The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of exercise training and oak tree wood vinegar ingestion on the blood lipids and antioxidant activities of rats. The subjects were 28 Sprague Dawley male rats, and they were assigned into four groups (n=7, respectively): the control group (CON), the exercise group (EXE), the vinegar ingestion group (VIN), and the vinegar ingestion and exercise training group (VINEXE). The diet was based on high fat and oral administration of oak tree wood vinegar. The rats that were not given oak tree wood vinegar were given the same amount of distilled water orally in order to maintain the same level of stress. They were exercise trained on motor-driven treadmills during a four-week session. Weight changes in the VINEXE were significantly inhibited in the later period of exercise, when compared to the CON (p<0.05). Fat increase was significantly suppressed in VIN and EXE (p<0.05), and a synergistic effect was discovered in the VINEXE (p<0.05). Glucose and ammonia levels were significantly reduced in the EXE, VIN, and VINEXE compared to the CON (p<0.05). In blood lipids, TC and LDL-C were significantly enhanced in the EXE, VIN, and VINEXE compared to the CON (p<0.05), while HDL-C was significantly improved in the EXE and VINEXE (p<0.05). Liver MDA contents showed significant changes in each group (p<0.05), and SOD activities were significantly enhanced in the VIN and the VINEXE when compared to other groups (p<0.05). Therefore, oak tree wood vinegar ingestion with exercise training for four weeks may result in inhibition of weight gain, improvement of blood lipids, and inhibition of lipid peroxidation, contributing to health promotion.
This study was conducted to investigate the interaction of aflatoxin B$_1$($AFB_1$) and vitamin D$_3$($VD_3$) in broiler chicks. The 336 broiler chicks(Hubbard line) of equally mixed sex were allocated to triplicate 8(2$\times$4 factorial) treatment groups. The 0 or 1ppm of AFB$_1$and 0, 500, 1,000 or 1,500IU/kg of VD$_3$ were supplemented to the basal diet Fourteen broilers of equally mixed sex were allocated to each replica and 24 groups were arranged in a randomized block design After 3 weeks of feeding the metatarsus were collected from the right and left legs of 4 chicks (2 for each sex) per group. The bone ash and minerals were measured. 1. In respect to the fresh weight of metatarsus bone no significant difference was found between 0 and 1ppm $AFB_1$ treatments, however, decreasing trend was recognized when fed increasing level of $VD_3$(P<.01). 2. The ash content in non-fat dry metatarsus bone decreased when fed 1ppm $AFB_1$(P<.01). However, that increased according to the increasing amount of $VD_3$(P<.01). Although there was no interaction between $AFB_1$ and $VD_3$ it was shown that the 1500IU/kg of $VD_3$ was neccessary to cover the decrease in ash content of metatarsus. when fed 1ppm of $AFB_1$. 3. The Ca contents in metatarsus were not influenced by feeding $AFB_1$ but an increasing trend was verified by feeding increasing levels of $VD_3$(P<.05). 4. The P content decreased as $AFB_1$ was fed(P<.01), while no response was found when fed'different levels of $VD_3$ 5. The Cu content decreased when fed $AFB_1$(P<.05). 6. The Na, Mg, K, Zn, Fe and Mn contents were not affected by feeding $AFB_1$ and /or $VD_3$.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary Vita2000 on growth performances and immune response in broiler chickens. One-day-old male chicks were fed diets containing 0, 0.5 and 1% Vita2000 (with or without antibiotics) for 5 wks. There were no significant differences in daily weight gain among the treatments, but feed intake in 1% Vita2000 groups (T3 and T4) were significantly lower than control (P<0.05). The relative abdominal fat weight and the level of crude fat in leg meat on groups fed diets containing 1% Vita2000 (T3 and T4) were significantly decreased as compared to those of control (P<0.05). The content of cholesterol in leg meat was not affect by dietary treatment. The intestinal total microbes, Coli form, Lactic acid bacteria and Salmonella spp. from bird fed 1% Vita2000 diets was significantly reduced compared to those of control. The production of IB antibody in chicks fed diet containing 0.5% Vita2000 was significantly higher than that of control groups. The overall results indicate that dietary Vita2000 may be a valuable alternative to antibiotics for optimizing growth performances, particularly for reducing the abdominal fat of broiler chicks.

This study was conducted to compare the effect of feeding molting and fasting molting on the performance, egg quality, and visceral organs in laying hens for animal welfare. Eighty one 62-wk-old White Leghorn hens that egg production was over 80% and average weight was $1.6{\pm}0.3\;kg$ were used in this study. Treatments were control (non-molt treatment), feeding molt treatment, and fasting molt treatment. The three treatments were administered to three replicate group of nine hens wherein each group. All treatment groups were fed the basal diet (CP 15%, ME 2,700 kal/kg) for two weeks as the adaptation period. Induced molt diets contains low CP (6.7%) and low energy (2,200 kal/kg). Test periods were 14 days for feeding molting and 10 days for fasting molting. Egg production decreased to be 0% at 10 days of feeding molting treatment, but at 2 or 3 days of fasting molting treatment. Egg production restarted after 19 days ending molt at feeding molting treatment, while after 24 days at fasting molting treatment. On the egg quality was improved at molting treatments (p<0.05) except egg yolk. Egg shell tissue was crowded at molting treatment to compare to control. Liver weights, heart weight, and oviduct weight of laying hens decreased at molting treatments (p<0.05). Finally, feeding molting might could be replaced fasting molting on the welfare and further studies were needed about molting program.
This work was carried out to assess the effect of microbial phytase (MP) on the performance, retention and excretion of phosphorus, and nutrients availability in broiler chicks. Two hundred and sixteen one day old Ross strains broiler chicks were used to investigate on performance for 5 weeks (earlier $(0{\sim}2wk)$, finisher $(3{\sim}5wk)$) and were divided 3 treatments, three cages per treatment and 12 birds per cage. Treatments are P0 (basal diet), P1 (microbial phytase 300 FTU/kg), and P2 (microbial phytase 600 FTU/kg). After 5 weeks, three diets containing 0, 300, 600 FTU/kg of microbial phytase were fed to 5-wk-old broilers to assess the digestibility. Twenty seven broilers were divided into 3 treatments (9 birds per treatment) to investigate on the absorption and retention of phosphorus and nutrient digestibility. Body weight gain and feed efficiency were highly significant at P1 and P2 treatments compared to those of P0 (P<0.05), however, feed intake was no significant difference among all treatments (P>0.05). The excretion of phosphorus decreased in P1 and P2 compared to P0 (P<0.05). The digestibility of nutrients and amino acid was high in P1 and P2 treatments compared to P0 (P<0.05). Ileal digestibility was lower about $1{\sim}2%$ than feces digestibility (P>0.05). Finally, microbial phytase influenced on the performance, the retention and excretion of phosphorus and ileal and feces digestibility in broilers.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of restricted feeding to laying performance and egg quality in brown layers. A total of 1,080 brown layer chicks were divided into three treatments; conventional feeding (ad libitum) and two restricted feedings (80% of conventional diet) for 70 weeks. One of restricted feeding started from six to eighteen weeks of age, and the other started from twelve to eighteen weeks of age. Diets were formulated by NRC (1994) recommendation. Overall laying performance and feed intake were the highest in $6{\sim}18 wk$ restricted group. But there was no significant difference among treatment group (P>0.05). Feed intake was higher in $6{\sim}18 wk$ restricted group during maximum production (P<0.05), but there was no difference between treatments after the peak. Egg quality tended to decreased by aging, but there was no significant difference among the treatments (P>0.05). The result of present study indicated that restricted feeding in rearing period of layers is beneficial to improve egg productivity and to reduce feed cost.
This study was conducted to investigate factors affecting the bone density of university students in the Seoul area. Data for food habits, and dietary and health-related behavior was obtained by self-administered questionnaires. BQI (bone quality index) of the subjects was measured by a Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS). The results are summarized as follows. The average height, weight, BMI and osteopenia percentage were 175.4cm, 69.3kg, 22.5 and 15.6% for male students, and 161.5cm, 55.9kg, 21.7 and 34.1%, for female students, respectively. The mean BQI of the subjects was 110.25 (range 60.7 ~ 176.8) in male students and 90.64 (range 52.9 ~ 137.5) in female students. Height and weight were significantly related with BQI in the female group but the relationship with BMI was not significantly related with bone density in either group. BQI was positively affected by nutrition supplement in the male student group. One-side eating, diet, and intake of milk and instant food were not significantly related with BQI in males or females. The results of this study revealed that desirable food habits, dietary behavior and health-related lifestyle may have a beneficial effect on bone density. There should be established a practically and systematically organized nutritional education on optimum body weight, good eating habits, weight bearing exercise and intakes of good quality nutrient for higher bone density level.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of temperatures, 24"C, 28$^{\circ}$C and 32"C,and food sources on pupal development, adult longevity and oviposition of tobacco cutworm, Spodopteralitura Fabricius. Percent pupation of S. litura was became higher at higher temperature from 23% to 88%.And its percent pupation was highest on soybean leaf (SL), followed by perilla leaf (PL), sweet potato leaf(SPL) and artificial diet (AD). Pupal weight ranged from 0.28g on SPL to 0.40 g on PL and was tended toheavier with decreasing temperature. The mean pupal duration was 14, 10 and 7 days at 24"C, 28$^{\circ}$C and32"C, respectively. Percent emergence was in range of 21% to 89% with higher percent emergence as thetemperature increased and both 28$^{\circ}$C and 24$^{\circ}$C was highest on SL, followed by PL, SPL and AD, but at24$^{\circ}$C the order was SPL, PL, SL and then AD. Preoviposition duration was 3.2 days at 24"C, 2.8 days at28$^{\circ}$C and 2.5 days at 32$^{\circ}$C. Adult longevity became shorter as the temperature increased from 6.4 to 3.9days. Male longevity was longer than that of female. Adults lived longest when they were reared on PL,followed by SL, SPL and AD. Total number of eggs laid per female varied from 803 to 1,441 regardlessof the treatments, but those were significantly more on natural foods than on AD. Number of eggs per eggmass was 97.4 at 24$^{\circ}$C 155.8 at 28$^{\circ}$C and 104.7 at 32$^{\circ}$C. Number of egg mass was 12.0, 6.7 and 11.3 at24"C, 28$^{\circ}$C and 32"C, respectively.4"C, 28$^{\circ}$C and 32"C, respectively.

This study was performed to elucidate the biochemical mechanism of metabolism on reducing blood lipid, by oral administration of egg yolk in rats. A total of 36 Sprague Dawley male rats were randomized into four treatment groups, according to a randomized block design. Each group was further divided into three repeat cages, with each repeat cage comprising of 3 rats. The animals were orally administered with egg yolk once a day, while feeding the same purified pellet diet for 6 weeks. The four treatment groups were: C(control, saline 1.0 g), T1(pork belly oil 1.0 g), T2(egg yolk 1.0 g), T3(pork belly oil 1.0 g and egg yolk 1.0 g alternating every week). The measured parameters in each group are listed as follows in the order of highest to the lowest: daily average gain of body weight(T1>T3>T2>C); blood triglyceride and total cholesterol(T1>C>T3>T2) HDL-C (T2>C>T3>T1); and LDL-C (T1>T3>C>T2). AST and ALT, which are the index of liver function, were the highest in T1 but was lowest in T2. The weights of the liver, spleen, and kidney, except for the abdominal fat, showed no significant difference. The weight of abdominal fat was the highest in T1, but there were no significant difference among C, T2, and T3. The HMG-CoA reductase activity was the highest in T1 followed by T3, C but T2 was lowest. The daily fecal excretions of the total sterol, neutral sterol and acid sterol was highest in T2 but lowest in T1. The results of this study show that the egg consumption reduces the blood lipid through facilitation of fecal excretions of sterols and inhibition of enzyme activity in cholesterol biosynthesis, in the liver of animal and human.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of germinated Ilpum rough rice extract on blood glucose in C57BL/KsJ-db/db mice. The mice were divided into several groups: normal control (NC), diabetic control (DC), those fed with 0.25% germinated Ilpum rough rice extract (DM-0.25%GIRRE), those fed with 0.5% germinated Ilpum roughrice extract (DM-0.5%GIRRE) and those fed with 1% germinated Ilpum rough rice extract (DM-1%GIRRE). After 8 weeks of treatment, body weight, water intake, and diet intake of the DM-1%GIRRE group were significantly lower than the other DM groups. Blood glucose levels of the DM-1%GIRRE group were significantly lower compared to the DC group. Fasting blood glucose HbA1c level and total glucose tolerance test were significantly lower in the DM-1%GIRRE groups compared to the DC group. There was no significant difference in serum insulin level among each group. Therefore, the results of this study demonstrate that germinated Ilpum rough rice extract alleviates many of the symptoms of diabetes in genetically obese mice and may offer a possibility as a therapeutic supplement for the normalization of blood glucose levels in humans with hyperglycemia. It may also have beneficial effects in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
