Characteristics of $(Pb_{1-x}La_x)(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})O_3$ thin films as a function of La content ($(Pb_{1-x}La_x)(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})O_3$ 박막의 La 치환량에 따른 특성)

  • The electrical characteristics associated with crystal structure changes as a function of La content for $(Pb_{1-x}La_x)(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})O_3$ thin films were investigated for applications in memory capacitors. Tetragonality of PLZT films decreased with increasing La content. Thin films with La $\geq$ 20 mol% were found to be cubic. Films with La $\geq$ 12 mol% exhibited broader dielectric peaks compared to those of bulk ceramics and behaved as relaxer ferroelectrics. Tetragonal PLZT film with 12 mol% La had a dielectric constant maximum of 1330 at room temperature and a charge storage density of ${\sim}18{\mu}C/cm^2$ at 5 V. Decrease in coercive field and remnant polarization with increase in La content were resulting from less dipolar response caused by the decreased crystal anisotropy. The leakage current densities $<10^{-8}A/cm^2$ up to 5 V bias voltage were observed for the films with La $\geq$ 14 mol%.

Low Temperature Sintering of $Mg_{3-x}Co_x(VO_4)_2$ Microwave Dielectric Ceramics for LTCC Applications (저온소결 $Mgx_{-3}Cox(VO_4)_2$ 세라믹스의 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • We studied the effect of composition, processing, and sintering temperature on the microwave properties of $Mg_{3-x}Co_x(VO_4)_2$ system which is applicable to LTCC. When $Mg_{3-x}Co_x(VO_4)_2$ was fabricated by solid-state reaction process and sintered at the temperature range of $800\sim910^{\circ}C$, it was found that the optimum composition of x was 2 at which microwave properties of 910$^{\circ}C$-sintered one were as follows: $Q\times f_0\sim55,200GHz$ and $\varepsilon_r\sim10$. When $(MgCo_2)(VO_4)_2$ was fabricated by sol-gel process and sintered at 800$^{\circ}C$, $Q\timesf_0$was 34,400GHz which is much high compared to those fabricated by solid-state reaction process at the same sintering temperature.

  • Effect of heating rate was studied on consolidation of the low-temperature-sinterable PMN-PT-BT powder by varying the heating rate from 5, 10, to $20^{circ}C/min$. Slow rate of $5^{circ}C/min$ showed more homogeneous microstructure than high rate of 10 or $20^{circ}C/min$ due to low PbO (m.p. $886^{circ}C$) evaporation at 850^{circ}C$. It showed sintered density of $7.93 g/cm^{3}$, room temperature dielectric constant of 15300, and dissipation factor of $0.92\%$.

Effects of Sr on the Characteristics of PZT Ceramics Prepared by Hydrothermal Process (수열합성법에 의해 제조된 PZT의 특성에 미치는 Sr의 영향)

  • The sintering and electrical properties of the hydrothermal PSZT powders obtained by substituting 4, 6 and 8mol% Sr for Pb in PZT lattice structure were investigated. The lattice constant and particle size decreased in proportion to a quantity of Sr. The sintering properties of PSZT powders showed $7.754g/cm^3$ of sintered density and $4{\mu}m$ of grain size at sintering temperature of $1250^{\circ}C$. Curie temperature lowered gradually from $363.6^{\circ}C\;to\;319.2^{\circ}C$ and relative dielectric constants increased rapidly by a quantity of Sr. In comparison to PZT, moreover, the quality factor of PSZT was increased more than three times with increase of Sr mole ratio, and piezoelectric constant $(d_{31}\;and\;g_{31})$ was decreased. It was found that dielectric loss of PSZT was decreased by 0.574% which was half of PZT.

The Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties of PZT-PMN Ceramics (PZT-PMN 압전 세라믹의 압전 및 유전 특성)

  • In this paper, the piezoelectric and dielectric properties as a function of x and a in $aPbZr_xTi_{1-x}O_3-(1-a)Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ + ywt%MgO is investigated. As a results, when a is 0.95 and x is 0.505, electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$, permittivity${\varepsilon}_33^T/{\varepsilon}_0$, piezoelectric strain constant$(d_{33})$ and mechanical quality factor$(Q_m)$ are 58 %, 1520, 272 pC/N and 1550, respectively. From XRD analysis, when x is 0.505, it is MPB which present rhombohedral and tetragonal phase in same quantity. Also, From SEM observation, when sintering temperature is $1150^{\circ}C$, grain size is about $2\;{\mu}m$. As a results added MgO dopant in the ternary piezoelectric ceramic, when MgO content is 0.1 wt%, $k_p$ increases to 63[%].

Investigation of Lattice Effects in Perovskites by $O-isotope^{18}$ Exchange

  • In the present study, preliminary experimental results of the change in the properties of perovskite-type oxides caused by the $^{18}O$- exchange have been reported. Two systems were selected for the exchange, (1) $ATiO_3$(A=Ca,Sr,Ba) and (2) manganese perovskite. The dielectric properties of isotope-exchanged $SrTi^{18}O_3$showed a drastic change from a quantum paraelectricity below 3K to ferroelectric-like behavior with a peak at 23K and an enhanced dielectric constant, 35000 at the peak. On the contrary, the $T_c$ for $BaTiO_3$was found to increase by 0.9K. The observed isotope shift of $T_c$ as well as $T_co$ for the manganese perovskites is correlated with the key parameters controlling the lattice such as $Mn^{3+}$ content, average ionic radius of the A-site cation <$r_A$> ad A-site ionic disorder $\sigma^2$.

A Comparison of High Frequency Properties of LTCC Substrate Systems (LTCC 기판 시스템의 고주파 특성 비교)

  • In the measurement of the RF properties, the LTCC substrate must be considered as a system including various conductor patterning processes. In this paper, the LTCC substrate system is compared with a conventional PCB(Printed Circuit Board) substrate such as FR-4, Duroid and Teflon, etc. The microstrip resonator method is employed for the measurement of the RF properties in the range of DC to 20 GHz. Experimental results show that the ring resonator method is suitable for system loss measurement, and the series gap resonator method for dielectric constant measurement. The process of conductor patterning and its effect on the system loss were also studied.

  • The effects of Ba2+, Sr2+, and Ca2+-substitutions for Pb2+ at Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 composition were studied for thier dielictric, piezoelectric, and aging properties. For relative dielectric constants and electromechanical coupling factors, the Ba2+-substituted composition was the highest and the Ca2+-substityed composition was the lowest. In the case of mechanical quality factors, the opposite behavior occurred. Time dependence of frequency for various ion-substituted compositions is similar to that of non-substituted composition. The piezoelectric properties after aging at high temperature was the worse than that after aging at room temperature.

  • In this paper, we investigated the output power, step-up ratio and efficiency properties of piezoelectric transformer with dielectric and piezoelectric characteristics of manufactured ceramics. The piezoelectric transformers with $2.0$\times$10$\times$48[$mm^3$] size were fabricated and its electrical properties were measured. When output power of 6W was constantly maintained, T2 piezoelectric transformer showed the minimum temperature rise of $9(^{\circ}C)$ at $150(K\Omega)$ load resistance. However, T1 piezoelecric transformer showed the temperature rise of $7.2(^{\circ}C)$ at $200(K\Omega)$ load resistance. The 6[w] CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) was successfully driven by T1 and T2 piezoelectric transformer but, its temperature rise $\Delta$T[$^{\circ}C)$] was generated more than $20(^{\circ}C)$. It is concluded that we have to design the piezoelectric transformers so that its output impedance correspond to the load impeadance, including any stray capacitance.

  • 0.10Pb(SbS11/2TSnS11/2T)OS13T-0.25PbTiOS13T-0.65PbZrOS13T ceramics modified by LaS12TOS13T(1[mol%]) and MnOS12T(0-0.30[mol%]) were fabricated. The structural and pyroelectric properties with contents of MnOS12T were studied. Crystal structure of a specimen was rhombohedral type and average grain sizes were decreased with increasing the contents of MnOS12T. Relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor were minimum in the specimens doped 0.24[mol%]MnOS12T. (PbS10.99TLaS10.01T)[(SbS11/2TSnS11/2T) TiS10.25TZrS10.65T]OS13T specimen modified 0.24[mol%]MnOS12T showed the good pyroelectric properties and pyroelectric coefficient and voltage responsivity were 6.73x10S0-8T[C/cmS02TK], 125[V/W], respectively. Voltage responsivity was increased with decreasing the chopper frequency.
