  • Berberis aristata (family Berberidaceae), known as 'Daruharidra' in Ayurvedic system of medicine, is an important medicinal plant used extensively for treating a variety of ailments in various systems of indigenous medicine. Being an important medicinal plant it is being adulterated and in the absence of any pharmacognostic information it is very difficult to check the adulteration. The present study was therefore, carried out to provide the requisite pharmacognostic details. Morphological, anatomical and phytochemical aspects of B. aristata were carried out. Diagnostic features of B. aristata root were identified and characterized from the above investigations and presented in the present communication. Some of the diagnostic features of the root drug noted from the anatomical study are patches of pericyclic fibre, pitted sclerieds, berberine containing cells and heterocyclic medullary rays. HPTLC analysis showed three distinct bands of which berberine was identified as the major constituents. The $R_f$. value of other bands was also calculated.

  • Chest radiograms obtained by using Fuji Computed Radiography(FCR) system were compared to conventional film/screen radiograms. The FCR images showed better image quality in diagnostic informations than the conventional chest images. In FCR, the radiation exposure to patient for chest examination could be reduced up to one tenths of conventional chest examination. The main advantages or FCR were considered to depend on the contrast processing and frequency processing properties. The use of FCR in clinical work may improve both diagnostic quality and radiation exposure.

  • PET/CT is a new imaging technology that combines high-quality Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT). This imaging provides simultaneous anatomical and metabolic information. Therefore PET/CT is useful diagnostic modality for early detection of malignant tumor, accurate staging, decision on therapeutic plan, monitoring response to therapy and rapid detection of recurrence. We report oral and maxillofacial cancers diagnosed by using PET/CT and the usefulness of PET/CT in the evaluation of postoperative recurrence.

  • Background: Infectious mononucleosis is a disease precipitated by Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) in mostly children, some seronegative adolescents and young adults comprising clinical symptoms such as fever, lymphadenopathy, and pharyngitis as well as laboratory findings such as hetero-phil antibodies and atypical lymphocytosis. It is confirmed by serologic test for EBV. Materials and Methods: A retrospective evaluation of 26 patients who diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis was peformed through the analysis of typical symptom, sign and laboratory findings. Results : Infectious mononucleosis occurs mostly at 3 to 10 years (74.9%), common symptoms and signs are fever, cervical lymphadenopathy, tonsillar enlargement and exudate. Positive ratio of atypical Lymphocyte(>10%) and hetrophil antibodies are 61.5%, 35.2% respectively, it is less diagnostic. EBV-viral capsid antigen(VCA) IgM are positive in all cases, so it is most diagnostic findings. Conclusion: Infectious mononucleosis should be considered as a cause of cervical lymphadenopathy and pharyngotonsillitis in children and young adults, the assessment of EBV-VCA IgM is necessary for the diagnosis.

  • This work characterized in terms of the reduction of exposure dose by use of the heavy elements filter in the diagnostic radiology. They contained heavy elements filter of Ho and X-ray beam harding filters such as Al and Cu. From the results of experimental evaluation, it was founded that in the case of the Ho filter, X-ray property was not changed with variety of kVp. The surface dose and absorption dose was increased in order of Cu, He and Al. The contrast of image showed the higher value in order of Cu, Al and Ho.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the white matter fiber configuration in various developmental CNS anomaly 대상 및 방법: Jubert Syndrome, congenital schizencephaly, callosal agenesis and hemiplegic cerebral palsy patients were evaluated by diffusion tensor MRI. All studies were performed using a 1.5T Philips Gyroscan Intern system. Diffusion weighted imaging was performed using single-shot echo planar imaging, with navigator echo phase correction and SENSE. Diffusion weighting was performed along six independent axes, using diffusion weighting of b=600s/$\textrm{mm}^2$. 128 matrix/zero filled to 256, 23cm FOV, 3mm slice thickness were used for imaging parameters. Data were processed on a Window-2000 PC equipped with IDL and PRIDE (Philips Medical System).

  • A PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) diagnostic technique for the evaluation of the flow characteristics in refrigerator is introduced. Smoke particles of which density is small enough to follow up the air flow are used for visualization of the air flows in the refrigerators. A rectangular room model is tested for the verifications of the dignostic technique. By evaluating the turbulent intensity and the deviation value of the turbulent intensity distribution that were obtained from PIV results, an optimal ventilating condition is suggested. The constructed technique is used for the diagnostics on the flow of an actual refrigerator. It has experimentally proved that the present technique is able to evaluate the ventilation conditions of refrigerators.

  • Recently paper based diagnostic kits have drawn great interest in the point-of-care testing market (POCT). The paper based detection systems provide inexpensive, rapid and safe analyses for disease markers and/or pathogens. Vitamin C (i.e., ascorbic acid) regulates body's immune system as an antioxidant agent. Humans, however, do not have enough amounts of enzymes involved in the synthesis of vitamin C that it is required to be obtained from their diets (e.g., beverages and/or supplements). Here, we have prepared a paper based kit to detect the concentration of Vitamin C presented in commercially available beverages. The evaluation provides the fast, simple and accurate results for detecting Vitamin C in the prepared paper based kit.

  • This test was performed to assess the insulation deterioration condition of the stator winding of 3.3kV class induction motors which have been in service for 15 years after being installed in 1988. The insulation diagnostic tests include resistance, polarization index(P.I). dissipation factor(${\Delta}tan{\delta}$) and maximum partial discharges(Qmax). The results of diagnostic tests were compared to the visual inspection in overhaul.

  • The correlation coefficients among hepatic extraction fraction(HEF), DISIDA-K, and ICG Rmax methods were found using two normal rabbits and four rabbits with damaged liver. The correlation coefficient between HEF and ICG R-max which is a standard technique in evaluating liver function was found to be 0.93. Therefore HEF is a valuable diagnostic method since it is not only accurate, but possible to estimate remaining liver function after surgical of cancerous hepatic tissue.
