In this paper, the prediction method of the differential column shortening for cracked reinforced concrete tall buildings due to the construction sequence is presented. The cracked sectional properties from the strain and curvature of the sectional centroid is directly used. And the stiffness matrix of concrete elements considering the axial strain-curvature interaction effect is adopted. The creep and shrinkage properties used in the predictions were calculated in accordance with ACI 209, CEB-FIP 1990, and B3 model code. In order to demonstrate the validity of this algorithm, the prediction by the proposed method are compared with both the results of the in-situ test and the results by other simplified method. The proposed method is in good agreement with experimental results, and better than the simplified method.

RC super tall buildings are planned and constructed recently in domestic area. Concrete is characterized by time dependant material such as creep and shrinkage. For this properties of concrete, differential shortening is one of the main issues on super tall buildings construction. This study includes material research, which is performing as a pre design stage to solve differential shortening on Lotte Super Tower Jamsil core structure(50, 60, & 70 MPa). The major part of this study is composed with comparison and analysis between experimental data and predicted data on total shrinkage and total compliance which were used on design stage. Four models, ACI209R Model, Ba${\check{z}}$ant-Baweja B3 Model, CEB MC99 Model, & GL2000 Model, were employed to predict them. It also tries to seek a proper model for high strength and high performance concrete in the case of no concrete test.
This paper presents a generic modelling of composite steel-concrete beams with elastic shear connection. It builds on the well-known seminal technique of Newmark, Siess and Viest, in order to formulate the partial interaction formulation for solution under a variety of end conditions, and lends itself well for modification to enable direct quantification of effects such as shrinkage, creep, and limited shear connection slip capacity. This application is possible because the governing differential equations are set up and solved in a fashion whereby inclusion of the kinematic and static end conditions merely requires a statement of the appropriate constants of integration that are generated in the solution of the linear differential equations. The method is applied in the paper for the solution of the well-studied behaviour of simply supported beams with partial interaction, as well as to provide solutions for a beam encastr$\acute{e}$ at its ends, and for a propped cantilever.
This paper is designed to propose methods to both analyze and control the reasons for cracks appearing during the construction of piers. For this aim, a numerical analysis was performed to identify the properties of crack which resulted from heat of hydration and differential drying shrinkage with the key influence factors considered. The results show that the thermal cracks occurred within a few days, and the drying shrinkage cracks within a few weeks. Meanwhile, settlement shrinkage cracks occurred within a few hours. Discussing the control methods based on the time of the cracks appearing, quality control, reduction of the unit quantity of cement, and the preservation of moisture on the surface are proposed as the realistic and effective methods for preventing settlement cracks, thermal cracks, and drying shrinkage cracks respectively.

This study grasped the relationship between relative humidity in concrete and concrete shrinkage followed by pre-absorbed water of porous lightweight aggregates through measurements of concrete shrinkage and humidity and comparisons with established research results. It was showed that shrinkage reduction effect of lightweight concrete is 36% at 7 days early ages and 25% at 180 days long-term ages when water-binder ratio is 0.3. It also showed that shrinkage reduction effect is 19% at 7 days and 16% at 180 days when water-binder ratio is 0.4 and 37%, 32% when water-binder ratio is 0.5. The moisture supply effect of lightweight aggregates was remarkable at early age within 7~10 days irrespective of water-binder ratio. In case of waterbinder ratio is 0.3, the relationship between shrinkage and internal humidity of concrete has been underestimated regardless of applied existing model type and in case of water-binder ratio is 0.4, 0.5, measurement values are relatively similar with existing model equations. Finally this study did regression analyses about the relation among the humidity change and the shrinkage strain as a high-degree polynomial and derived parameters that can connect moisture movement analysis with differential shrinkage analysis in case of considering relative humidity at the time by moisture movement analysis of concrete.
An analytical method considering axial equilibrium is proposed for the short- and long-term analyses of shear lag effect in reinforced concrete (RC) box girders. The axial equilibrium of box girders is taken into account by using an additional generalized displacement, referred to as the longitudinal displacement of the web. Three independent shear lag functions are introduced to describe different shear lag intensities of the top, bottom, and cantilever plates. The time-dependent material properties of the concrete are simulated by the age-adjusted effective modulus method (AEMM), while the reinforcement is assumed to behave in a linear-elastic fashion. The differential equations are derived based on the longitudinal displacement of the web, the vertical displacement of the cross section, and the shear lag functions of the flanges. The time-dependent expressions of the generalized displacements are then deduced for box girders subjected to uniformly distributed loads. The accuracy of the proposed method is validated against the finite element results regarding the short- and long-term responses of a simply-supported RC box girder. Furthermore, creep analyses considering and neglecting shrinkage are performed to quantify the time effects on the long-term behavior of a continuous RC box girder. The results show that the proposed method can well evaluate both the short- and long-term behavior of box girders, and that concrete shrinkage has a considerable impact on the concrete stresses and internal forces, while concrete creep can remarkably affect the long-term deflections.

In the present paper, for a quantitative assessment of early-age cracking in an RC wall, an improved analytical model is proposed. First of all, a three-dimensional finite element model for the analysis of stresses due to hydration heat and differential drying shrinkage is introduced. A discrete steel element derived using the equivalent nodal force concept is used to simulate reinforcing steels, embedded in a concrete matrix. In advance, to quantitatively calculate the cracking potential, an analytical model that can estimate the post-cracking behavior in an RC tension member is proposed Subsequent comparisons. of analytical results with test results verify that the combined use of both the finite element model for the stress analysis as well as the analytical model for the estimation of the post-cracking behavior in an RC tension member make it possible to accurately predict the cracking ,behavior of RC walls.

The primary objective of this study is to compare the effects that are caused by shrinkage and creep of a concrete bridge deck during its construction. In this study four different bridge structures were compared. Two straight box girders and two curved box girders were compared for stress changes in positive moment region and negative moment region due to the effects of concrete. The effects on displacement behavior by the assumed section length by concrete placement were also studied. The analyses were performed by using Vlasov equation and finite difference numerical method to solve the governing differential equation.

The early -age behavior of base restrained reinforced concrete (RC) walls is analyzed using a three-dimensional finite element method in this study. After calculating the temperature and internal relative humidity variations of an RC wall, determination of stresses due to thermal gradients, differential drying shrinkage, and average drying shrinkage is followed, and the relative contribution of these three stress components to the total stress is compared. The mechanical properties of early-age concrete, determined from many experimental studies, are taken into consideration, and a discrete reinforcing steel derived using the equivalent nodal force concept is also used to simulate the cracking behavior of RC walls. In advance, to Predict the crack spacing and maximum crack width in a base restrained RC wall, an analytical model which can simulate the post-cracking behavior of an RC tension member is introduced on the basis of the energy equilibrium before and after cracking of concrete.
Before resin composites can serve as durable substitutes for amalgam restorations, the adhesive system used to retain them and add to seal dentin must be improved. The recent observations, using the newly developed LVDT (linear variable differential transformer) probe, that all commercial bonding systems cause a collapse of the demineralized dentin matrix, simulated a re-evaluation of the effects of these formulations on the matrix. The experiment was begun by examining solvents such as water-HEMA mixtures. These produced the same shrinkages as did the complete formulations.(omitted)
