Experimental examination of noise generation from exterior of the HSR-350x (한국형고속열차의 외부 발생 소음특성 규명을 위한 시험)

  • Aerodynamically generated noise is significant when the train speed exceeds 250km/h. Experiments were performed in order to investigate the characteristics of aerodynamic noise sources generated from exterior of the HSR-350x, especially from the inter-coach spacing. Measurements of both the inside and outside of the cabin are carried out to investigate the characteristics of the noise. Effect of the size of the gap has been investigated through an wind tunnel test and it has been found that the low frequency noise is strongly dependent on the size of gap. Also performed is an array measurement to locate different noise sources from the high-speed train. Spectral characteristics of exterior noise sources have been examined through these experiments.

Simulations of the Lunar Exosphere: Effects of Multiple Sodium Sources on Coma and Tail

  • Since there are two-different observational constraints for the lunar exosphere data, it is interesting to find the best exospheric model that can account for the observed characteristics of the lunar coma and tail simultaneously (Lee & Kim, 2017).The characteristics of the lunar exosphere can be constrained by comparing simulated models with observational data of the coma and tail. In this work, considering effects of triple sodium sources (two dayside sources: a low- and a high-velocity component; and an Isotropic source component), we present time-dependent simulations showing initial conditions around the lunar coma and the final stage of the lunar tail. Based on an updated 3-D lunar exosphere model (Lee & Kim, 2017), we are presenting the simulated images of the lunar sodium coma and its correlation with lunar tail's physical parameters.

  • The convection of water is investigated in the vicinity of its density maximum temperature (277 K) in an inclined square cavity in the presence of heat sources. Numerical investigations are carried out by maintaining one of the vertical walls uniformly at 273 K and varying the other wall between temperatures 275 K and 285 K at different inclinations angles. The isotherms, streamlines and velocity profiles reveal the possible existence of multicellular fluid motions, and bidirectional velocity distributions. These fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics are significantly modified by the cavity inclination in the presence of heat sources.

  • In this paper, neural networks is studied to apply as a PD source classification in XLPE power cable specimen. Two learning schemes are used to classification; BP(Back propagation algorithm), SOM(self organized map - kohonen network). As a PD source, using treeing discharge sources in the specimen, three defected models are made. And these data making use of a computer-aided discharge analyser, statistical and other discharge parameters is calculated to discrimination between different models of discharge sources. And a]so these distribution characteristics are applied to classify PD sources by two scheme of the neural networks. In conclusion, recognition efficiency of BP is superior to SOM.

Sources of Resistance to Bacterial Wilt Found in Vietnam Collections of Pepper (Capsicum annuum) and Their Nuclear Fertility Restorer Genotypes for Cytoplasmic Male Sterility

  • Eleven hot pepper accessions collected in Vietnam showed stable resistance to bacterial wilt as well-known resistance sources, MC4 and MC5, in repeated inoculation tests with different Ralstonia solanacearum isolates conducted from 2004 to 2010. Seven of these accessions (specifically KC981, KC1006, KC1021, KC1027, KC1045, KC1050, and KC1055) resulted in stable male sterile F1 plants in the crosses with a cytoplasmically male sterile (CMS) Chilseong (CMS-A, Srfrf ), and therefore, they were maintainers (CMS-B) with a genotype of Nrfrf. The rest (KC980, KC995, KC999, and KC1009) produced stable male fertile F1 plants in the crosses, and therefore, were restorers (CMS-C) with a genotype of N(S)RfRf. Therefore, the maintainer and restorer sources of resistance may be used in preference in breeding maternal (CMS and their maintainers) and paternal parents (restorers) for resistance to bacterial wilt, respectively, in the hybrid breeding system utilizing cytoplasmic male sterility.

  • In this paper, several simulated devices were constructed for determining components of organic vapors emitting from decorative materials, daily use chemicals and from common behavior of human beings, such as smoking and cooking. The VOCs were preconcentrated on activated carbon and then desorbed by carbon disulphide. The results were obtained by GC/MS analysis and computer searching. It can be concluded that the categories of the sources and the components of organic vapors in indoor air are very complicated, and different sources of VOCs in indoor air have their own emission characteristics.

  • The matching process is not simple, since the identified features from different sources do not always match in their location, extent, and description. We present a new approach to matching GIS features from disparate sources. A graph theoretic approach is used to model the geographic context and to determine the matching features from multiple sources.

Phase Changes of Vanadium Oxide Thin Films (산화 바나듐 박막의 상변화)

  • Various vanadium-oxide thin films were deposited by e-beam and thermal evaporation of V2O5, V2O3, and VO2 powders. Films with thickness of $2000\AA$ were subjected to annealing at $300^{\circ}C$~$450^{\circ}C$ in N2 atmosphere for the crystallization and desification purposes. For the films deposited from V2O5 and VO2 sources, sources, Magneli (VnO2n-1$ 4\leq$ $n\leq$ 8) and VO2 phase appeared at $300^{\circ}C$, respectively, but VO2 phase also transformed into Magneli phase at $450^{\circ}C$ by severe reduction. On the contrary, VO2/VO mixed phases resulted from congruent evaporation of V2O3 unchanged after the same annealing treatment due to the balanced reduction and oxidation of VO2 and VO whcih have different equilibrium O2 pressures. It is suggested that the annealing in the controlled oxidation atmosphere or the deposition using mixed oxide sources are necessary to get the film containing VO2 phase.

Quantitative Source Estimation of Particulate Matters in Pusan Area Using the Target Transformation Factor Analysis (Target Transformation Factor Analysis를 이용한 부산시 분진오염원의 양적 추정)

  • The purpose of the study was to identify sources of particulate matters statistically and to estimate the mass contribution quantitatively in the Pusan metropolitan area. Then, the study has used the TTFA (target transformation factor analysis) model, a receptor model, to apportion aerosol mass with the raw data of 106 ambient samples characterized by 24 heavy metal variables. The TTFA was extensively applied to generate source profiles and their aerosol mass contributions. Though a couple of sources were not identified, four to seven sources were able to be extracted at 3 different sites (Jang Rim-Dong, Kwang Bok-Dong, and Kwang An-Dong) in Pusan area and finally mass conributions could be calculated.

Utilization of Food Sources Before and After the Tsunami in Nuttallia olivacea at Gamo Lagoon, Japan

  • This study was conducted June 2011 at Gamo Lagoon, after tsunami of March 2011, to estimate food sources and utilization. The results show that the tsunami affected the sediment properties by changing the physical environmental alterations. The fatty acids of the gut content of Nuttallia olivacea mostly comprised the same organic matter found in the sediment. Fatty acids in the tissues showed mainly diatoms, bacteria, and dinoflagellates. That is, most of the food sources (i.e., diatoms, bacteria, dinoflagellates, macroalgae, and terrestrial organic matter) probably pass through the digestive system unharmed; however, terrestrial organic matter, which is refractory to biochemical degradation, indicated a different assimilation trend between the gut content and the tissue. This result suggests that input of labile organic matter from the sediment may control selective metabolism in N. olivacea. From these results, although the physical environment of sediment characteristics by tsunami changed, the food utilization of N. olivacea suggested a better assimilation of selected components from the gut content, irrespective of physical alteration.
