  • This study reveals the thin sheet metal Process with multi-forming die that the name is progressive die, also high precision production part is made. They require analysis of many kinds of important factors, i.e. theory and practice of metal press working and its phenomena, die structure, machining condition for die making, die material, heat treatment of die components, know-how and so on. In this study, we designed and constructed a multi-forming progressive die as a bending working of multi-stage and peformed through the try out. Out of the characteristics of this paper that nothing might be ever seen before such as this type of research method on the all of processes of thin and high precision production part.

  • The dimensions of die and workpiece are changed continuously during loading, unloading, and ejecting stage. Finally, to predict precisely the dimension of forged part and get the die dimension for the net-shape components, the analysis of die and workpiece should be evaluated from the loading to ejecting. Therefore, the experimental and FEM analyses are performed to investigate the elastic characteristics at workpiece and die in the closed-die upsetting for ferrous material FE techniques are proposed to consider the unloading and ejecting stages and estimate more precisely the dimension of forged part and die. The dimensional changes fur the workpiece were evaluated quantatively during loading, unloading, and ejecting stages. The strains measured by the strain gages were compared with the estimated values by the FEM.

  • This study described computer aided die design system for cold forging of non-axisymmetric parts. To design the die of cold forging. an integrated approach based on a rule-base system and commercial F. E. code were adopted. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial CAD package named as AutoCAD. The system includes four modules. In the initial data input module, the variables which are necessary to design of die are inputted by user and die material are selected from the database. In the analysis and redesign module, stress distrubution action on the designed die is analyzed by commercial FEM code NISA II. The designed die is modified to prevent failure in both states of stress free and pressurizing. The developed system provides powerful capabilities for die design of non-axisymmetric parts.

  • The gaps between the die margin worked and the casting body were measured with an optical microscope and compared after making crown prosthetic materials using three kinds of die material - dental stone, extra hard stone, epoxy resin - used in crown prosthesis. The results are as follows : 1. All the gaps between the cast cervical margin and the casting bodies were relatively good regardless of die materials used with the gaps under $50{\mu}m$, the allowable limit. 2. The cervical margin suitability of epoxy resin die was the highest among the three kinds of die material with the suitability value of $30.28{\pm}12.67$. 3. Among the four surfaces(buccal, lingual, mesial, distal) of all the casting bodies, buccal surface was the highest in the cervical margin suitability with the value of $25.93{\pm}15.51$.

  • In this paper, we report a fluxless eutectic die bonding process which uses 80Au-20Sn eutectic alloy. The chip LEDs are picked and placed on silicon substrate wafers. The bonding process temperatures and force are $305\sim345^{\circ}C$ and 10$\sim$100gf, respectively. The bonding process was performed on graphite heater with nitrogen atmosphere. The quality of bonding are evaluated by shear test and thermal resistance. Results of fluxless eutectic die bonding show that shear strength is Max. 3.85kgf at 345$^{\circ}C$ /100gf and thermal resistance of junction to die bonding is Min. 3.09K/W at 325$^{\circ}C$/100gf.

  • It is very important to obtain the net shape of the product to maximize the shear cutting surface of fine blanking. In this paper, the fine blanking die was manufactured to achieve part characteristics, such as flatness and a fully sheared surface. The V-ring in the fine blanking die was designed to prevent lateral movement of the material. The fine blanking experiment was conducted with the fine blanking die. The material usage rate was increased by over 5.7% and that of the water-soluble lubricant was decreased by over 33% when the 2-cavity die technology was applied to fine blanking. The capacity of the existing press could lead to productivity improvement and cost reduction. Thus, 2-cavity die technology for fine blanking with a minute module of an accurate gear for producing seat recliner parts was developed.

  • In this paper, a longitudinal die insert fracture which occurred during cold forging of a high strength ball-stud with a sound die design nearly optimized empirically for relatively low strength material of SCM435 is introduced and the reason is revealed. A comparative study between SCM435 and ESW105 is quantitatively made using a thermoelastic finite element method for die structural analysis coupled with a forging simulator theoretically based on a rigid-plastic finite element method. It has been shown that the longitudinal die insert fracture caused from non-optimized value of shrink fit, emphasizing that the die optimal design is inevitable for cold forging of high strength materials.

  • In the drawing of large size automotive panels, elastic deflection of die components is induced by the contact force between them. The deflection is nonuniform and locally distributed, and results in nonuniform material flow. In order to arrange such a nonuniform die gap, a correcting operation, so called die spotting, is inevitable, which requires trial and error works and consuming time. A prediction of the bending deflection prior to a try-out must be useful to reduce the die spotting time. In this study, drawing process of a front fender is simulated first. and the deflection of the blank holder is calculated from the contact force imposing on th blank holder. The balance block heights ensuring a uniform deflection are optimized by the analysis and design of experiments.

  • This paper presents the mechanics of the link of a double-action link-type hydraulic die set for the enclosed die forging. Operational principle of the die set in the enclosed die forging is introduced with emphasis on force transmission from the press and the hydraulic system to the material through links, die components and punches. The force exerted on the link is statically investigated and its structural analysis is carried out. The analyzed results are discussed to be used for design of the link system.

  • In this study, two types of die material cast iron was treated for surface hardening by using high power diode laser to improve mechanical properties of die which is using as essential production technology in the parts manufacturing in virtually all the infrastructure industries now. First of all, the heat treatment characteristics of FCD550 material which is spheroidal graphite cast iron, and through the heat treatment of HCI350 material which is flake graphite cast iron, the heat treatment characteristics of the two materials were compared. The hardness of hardened zone increased over 3 times over base material for both specimens, but as for required heat input, HCI350 was higher than FCD550 material depending on the heat conductivity of the materials by the content amount and shape of graphite contained in the material.
