A Study on Application of Electric Propulsion System using AFE Rectifier for Small Coastal Vessels

  • The small coastal vessel registered in Korea, small coastal vessels with a gross tonnage of 10 tons or less account for 94.6 % and among them, aged vessels over 16 years age indicate 40.6 %. In order to reduce GHG emissions from small coast vessels, discussions are underway to replace aging ships' propulsion units with eco - friendly propulsion facilities, and the electric propulsion ship is emerging as one of the measures. The electric propulsion system using the DFE rectifier, which was applied in the conventional large commercial vessel, was effective in reducing the harmonics and improving the DC output voltage of the DC link stage, but it occupied a large volume and caused an increase in the overall system price. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an electric propulsion system using AFE rectifier with a small volume of system that can be applied to a small coastal vessel. In order to analyze the effectiveness of the overall system, the load profile was applied to obtain accurate and rapid speed tracking performance of the propulsion motor affected by the speed load. In addition, the power factor and total harmonic distortion factor of the voltage and current on the improved power output side are derived through simulation.

전기충전소의 경제적 운영을 위한 독립발전 시스템 설계 (Independent Generation System Design for the Economic Management of Electrical Charging Stations)

  • This paper presents the optimal energy generation systems for economical EVs(Electric Vehicles) charging stations located in an island area. The system includes grid electricity, diesel generator and renewable energy sources of wind turbines and PV(Photovoltaic) panels. The independent generation system is designed with data resources such as annual average wind speed, solar radiation and the grid electricity price by calculating system cost under different structures. This sensitive analysis on the varying data resources allows for the configuration of the most economical generation system for charging stations by comparing initial capital, operating cost, NPC(Net Present Cost) and COE(Cost of Energy). Depending on the increase of the grid cost, the NPC variation of the most economical system which includes renewable energy generations and grid electricity can be smaller than those of other generation systems.

  • As the increase of the fuel oil price, the demand for saving of the ship running cost is growing. To meet the needs of the shipowners, the method for low load operation has been developed by engine licenser. As one of low load operation, the turbocharger cut-out system can be utilized flexibly both full and part load operation. It can be possible to optimize fuel consumption at both full and part load operation. Tests by engine licenser with 12K98MC engine have proven that the fuel oil consumption can be reduced approximately 5%. In this paper we will study the application of main engine turbocharger cut-out system onboard a vessel. One of four turbochargers with MAN Diesel & Turbo 12K98MC-C and 12K98ME-C engine is cut out with swing gate valve. The fuel oil consumption is measured during sea trial and engine shop test.

폐열발전 ORC 시스템 적용을 위한 고효율 영구자석형 동기발전기 설계 (Design of High Efficiency Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator for Application of Waste Heat Generation ORC System)

  • 고가의 발전기를 사용하는 발전 방법은 일부 도서의 경우 전력수요 증가로 인한 예비전력 부족과 고비용의 디젤 발전기 운영과 같은 문제점들을 안고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위한 방법으로 폐열을 열원으로 이용하는 ORC시스템 적용을 통하여 발전 설비의 효율을 증가시킬 필요가 있다. 따라서 가격 경쟁력과 고신뢰성의 ORC 발전시스템의 현장 기술이 요구되며 발전기의 최적화 기술의 효과가 크기 때문에 본 연구에서는 2개의 발전기 설계를 수행하여 최적화된 30kW 출력을 갖는 고효율의 발전기를 얻었다. 2개의 설계된 모델들에 대한 모의 데이터 비교 결과 발전기의 12,000rpm 기준에서 SPM factor 46.2%의 경우 약 23.2kW의 출력과 92.1%의 효율을 보였고, SPM factor 44.46%의 경우 발전기의 출력은 27.9kw와 93.6%의 효율을 확인하였다. SPM factor 44.46%를 갖는 개선된 설계모델의 시제품 검증을 위하여 110kW 모터 동력계를 갖는 시제품 시험시스템을 설치하였으며 2,000rpm 기준 정격용량 25kW의 조건에서 92.08% 효율을 얻었으며, 시제품 발전기의 시험결과 발전기 설계의 유효성을 확인하였다.

Corrosion Characteristics of Welding Zone by Types of Repair Welding Filler Metals and Post Weld Heat Treatment

  • Recently, the fuel using in the diesel engines of marine ships has been changed to a low quality of heavy oil because of the steady increase in the price of oil. Therefore, the wear and corrosion in all parts of the engine such as the cylinder liner, piston crown, and spindle and seat ring of exhaust valves has correspondingly increased. The repair welding of a piston crown is a unique method for prolonging its lifetime from an economic point of view. In this case, filler metals with a high corrosion and wear resistance are mainly being used for repair welding. However, often at a job site on a ship, a piston crown is actually welded with mild filler metals. Therefore, in this study, mild filler metals such as CSF350H, E8000B2, and 435 were welded to SS401 steel as the base metal, and the corrosion properties of the weld metals with and without post weld heat treatment were investigated using some electrochemical methods in a 0.1% $H_2SO_4$ solution. The weld metal welded with CSF350H filler metal exhibited the best corrosion resistance among these filler metals, irrespective of the heat treatment. However, the weld metal zones of the E8000B2 and 435 filler metals exhibited better and worse corrosion resistance with the heat treatment, respectively. As a result, it is suggested that in the case of repair welding with CSF350H and 435 filler metals, no heat treatment is advisable, while heat treatment is desirable if E8000B2filler metal is used with repair welding.

배기밸브 보수 용접부의 부식 특성에 관한 전기화학적 연구 (An Electrochemical Study on Corrosion Property of Repair Welding Part for Exhaust Valve)

  • The diesel engine of the merchant ship has been aperated in severe environments more and more, because the temperature of the exhaust gas of a combustion chamber is getting higher and higher with increasing use of heavy oil of law quality, due to the significant increase in the price of oil in recent some years. As a result, the degree of wear and corrosion between exhaust valve and seat ring is more serious compared to other engine parts. Thus the repair welding of exhaust valve and seat ring is a unique method to prolong the life of the exhaust valve, from an economical point of view. In this study, the corrosion property of both weld metal and base metal was investigated using electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, cathodic and anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram, and polarization resistance in 5% H2SO4 solution. The test specimen was a part of an exhaust valve stem being welded as the base metal, using various welding methods. In all cases, the corrosion resistance as well as hardness of the weld metal zone was superior to the base metal. In particular, plasma welding showed relatively good properties for both corrosion resistance and hardness, compared to other welding methods. In the case of DC SMAW (Shielded metal arc welding), corrosion resistance of the weld metal zone was better than that of the base metal, although its hardness was almost same as the base metal.

유채박을 이용한 단판적층재용 접착제의 개발 및 성능평가 (Development of Adhesive Resins Formulated with Rapeseed Flour Hydrolyzates for Laminated Veneer Lumber and Its Performance Evaluation)

  • 목질계 판상재료 생산을 위하여 현재 주로 사용되고 있는 석유화학계 접착제는 원유의 가격 상승과 포름알데히드 방산과 같은 문제로 인해 대체 접착제에 대한 개발 필요성이 오래전부터 대두되었다. 본 연구에서는 석유화학계 접착제를 대체하기 위하여 바이오 디젤 부산물인 유채박의 효소 가수분해를 통해 접착제를 조제하고, 이 접착제를 단판적층재 제조에 적용한 후 물리 및 기계적 특성을 조사하여 유채박의 단판적층재 제조용 접착제 제조를 위한 원료화 가능성을 확인하고자 수행하였다. 먼저 유채박 접착제 조제를 위하여 유채박을 4가지 효소의 조합을 통해 개량한 다음, phenol formaldehyde (PF) prepolymer와 혼합하여 접착제를 제조하고 이를 단판적층재 제조에 사용하였다. 제조된 단판적층재의 평균함수율과 내수성은 모두 KS의 기준을 만족시키는 것으로 나타났으며, 유채박 접착제의 열분석에서 pectinase 가수분해물로 조제한 접착제를 제외하고 페놀수지 접착제와 열경화 특성이 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 단판적층재의 휨강도는 페놀수지 접착제로 제조한 단판적층재보다 높거나 유사한 것으로 나타나 기존 석유화학계 접착제의 대체 접착제로써 가능성을 보여주었다. 추후 접착성능의 향상을 위해 적절한 유채박의 효소가수분해 조건에 대한 연구와 도포성능 개선에 대한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.
