Study on Standstill Conditions in Kaizen Activity: Through Case Studies of Two Companies in their Long-Term Efforts

  • Multiple prior studies stress that continued Kaizen activity is conducive to building and maintaining competitive advantages of manufacturing companies. Meanwhile, it remains unclear as to what kind of management factors may exert impact on sustainment of Kaizen activity. This paper discusses a study conducted on the cases of two manufacturing lines, where such activity has been continued for more than ten years. At first, it was discovered that study period was divided into different periods. It was also found out that 'standstill conditions' which prevent smooth progress of activity exist in many periods, and that such conditions are hard to avoid. The study went on to categorize progress of activity in each period into different patterns, including at which points standstill conditions occurred, thereby, circumstances of standstill conditions were made clear. This paper verified a detailed process of Kaizen activity development in each period and the relationship between that detailed process and points of occurrence of standstill conditions. Thought was also given to factors and actions for smooth development, and effects brought about by overcoming such challenges. Lastly, consideration was given to the future perspectives of the study for elucidating how better Kaizen activity may be managed for continuation.

  • 충북지역은 지역 내 총생산의 이윤부문이 외부로 유출되고 있으므로 기반산업의 육성이 필요한데 이를 위해 주력 제조업은 주 업종으로 석유화학, 반도체 업종을, 부차적인 업종은 자동차 산업으로 하고 이들 업종에 디지털 산업을 결합시켜 고부가가치의 차세대 산업동력으로 발전시켜 나가야 할 것이다. 그리고 충북지역의 지식기반 서비스업인 교육 서비스와 보건복지 및 연구개발 서비스업은 정밀화학, 생물산업의 주 업종과 부차적인 정밀기기 업종의 지원사업으로 이들 기업간의 네트워크를 형성하고 교육기관과 연계하여 지역혁신체제를 구축하여야 할 것이다.

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the world countries into several cluste on the basis of the characteristics of the scientific and technological development, and analyse the main factors of development in each cluster. Major contributions of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) In the process of producing the composite indicators, individual indicators were adopted only if they met the condition which were logically compliable for the given time periods. Hence this thesis supports the reliability in comparing results of analysis in each period of years. (2) Could clearly capture the development characteristics and its changing process in each country.

난자성숙시간에 따른 처녀발생유기 돼지난자의 초기발생 (Early Development of Parthenogenetically Activated Porcine Oocyte after In Vitro Maturation for Various Periods)

  • In vitro development of parthenogenetic embryo was examined after ethanol treatment of follicular oocytes matured in vitro for 42, 48, 54 and 60h in the pig. The follicular oocytes were matured in TCM 199 containing 15% FCS and gonadotrophins in an atmosphere of 39 $^{\circ}C$ 5% $CO_2$. The cumulus-free oocytes were activated by 10% ethanol treatment in M2+4mg /ml BSA for 10 min. The ethanol-activated oocytes were washed and further cultured in TCM199+20%FCS containing granulosa cell monolayer. Maturation rates at 42, 48, 54 and 60h of IVM were 75.0, 86.5, 81.6 and 87.9%, respectively. Thus the oocytes maturated in vitro for longer periods did not improve nuclear maturation much. Pronuclear formation rates at 18h post-activation in ethanol-activated oocytes were 21.9, 25.0, 47.4 and 32.6%. The cytoplasmic maturation leading to pronuclear formation upon activation increased when the I VM period was extended from 42 to 54h. When the activated oocytes were cultured for 96~120h to analyse early development of the activated oocytes, the rates of embryonic development upto $\leq$ 5~8 cell were 5.3, 5.8, 12.0 and 11.7% among the cultured embryos. The result indicate that earlier development of activated porcine occyte is dependent on the duration of oocyte maturation, and that better development could be obtained from the oocyte matured for 54h.

Effects of Lactic Acid Bacteria Inoculants on Fermentation of Low Moisture Fresh Rice Straw Silage at Different Storage Periods

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of different storage periods of lactic acid bacteria (LAB)-fermented low moisture fresh rice straw silage. The low moisture fresh rice straw sample was inculcated with LAB and stored for different storage periods such as 45, 90, and 365 days, respectively. The low moisture fresh rice straw (LMFRS) silage inoculated with LAB exhibited reduction in pH throughout the fermentation as compared with the control (P<0.05). The lactic acid content was increased at the late fermentation period (90 and 365 days, respectively) in LAB inoculated LMFRS silage as compared with the control (P<0.05). In contrast, the acetic acid and butyric acid concentrations were slightly reduced in the LAB inoculated LMFRS silage sample at 90 and 365 days fermentation, respectively. Meanwhile, the non-inoculated LMFRS silage showed higher amounts of acetic acid and butyric acid at an extended fermentation with low bacterial population as compared with the LAB inoculated LMFRS silage. However, lactic acid concentration was slightly high in the non-inoculated LMFRS silage at early 45 days fermentation. Additionally, the nutrient profile such as crude protein (CP), acid detergent fibre (ADF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), and total digestibility nutrients (TDN) were not significantly different in control and LAB inculcated samples during all fermentation. Though, the microbial population was greater in the LAB inoculated LMFRS silage as compared with the control. However, the massive population was noted in the LAB inoculated LMFRS silage during all fermentation. It indicates that the inoculated LAB is the main reason for increasing fermentation quality in the sample through pH reduction by organic acids production. Overall results suggest that the LAB inoculums are the effective strain that could be a suitable for LMFRS silage fermentation at prolonged days.

Effects of In Vitro Fertilization Conditions of In Vitro Matured Cumulus-Intact Pig Oocytes on Embryo Development

  • In this study, we examined the effectiveness of in vitro fertilization of porcine immature oocytes on the embryo development of blastocysts or hatched blastocysts and the number of cells according to the in vitro fertilization conditions. In the in vitro fertilization of in vitro matured porcine oocytes, there were no significant differences between treatment groups regarding fertilization rate, blastocyst rate, and embryo development of hatched blastocysts according to the storage periods of liquid sperm of 24, 48, and 72 hours. The embryo development rate of hatched blastocysts after the fertilization according to different spermatozoa concentrations ($0.4{\times}10^5$, $1.2{\times}10^5$, and $3.6{\times}10^5$ cells/ml) showed the highest rate in the group with a spermatozoa concentration of $1.2{\times}10^5$ cells/ml; in particular, this rate was significantly higher than that in the $0.4{\times}10^5$ cells/ml group (p<0.05). The total number of blastocysts cells as well as trophectoderms (TE) that developed in each treatment group were also significantly higher in the $1.2{\times}10^5$ cells/ml group than in any other groups (p<0.05). In contrast, the embryo development rate of blastocysts according to different co-incubation periods of sperm and oocyte (1, 3, and 6 hr) was high in the 6-hour group; in particular, the rate was significantly higher than that of the I-hour group (p<0.05). Furthermore, the total number of oocytes cells and TEs that developed was significantly higher in the 6-hour group than any other group (p<0.05). In this study, the most effective treatment conditions for porcine embryo development and high cell number were found to be as follows: a sperm storage period of less than 72 hours, a spermatozoa concentration of $1.2{\times}10^5$ cells/ml, and a 6-hour co-incubation period for sperm and ooocyte.

자연산 문치가자미 (Limanda yokohamae)의 난소 발달에 따른 혈중 성호르몬과 난황단백전구체 농도 변동 (Plasma Sex Steroid Hormone and Vitellogenin Profiles during Ovarian Development of the Wild Marbled Sole (Limanda yokohamae))

  • This study correlated changes in estradiol-l7$\beta$ ($E_2$), testosterone (T), 17$\alpha$,20-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (DHP), and vitellogenin (VTG) levels with changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and ovarian histology during the annual reproductive cycle of the wild marbled sole, Limanda yokohamae. Synchronous oocyte development occurs in this fish. Ovary maturity was classified into four periods, based on histological observations: the spawning (December to February), post-spawning (February to April), recovery (May to August), and vitellogenic (September to November) periods. Seasonal changes in the GSI were inversely correlated with water temperatures and reflected the degree of ovarian maturity. Plasma VTG levels were correlated with changes in the GSI, which increased from September to a peak in January, and levels remained comparatively high until February. Estradiol-17$\beta$ was at baseline levels (<0.11 ng/mL) during the spring and summer, and peaked rapidly (1.55$\pm$0.445 ng/mL) from October to January. Plasma T and DHP levels had a similar profile; they rose markedly during the spawning period and remained low (or were not detectable) from spring through autumn. These data indicate that changes in plsama steroid hormones and VTG levels are correlated with the annual ovarian activity of the marbled sole. Based on these results and published reports, it appears that in this species DHP is the most important maturation-inducing steroid and that T is also related to final maturation.

꼬마배나무이(Cacopsylla pyricola(Foerster)) 발생소장 및 온도별 발육기간 (Population Trends and temperature-Dependent Development of Pear Psylla, Cacopsylla pyricola(Foerster) (Homoptera: Psyllidae))

  • 지금까지 우리 나라에서 배를 가해하는 나무이과(Psyllidae) 해충은 배나무이(Cacoosylla pyrisuga)와 꼬마배나무이(C. pyricola) 두 종으로 알려져 있었으나, 정확한 생태가 아직 밝혀지지 않았다. 본 연구는 꼬마배나무이의 생태를 구명하여 방제기초 자료를 마련하고자 월동생태 및 발생소장, 온도발육 실험 등을 수행하였다. 꼬마배나무이는 겨울형 성충태로 배나무 거친 껍질 밑에서 월동하였으며, 월동성충은 2월 중순경부터 활동을 시작하였다. 성충과 약충이 배나무 잎이나 과실을 흡즙하면서 그을음병을 유발시켜 피해가 발생하였다. 꼬마배나무이의 포장발생 정도는 이상저온이었던 1993년에는 연중 다발생되었고, 한발고온이었던 1994년에는 7월 이후 발생이 급격히 감소하였으며, 기온이 평년수준이었던 1995년에는 7~8월에 발생이 감소하는 경향이었으나 9, 10월 발생이 다시 증가하는 특성을 보였다. 꼬마배나무이 알의 온도별 발육기간은 15, 20, 25, 30, $35^{\circ}C$에거 각각 13.33, 9.32, 7.82, 6.60, 7.75일 이었으며, 1영에서 5영까지 온도별 발육기간은 15, 20, 25, $30^{\circ}C$에서 각각 33.75, 23.77, 15.21, 17.40일 이었다. 고온영역에서 꼬마배나무이의 발육기간은 증가하였고 사망률도 증가하였다. 또한 온도와 꼬마배나무이 발육율과의 관계를 비서형 발육모형과 선형발육모형을 통하여 검토하였다.

온도별 구리금파리(Lucilia sericata)의 발육 (Development of the Greenbottle Blowfly, Lucilia sericata, under Different Temperatures)

  • Maggot therapy는 1900년대 초부터 압박성 욕창, 당뇨나 괴사에 의한 궤양, 수술 후 감염된 상처, 화상 등의 상처치료에 다시 사용되기 시작하였다. 환부에 처리할 적절한 발육단계의 무균유충을 생산하고, 증식 보존용 계통을 유지하는 데 필요한 자료를 얻기 위하여 온도별(15.4, 20.6, 22.5, 26.2, 29.1, $33.0^{\circ}C$) 발육실험을 수행하였다. 간배지(liver agar medium)에서 알기간과 1령 및 2령 기간은 $33.0^{\circ}C$에서 각각 9.0시간, 14.0시간, 18.6시간으로 가장 짧았다. 3령 기간과 번데기 기간은 $29.1^{\circ}C$에서 각각 285.0시간과 171.0시간으로 가장 짧았다. 온도별 발육기간을 기초로 각 발육단계의 발육영점온도와 유효적산온도를 산출하였다. 암수 성충은 대개 1개월 이상 생존하였고, 암컷은 일평생 2.7회 산란하였으며, 총 338.5개의 알을 낳았다.

가열 시간과 고명에 따른 토란병의 품질특성 (Quality Characteristics of Toranbyung with Different Boiling Periods and Types of Gomyeong)

  • 본 연구에서는 수문사설 에 수록된 토란병의 제조방법을 확립하기 위하여 토란의 가열 시간 및 고명에 따라 토란병을 제조하고, 품질특성을 비교 분석하였다. 가열 시간에 따른 수분, 조단백질, 조지방 및 조회분 함량은 각각 83.42~84.61%, 1.25~1.31%, 0.08~0.11%, 0.62~0.81% 범위로 조지방은 유의적인 차이가 없었으며, 조회분은 가열처리로 인해 유의적으로 감소하였다. 토란의 주요 유리당은 fructose, glucose 및 sucrose가 검출되었고, 가열 시간에 따라 각각 0.17~0.33%, 0.16~0.29% 및 0.26~0.38% 범위로 15분 가열처리 때까지 유의적으로 감소하였다. 경도 역시 가열 시간이 늘어날수록 2.75 kg에서 0.14 kg까지 감소하였다. 가열 시간에 따른 관능특성을 평가한 결과, 향과 맛은 각 처리구간 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았고, 질감과 전반적인 기호도는 5분 처리구가 다른 처리구에 비해 유의적으로 낮게 평가되었으며, 10분 처리 이후에는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이상의 결과, 토란병의 제조 시 가열 시간은 10분이 바람직할 것으로 판단된다. 잣고물, 콩고물, 검은 깨고물 및 밤고물 등 고명 종류에 따른 토란병의 관능특성을 평가한 결과, 색, 향, 질감, 맛 및 전반적인 기호도는 각각 5.20~7.50, 5.40~7.70, 6.10~7.00, 6.10~7.20 및 6.20~7.60 범위로 평가되었고, 콩고물을 묻힌 토란병이 모든 항목에서 가장 높게 평가되었다.
