Experimental Determination of Differential Fast Neutron Spectra in a Reactor using Threshold Detectors

  • The differential fast neutron spectra above 0.5 Mev at particular spatial positions in tile reactor(TRIGA MARK-II) core has been determined experimentally using several threshold activation detectors. The series expansion technique utilizing the concept of least squares optimization was used to obtain an approximate solution to the set of integral equations which are defined by the experimentally determined activation data. The influence of use of different weighting functions in the solution was analyzed in each measurement. To carry out the necessary mathematical calculations, a computer code for the UNIVAC 1106 digital computer has been prepared. Good agreement was achieved between the differential fast neutron spectra determined in this work and the computed flux determined independently using space-independent multigroup transport theory.

A theory of linear quasi-time invariant filters

  • In this paper, the eigenstructure of a class of linear time varying systems, termed as linear quasi-time invariant(LQTI) systems, is investigated. A system composed of dynamic devices such as linear time varying capacitors and resistors can be an example of the class. To effectively describe and analyze the LQTI systems, a generalized differential operator G is introduced. Then the dynamic systems described by the operator G are studied in terms of eigenvalue, frequency characteristics, stability and an extended convolution. Some basic attributes of the operator G are compared with those of the differential operator D. Also the corresponding generalized Laplace transform pair is defined and relevant properties are derived for frequency domain analysis of the systems under consideration. As an application example, a LQTI circuit is examined by using the concept of eigenstructure of LQTI system. The LQTI filter processes the sinusoidal signals modulated by some functions.

  • The existence and behavior of a bounded solution for a perturbed nonlinear differential equation of the type $$ (DE) x'(t) + Ax(t) \ni G(x(t)), t \in [0, \infty) $$ is considered. First, we consider the existence of a bounded solution with more simple assumptions using the concept of "the method of lines". Then we devote to study its behavior using recent results of almost non-expansive curve which is developed by Djafari Rouhani.i Rouhani.

  • The design and implementation of a drive wheel position, orientation, and velocity feedback control algorithm for a differential-drive mobile robot is described here. A new concept, the most significant error, is introduced as the control design objective. Drive wheel position, orientation, and velocity feedback control directly minimize the most siginificant error by coordinating the motion of the two drive wheels. The drive wheel position, orientation, and velocity feedback control algorithm is analyzed and experiments are conducted to evaluate its performance. The experimental results are shown that drive wheel position, orientation and velocity feedback control algorithm yields substantially smaller position and orientation errors than those of conventional methods.

  • This paper proposes an interaction field concept based on the field theory of plasticity. Relative deformation between two arbitrary scales, e.g., macro and micro fields, is defined which can be implemented in the crystal plasticity-based constitutive framework. Differential geometrical quantities responsible for describing dislocations and defects in the interaction field are obtained, based on which dislocation density and incompatibility tensors are further derived. It is shown that the explicit interaction exists in the curvature or incompatibility tensor field, whereas no interaction in the torsion or dislocation density tensor field. General expressions of the interaction fields over multiple scales with more than three scale levels are derived and implemented into the present constitutive equation.

Free Vibrations and First Critical Loads of Tapered Columns (변단면 기둥의 자유진동 및 최소임계하중 해석)

  • The main purpose of this paper is to present both the natural frequencies and the first critical loads of tapered columns. The ordinary differential equation governing the free vibration for tapered columns under compressive axial force is derived. Three kinds of cross sectional shape are considered in the governing equation. The Runge-Kutta method and determinant search method are used to perform the integration of the differential equation and to determine the natural frequencies, respectively. Additionally, the bisection method is used to determine the critical loads. In numerical examples, the effects of compressive axial force on the natural frequencies of tapered columns are investigated varying the end conditions.   • The piled raft foundation Is an innovative design concept to reduce both the maximum settlement and differential settlements caused by concentrated building loads and load eccentricities, and also to reduce the bending moments of the raft. The main concern given in the design of piled raft foundations is proper judgments both of relative proportions of loads carried by the raft and piles, and of the effect of the pile support on the maximum and differential settlements In the present study, the piled raft foundation used in the foundation system of Richensia Building at Youido, Seoul is introduced and is carried out analyzing the results of field tests such as plate load tests, large plate load test, pile load test, and piled raft load test.

  • Simulation methods using EMTP to analyze power transformer transient characteristics and their interesting results are presented in this paper. Because of the transformer saturation including initial inrush, the conventional current differential relay with harmonic restraint module does not provide a clear distinction between internal faults and other conditions. Providing the bases to develop a new relaying concept for power transformer protection, transformer nonlinear transient characteristics are analyzed.

  • In this paper, a low power and high speed flash Analog-to-Digital Converter using current-mode concept is proposed. Current-mode approach offers a number of advantages over conventional voltage-mode approach, such as lower power consumption small chip area improved accuracy etc. Rescently this concept was applied to algorithmic A/D Converter. But, its conversion speed is limited to medium speed. Consequently this converter is not applicable to the high speed signal processing system. This ADC is fabricated in 1.2um double metal CMOS standard process. This ADC's conversion time is measured to be 7MHz, and power consumption is 2.0mW, and differential nonlinearity is less than 1.14LSB and total harmonic distortion is -50dB. The active area of analog chip is about 350 x 550u$m^2$. The proposed ADC seems suitable for a single chip design of digital signal processing system required high conversion speed, high resolution small chip area and low power consumption.
