The novel oligomers were synthesized by Grignard reaction, the suzuki coupling reaction, etc. The oligomers were characterized by Infrared (IR), Mass spectrometer (MS). Their thermal properties were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The new oligomers showed high thermal stability above $300^{\circ}C$.
The cure kinetics of blends of epoxy (DGEBA, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A)/anhydride resin with polyamide copolymer, poly(dimmer acid-co-alkyl polyamine), were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) under isothermal condition. On increasing the amount of polyamide copolymer in the blends, the reaction rate was increased and the final cure conversion was decreased. Lower values of final cure conversions in the epoxy/(polyamide copolymer) blends indicate that polyamide hinders the cure reaction between the epoxy and the curing agent. The value of the reaction order, m, for the initial autocatalytic reaction was not affected by blending polyamide copolymer with epoxy resin, and the value was approximately 1.3, whereas the reaction order, n, for the general n-th order of reaction was increased by increasing the amount of polyamide copolymer in the blends, and the value increased from 1.6 to 4.0. A diffusion-controlled reaction was observed as the cure conversion increased and the rate equation was successfully analyzed by incorporating the diffusion control term for the epoxy/anhydride/(polyamide copolymer) blends. Complete miscibility was observed in the uncured blends of epoxy/(polyamide copolymer) up to 120 $^{\circ}C$, but phase separations occurred in the early stages of the curing process at higher temperatures than 120 "C. During the curing process, the cure reaction involving the functional group in polyamide copolymer was detected on a DSC thermogram.gram.
In this paper, a class of linear second order singularly perturbed delay differential turning point problems containing a small delay (or negative shift) on the reaction term and when the solution of the problem exhibits twin boundary layers are examined. A hybrid finite difference scheme on an appropriate piecewise-uniform Shishkin mesh is constructed to discretize the problem. We proved that the method is almost second order ε-uniformly convergent in the maximum norm. Numerical experiments are considered to illustrate the theoretical results.
A modern kinetic evaluation method for nonisothermal reactions measured with Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) is presented. It is based on multiple linear regression analysis using a number of curve points in a selectable range of conversion. The obtained kinetic data are the basis to compute a reaction process under any condition e.g. isothermal or adiabatic. The DSC measurements was performed on a Mettler TA3000 SYSTEM with the built in evaluation software. Mainly the following reactions are discussed: vulcanization of natural rubber compounds containing vulcanizing accelerators. The purpose of this work is to analyse the vulcanization kinetics of typical NR vulcanization systems using DSC. These systems were chosen because they are typically reactive elastomer and are commercially important.
The yeast Candida albicans has a distinguishing feature, dimorphism, which is the ability to switch between two morphological forms: a budding yeast form and a multicellular invasive filamentous form. This ability has been postulated to contribute to the virulence of this organism. Previously, we reported that the yeast-to-hypha transition in this organism is suppressed by farnesoic acid, a morphogenic autoregulatory substance that accumulates in the medium as the cells proliferate. In this study, using a differential display reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (DDRT-PCR) technique, we have identified several genes induced in C. albicans by farnesoic acid treatment. These observations indicate that farnesoic acid can alter the expressivity of multiple genes, including the DNA replication machinery and cell-cycle-control proteins.
Numerical methods are developed to obtain the buckling loads and to analyze the postbuckling behavior of the tapered steel piles. The nondimensional differential equations governing the elastica of the buckled piles are derived by the third order theory and solved numerically. The Runge-Kutta method is used to solve the differential equations, and the bisection method is used to obtain the buckling loads and the reaction moments of the clamped ends. Both the linear and stepped taper of the steel piles are considered as the variable crosssection in the differential equations. As the numerical results, the equilibrium paths, the buckling loads vs. section ratio curves and the typical elastica and the bending moment diagrams of the buckled piles are presented in figures. Experimental studies that complement the theoretical results are presented. It is expected that the numerical methods developed in this study for calculating the buckling loads and analyzing the postbuckling behavior of the steel piles are used in the structural and foundation engineering.
In this paper, numerical treatment of singularly perturbed parabolic delay differential equations is considered. The considered problem have small delay on the spatial variable of the reaction term. To treat the delay term, Taylor series approximation is applied. The resulting singularly perturbed parabolic PDEs is solved using Crank Nicolson method in temporal direction with non-standard finite difference method in spatial direction. A detail stability and convergence analysis of the scheme is given. We proved the uniform convergence of the scheme with order of convergence O(N-1 + (∆t)2), where N is the number of mesh points in spatial discretization and ∆t is mesh length in temporal discretization. Two test examples are used to validate the theoretical results of the scheme.
A parameter uniform numerical scheme is proposed for solving singularly perturbed parabolic partial differential-difference convection-diffusion equations with a small delay and advance parameters in reaction terms and spatial variable. Taylor's series expansion is applied to approximate problems with the delay and advance terms. The resulting singularly perturbed parabolic convection-diffusion equation is solved by utilizing the implicit Euler method for the temporal discretization and finite difference method for the spatial discretization on a uniform mesh. The proposed numerical scheme is shown to be an ε-uniformly convergent accurate of the first order in time and second-order in space directions. The efficiency of the scheme is proved by some numerical experiments and by comparing the results with other results. It has been found that the proposed numerical scheme gives a more accurate approximate solution than some available numerical methods in the literature.
Thermal behavior of dickite was studied by thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, electron microprobe analysis, and scanning electron microscopy, Dickite has an endothermic peak at about$ 650^{\circ}C$ and an exothermic one at $960^{\circ}C$ in the differential thermal analysis. The endothermic reaction is assigned to the decomposition of dickite to meta-dickite. Hydroxyl radicals are removed from dickite structure by the reaction, resulting in the weight loss about 10.5~14.5% and appearance of a 14$\AA$ phase different from other kaolin minerals. The reaction slowly proceed in the range of $200^{\circ}C$. As the completion of decomposition, aciclular mullite forms at the expense of meta-dickite plates with random crystallographic relationship. Mullites have diverse silica versus alumina ratio. The exothermic reaction without weight loss seems to be due to the formation of spinel and amorphous silica. The spinel phase shows cryptocrystalline globular morphology accompanying a little amount of silica. From spinel phase shows cryptocrystalling globular morphology accompanying a little amount of silica. From this work, it is suggested that mullite is formed from meta-dickite much lower temperature than the reported one in the previous works.
In general, manufacturing processes of thermosetting composites consist of mold filling and resin cure. The important parameters used in modeling and designing mold filling are the permeability of the fibrous preform and the viscosity of the resin. To consolidate a composite, resin cure or chemical reaction plays an essential role. Cure kinetics. Therefore, is necessary to quantify the extent of chemical reaction or degree of cure. It is also important to predict resin viscosity which can change due to chemical reaction during mold filling. There exists a heat transfer between the mold and the composite during mold filling and resin cure. Cure kinetics is also used to predict a temperature profile inside composite. In this study, a new scheme which can determine cure kinetics from dynamic temperature scaning was proposed. The method was applied to epoxy resin system and was verified by comparing measurements and predictions.
