The Development of a Balancing Control System for the Anti-Rolling Rail of a Delivery Ship (용달선의 횡 동요를 억제하기 위한 곡선레일의 수평유지장치 개발)

  • A delivery ship is used to handle the cargo with the crane to/from the ships. The ship is inclined in the direction of a cargo which is hung on a crane. In this case, a arc shaped rail should be in the equilibrium state to get good anti rolling performance. In this study, a device and control algorithm are developed to take accurate and quick equilibrium of the rail. The device is composed of a hinged immovable support and two screw jacks. And the control algorithm demands two controllers. One controller is designed such that the screw jack 1 and 2 follow the position reference signal generated by a tilt sensor. The other controller of two degree of freedom is designed to remove the synchronous error occurred between jack 1 and jack 2. The simulation results show that the desirable control performance is achieved.

  • In this paper, a controller design for coreless linear synchronous motor is proposed. The designed controller is mainly composed of speed and current control, which are carried out by the high-speed digital signal processor(DSP). In addition the PWM inverter is controlled by space voltage PWM method. This system is implemented using by 32-bit DSP(TMS320C31), a high-integrated logic device(EPM940), and IPM(Intelligent Power Modules) for compact and powerful system design. The experimental results show the effective performance of controller for coreless linear synchronous motor.

  • This paper presents the duplex controller operated as master slave for Self Excited Static Type excitation system and the results of operation for duplex digital excitation system.   • In this paper a novel tracking system is described, regarding the influence of shadow between array, aimed at improving the efficiency of PV tracking system. Comparing with a building site versus capacity power, domestic solar powers have a limited siting. Therefore, each array interferes with the shadow of other arrays. The loss by influence of those shadow can be compensated for by means of control algorithm of the tracking device. The paper suggests a method controlling an altitude for length which is received the shadow influence of PV array. By using an azimuth of current solar position and the length between arrays, the controller of tracking device is able to calculate the length between actual arrays and make a comparison of the shadow length at a specific time with the length between arrays. When the shadow length is longer than the length between arrays, the controller of tracking device can adjust a position by compensating error altitude of the length between arrays at an altitude of current solar position. In the paper, we develop the control algorithm able to minimize the loss caused by the influence of shadow on the PV tracking system, and compared this with conventional output system. The controller has been tested in the laboratory with proposed algorithm and shows excellent performance.

  • In this paper, position and speed control algorithm of LSM (Linear Stepping Motor) using general-purpose PCI I/O board is discussed. The main purpose of this paper is to show that LSM controller can be established on the non real time operating system such as Microsoft Win2000 under the assumption that thread priority strategy is well designed. We can guarantee sampling interval less than 5msec based on the Pentium III microprocessor. Therefore this kind of LSM controller development environment makes shorten the prior research period needed to verify the validness of the proposed control strategy. We also introduce the tool of the real-time windows target system of matlab, which also makes shorten the prior research period. The main focus of this paper is on developing general purpose NT device driver which can drive the general purpose PCI board and applying it for implementing the hardware interface for 2- axis linear stepping motor control. From the experimental results show that the developed LSM controller guarantee 2 micrometer resolution in position control with 10cm/sec moving speed

  • The existing remote control system have some inherent disadvantage of direct control in the limit range. In some special cases, for example, a power apparatus, an unmanned factory, a nuclear factory, a security management system, the tele-operation is needed to control remote robot without limit space. This field is based on the Internet communication. Because the Internet is constructed all over the world. And it is possible that we control remote mobile robot in the long distance. In this paper, we developed a remote control system. This system is divided into two primary parts. These are local site and remote site. There are the moving robot and web server in the remote site and there is the robot control device in local site. The moving robot is moved by two stepper motors and the robot control device consists of SA-1100 micro controller and embedded Linux. And this controller is an embedded system. Public personal computer which is connected the Internet is used for the web server. The web server provides the mobile robot control interface program to the remote controller and captures the image for feedback information. In the whole system, a robot control device is connected with moving robot and web server through the Internet. So the operator can control the moving robot in the distance through the Internet.

Design of a smart MEMS accelerometer using nonlinear control principles

  • This paper presents a novel smart MEMS accelerometer which employs a hybrid control algorithm and an estimator. This scheme is realized by adding a sliding-mode controller to a conventional PID closed loop system to achieve higher stability and higher dynamic range and to prevent pull-in phenomena by preventing finger displacement from passing a maximum preset value as well as adding an adaptive nonlinear observer to a conventional PID closed loop system. This estimator is used for online estimation of the parameter variations for MEMS accelerometers and gives the capability of self testing to the system. The analysis of convergence and resolution show that while the proposed control scheme satisfies these criteria it also keeps resolution performance better than what is normally obtained in conventional PID controllers. The performance of the proposed hybrid controller investigated here is validated by computer simulation.

  • A haptic device operated by the user's hand can receive information on position and orientation of the hand and display force and moment generated in the virtual environment to the hand. For realistic haptic display, the detailed information on collision between objects is necessary. In the past, the point-based graphic environment has been used in which the end effector of a haptic device was represented as a point and the interaction of this point with the virtual environment was investigated. In this paper, the shape-based graphic environment is proposed in which the interaction of the shape with the environment is considered to analyze collision or contact more accurately. To this end. the so-called Gilbert-Johnson-Keerthi (GJK) algorithm is adopted to compute collision points and collision instants between two shapes in the 3-D space. The 5- DOF haptic hand controller is used with the GJK algorithm to demonstrate a peg-in-hole operation in the virtual environment in conjunction with a haptic device. It is shown from various experiments that the shape-based representation with the GJK algorithm can provide more realistic haptic display for peg-in-hole operations.

  • An analysis of the causes of railroad crossing accidents reveals that most train collision accidents that occur when safety crossing devices are functioning normally occur because vehicles either experience engine failure on the tracks or because drivers were not notified of the coming train, in which case they get trapped on the tracks when the crossing barriers descend. To prevent such an accident, obstacle detection device by using laser beams detecting the presence of obstacle and crossing bar direction controller by moving direction detection sensor using the Earth's magnetic field detection technology are used in the railroad crossing. Despite using the obstacles detector and crossing bar direction controller in the railroad crossing, the equipments for the railroad crossing does not prevent accidents completely. Therefore, this research has studied new method that can detect obstacles through image analyze and alternate existing equipments. There will be excellent effect to be preventing railroad crossing accident by developing a reliable and new obstacle detecting device.
