구기자에서 큰이십팔점박이무당벌레(Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata) 의 온도조건에 따른 발육특성과 친환경제재에 의한 방제효과 (Developmental characteristics of Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata under different temperatures and control effect of eco-friendly agricultural materials on Lycium chinense)

  • Host plants of the Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata are known as Solanaceae plants such as potato, tomato, eggplant and Lycium chinense. Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata (Motschulsky) cause continuous damage from early June to mid-August in leaves of L. chinense under environmental-friendly management in Cheongyang, Chungnam. The developmental period of egg and larva of H. vigintioctomaculata were investigated. H. vigintioctomaculata were reared on L. chinense at several temperatures, for example, 15, 20, 25 and $30^{\circ}C$ in the laboratory. In addition, the control effect of 5 eco-friendly agricultural materials were examined. As results, hatching rate is the highest to 91% at $25^{\circ}C$. Egg periods were 10.8, 7.7, 5.1 and 3.7 days at each tested temperature, respectively. And the total developmental periods from egg to adult were 42.7, 26.3, 18.4 and 19.4 days at each tested temperature, respectively. Otherwise, their eclosion rates from pupa to adult were showed 58%, 77%, 85%, 65% at each tested temperature, respectively. As a result of the control effect, both adults and larvae of H. vigintioctomaculata were shown a high mortality to mixture with extract of Sophora flavescens, Chenopodium ambrosioides and Melia azedarach. Additional, larvae is shown high mortality to extract of Azadirachta indica and Cymbopogon nardus. Thus H. vigintioctomaculata might be controled by using plant extract of eco-friendly agricultural materials in due season.

Sphingoshine-1-Phosphate Enhances Meiotic Maturation and Further Embryonic Development in Pigs

  • Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) has a many function involved proliferation, differentiation and survival of many cells. In this study, to investigate whether S1P improve the developmental competence of porcine embryos, 50 nM of S1P were supplemented during in vitro maturation (with EGF or without EGF) medium and/or in vitro culture (IVC) medium. Addition of S1P was significantly increased the rate of oocytes reaching metaphase II (MII) compared to the control (83.5 vs. 64.1%) in without EGF medium, but not with EGF medium (89.5 vs. 84.6%). When treated with $1{\mu}M$ of N1N-dimethylsphingosine (DMS), a sphingosine kinase inhibitor which is blocked endogenous generation of S1P, the meiotic progression rates to MII stage (without EGF: 45.2 and with EGF: 66.7%) were significantly decreased and degeneration rates (without EGF: 51.2 and with EGF: 30.1%) were increased in both medium compared to control group during IVM periods. Also, the rates of blastocyst formation was significantly increased in the S1P treated group compared to control group (29.0 vs. 19.2%) of EGF supplemented medium, whereas there were no effect in the EGF free medium (9.0 vs. 10.5%). After 12 h IVM, the phosphorylation of ERK1 and ERK2, which is major signaling pathway of MAP kinase, were increased in the S1P group than that of control or DMS group. When supplemented of S1P during IVC, the rates of blastocyst formation and total cell number (30.2% and 40.6) were significantly increased in S1P-treated group compared with control (20.1% and 32.5), DMS (12.3% and 25.1), and S1P plus DMS group (24.7% and 33.6). The percentage of apoptosis nuclei in the S1P group was significantly decreased than other groups. Also, the rates of blastocyst formation (26.7 vs. 14%) and total cell number (42.8 vs. 32.5) were significantly increased in the S1P group than those of control group when S1P added during the entire IVM and IVC periods. Taken together, our results indicate that S1P supplementation in IVM and/or IVC medium affects beneficial effect of meiotic maturation and subsequent developmental competence of porcine embryos.

Changes of Glycosidase Activity of Frozen-Thawed Spermatozoa in Human

  • To evaluate the effect of spermatozoa culture on glycosidase activity of frozen-thawed spermatozoa in human, the spermatozoa were treated experimentally and assayed for activities of ${\alpha}$-L-fucosidase, ${\alpha}$-D-mannosidase, ${\beta}$-D-galactosidase and N-acetyl-${\beta}$-D-glucosaminidase (${\beta}$-GlcNAc'ase). The ${\beta}$-GlcNAc'ase activity was at least two-folds higher than other glycosidases regardless of spermatozoa incubation (p<0.05). The spermatozoa motility was decreased with incubation periods, but no effects by different glycosidases on the changes of spermatozoa motility during the various periods of incubation. In all glycosidases, the spermatozoa-zona binding rates in spermatozoa without incubation were higher than in spermatozoa incubated for 2 h (p<0.05). ${\beta}$-GlcNAc'ase is present mainly in the plasma membrane of spermatozoa frozen-thawed in human. It was also shown that the glycosidase activity was increased in all glycosidases in spite of lower sperm-zona binding by spermatozoa incubation.

흰점박이꽃무지의 생육특성 (Bionomical characteristic of Protaetia brevitarsis)

  • 우리나라에서 약용으로 가장 많이 활용되고 있는 흰점박이꽃무지의 형태와 생육특성에 관하여 조사하였다. 성충은 야외에서 7월 상순 하순부터 출현하였으며 출현빈도가 가장 높은 시기는 8월 상순이었다. 또한 소수의 개체는 성충으로 월동하였다. 유충은 부엽토속에서 서식하며 11월까지는 모두 3령이 되어 월동하였다. 실내에서 암컷 1마리당 평균 152개를 산란하였고, $25^{\circ}C$$30^{\circ}C$에서 사육한 결과 알, 유충, 번데기 기간은 모두 높은 온도에서 발육기간이 짧았다. 성충수명은 암컷이 수컷보다 길었고, 집단사육 시보다는 개별사육 시 길었고, 높은 온도보다는 낮은 온도에서 길었다.

Hormonal Changes in Women Undergoing Bariatric Surgery: A Comparative Study with a Control Group

  • Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment option for obesity, but its effects on reproductive hormones are not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the impact of bariatric surgery on estrogen and progesterone levels in women with obesity. This was a prospective study that included 87 women with obesity who underwent bariatric surgery and 87 control women with obesity who did not. Blood samples were collected at baseline and at 3-month and 6-month follow-up periods to measure reproductive hormones and Adiponectin as well as medical history and physical examination for endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The study found that sleeve gastrectomy significantly increased follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels in the bariatric surgery group compared to the control group at 3 and 6-month follow-up. There was no significant difference in the mean levels of estrogen and progesterone between the two groups at the 3-month follow-up period. Bariatric surgery leads to significant weight loss in women with obesity, but it does not seem to have a significant impact on estrogen and progesterone levels in the short-term. Future studies with longer follow-up periods are needed to investigate the long-term effects of bariatric surgery on reproductive hormones.

한국어와 영어 두 언어를 동시에 습득하는 한국어린이의 한국어 후치부정어 습득에 대한 연구 (The Development of Postverbal Negation in Korean in a Korean-English Bilingual Child)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 태어나면서부터 영어와 한국어를 동시에 습득하는 한 한국어린이(R)의 한국어 후치부정어 발달과정을 살펴보는 것이고, 둘째, 후치부정어의 발달과정과 실제 사용상의 발달적인 측면에서 한국어만 습득하는 어린이들과 비교하여 비슷한 발달 모습과 다른 모습을 분석하는 것이다. 세 번째는 R의 한국어 부정어 습득 과정뿐만 아니라 관찰되는 특별한 형태의 원인을 규명하고자 하는 것이다. 본 연구의 대상은 한국어와 영어를 동시에 습득하는 어린이이며, 연구방법은 종단연구를 사용하였으며, 한국어의 후치부정어 발달을 5세에서 7세 사이의 2년에 걸쳐 연구하였다. 전체적으로 R 의 후치부정어의 습득은 습득환경의 영향으로 속도에 차이가 있으며 한국어만 습득하는 어린이와 비슷한 발달모습을 보이지만 다른 발달모습도 나타내는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구 결과는 R이 호주에 살고 있는 동안에는 모국어와 제2언어 학습메커니즘 두 기능 모두를 사용한다는 것을 보여 주고, 그 반면에 한국에 살고 있는 동안에는 모국어 학습메커니즘 만을 사용한다는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 이러한 결과는 모국어와 제2언어 학습메커니즘이 기본적으로는 서로 다르지 않다는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 왜냐하면 한 어린이가 서로 다른 두 언어 환경에 따라 발달 과정이 퇴보하였다 진보하였다 하는 특성을 보여 주기 때문이다.

감꼭지나방 (나비목: 감꼭지나방과)의 발육생태 (Developmental Ecology of Persimmon Fruit Moth, Stathmopoda masinissa Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Stathmopodidae))

  • 충북 영동의 감나무 가로수에서 감꼭지나방(Stathmopodamasinissa)을 태집하여 온도 $25\pm$$1^{\circ}C$, 광주기 16L:8D,상대습도 85%의 실내조건에서 이들의 발육생태를 조사하였다. 각 충태 별 발육일수는 알기간 7.4일, 유충기간 34.8일, 번데기기간이 15.5일이었다. 1령에서 5령의 영기간 은 각각 3.5일, 4.2일, 5.2일, 6.5일, 15.4일이었으며, 유충의 두폭은 각각 0.20, 0.40, 0.65, 0.87, 1.07mm이었다. 용화율과 우화율은 각각 68.0%, 59.9%이었다. 성충 수명은 수컷이 6.2일, 암컷이 10.1일이며, 암컷 한마리당 평균 산란수는 24.4개였다.

Anti-Mullerian Hormone Serum Concentrations in Prenatal and Postnatal Period in Murine

  • Mullerian inhibiting substance (MIS) is a member of the TGF-${\beta}$ (transforming growth factor-${\beta}$) family whose members play key roles in development, suppression of tumour growth, and feedback control of the pituitary-gonadal hormone axis. MIS is expressed in a highly tissue-specific manner in which it is restricted to male Sertoli cells and female granulose cells. The serum levels of MIS in prenatal and postnatal ICR mice were measured using the enzyme-linked immuno-solvent assay (ELISA) using the MIS/AMH antibody. Mice were grouped by age: the significant periods were at the onset of development. During sex organ differentiation, no remarkable difference between female and male foetus MIS serum levels (both<0.1 ng/ml) was observed. However, MIS serum levels in pregnant mice markedly changed (4.5~12.2 ng/ml). After birth, postnatal female and male mice serum MIS levels changed considerably (male: <0.1~138.5 ng/ml, female: 5.3~103.4 ng/ml), and the changing phase were diametrically opposed (male: decreasing, female: fluctuating). These findings suggest that MIS may have strong associations with not only develop-ment but also puberty. For further studies, establishing the standard MIS serum levels is of importance. Our study provides the basic information for the study of MIS interactions with reproductive organ disability, cancer, and the effect of other hormone or menopause. We hypothesise that if MIS is regularly injected into middle-age women, meno-pause will be delayed. We detected that serum MIS concentration curves change with age. The changing phase is different between males and females, and this difference is significant after birth. Moreover, MIS mRNA is expressed during the developmental period (prenatal) and also in the postnatal period. This finding indicates that MIS may play a significant role in the developmental stage and in growth after birth.

Difference of Developmental Time, Survival Rate and Sex Ratio of Dichocrocis punctiferalis (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) on Three Hosts

  • The experiments were conducted by supplying hosts with natural food(chestnut, peach, Quince). The developmental difference of peach pyralid moth, Dichocrocis punctiferalis was examined in the laboratory under three different natural food regime. The periods of egg, larva and pupa were $6.01{\pm}0.07$, $12.23{\pm}0.03$ and $13.32{\pm}0.01$ days on the chestnut fruit, $6.21{\pm}0.01$, $18.69{\pm}0.02$ and $13.38{\pm}0.03$ days on the peach fruit and $7.02{\pm}0.04$, $22.62{\pm}0.04$ and $13.44{\pm}0.14$ days on the quince fruit, respectively. The growth of D. punctiferalis larva was better chestnut fruit than other tested fruits. The rates(%) of hatching, pupation and emergence were 94.0, 57.0 and 63.3 on the chestnut fruit, 89.2, 77.8 and 85.7 on the peach fruit and 79.6, 52.6 and 70.7 on the quince fruit, respectively. The survival rate(%) of D. punctiferalis from hatching to emergence were 31.0 on the chestnut fruit, 4.8 on the peach fruit and 14.3 on the quince fruit, respectively. The sex ratio (female: male) of all pupae obtained on the tested natural food fruits were 52.7 : 47.3. The sex ratio of D. punctiferalis reared on three difference food fruits were no significantly. It can be used a as the basic research for the study of D. punctiferalis.

자폐증 아동에 있어서 Carbamazepine의 치료효과 평가 (EVALUATION OF THE THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS OF CARBAMAZEPINE IN AUTISTIC CHILDREN)

  • 자폐증의 임상증상 완화에 대한 Carbamazepine의 효과를 평가하기 위하여 위약으로 대조한 이중맹(placebo controlled double blind) 연구를 실시하였다. 연구대상 아동은 1989년 10월부터 1991년 11월까지 서울대학병원 어린이병원 소아정신과 외래를 방문한, DSM-III-R의 전반적 발달장애의 진단기준을 만족시키면서, 부모가 연구에 동의한 23명의 남아로 하였다. 또한 다른 내과적 혹은 정신과적 질환력을 갖지 않으며, 연구 시작전 적어도 2개월이상의 약물복용이 없는 기간을 갖도록 하였다. 연구 대상군의 Cabamazepine치료군과 위약군으로 할당을 무작위적 할당표에 의해 할당하였는데, 각각 12명, 11명이 해당되었다. 연구 대상 아동의 상태를 모르는(blind) 2명의 평가자에 의하여, 기초관찰 기간과 12주의 약물치료 기간후에 측정한 검사도구의 측정값의 변화와 약물에 대한 부작용을 보았다. 두 검사자간의 신뢰도는 .4875-.6613이었다. 기초 관찰기간시 두군사이의 사회 인구학적 변인 및 검사도구의 값은 유의한 차이가 없었다. 약물 치료 기간 종결시 측정한 검사도구의 값과 기초 관찰기간의 값을 비교한 결과, Autism Behavior Checklist상 전체 점수의 유의한 차이(P<.05), 즉 Carbamazepine치료군이 위약군보다 자폐증 증상의 완화정도가 큰 소견을 보였다. Vineland Social Maturation Scale에서는 두군 모두에서 약물 치료 기간동안 사회성숙도상의 발달이 유의한 정도(P<.005)로 있었다.
