대형디젤기관에 미치는 습윤식 에어 필터의 영향 (An Effect of Wet Type Air Filter in Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine)

  • Diesel engine offers superior fuel consumption than gasoline engine of equivalent capacity. For this reason, diesel engines are widely used in heavy duty transport applications. Specially, it has been many years that exhaust gases from gasoline automobile rather than from diesel is the major object concerned by Korea and other countries, and it is strongly required on the reduction techniques on harmful NOx, Soot, CO, He. Thus, this paper focused on the emission reduction and target for this paper is heavy-duty diesel engine equipped with power filter such as wet type air cleaner. In this paper, the performance, exhaust emissions(CO, THC, NOx, Soot) and noise of heavy-duty diesel engine were measured at maximum load condition and the range of 1,000∼2,200rpm. The smoke was measured at FAS(Free Accel Smoke) test mode.

  • Biodiesel fuel(BDF) which is easily produced from vegetable oils such as soybean oil and rice bran oil can be effectively used as an alternative fuel in diesel engine. However, BDF can affect the performance and emissions in diesel engine because it has different chemical and physical properties from diesel fuel. To investigate the effects of injection timing on the characteristics of performance and emissions with BDF in IDI diesel engine, BDF derived from rice bran oil was considered in this study. The engine was operated at six different injection timings and six loads at a single engine speed of 2000rpm. When the injection timing was retarded, better results were obtained, which may confirm the advantage of BDF. The reduction of NOx and smoke was observed for a 2$^{\circ}$ retarded injection timing without any sacrifice of BSEC.

  • It is a present situation that the control on automobile emission is getting more restrictive and also the regulations for emission are changing greatly up to level of those advanced foreign countries. Specially, it has been many years that exhaust gases from gasoline automobile rather than from diesel is the major object concerned by Korea and other countries, and it is strongly required on the reduction techniques on harmful NOx and PM among those compositions. Thus, this research focused on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and the target for this research is heavy-duty turbo-diesel engine with Cooled EGR. Furthermore, this research has been made efforts to accomplish the regulation on emission for heavy duty diesel engine.

  • A four-stroke four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine can be fitted with various types exhaust system. In this paper, the impacts of exhaust system design on scavenging performance and wave action characteristic during valve overlap are investigated by using one-dimensional gas dynamic code. This work shows that a huge reflected exhaust pressure waves which reaches the exhaust port during valve overlap period is crucial design factor which determines quality and quantity of the fresh charge. Hence pressure wave that reaches the exhaust port of the cylinder during the valve overlap sequence should be weakened for good scavenging performance. This paper describes advantages and disadvantages of the various exhaust systems applied to a turbocharged and intercooled 4-cylinder diesel engine system in terms of scavenging efficiency and engine performance. To verify the computational results, experimental comparison has also performed.

  • Recently, increasing usage of diesel vehicle, many countries try to reduce the pollutant materials by emission regulation standard. Particularly, in our country, the supplement ratio of diesel vehicle is high, and air pollution by particulate matter(PM) is very serious. So, in theoretical study wer analyzed the formation principle of gaseous emission and PM, the characteristics of CVS-75 mode. In experimental study, we tested exhaust gas reduction of emission and PM, the characteristics of CVS-75 mode. In experimental study, we tested exhaust gas reduction of disel oxidation catalyst(DOC) by CVS-75 mode in light duty diesel vehicle. In case of an automobiletest with the 2,956cc diesel engine which DOC was equipped, CVS-75 mode which is similar to driving conditions on the road was chosen as the restrictive mode of light duty diesel automobile in our country. According to the Pt, the reduction rate of exhaust emission was estimated with using 0.1% high sulfur fuel and 0.05% low sulfur fuel.

상용 CRDI 디젤기관에서 바이오디젤유 20% 적용시 내구시험에 따른 배기배출물 특성 (The Characteristics of Exhaust Emissions by Durability Test with Biodiesel Fuel (20%) in a Commercial CRDI Diesel Engine)

  • A CRDI diesel engine used to commercial vehicle was fueled with diesel fuel and 20% biodiesel blended fuel (BDF 20%) and tested at the Seoul-10 mode for 150 hours. Engine dynamometer testing was completed at regularly scheduled intervals to monitor the engine performance and exhaust emissions. To check the engine parts (valve, injector), the engine was inspected after 150 hours running test. It was concluded that there was no unusual deterioration of the engine, or the changes in engine power (below 1.9%), smoke (below 4.1%), NOx (below 3.7%) and durability characteristics in spite of operation of 150 hours run with BDF 20%. The difference of kinetic viscosity for engine oil (before and after durability testing) was below 0.19% at $100^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, the effect of oxygen component in fuel on the exhaust emissions has been investigated for a direct injection diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for the commercial diesel fuel and oxygenated blended fuel which has seven kinds of mixed ratio. And, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NOx emission have been investigated. Ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether(EGBE) contains oxygen component 27% in itself, and it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel of mono-ether group that the smoke emission of EGBE blended fuel is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at higher loads and speeds in a diesel engine. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx was achieved with oxygenated fuel and cooled EGR method.

  • 본 연구에서는 실험적 방법을 통하여 엔진 배기관의 굴곡 형상이 배기 소음에 미치는 영향에 대해서 고찰하였다. 엔진으로는 4기통, 배기량 2164cc의 디이젤 엔진 을 사용하였으며 엔진의 보통 사용 범위인 1200∼3200rpm, 드로틀밸브의 개방도 25∼를 100% 구간에서 실험을 수행하였다. 굴곡부의 형상으로는 대부분의 배기관 굴곡이 원 호 형태임을 고헌하여 원호형의 굴곡관과 관의 꺽임부의 영향을 고찰하기 위한 직각형 굴곡관의 두가지 형태를 택하였따. 각 엔진의 운전 조건에서 굴곡관의 형상 치수를 바꾸어 가며 배기 소음의 음압(sound pressure level, SPL)과 스펙트럼을 얻었으며 이 들을 상호 비교 검토하여 배기관 굴곡 형상의 주요 설계 변수에 의한 배기 소음의 영 향을 고찰하였다.

  • Combustion of diesel engine depends on the mixing of air and evaporating fuel during ignition delay greatly. Variation of air-fuel mixing rate and ignition delay for engine operating condition causes difference of combustion, performance and exhaust emissions. This study is investigated in a turbocharged diesel engine of IDI swirl chamber type. In the results, As injection timing is advanced until $12.6^{\circ}$ BTC, ignition delay decreases. NOx concentration and smoke level in exhaust gas increases for advanced injection timing Ignition delay, combustion period, pressure rise rate and exhaust gas temperature are increased with increasing engine speed. And ignition delay at high load is more decreased than that at low load. Ignition delay and combustion period are decreased with increasing intake pressure. Power increases, temperature and CO, NOx concentration in exhaust gas decreases as intake pressure increases. With increasing load, ignition delay is decreased and combustion period, motoring pressure are increased.

  • It is reported that we are facing the serious environment pollution difficulties such as acid rain, green house effects, etc. The gaseous matter CO, NOx, SOx, VOCs which are regarded as main factors for these current pollutions are mainly emitted from power plants and vehicles. Therefore several leading countries are regulating the related laws strictly, especially exhaust emissions from a Diesel engine without an after treatment device. The Objective of this study is to find out NOx removal characteristics focused on emissions of a Diesel engine using radical at each engine speed and load. It is generated from outer air and put into a mixing chamber in the end of exhaust line. In addition, the optimum temperature condition to activate reaction by radical is experimentally carried out. Concentration of exhaust emissions is analyzed from the gas anlayzer(KaneMay) and FTIR to estimate by-products.
