  • Korean stops are currently undergoing a tonogenetic sound change, as found in the Seoul dialect in which a merged VOT of aspirated and lax stops induces F0 to be the primary cue for distinguishing the two stops and the lax stops have lower F0 than the aspirated stops. In tonal languages, low tone is produced with a breathy voice. This study investigated whether there are changes in voice quality with respect to the tonogenetic sound change of Korean stops. Two age groups speaking the Seoul dialect participated in this study: five females and six males born in the 1940s and 1950s and nine females and eight males born in the 1980s and 1990s. This study replicated previous findings of VOT and F0 and further examined H1-H2, H1-A1, and H1-A2 to see how they correlate with the sound change. In the older and younger generations, H1-H2, H1-A1, and H1-A2 were significantly lower after the tense stops than after the aspirated and lax stops, but they were not significantly different after the aspirated and lax stops. However, the younger females exhibited some different results for H1-H2 and H1-A2 than the older generation. In the younger females, the H1-H2 mean was higher after the aspirated stops than it was after the lax stops at the vowel onset, and the H1-H2 difference increased at the vowel midpoint. Although there was an inter-speaker variation in the results of H1-H2 and H1-A1, analyses of individual speakers showed that the H1-H2 and H1-A1 were higher after the lax stops than after the aspirated stops in the younger female speakers. These results indicate that lax stops tend to be breathier than aspirated stops in the younger female speakers. They also indicate that changes in voice quality are on Korean stops with tonal sound change, but are still developing.

  • In a recent study, it was observed that the combustion gas entering the post chamber of a hybrid rocket contains vortices with very small size and high frequency characteristics. In addition, it was observed that small vortices collided with the nozzle wall to create a counter-flow, resulting in additional combustion with ignition delay. This study investigated the physical relationship between ignition delay induced by the counter-flow and the formation of beating pressure. To do this, a newly modified model was proposed by including ignition delay in the existing energy kicked oscillator model proposed by Culick. Numerical results show that the ignition delay is an important factor in determining the occurrence of the combustion pressure beats through the periodic formation of thermoacoustic coupling. In addition, when the ignition delay was reduced by increasing the post chamber length, the phase difference between the energy kick and the pressure generation was increased, the periodic pressure beats did not occur at all.

  • In this study, physics based K-DRUM(K-water Distributed RUnoff Model) using GIS spatial hydrologic data as input data was developed to account for the temperature variation according to the altitude change considering snow melt and cover. The model was applied for Pakistan Kunhar River Basin($2,500km^2$) to calculate long-term discharge considering snow melt and cover. Time series analysis of the temperature and rainfall data reveals that temperature and rainfall of the river basin differs significantly according to altitude change compared to domestic basin. Thus, applying temperature and altitude lapse rate during generate input data generation. As a result, calculated discharge shows good agreement with observed ones considering snow melt and accumulation characteristic which has the difference of 4,000 meter elevation above sea level. In addition, the simulated discharge strongly showed snow melting effect associated with temperature rise during the summer season.

  • The third generation cellular system requires the seamless macro/micro mobility support. Mobile IP provides a simple and scalable macro mobility solution but lacks the support for fast handoff control in micro-domain. However, A lot of micro-mobility protocols have been proposed to complement the Mobile IP capability by providing the fast, seamless, and local handoff control. Cellular If also provides the seamless mobility support in limited geographical area. But semi-soft handoff mechanism of Cellular IP produces the packet loss and the duplication problem due to the difference of propagation delay between the new path and the old path. In this paper, we present an efficient handoff mechanism in micro-domain. The proposed handoff mechanism uses the SCD (Suitable Cross Delay) in order to minimize the packet loss and the duplication problem during the handoff. Also, the proposed mechanism is verified by the performance evaluation through the NS-2 Simulation.

  • World's leading countries are developing next generation digital broadcasting system specifications to support UHDTV (ultra-high definition television) contents and other various services. In order to maximize the transmission capacity by using the bandwidth efficiently, most broadcasting systems adopt MIMO-OFDM. In distributed-MIMO systems, multiple transmit antennas are spatially separated and therefore result in multiple timing offsets. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a technique using a null symbol to detect each individual signal from distributed transmit antennas. By inserting null symbols before preambles, the receiver can distinguish the signals between each transmit antennas and perform frame synchronization. When the reception time difference is shorter than 500 samples, the proposed method outperforms the conventional method.

  • This paper proposes a modified jointly-blue noise mask (MJBNM) method using the S-CIELAB color measure as digital color halftoning method. Based on an investigation of the relation between the pattern visibility and the chromatic error, of a blue noise pattern, a halftoning method is proposed that reduces the chromatic error, while preserving a high quality blue noise pattern. Accordingly, to reduce the chrominance error, the low-pass filtered error and S-CIELAB chrominance error are both considered during the mask generation procedure and calculated for single and combined patterns. Using the calculated low-pass filtered error, the patterns are then updated by either adding or removing dots from the multiple binary patterns. Finally, the pattern exhibiting the lower S-CIELAB chrominance error is selected. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can produce a visually pleasing half toned image with a lower chrominance error than the JBNM method.

  • In this paper, we consider a two-agent single-machine scheduling problem with exponential job-dependent position-based learning effects. The objective is to minimize the total weighted completion time of one agent with the restriction that the makespan of the other agent cannot exceed an upper bound. First, we propose a branch-and-bound algorithm by developing some dominance /feasibility properties and a lower bound to find an optimal solution. Second, we design an efficient simulated annealing (SA) algorithm to search a near optimal solution by considering six different SAs to generate initial solutions. We show the performance superiority of the suggested SA using a numerical experiment. Specifically, we verify that there is no significant difference in the performance of %errors between different considered SAs using the paired t-test. Furthermore, we testify that random generation method is better than the others for agent A, whereas the initial solution method for agent B did not affect the performance of %errors.

  • Object tracking in a real time image is one of Interesting subjects in computer vision and many practical application fields past couple of years. But sometimes existing systems cannot find object by recognize background noise as object. This paper proposes a method of object detection and tracking using adaptive background image in real time. To detect object which does not influenced by illumination and remove noise in background image, this system generates adaptive background image by real time background image updating. This system detects object using the difference between background image and input image from camera. After setting up MBR(minimum bounding rectangle) using the internal point of detected object, the system tracks object through this MBR. In addition, this paper evaluates the test result about performance of proposed method as compared with existing tracking algorithm.

  • With the rapid development of the Internet of Things(IoT) technology recently, multi-access edge computing(MEC) is emerged as a next-generation technology for real-time and high-performance services. High mobility of users between MECs with limited service areas is considered one of the issues in the MEC environment. In this paper, we consider a vehicle edge computing(VEC) environment which has a high mobility, and propose a task migration algorithm to decide whether or not to migrate and where to migrate using DQN, as a reinforcement learning method. The objective of the proposed algorithm is to improve the system throughput while satisfying QoS(Quality of Service) requirements by minimizing the difference between queueing delays in vehicle edge computing servers(VECSs). The results show that compared to other algorithms, the proposed algorithm achieves approximately 14-49% better QoS satisfaction and approximately 14-38% lower service blocking rate.

  • Two near-isogenic lines with dark and pale green leaves, derived from the F$\_$7/ generation of wxl26 cross were compared on photosynthetic capacity, growth parameters, grain yield and yield-related characters. Dark green-leaved lines contained much greater content of chlorophyll a and b than pale green-leaved ones, but chlorophyll a to b ratio showed no difference between them. The photosynthetic nte per unit leaf area was higher in dark green-leaved lines than in pale green-leaved ones in the flag leaves at heading stage, but that per unit chlorophyll content showed reversed result. The crop growth rate from transplanting to heading was consistantly higher in the dark green-leaved lines, resulting from their greater net assimilation rate. Dark green-leaved lines produced greater number of panicles and spikelets per hill, out yielding pale green-leaved lines, but ripened grain ratio and 1000-grain weight showed no differences between those lines.
