  • A study on the insulation aging assessment and maintenance for submarine medium voltage power cable systems has been performed The purpose of this work is the economic discrimination and maintenance of bad cables which is likely to cause cable system failure. 1 have found that aging status of submarine cable systems are very poor and in progress. Therefore, we have the replacement of cable terminations and repeat the diagnostic measurement Insulation status were improved with the replacement of cable terminations. I have confirmed, with the electrical md structural analysis of terminations, that the poor aging status of cables are mainly caused not by the cable insulations but by the aging of cable terminations. From the above results, I have also confirmed that the domestic diagnostic system is successful and convenient for the discrimination and maintenance of the damaged cables economically.

  • When companies or institutes manage data, in order to utilize it as useful resources for decision-making, it is essential to offer precise and reliable data. While most small and medium-sized enterprises and public institutes have been investing a great amount of money in management and maintenance of their data systems, the investment in data management has been inadequate. When public institutions establish their data systems, inspection has been constantly carried out on the data systems in order to improve safety and effectiveness. However, their capabilities in improving the quality of data have been insufficient. This study develops an automatic tool to diagnose the quality of data in a way to diagnose the data quality condition of the inspected institute quantitatively at the stage of design and closure by inspecting the data system and proves its practicality by applying the automatic tool to inspection. As a means to diagnose the quality, this study categorizes, in the aspect of quality characteristics, the items that may be improved through diagnosis at the stage of design, the early stage of establishing the data system and the measurement items by the quality index regarding measurable data values at the stage of establishment and operation. The study presents a way of quantitative measurement regarding the data structures and data values by concretizing the measurement items by quality index in a function of the automatic tool program. Also, the practicality of the tool is proved by applying the tool in the inspection field. As a result, the areas which the institute should improve are reported objectively through a complete enumeration survey on the diagnosed items and the indicators for quality improvement are presented quantitatively by presenting the quality condition quantitatively.

Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System of Lutein: Physicochemical Properties and Effect on Bioavailability of Warfarin

  • Objective of present study was to prepare and characterize self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) of lutein and to evaluate its effect on bioavailability of warfarin. The SNEDDS was prepared using an oil, a surfactant, and co-surfactants with optimal composition based on pseudo-ternary phase diagram. Effect of the SNEDDS on the bioavailability of warfarin was performed using Sprague Dawley rats. Lutein was successfully formulated as SNEDDS for immediate self-emulsification and dissolution by using combination of Peceol as oil, Labrasol as surfactant, and Transcutol-HP or Lutrol-E400 as co-surfactant. Almost complete dissolution was achieved after 15 min while lutein was not detectable from the lutein powder or intra-capsule content of a commercial formulation. SNEDDS formulation of lutein affected bioavailability of warfarin, showing about 10% increase in $C_{max}$ and AUC of the drug in rats while lutein as non-SNEDDS did not alter these parameters. Although exact mechanism is not yet elucidated, it appears that surfactant and co-surfactant used for SNEDDS formulation caused disturbance in the anatomy of small intestinal microvilli, leading to permeability change of the mucosal membrane. Based on this finding, it is suggested that drugs with narrow therapeutic range such as warfarin be administered with caution to avoid undesirable drug interaction due to large amount of surfactants contained in SNEDDS.

Demographics of Isolated Galaxies along the Hubble Sequence

  • Isolated galaxies in low-density regions are significant in the sense that they are least affected by the hierarchical pattern of galaxy growth and interactions with perturbers at least for the last few Gyr. To form a comprehensive picture of the star formation history of isolated galaxies, we construct a catalog of isolated galaxies and their comparison sample in relatively denser environments. The galaxies are drawn from SDSS DR7 in the redshift range of 0.025 < z < 0.044. We performed visual inspection and classified their morphology following the Hubble classification scheme. We have investigated the color-magnitude diagram and found elliptical and unbarred spiral galaxies in isolated systems are relatively fainter and bluer than those in denser regions. For the spectroscopic study, we make use of the OSSY catalog (Oh et al. 2011). Our analysis on the absorption-line properties based on the comparison with stellar population models suggests that isolated elliptical galaxies are likely to be younger and metal poorer, while isolated Sc-type galaxies seem to have older luminosity-weighted ages, than their high-density counterpart. In addition, according to the BPT diagnostics, early-type galaxies among isolated galaxies are rather evenly classified into star forming, composite, Seyfert and LINER, whereas their comparisons are mainly populated in the LINER region. On the other hand, late-type galaxies do not show any prominent difference. We discuss the evolutionary histories of isolated galaxies in the context of the standard ${\Lambda}CDM$ cosmology.

Diagnostics and Prognostics Based on Adaptive Time-Frequency Feature Discrimination

  • This paper presents a novel diagnostic technique for monitoring the system conditions and detecting failure modes and precursors based on wavelet-packet analysis of external noise/vibration measurements. The capability is based on extracting relevant features of noise/vibration data that best discriminate systems with different noise/vibration signatures by analyzing external measurements of noise/vibration in the time-frequency domain. By virtue of their localized nature both in time and frequency, the identified features help to reveal faults at the level of components in a mechanical system in addition to the existence of certain faults. A prima-facie case is made via application of the proposed approach to fault detection in scroll and rotary compressors, although the methods and algorithms are very general in nature. The proposed technique has successfully identified the existence of specific faults in the scroll and rotary compressors. In addition, its capability of tracking the severity of specific faults in the rotary compressors indicates that the technique has a potential to be used as a prognostic tool.

Remote Measurement for Automobile′s ECU Diagnostic Signals based on the PDA (PDA 기반의 차량 진단신호의 원격 계측)

  • In this paper, we present a new method for monitoring of ECU's self diagnostic signals of vehicle without wire. In order to measure the ECU's self diagnostic signals, the interfaced circuit is designed to communicate ECU and a designed display terminal according to the ISO, SAE regulation of communication protocol standard. A 80C196KC processor is used for communicating ECU's self diagnostic signals and the results are sent to PDA monitoring system. Software on PDA is developed to monitor the ECU's self diagnostic signals using the Embedded Visual C++ compiler in which RS232 port is programmed by half duplex method. The algorithms for measuring the ECU's self diagnostic signals are verified to monitor ECU's state. At the same time, the information to fix the vehicle's problem can be shown on the developed PDA software. The possibility for remote measurement of ECU self diagnostic signal using PDA is also verified through the developed systems and algorithms.

Micro-processor 80C196KC is used for communicating ECU's self diagnositc signals and the results are sent to the wireless terminal and PC monitoring system. Wireless terminal is also developed by 80C196KC, LCD, RF module, and keypad. The command from the keypad is sent to ECU through RF module and the result show on the Graphic LCD in real time. Software on PC is developed to monitor the ECU's self diagnostic signals using the Visual C++ complier in which RS232 port is programmed by half duplex method. The algorithms for measuring the ECU's self diagnostic signals are verified to monitor both ECU and portable terminal state. At the same time, the information to fix the vehicle's problem can be shown on the developed software. The possibility for remote measurement of ECU self diagnostic signal is verified through the developed systems and algorithms.

Development of Effective Analytical Signal Models for Functional Microwave Imaging

  • Various active microwave imaging techniques have been developed for cancer detection for past several decades. Both the microwave tomography and the UWB radar techniques, constituting functional microwave imaging systems, use the electrical property contrast between normal tissues and malignancies to detect the latter in an early development stage. Even though promising simulation results have been reported, the understanding of the functional microwave imaging diagnostics has been relied heavily on the complicated numerical results. We present a computationally efficient and physically instructive analytical electromagnetic wave channel models developed for functional microwave imaging system in order to detect especially the breast tumors as early as possible. The channel model covers the propagation factors that have been examined in the previous 2-D models, such as the radial spreading, path loss, partial reflection and transmission of the backscattered electromagnetic waves from the tumor cell. The effects of the system noise and the noise from the inhomogeneity of the tissue to the reconstruction algorithm are modeled as well. The characteristics of the reconstructed images of the tumor using the proposed model are compared with those from the confocal microwave imaging.

  • In this paper, the design and implementation of a multi-processor based die bonder machine for the semiconductor will be described. This is a final research results carried out for two years from June, 1986 to July, 1988. The mechanical system consists of three subsystems such as bonding head module, wafer feeding module, and lead frame feeding module. The overall control system consists of the following three subsystems each of which employs a 16 bit microprocessor MC 68000 : (i) supervisory control system, (ii) visual recognition / inspection system and (iii) the display system. Specifically, the supervisory control system supervises the whole sequence of die bonder machine, performs a self-diagnostics while it controls the bonding head module according to the prespecified bonding cycle. The vision system recognizes the die to inspect the die quality and deviation / orientation of a die with respect to a reference position, while it controls the wafer feeding module. Finally, the display system performs a character display, image display ans various error messages to communicate with operator. Lead frame feeding module is controlled by this subsystem. It is reported that the proposed control system were applied to an engineering sample and tested in real-time, and the results are sucessful as an engineering sample phase.

New Antisense RNA Systems Targeted Against Plant Pathogens

  • tRNA and 7SL RNA based antisense vehicles were prepared by inserting conserved anti-viral and anti-viroid domains. Anti-PVS coat protein leader sequence (ACPL) and antistructural antihairpin domain of PSTVd (AHII) were inserted in tRNA cassette; anti- zing finger domain of PVS, AHII and anti hop latent viroid ribozyme were inserted in 7SL RNA gene isolated from A. thaliana. These constructs were shown to be transcribed both, in in vitro and in in vivo conditions. However, it followed from our work that closely linked position of PoIII reference genes and PoIIII antisense genes within T-DNA lead to the impairment of RNA expression in transgenic plants. To assay in vivo transcription of antisense genes, hairy root potato cultures were established using h. tumefaciens A4-24 bearing both, Ri plasmid and PoIII-promoterless plant expression vectors with antisense RNA genes. Expression of antisense RNA in transgenic potato tissues was proven by specific RT-PCR reactions.
