  • This study surveys 212 accounting information systems (AIS) of 85 manufacturing firms by using the research model based on the management process of AIS to figure out the current status and problems of the computing environment and AIS of Korean firms. The analysis of the current status leads to the suggestions to promote the utilization and efficiency of AIS. The level of experiences and education of information system (IS) personnel turns out to be still low. More education is needed to upgrade the IS personnel. AIS users lack in the computer knowledge. The users need more computer education. The analysis on the computerization and information characteristics of the AIS subsystems shows that the computerization is well established in the financial accounting area. On the other hand, the computerization for managerial accounting areas is in its early stage. The managerial accounting systems need be developed to support the managerial decision making effectively. The majority of firms develop the AIS by their own IS teams. When firms use the consulting services in developing AIS, they prefer accounting firms. The majority of firms fail to evaluate the AIS because the evaluation tools are not available. Most firms do not perform the auditing for AIS. It is needed to develop the tool and techniques for evalauation and auditing AIS.

  • This paper focused on developing and empirically testing an EAM(Electronic-Store Acceptance Model), By basing upon Davis' TAM(Technology Acceptance Model) and reflecting the characteristics of EC(Electronic Commerce), the EAM was proposed. This EAM could be regarded as a revised and extended TAM in the EC area. The theoretical rationale of this model was as following: 1) Though Davis' TAM was proposed a powerful tool to explain and predict usage of Information Technology, nowadays, TAM variables(perceived usefulness and ease of use) are posited as key drivers of e-commerce acceptance. 2) In the e-commerce and e-business studies, trust has been emerging as a potentially important antecedent of IT adoption. A famous internet book store was chosen to empirically test the EAM. In order to evaluate reliability and validity of instrument, and validate the research model, SEM(Structured equation model) analysis was conducted. The results showed that perceived usefulness and trust significantly influenced e-Store Acceptance but perceived ease of use did not have significant influence on e-Store Acceptance.

  • The objectives of the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) are to organize international cooperation in medical physics, to contribute to the advancement of medical physics in all its aspects, especially in developing countries; and to encourage and advise on the formation of national organizations of medical physics in those countries that lack such organizations. The objectives of the Asian-Oceania Federation of Medical Physics (AFOMP) are to advance medical physics in our geographic region, especially in those countries that do not yet have national organizations of medical physics. We must focus on the development of AFOMP in science, professional relations, education and training in our geographic areas and to seek funding and support from the IOMP for these activities. Since its formation in 2000, the Asian-Oceania Federation of Medical Physics (AFOMP) has been participating actively in IOMP. Our goal now should be to gain more influence by placing members on various committees of IOMP as well as preparing members for leadership roles at the upper levels. AFOMP is already on the world map of medical physics with the upcoming two world congresses - Sydney and Seoul.

  • The establishment of the WTO system means that the global age of trade has officially arrived. Since the integration of the world economy brings about the free movement of goods and services between nations, it is inevitable that sea-bound freight will continue to increase. A recent World Bank report says that China and Korea will be the first and seventh largest economic Powers, respectively, by the year 2020. In particular, the Korea peninsula has a geo-political advantage in being developed as a major Northeast Asian container center. Moreover China's swift uprising needs new order of trade for economy belt in Northeast Asia. Therefore, it can be said that Kunsan Port. which has already been designated as a free trade zone, has greater potential to rise as a regional beach-head port and main region for foreign investment. As such. Kunsan Port will play a major role in accelerating the emergence of the West Sea in international trade. There are several strategies for developing Kunsan Port into a central container port: 1) develop Kunsan port Into an import/export front base f3r multinational corporations, 2) develop Kunsan container port into the core composite container-linked central port, 3) attract foreign investment to the Kunsan Free Trade Area so as to promote balanced development among the regions of Korea, 4) support the central government and local governments to accelerate the coming of the "West Sea Era." These recommendations call for urgent implementation.

  • This study is to develop an information security management model(ISMM) for small and medium sized enterprises(SMEs). Based on extensive literature review, a five-pillar twelve-component reference ISMM is developed. The five pillars of SME's information security are: centralized decision making, ease of management, flexibility, agility and expandability. Twelve components are: scope & organization, security policy, resource assessment, risk assessment, implementation planning, control development, awareness training, monitoring, change management, auditing, maintenance and accident management. Subsequent survey designed and administered to expose experts' perception on the importance of these twelve components revealed that five out of tweleve components require relatively immediate attention than others, especially in SME's context. These five components are: scope and organization, resource assessment, auditing, change management, and incident management. Other seven components are policy, risk assessment, implementation planning, control development, awareness training, monitoring, and maintenance. It seems that resource limitation of SMEs directs their attention to ISMM activities that may not require a lot of resources. On the basis of these findings, a three-phase approach is developed and proposed here as an SME ISMM. Three phases are (1) foundation and promotion, (2) management and expansion, and (3) maturity. Implications of the model are discussed and suggestions are made for further research.

  • Purpose: This literature review was conducted to provide a summary of the findings from research on knowledge and attitudes about human papilloma virus (HPV) and HPV vaccination, and studies of its actual uptake among women in Asian countries. Methods: The author searched the Pubmed, CINAHL, and KISS electronic databases to identify peer-reviewed articles published between 2006 and 2011. Results: Seventeen peer-reviewed studies met the inclusion criteria (13 quantitative, 4 qualitative). Findings from seven Asian countries that measured female adult's knowledge of HPV related issues and attitudes toward HPV vaccination were reviewed. Low level of knowledge about HPV and its related conditions, willingness to be vaccinated, and low uptake of vaccines were identified across the studies. Cultural barriers and social stigmatization about HPV vaccination were also discussed. Conclusion: Findings from this review indicate that adult women in Asian countries are in urgent need of improving HPV related knowledge and its actual vaccination. Policy makers, health care providers, and public health educators should take into account the cultural barriers and attitudes toward HPV vaccination in the process of developing and implementing educational programs and interventions for adult women in Asian countries.

  • This study provides the empirical testing to test the influences of contemporary leadership styles (i.e., transactional and transformational) on job satisfaction and customer satisfaction as the mediating variable between job satisfaction and customer loyalty. The approach utilized in this study was a quantitative research design using a survey model. The participants of this study were recruited from 160 front-liners in the airline's industry in Indonesia. This study employed 160 front liners (flight attendants, reservation/ticketing, and check-in-counter officers) who worked in Branch Office/General Sales Agent of Indonesian commercial airlines. The studied airlines serve domestic routes based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Furthermore, the data were examined the four developed hypotheses by using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The primary results are: First, in the context of job satisfaction, both leadership styles (i.e., transactional and transformational) have similar influences; Second, job satisfaction affects customer satisfaction positively and significant, Third, customer loyalty is driven by passengers' satisfaction when they are utilizing the airline services. The findings imply that the working-role encouragement is essential to maximize the productivity of front-liners to serve their customer well. This research supports on developing the general knowledge based on leadership styles in the context of the airline's industry in managing the human resources strategically.

  • Inonotus obliquus is a fungus that causes white heart rot on several broad-leaved species. This fungus forms typical charcoal-black, sterile conks (chaga) or cinder conks on infected stems of the birche (Betula spp). The dark brown pulp of the sterile conk is formed by a pure mycelial mass of fungus. Chaga are a folk remedy in Russia, reflecting the circumboreal distribution of I. obliquus in boreal forest ecosystems on Betula spp. and in meridional mountain forests on beech (Fagus spp.) in Russia, Scandinavia, Central Europe, and Eastern Europe. Distribution at lower latitudes in Western and Southern Europe, Northern America, Asia, Japan, and Korea is rare. Infected trees grow for many years without several symptoms of decline. The infection can penetrate through stem injuries with exterior sterile conks developing later. In the Czech Republic, cinder conk is found on birches inhabiting peat bogs and in mountain areas with a colder and more humid climate, although it is widespread in other broad leaved species over the Czech Republic. The most common hosts are B. pendula, B. pubescens, B. carpatica, and F. sylvatica. Less frequent hosts include Acer campestre, Acer pseudoplatanus, Alnus glutinosa, Alnus incana, Fraxinus excelsior, Quercus cerris, Q. petraea, Q. robur, Q. delachampii, and Ulmus sp.

  • Undoubtedly, the basic sinking fund formula gives the future value of a series of equal installments. The main underlying assumption for using this formula is that installment and compounding frequency must be in equal interval. But when installment for a deposit scheme or any other savings scheme and compounding frequency do not occur in an equal interval, which is treated as the complex annuity problems in Finance Literature, the basic sinking fund formula does not give the accurate result. As a result, the obtainable amount from different deposit schemes offered by different banks and financial institutions does not match with the amount of future value calculated through the basic sinking fund formula by the investors or savers. This study focuses the concealed facts for such type of mismatches in values and at the same time it provides a solution through developing a new formula by extending the basic formula intended not only to remove those mismatches but also get the accurate future value from a sinking fund provision in case of complex annuity. Besides, since banks and financial institutions calculate the interest on the average amount of equal installments deposited within a period of time due to complex annuity, the study also formulates an arithmetic formula for calculating the average amount of installment.
