  • Diethanolamine Dithiocarbamate containing OH groups which gave water-soluble [Pt(dtc)$_{2}$] (diethanolamine dithiocarbamate) were synthesized from the reaction of CS$_{2}$ with diethanolamine. The complex has been characterized by elemental analysis, electrical conductivity, and spectroscopic results. Diethanolamine dithiocarbamate is effective as rescue and inhibition of cis-[$Pt(NH_{3})_{2}Cl_{2}$] nephrotoxicity in rats. It is suggested that diethanolamine dithiocarbamare removes platinum(II) complex coordinated to -SH groups of protein of kidney tubule cells.

  • The kinetics of the reaction of methyl mercaptan into aqueous diethanolamine were studied over a range in temperature ($20^\~60{\circ}C$) and amine concentrations (0-40 $wt\%$) using a wetted-sphere absorber. The physicochemical properties needed to interpret the data are the solubility and diffusivity of methyl mercaptan in the aqueous diethanolamine solution. The density and the viscosity were obtained and correlated in the experimental range. The Wilke Chang equation was applied to estimate the diffusion coefficient. The enhancement factor was found to be high temperature is below than low temperature. It means the absorption rate with chemical reaction is lower than the physical absorption rate.

  • Diethanolamine dithiocarbamate is known to react with dichlorobis(ethylenediamine)cohalt(Ⅲ) chloride to form [Co(dtc)3](dtc=diethanolamine dithiocarbamate) in which two sulfur atoms of the dithiocarbamate are bound to cobalt. The complex is moderately soluble in acetone, but sparingly soluble in carbon disulfide. Kinetics and mechanisms of the reaction of dichlorobis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(Ⅲ) chloride with diethanolamine dithiocarbamate have been studied in aqueous solution. Activation parameters have been calculated from the kinetic data for the reaction and from these results a possible mechanism for the reaction has been proposed.

  • Semi-solid poly(ortho esters) (POE) were prepared to provide bioerodible carriers for sustained drug delivery systems of nifedipine in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. As the POE has viscous behavior at room temperature, a significant advantage of this polymer is that it can be injected without any surgical intervention. The POE was synthesized by a transesterification reaction between 1,2,6-hexanetriol and trimethyl orthoacetate and the nifedipine release from POE was studied in vitro. The release rate of nifedipine decreased with increasing the amount of nifedipine and the diethanolamine dispersed in the polymer. But the excess amounts, above 3%, of diethanolamine retarded the release of nifedipine. In vivo biocompatibility studies were carried out in rats with nifedipine loaded POE. Histopathological analysis showed that nifedipine loaded POE implants were well-tolerated by rats when used subcutaneously. In case of the rats implanted POE containing diethanolamine, tissue necrosis and inflammation were occured. Pharmacokinetic studies of nifedipine loaded POE implants were carried out in rabbits. In all cases, plasma concentrations of nifedipine were maintained over 15 ng/ml for at least 360 hours and biological half $life(t_{1/2})$ and mean residence time(MRT) were increased by addition of diethanolamine.

  • The solubility of H2S is an important parameter for modeling H2S absorption. Since the direct measurement of H2S solubility in aqueous amine solutions is impossible, this work initially attempted to develop an H2S analogy method, however, this was unsuccessful. Consequently, H2S solubilities were measured in aqueous amines which were completely protonated with HCI over a temperature range of 25-60℃. The solvents investigated in this work included 0-50% aqueous solutions of methyldiethanolamine and diethanolamine. Thereafter, a new empirical correlation was developed that can predict Henry's constant for H2S using only the solubility of H2S in water and t도 molecular weight of the aqueous solvent.

  • PbTiO3 thin films were prepared by sol-gel spin coating method using metal alkoxide and diethanolamine (DEA). The precipitation of the PbTiO3 sol occurred at pH 7.3 with HNO3 addition, regardless of the amount of DEA. The gelation time of the PbTiO3 sol was reduced with increasing amount of HNO3 and/or water. When the PbTiO3 films prepared by 0.2 molar coating solution were annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, dense and single phase perovskite films were obtained. Dielectric constant and loss tangent of the film were 239 and 0.01 at 1 kHz, respectively.

  • The transesterification reaction between diethanolamine and dimethylphthalate was kinetically investigated in the presence of various metal acetate catalysts at $130^{\circ}C$. The reaction was followed by the measurement of distilled methanol from the reaction vessel. The transesterification was found to obey first-order kinetics with respect to the concentration of diethanolamine and dimethylphthalate and catalyst, respectively. The reactivities has highest value where the electronegativity and instability constand (Kij) values for the metal acetate catalysts are about 1.6.

  • The transesterification reaction between diethanolamine and methyl methacrylate was kinetically investigated in the presence of various metal acetate catalysts at $120^{\circ}C$. The amount of reacted methyl methacrylate was measured by gas chromatography and liquid chromatography, and the reaction rate also measured from the amount of reaction products and reactants under each catalyst. The transesterification reaction was carried out in the first order with respect to the concentration of diethanolamine and methyl methacrylate, respectively. The over-all order is 2nd. The apparent rate constant was found to obey first-order kinetics with respect to the concentration of catalyst. The maximum reaction rate was appeared at the range of 1.4 to 1.6 of electronegativity of metal ions and instability constant of metal acetates.

  • Physical and chemical properties of thexylboronic acid and its derivatives such as thexylboroxine and ethylene glycol or diethanolamine thexylboronic ester have been studied. Thexylboronic acid can be extracted from an organic solution with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution as an “te”complex. It is readily converted into thexylboroxine in the presence of anhydrous magnesium sulfate in pentane. It reacts with simple alcohols only slowly; however, it reacts readily with excess diethanolamine in the presence of anhydrous magnesium sulfate to give the corresponding ester.
