Enhancement of Density and Piezoelectric Properties of 0.96(K0.456Na0.536)Nb0.95Sb0.05-0.04Bi0.5(Na0.82K0.18)0.5ZrO3 Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics through Two-Step Sintering Method (Two-Step 소결법을 통한 0.96(K0.456Na0.536)Nb0.95Sb0.05-0.04Bi0.5(Na0.82K0.18)0.5ZrO3 무연 압전 세라믹의 밀도 및 압전 특성 향상)

  • In this study, we investigated the microstructure and piezoelectric properties of 0.96(K0.456Na0.536)Nb0.95Sb0.05-0.04Bi0.5(Na0.82K0.18)0.5ZrO3 (KNNS-BNKZ) ceramics based on one-step and two-step sintering processes. One-step sintering led to significant abnormal grain (AG) growth at temperatures above 1,085 ℃. With increasing sintering temperature, piezoelectric and dielectric properties were enhanced, resulting in a high d33 = 506 pC/N for one-step specimen sintered at 1,100 ℃ (one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen). However, for one-step 1,115 ℃ specimen, a slight decrease in d33 was observed, emphasizing the importance of a high tetragonal (T) phase fraction for superior piezoelectric properties. Achieving a relative density above 84 % for samples sintered by the one-step sintering process was challenging. Conversely, two-step sintering significantly improved the relative density of KNNS-BNKZ ceramics up to 96 %, attributed to the control of AG nucleation in the first step and grain growth rate control in the second step. The quantity of AG nucleation was affected by the duration of the first step, determining the final microstructure. Despite having a lower T phase fraction than that of the one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen, the two-step specimen exhibited higher piezoelectric coefficients (d33 = 574 pC/N and kp = 0.5) than those of the one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen due to its higher relative density. Performance evaluation of magnetoelectric composite devices composed of one-step and two-step specimens showed that despite having a higher g33, the magnetoelectric composite with the one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen exhibited the lowest magnetoelectric voltage coefficient, due to its lowest kp. This study highlights the essential role of phase fraction and relative density in enhancing the performance of piezoelectric materials and devices, showcasing the effectiveness of the two-step sintering process for controlling the microstructure of ceramic materials containing volatile elements.

  • PSN-PT 2성분계 압전세라믹스의 상도로부터 유전적, 압전적 특성이 양호한 MPB (Morphotropic phase boundary)부근의 조성을 선택하여 도너 도펀트인 $Nb_2O_5$와 억셉터 도펀트인 $Fe_2O_3$를 각각 $0{\sim}9wt%$ 첨가하여 유전특성을 비교, 연구해보았다 시편모두 $1250^{\circ}C$이상에서 이론밀도의 96%이상의 값을 얻을 수 있었고 상온, 1kHz에서 $Fe_2O_3$의 경우 0.1wt% 첨가된 시편에서 ${\varepsilon}_r=2054$의 최대 비유전율이 나타났으며, 0.7wt% 첨가된 시편에서는 $tan{\delta}$=0.49%의 최소 유전 손실값을 얻었다. 도펀트가 첨가됨에 따라 ${\varepsilon}_r$는 점점 감소하는 경향을 보였으며 큐리온도 Tc는 $Fe_2O_3$의 경우에서 더 큰 값이 나타났다. $Nb_2O_5$의 경우 도펀트의 증가에 따라 완만한 Relaxor의 형태로 나타났다.

  • We weal know that PbO was poisonous and prone to volatilize, then to pollute the circumstance and hurt to people, so we should dope other innocuous additives instead of lead to increase Tc of composite PTC material. In order to prepare lead-free $BaTiO_3$-based PTC with middle Curie point, the incorporation on $(BaNaK)(TiNb)O_3$ into $BaTiO_3$-based ceramics was investigated on samples containing 0.05, 0.07 and 0.1mol% of $(BaNaK)(TiNb)O_3$. $(BaNaK)(TiNb)O_3$ was compounded as standby material by conventional solid-state reaction technique. The starting materials were $Na_2O_3$,$K_2CO_3$, $BaCO_3$, $TiO_2$ and $Nb_2O_5$ powder, and using solid-state reaction method, too. The microstructure of samples were investigated by SEM, DSC, XRD and dielectric properties. Phase composition and lattice parameters were investigated by X-ray diffraction. Also, we are measure the resistivity of sintered bodies with calcinations condition.

  • In this study, the acoustic transducer of a thin circular disc-type with PZT/Metal was designed. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.5wt\%$ $MnO_2$ and NiO doped 0.1Pb($Mg_{1/3}$$Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$-$0.45PbTiO_3$-$0.45PbZrO_3$ ceramics were investigated aiming at acoustic transducer applications. The vibration characteristics for the laminated circular plate was analyzed for the various thickness and diameter of the piezoceramic layer and metal layer. The acoustic characteristics which is radiated from the acoustic transducer within the finite space was simulated using the finite element method. It has been observed that the characteristics of the sound pressure ard impedance response calculated for the various models of the size and geometry of acoustic transducer.

  • In the composition of $Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$ the effect of particle size on PbO vaporization were measured, . The initial step of discontinuous vaporization of unreated PbO during the calcining process was depended on the particle size. All additives $La_2O_3Nb_2O_5$ and $Al_2O_3$ inhibited the grain growth of the composition $Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$ +2wt% excess PbO. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the composition $Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$ were improved by the addition of 2wt% excess PbO and proper additive. The electromechanical planar coupling factor of 0.65 and mechnical quality factor of 390 could be obtained by adding 5wt% $Nb_2O_5$ to the composition 2wt% excess PbO+$Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$.

Quantitative Analysis of Ultrathin SiO2 Interfacial Layer by AES Depth Profilitng

  • When a $Ta_O_5$ dielectric film is deposited on a bare silicon, the growth of $SiO_2$ at the $Ta_O_5$/Si interface cannot be avoided. Even though the $SiO_2$ layer is ultrathin (a few nm), it has great effects on the electrical properties of the capacitor. The concentration depth profiles of the ultrathin interfacial $SiO_2$ and $SiO_2/Si_3N_4$ layers were obtained using an Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) equipped with a cylindrical mirror analyzer (CMA). These AES depth profiles were quantitatively analyzed by comparing with the theoretical depth profiles which were obtained by considering the inelastic mean free path of Auger electrons and the angular acceptance function of CMA. The direct measurement of the interfacial layer thicknesses by using a high resolution cross-sectional TEM confirmed the accuracy of the AES depth analysis. The $SiO_2/Si_3N_4$ double layers, which were not distinguishable from each other under the TEM observation, could be effectively analyzed by the AES depth profiling technique.

Microwave Dielectric Properties of ${Ca_{1-x}}{Nd_2x/3}$$TiO_3$Ceramics (${Ca_{1-x}}{Nd_2x/3}$$TiO_3$계 세라믹스의 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • Ca$_{1-x}$Nd$_{2+x}$3/TiO$_3$계에 대하여 소결 온도 변화(120$0^{\circ}C$-140$0^{\circ}C$) 및 Nd$^{3+}$ 의 치환량 (0.15$\leq$x$\leq$0.51)에 따른 마이크로파 유전특성을 조사하였다. 동일 조성의 경우 소결 온도 변화에 따라 Qf(Q=1/tan$\delta$, f=frequency)는 밀도 증가에 의해 다소 증가되었으나, 유전상수(K)는 커다란 변화가 없었다. 소결 온도가 동일한 경우 Qf는 x=0.42 조성까지는 증가하였으나, x=0.51 조성에서는 상대 밀도와 결정립 크기의 감소로 인해 감소하였다. Nd$^{3+}$ 의 치환량이 증가함에 따라 A-자리의 평균 이온 반경의 세제곱에 비례하여 유전상수(K)는 감소하였고, 공진주파수의 온도계수(TCF)는 tolerance factor(t)와 A-자리 결합원자가의 감소로 급격히 감소하였으나, 이차상 TiO$_2$의 영향으로 x=0.3 이상에서는 증가하였다.

Wideband Bandstop Filter Based on Capacitively Coupled λ/4 Short-Circuited Lines

  • A new wideband bandstop filter(BSF) with a sharp roll-off characteristic is introduced in a stripline structure in this paper. The BSF consists of two sections: the first is two capacitively coupled $\lambda/4$ short-circuited lines with opposite ground positions, while the second is a capacitively coupled $\lambda/4$ short-circuited line. The BSF provides three transmission zeros within the stopband and better than 22 dB rejection over the whole wireless local area network (WLAN) band from 5.15 to 5.825 GHz. The BSF, cascaded to an U.S. ultra-wideband(UWB: 3.1~10.6 GHz) band-pass filter(BPF), is simulated with HFSS and realized with low-temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) green tape with a dielectric constant of 7.8. The measurement results agree well with the HFSS simulation results. The size of the UWB BPF including the BSF is $3{\times}6.3\times0.45\;mm^3$.

Structural Distortions and Electrical Properties of Magnetoelectric Layered Perovskites: $Bi_4Ti_3O_{}12.nBiFeO_3$(n=1&2)

  • The structure refinements and the electrical and magnetoelectric measurements were performed for BIT.1BF and BIT.2BT. The tetragonal distortion of the ab plane became lessened with the addition of $4BiFeO_3 into Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ significantly. However, the tilting of the outer-oxygen octahedra of the perovskite unit and the elongatin of the $(Bi_2O_2)^{2+}$ layers became more pronounced. For the both phases, the bariations of dielectric properties and electrical conductivities at high temperatures showed that the ferroelectic I-rerroelectric II phase transition existed before reaching the Curie temperature. The electrical conductivity became higher with the increase of $Fe^{3+}$ ions, implying that the electron transfer increased correspondingly. The magnetoelectric effect was observed linear up to ~8 kOe, which was stronger in BIT.1BF than BIT.2BF. This behavior indicates that the distortion of the ab plane may affect the induced polarization as well as magnetic moment.

  • Zirconia is well known in industrial applications for its mechanical characteristics. DLC (diamond-like carbon) have high elastic modulus, high electric resistivity, high dielectric constant, high wear resistance, low friction coefficient, bio compatibility, chemically inert and thermally stable. Because of all these physical and chemical properties these types of coatings have become key procedure for thin coating. Friction coefficient of DLC films is already evaluated and the current work is a further advancement by calculating the fracture toughness and wear resistance of these coatings. In the present study DLC thin film coatings are developed on $ZrO_2$ alloy surface using Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) method. Vicker hardness test is employed and it was concluded that, DLC coatings increase the Vickers hardness of ceramics.
