여 금 합금 표면에 의도적으로 금을 제외한 금속 성분을 제거하면서 금 함량을 높이는 고갈 도금(depletion gilding) 가능성을 제시하였다. 의도적인 표면 처리와 더불어 제작 과정에서 금판과 금속 봉 사이에 열 확산이 일어나 금판의 구리 함량이 높아진 사례를 세환이식의 분석 결과로 확인되었다. 금판의 재료적인 측면에서 살펴보면 금판에 포함된 은(Ag)이 자연금에 포함된 것인지, 합금에 의해 추가된 것인지를 국내에서 채취된 사금 분석을 통해 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 평균적으로 13wt% 정도의 은이 포함된 것으로 미루어 보아 II 유형은 자연금의 범주에 포함되고, III 유형은 정련 과정을 거친 금, I 유형은 자연금에 은이 합금된 것으로 보인다. 여기에서 III 유형의 경우 정련 과정을 거쳐 순수한 금을 만든 뒤 은을 합금했을 가능성에 대해 국내외 고대 문헌에 소개된 금 정련 방법을 조사하였다. 고대 정련 방법은 자연금에 포함된 은이 염화물 또는 황화물과 반응하여 결합됨으로써 제거되는 방법이었는데, 이러한 방법을 통해 순수한 금을 얻기 위해서는 장시간의 노력과 기술이 요구된다는 것이 밝혀졌다. 따라서 정련 과정을 통해 순금을 만든 후에 강도를 높이기 위해 소량의 은을 첨가했을 가능성은 낮아 보인다.

유로형상 및 운전조건에 따른 고분자 전해질 연료전지의 성능 특성 (Performance Characteristics of PEMFC by flow Configurations and Operating Condition)

  • For proton exchange membrane fuel cell, it is very important to design the flow channel on separation plate optimally to maximize the current density at same electrochemical reaction surface and reduce the concentration polarization occurred at high current density. In this paper, three dimensional computation model including anode and cathode domain together was developed to examine effects of flow patterns and operation conditions such as humidity and operating temperature on performance of fuel cell. Results show that voltage at counter flow condition is higher than that at coflow condition in parallel and interdigitated flow pattern. And fuel cell with interdigitated flow pattern which has better mass transport by convection flow through gas diffusion layer has higher performance than with parallel flow pattern but its pressure drop is increased such that the trade off between performance and pressure drop should be considered for selection of flow pattern of fuel cell.

Streptococcus mutans와 Porphyromonas gingivalis에 대한 Basil Oil의 항균효과 (Anti-Bacterial Effects of Basil Oil on Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis)

  • Purpose : The study objective was to assess the antibacterial activity of essential oil of basil against S. mutans and P. gingivalis and to explore its potential to prevent dental caries and peridontal disease. Method : Essential oil of basil, extracted using steam distillation, was diluted with triple distilled water and Tween 20 to generate samples at various concentration, that is 30%, 50%, and 70% (v/v). Strains of S. mutans and P. gingivalis were incubated in the medium under anaerobic condition. Broth microdilution susceptibility testing and plate incubation diffusion were utilized to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and to measure antibacterial activity, respectively. Result : An upsurge in antibacterial activity was seen to correlate with and increase in the concentration used for both bacterial strains, but was more significant with S. mutans. A statistically significant growth inhibition effect and reduction in the number of colonies was also observed with both strains dependent on the concentration used following 24 hours of incubation. Conclusion : Thus, the current study finding was that essential oil of basil was effective against dental caries and periodontal disease and could be used in dentifrice to help prevent oral disease.

NON LINEAR VARIABLE VISCOSITY ON MHD MIXED CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER ALONG HIEMENZ FLOW OVER A THERMALLY STRATIFIED POROUS WEDGE

  • The effect of variable viscosity on MHD mixed convection Hiemenz flow over a thermally stratified porous wedge plate has been studied in the presence of suction or injection. The wall of the wedge is embedded in a uniform Darcian porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or injection and has a power-law variation of the wall temperature. An approximate numerical solution for the steady laminar boundary-layer flow over a wall of the wedge in the presence of thermal diffusion has been obtained by solving the governing equations using numerical technique. The fluid is assumed to be viscous and incompressible. Numerical calculations are carried out for different values of dimensionless parameters and an analysis of the results obtained shows that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the magnetic effect, variable viscosity, thermal stratification and suction / injection at wall surface. Effects of these major parameters on the transport behaviors are investigated methodically and typical results are illustrated to reveal the tendency of the solutions. Comparisons with previously published works are performed and excellent agreement between the results is obtained.

  • 고분자 물질 용액에 감자 절편을 침지시의 탈수현상을 설명하기 위해 (1) 비정상 상태(unsteadystate)에서의 확산 식을 초기시간에 대해 단순화시킨 모델, (2) 침지시간별로 수분확산계수와 평균확산계수를 비교하여 탈수현상을 설명하고자 한 모델, (3) 물질이동에 대한 Fick의 제2법칙을 무한평판의 조건에서 전체 시간에 대해 전개한 모델 등 3가지 모델을 가정하여 검토한 결과 PEG용액에 감자절편을 침지했을 때 물질이동의 동력학적인 해석은 Fick의 제2법칙에 근거한 모델이 잘 적용되었으며 수분의 확산계수를 추정한 결과 8$\times$$10^{-7}$~4$\times$$10^{-6}$$ extrm{cm}^2$/s 범위였다.

  • 본 연구를 통하여 우리는 새로운 실험기구를 사용하여 방사성동위원소(Lu-177)의 항균능력을 측정하였다. 기존에 약물의 항균능력을 측정하는데 사용되었던 디스크법은 배지로의 약물 확산에 의해서 항균능력을 측정하는 방법이기 때문에 방사성동위원소에 적용하기는 적합하지 않아 새로운 실험 방법이 요구된다. 방사성동위원소의 항균능력을 측정하기 위해서는 배지로의 약물 확산을 막고 한점에 머무르게 하는 방법이 필요하다. 본 연구에서 우리는 새로운 실험도구를 이용하여 Lu-177의 방사능량이 증가할수록 항균능력이 증가함을 확인하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 실험방법을 통해 다른 방사성동위원소의 항균능력도 쉽게 측정할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

PLASTICITY-BASED WELDING DISTORTION ANALYSIS OF THIN PLATE CONNECTIONS

  • In autobody assembly, thin-wall, tubular connections have been used for the frame structure. Recent interest in light materials, such as aluminum or magnesium alloys, has been rapidly growing for weight reduction and fuel efficiency. Due to higher thermal expansion coefficient, low stiffness/strength, and low softening temperature of aluminum and magnesium alloys, control of welding-induced distortion in these connections becomes a critical issue. In this study, the material sensitivity to welding distortion was investigated using a T-tubular connection of three types materials; low carbon steel (A500 Gr. A), aluminum alloy (5456-H116) and magnesium alloy (AZ91C-T6). An uncoupled thermal and mechanical finite element analysis scheme using the ABAQUS software program was developed to model and simulate the welding process, welding procedure and material behaviors. The predicted angular distortions were correlated to the cumulative plastic strains. A unique relationship between distortion and plastic strains exists for all three materials studied. The amount of distortion is proportional to the magnitude and distribution of the cumulative plastic strains in the weldment. The magnesium alloy has the highest distortion sensitivity, followed by the other two materials with the steel connection having the least distortion. Results from studies of thin-aluminum plates show that welding distortion can be minimized by reducing the cumulative plastic strains by preventing heat diffusion into the base metal using a strong heat sink placed directly beneath the weld. A rapid cooling method is recommended to reduce welding distortion of magnesium tubular connections.
