DFB 레이저 다이오드를 위한 홀로그래픽 시스템을 이용한 회절격자 제작 (Grating fabrication for DFB laser diode using holographic interferometer system)

  • Periodic gratings for 1.55$\mu$m distributed feedback laser diode (DFB LD) have been fabricated by a holographic interference exposure system using an etalon stabilized Ar ion laser. We obtain a good development condition at developer concentration of 65% and obtain etching rate of 1000$\AA$/min at 20.deg. C by the mixed solution HBr:HNO$_{3}$:H$_{2}$O(1:1:10 in volume ratio). We obtain good first order grating with period of 2400${\AA}[\pm}2{\AA}$ at etching time of 45 sec from grating period and diffraction efficiency measurement, and SEM observation of grating fabricated on InP substrate.

  • An imaging spectrograph concept optimized for extended far-ultraviolet emission sources is presented. Although the design was originally developed for FIMS aboard the first Korean science satellite STSAT-l launched on September 27, 2003, no rigorous theoretical background of the spectrograph design has been published. The spectrograph design employs an off-axis parabolic cylinder mirror in front of a slit that guides lights to a diffraction grating. The concave grating provides moderate spatial resolution over a large field of view. This mapping capability is absent in most astronomical instruments but is crucial to the understanding of the nature of a variety of astrophysical phenomena. The aberration theory presented in this paper can be extended to holographic gratings in order to improve the spatial as well as the spectral resolutions.

Fresnel 렌즈 금형 가공기술 연구 (A Study on the Machining of Fresnel Lens Mould)

  • Fresnel lenses are developed for flat optics with the optical characteristics close to aspherical lens such as sharp focusing and dispersion instead of spherical or aspherical surface. Usually, these fresnel lenses and diffraction gratings are machined by high-energy beam such as electron beam machining, but recently with the development of ultra precision machine tool and machining technology, 3-dimension micro machining becomes preferable. This study on the micro machining of fresnel lens is carried out to develop the basic technology of ultra precision micro machining. The machined lens mold will be used for the manufacturing of fresnel lens with 120mm focal distance using synthetic resin material with 1.49 refractive index(PMMA), and the shape of lens is 48mm diameter, $300\mum$ pitch and about $5-700\mum$depth of groove in brass.

  • With dichromated bleacher and alcohol drying, over effi. of 81% has been achieved for holographic gratings. It is recorded by two plane waves at 632.8 nm in Agfa 8E75 film. Swollen emulsion and rapid dehydration make a strong modulation. The model works well close to the Bragg condition. It is suggested modified parameters of coupled-wave theory which have good agreement with experimental results.

Thermal fixing of multiple holographic gratings in magnesium oxide lithium niobate crystal

  • The photorefractive properties of 4% mol magnesium oxide doped lithium niobate have been investigated at room temperature. The recording and erasing time constants were measured as a function of intensity and analyzed by using the two active species (electron-hole) model. The results were used to compute the exposure schedule for multiple hologram recording. We have recorded grating of five holograms by angular multiplexing at room temperature and fixed them by means of a thermal cycling procedure. The highest diffraction efficiency of a fixed grating is up to 50% of an unfixed one.

Talbot Interferometry for Measuring the Focal Length of a Lens without Moiré Fringes

  • A simple method to determine the focal length of a lens using the Talbot image is presented. This method uses only one grating, requiring neither Moir$\acute{e}$ fringe analysis nor the angle between the gratings. The original Fourier transform was used to access the spectrum beyond the limitation set of the usual fast Fourier transform to determine the (de)magnification accurately enough to be used for the focal length. A set of Talbot images simulated numerically with the Fresnel diffraction integral was used to demonstrate the method. For focal lengths between 5550 mm and 5650 mm, the mean difference between the focal lengths determined from the Talbot images and the true values was 3.3 mm with the standard deviation of the difference being 3.8 mm. The true focal lengths can be recovered with an accuracy of 0.06%.

A Fiber Laser Spectrometer Demodulation of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors for Measurement Linearity Enhancement

  • A novel fiber-optic sensor system is suggested in which fiber Bragg grating sensors are demodulated by a wavelength-sweeping fiber laser source and a spectrometer. The spectrometer consists of a diffraction grating and a 512-pixel photo-diode array. The reflected Bragg wavelength information is transformed into spatial intensity distribution on the photo-diode array. The peak locations linearly correspond to the Bragg wavelengths, regardless of the nonlinearities in the wavelength tuning mechanism of the fiber laser. The high power density of the fiber laser enables obtaining high signal-to-noise ratio outputs. The improved demodulation characteristics were experimentally demonstrated with a fiber Bragg grating sensor array with 5 gratings. The sensor outputs were in much more linear fashion compared with the conventional tunable band-pass filter demodulation. Also it showed advantages in signal processing, due to the high level of photo-diode array signals, over the broadband light source system, especially in measurement of fast varying dynamic physical quantities.

  • New photopolymers were designed and prepared using the photosensitive polymer binders. The photochemical reaction of the photosensitive polymer binder was studied by virtue of UV absorption and infrared spectroscopy. The holographic gratings were successfully fabricated in these photopolymer film samples by conventional optical interference method. We also investigated the effect of photocrosslink in the polymer binder on the diffraction behavior of the photopolymer. The dynamic behaviors of the grating formation were studied with the change of exposure intensity in terms of the diffraction efficiency. Particularly, we focused our efforts to observe the variation of the diffraction efficiency during post UV curing process.

원격 유성 분광 관측 시스템 구축과 관측 사례 연구 (Establishment of Remote Meteor Spectroscopic Observation System and Observation Case Study)

  • 운장산 천문대에 있는 원격 유성 분광 관측 시스템의 설치 및 운영에 대해 자세히 설명한다. 총 3대의 고감도 CCD 카메라가 설치되었으며 2대의 CCD 카메라에는 렌즈 전면에 회절 격자를 부착하였다. 시스템은 2019년 11월에 설치되었고, f/1.2 렌즈와 결합된 고감도의 "Watec-902H2" 카메라가 사용되었다. 스펙트럼 관찰을 위한 회절 격자는 500 l/mm이 사용되었다. 관측은 2019년 11월부터 2020년 6월까지 진행되었다. 유성 탐지 및 후속 분석을 위해 SonotaCo UFO 소프트웨어 제품군을 사용했으며, 유성 스펙트럼을 분석하기 위해서는 RSpec 소프트웨어를 사용하였다. 관측영상을 활용하기 위해 Astronomical Calibration과 Photometric Calibration을 수행하였고, 최종적으로 유성의 화학 성분을 분석하였다. 우리는 유성 분광 관측 시스템의 설치와 설정/운영 경험을 설명하고 첫 번째 관측 결과를 제시한다. 또한 결과를 통해 유성의 기원에 대한 간략한 정보를 제공하고자 한다.

접속이온빔 리소그라피를 이용한 고굴절 비정질 박막 투과 격자 형성 (Transmission Grating Formation in High Refractive-index Amorphous Thin Films Using Focused-Ion-Beam Lithography)

  • In this study, we investigated the optical properties of sub-wavelength a-Si thin film transmission gratings, especially the polarization effect, the phase difference and the birefringence by using linearly polarized He-Ne laser beam (632.8nm). The a-Si transmission grating of the thickness $of < 0.1 \mum$ with four-type period($\Lambda = 0.4 \mum and 0.6 \mum$ for sub-wavelength and $\Lambda = 1.0 \mum and 1.4 \mum$ for above-wavelength) on quartz substrates have been fabricated using 50 KeV Ga+ Focused-Ion-Beam(FIB) Milling and $CF_4$Reactive-Ion-Etching(RIE) method. Finally, we obtained the trating array of a-Si thin film with a period $0.4 \mum, 0.6 \mum, 1.0 \mum, 1.4 \mum$ which have nearly equal finger spacing and width, sucessfully. Especially, for gratings with $\Lambda = 0.6 \mum(linewidth=0.25 \mum, linespace=0.35\mum), the \etamax at \theta_в=17.0^{\circ}$ is estimated to be 96%. As the results, we believe that the sub-wavelength grating arrayed a-Si thin film has the applicability as the optical device and components.
