Portable Gait-Event Detection System for FES Locomotion (FES 보행을 위한 휴대용 보행 이벤트 검출 시스템)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a portable gait-event detection system which is necessary for the cycle-to-cycle FES(functional electrical stimulation) control of locomotion. To make the system portable, we made following modifications in the gait signal measurement system. That is, 1) to make the system wireless using Bluetooth communication, 2) to make the system small-sized and battery-powered by using low power consumption ${\mu}$ P(ATmega8535L). The gait-events were analyzed in off-line at the main computer using ANN(Artificial Neural Network). The Proposed system showed no mis-detection of the gait-events of normal subject and hemiplegia subjects. The performance of the system was better than the previous wired-system.

An image enhancement-based License plate detection method for Naturally Degraded Images

  • This paper proposes an image enhancement-based license plate detection algorithm to improve the overall performance of system. Non-uniform illumination conditions have huge impact on overall plate detection system accuracy. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for color image enhancement-based license plate detection for improving accuracy of images degraded by excessively strong and low sunlight. Firstly, the image is enhanced by Multi-Scale Retinex algorithm. Secondly, a plate detection method is employed to take advantage of geometric properties of connected components, which can significantly reduce the undesired plate regions. Finally, intersection over union method is applied for detecting the accurate location of number plate. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improves the accuracy of plate detection system.

  • Video Image Processing (VIP) for traffic surveillance has been used not only to gather traffic information, but also to detect traffic conflicts and incident conditions. This paper presents a system development of gathering traffic information and conflict detection based on automatic calculation of pixel length within the detection zone on a Video Detection System (VDS). This algorithm improves the accuracy of traffic information using the automatic detailed line segmentsin the detection zone. This system also can be applied for all types of intersections. The experiments have been conducted with CCTV images, installed at a Bundang intersection, and verified through comparison with a commercial VDS product.

  • Conventional cyber-attack detection solutions are generally based on signature-based or malicious behavior analysis so that have had difficulty in detecting unknown method-based attacks. Since the various information occurring all the time reflects the state of the system, by modeling it in a steady state and detecting an abnormal state, an unknown attack can be detected. Since a variety of system information occurs in a string form, word embedding, ie, techniques for converting strings into vectors preserving their order and semantics, can be used for modeling and detection. Novelty Detection, which is a technique for detecting a small number of abnormal data in a plurality of normal data, can be performed in order to detect an abnormal condition. This paper proposes a method to detect system anomaly by cyber attack using embedding and novelty detection.

  • This paper proposes an intrusion detection system for in-vehicle network to improve detection performance considering attack counts and attack types. In intrusion detection system, both FNR (False Negative Rate), where intrusion frame is misjudged as normal frame, and FPR (False Positive Rate), where normal frame is misjudged as intrusion frame, seriously affect vechicle safety. This paper proposes a novel intrusion detection algorithm to improve both FNR and FPR, where data frame previously detected as intrusion above certain attack counts is automatically detected as intrusion and the automatic intrusion detection method is adaptively applied according to attack types. From the simulation results, the propsoed method effectively improve both FNR and FPR in DoS(Denial of Service) attack and spoofing attack.

  • In this paper, we proposed and developed a fast and efficient real time face detection and recognition which can be run on embedded system instead of high performance desktop. In the face detection process, we detect a face by finding eye part which is one of the most salient facial features after applying various image processing methods, then in the face recognition, we finally recognize the face by comparing the current face with the prepared face database using a template matching algorithm. Also we optimized the algorithm in our system to be successfully used in the embedded system, and performed the face detection and recognition experiments on the embedded board to verify the performance. The developed method can be applied to automatic door, mobile computing environment and various robot.

  • Dental caries has been widely prevalent with presence of cavitation on teeth. For the last several decades, the prevalence of dental caries in developed countries has rapidly decreased so there has been needed a new and detailed diagnostic guideline to differentiate the severity of dental caries, especially for early status of caries. The cariology specifically requires the development of an integrated definition of dental caries and uniform systems for measuring the caries process in the fields of clinical diagnosis and treatment, epidemiological researches, and dental education and so forth. The international Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) optically measures the enamel surface changes and potential histological depth of carious lesions by relying on surface characteristics of teeth. ICDAS is a visual classification system that was developed to diagnose the subtle changes of enamel surface, predict the progress direction of early caries, allow standardized data collection in relation to caries in different settings, and to enable better comparison of oral health between countries worldwide and research studies.

  • This paper proposes a portable cable fault detection system with automatic fault distinction and distance measurement using time-frequency correlation and reference signal elimination method and automatic fault classification algorithm in order to have more accurate fault determination and location detection than conventional time domain refelectometry (TDR) system despite increased signal attenuation due to the long distance to cable fault location. The performance of the developed system method was validated via an experiment in the test field constructed for the standardized performance test of power cable fault location equipments. The performance evaluation showed that accuracy of the developed system is less than 1.34%. Also, an error of automatic fault type and location by detection of phase and peak value through elimination of the reference signal and normalization of correlation coefficient and automatic fault classification algorithm not occurred.

  • If a disaster occurs in the underground like subway, disaster response system should minimize the casualties. It must quickly guide passengers to a safe evacuation route. But sometimes the system does not work properly. And then they need distributed disaster response system which make decision autonomously. We perform conceptual research about distributed autonomous decision-making disaster detection and response system and disaster detection method.

  • The detection of engine misfire events is one of major concerns in engine control due to its negative effect on air pollution and engine performance. In this paper, a misfire detection system based on crankshaft angular speed fluctuation is developed. Synthetic variable method is adopted for the preprocessing of crankshaft angular speed. This method successfully estimates the work output of each cylinder by finding the effect of combustion energy on the crankshaft rotational speed or acceleration after virtually removing the effect of the internal inertia forces from the measured crankshaft speed signals. The detection system is developed using neural network with the revised synthetic angular acceleration as input which is derived from the preprocessing. Mathematical simulation is carried out for developing and verifying the misfire detection system. Finally, the reliability of the developed system is validated through an experiment.
