미강유 연료에 의한 전용 디젤기관의 성능 및 비기 배출물에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Performance and Exhaust Emissions of Agricultural Diesel Engines by Use of Rice Bran Oil as a Fuel)

  • The effects of rice bran oil on the characteristics of performance and exhaust emissions have been experimentally examined by a single cylinder four cycle direct injection water-cooled and agricultural diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. The experiments are conducted with light oil blends of rice bran with light oil and rice bran oil as a fuel. The fuel injection timing if fixed to $22^{\circ}$ BTDC regardless of fuel type engine loads and speeds. Any oxygen is not included in light oil while the oxygen contents of 10.7% are included in rice bran oil. The lower calorific value of rice bran oil is less than light oil and the viscosity is very high compared with light oil. In pre-sent study it is found that these major differences of chemical and physical properties control the combustion parameters that affect the performance and exhaust emissions of diesel engines using a rice bran oil as fuels.

  • Motor vehicle exhaust is the major cause to the air contamination in Seoul. It includes many toxic chemicals to human health such as aidehyde, PAHs, benzene, xylene, toluene, benzo[a]pyrene, nickel, arsenic and cadmium in gasoline exhaust and formaldehyde, PAHs, 1,3-butadiene, benzene and particulate matter in diesel exhaust. Some chemicals out of them are classified as a human carcinogen. Many large diesel vehicles such as buses and trucks are drivened frequently in Seoul so that the air in Seoul is seriously contaminated by diesel exhaust, especially particulate matter. The amounts of particulate matter from large diesel vehicles may be estimated to be more than 50% of small dust in Seoul. The particles of particulate matter are coated with many toxic chemicals and some of these are considered as a human carcinogen. The cancer risk has to be throughly managed because the population density of Seoul is very high. Government should list hazardous air pollutants in Seoul, assess the exposure of people to toxic pollutants, especially carcinogens and manage human health risk.

  • The ultrasonic method, which is well known as nondestructive test method, is widely used to evaluate the material damage due to degradation. However, this method is just used for measuring the crack size and the thickness loss of the tube. The purpose of this study is to investigate the application of the ultrasonic technique for the evaluation of marine diesel engine exhaust valve and to suggest the correlation between the ultrasonic characteristics and valve degradation. From the evaluation of the results obtained, the technique of using the ultrasonic property was founds to be a efficient method to degree of marine diesel engine exhaust valve by nondestructive test.

  • The Effects of cooled and hot EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) on the characteristics of smoke and NOx emission have been investigated using a single cylinder, water-cooled, four cycle, DI diesel engine at several loads and speeds. In this study, a manually controlled EGR system was installed on a agricultural diesel engine which was operated at various operating system. And, the effects of hot EGR and cooled EGR on smoke and NOx emission were compared. The results showed that cooled EGR method was more effective than hot EGR method on smoke and NOx emission.

저속 2행정 디젤 기관의 소기 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the scavenging characteristics in slow-speed two-stroke diesel engines)

  • The scavenging characteristics have a great influence on the performance of a diesel engine, especially slow-speed two-stroke diesel engines which are usually used as a marine propulsion power plant, and they are greatly affected by the conditions in the cylinder, intake and exhaust manifolds, and the opening and closing timing of scavenging ports or exhaust valves during the gas exchange process. Besides, there are many other factors to affect the scavenging characteristics and these factors interact each other very complicatedly. Therefore the simulation program of the gas exchange process is very useful to improve and predict the scavenging characteristics, due to the high costs associated with redesign and testing. In this paper it was attenpted to investigate the effect of the variation of the pressure ratio of intake to exhaust manifolds, and the variation of the opening and closing timing of a exhaust valve by using a computational program for a three-zone scavenging model which was developed by authors. The computed results showed that the scavenging efficiency and delivery ratio increased considerably, but the trapping efficiency decreased with increasing of the pressure ratio of intake to exhaust manifolds. The scavenging efficiency, trapping efficiency, and th conditions of the cylinder gases were affected by the opening timing of the exhaust valve, but the delivery ratio by the closing timing.

디젤 하이브리드 차량 개조에 따른 배기 배출물 영향 평가 (Modification of Hybrid Diesel Vehicle and Its Effect on the Exhaust Emissions)

  • The effects of the modification of hybrid vehicle components on diesel exhaust emissions were investigated in this study. We examined the changes in exhaust emissions and the fuel consumption (FC) caused by the modification of generator (alternator) and motors. Exhaust emissions such as black carbon (BC), HC, $NO_X$ and $CO_2$ were measured not only in idle state but also on an actual urban road as well as on a chassis dynamometer. BC, $NO_X$ and HC emissions increased by 95%, 27% and 34% respectively when the generator charged the battery in the idle condition. BC and FC decreased in hybrid mode on the actual urban road partly because the motors were used to assist the diesel engine. In addition, the decreases in exhaust emissions and FC were also evident in the hybrid mode when the vehicle was tested on the chassis dynamometer.

  • The effects of recirculated exhaust gas on the characteristics of fuel economy combustion and exhaust emissions have been experimentally investigated by a four-cylinder four cycle indirect injection water-cooled and marine diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. in order to reduce the soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to intake system of the engine a novel diesel soot removal system with a cylinder-type scrubber which has 6 water injectors(A water injector has 144 nozzles in 1.0 mm diameter) is specially designed and manufactured for the experiment system The experiments in this study are performed at the fixed fuel injection timing of $15.3^{\circ}$ BTDC regardless of experimental conditions, The brake specific fuel consumption rate is slightly fluctuated with EGR in the range of experimental conditions, The maximum value of premixed combustion for the rate of heat release is decreased with EGR at engine load 25% and the ignition is slightly delayed with EGR at engine load 100% NOx emissions are markedly decreased with EGR especially at high loads while soot emissions are increased as the EGR rate rises.

  • The exhaust emissions from diesel vehicle are known to be harmful to human health and environment. Recently, one of the most environment problems is particulate matter. In this study, through the actual exper iment and heat transfer of exhaust pipe in light duty diesel engine equipped with the ceramic filter trap of throttling type, following results are obtained. 1. In case of light duty diesel engine equipped with ceramic filter trap of throttling type, Power and torque of engine were decreased about 5%, compared with the case without trap system. It means that was not so much effect on base engine performance.2. If the length of exhaust pipe when equipping with ceramic filter trap is suitably controlled, the range of regeneration will be expand much more.3. Particulate matter reduction efficiency of ceramic filter trap system was about 70%-80%, so it was proved a good system to reduce particulate matter.In experiment, test was conducted to estimate engine emission in 2,476cc light duty diesel engine which was equipped with ceramic filter trap.

  • Biodiesel (BD) can be effectively used as an alternative fuel in diesel engines. However, BD may affect the performance and exhaust emissions in diesel engines because it has different physical and chemical properties from diesel fuel such as viscosity, compressibility and so on. To investigate the effect of injection timing on the characteristics of engine performance and exhaust emissions with BD in an indirect injection diesel engine, BD derived from soybean oil was applied in this study. The engine was operated at six different injection timings from TDC to BTDC $12^{\circ}CA$ and five loads at various engine speeds. Below BD 30, there's similar trend compared with diesel fuel. But, the best injection timing was $4{\sim}6^{\circ}CA$ retarded compare with diesel fuel using BD 30. When the fuel injection timing was retarded, better results were showed, which may confirm by advantages of BD.

커먼레일 디젤엔진의 흡배기밸브 타이밍 개선을 통한 연비절감에 대한 수치해석적 연구 (A Numerical Analysis for Fuel Consumption by Improvement of Intake/Exhaust Valve Timing in a Common Rail Diesel Engine for a Generator)

  • 본 연구에서 사용되는 발전기용 커먼레일 디젤엔진은 흡 배기 밸브의 작동을 위해 기계적으로 구동되는 캠축을 이용하고 있으며, 차량 운전조건 알맞게 밸브의 개폐시기가 고정되어 있다. 그러나 발전기용 엔진은 회전속도가 일정하고 부분부하에서 운전된다. 따라서, 발전용 커먼레일 디젤엔진의 최적화 설계를 위해 밸브 타이밍의 변화에 따른 디젤연소와 배출가스의 특성을 고찰하여 연비 측면에서 계산하였다. 디젤엔진의 밸브 타이밍은 흡배기 유동을 변화시킴으로서 연소특성에 영향을 주었으며 발전기의 연비 개선이 가능하다고 판단되었다.
