In this paper, a vision-based roadway detection algorithm for an automated vehicle control system, based on roadway sign information on roads, is proposed. First, in order to detect roadway signs, the color scene image is enhanced under hue-invariance. Fuzzy logic is employed to simplify the enhanced color image into a binary image and the binary image is morphologically filtered. Then, an effective algorithm of locating signs based on binary rank order transform (BROT) is utilized to extract signs from the image. This algorithm performs better than those previously presented. Finally, the inner shapes of roadway signs with curving roadway direction information are recognized by neural networks. Experimental results show that the new detection algorithm is simple and robust, and performs well on real sign detection. The results also show that the neural networks used can exactly recognize the inner shapes of signs even for very noisy shapes.
In this paper, the Viterbi decoder containing new branch metrics of the squared Euclidean distance with multiple order phase differences is introduced in order to improve the bit error rate (BER) in the differential detection of the trellis-coded MDPSK-OFDM. The proposed Viterbi decoder is conceptually same as the multiple Phase differential detection method that uses the branch metric with multiple phase differences. Also, we describe the Viterbi algorithm in order to use this branch metrics. Our study shows that such a Viterbi decoder improves BER performance without sacrificing bandwidth and power efficiency. Also, the proposed algorithm can be used in the single carrier modulation.
In order to minimize casualties from marine vessel accidents that occur frequently at home and abroad, it is important to ensure the safety of the passengers aboard the vessel in the event of an accident. There is an EPIRB system as a system for disaster preparedness in the marine situation currently on the market, but there is a problem that the price is very expensive. In order to overcome the cost problem, which is a disadvantage of previous system, LoRaWAN-based communication is used. LoRaWAN communication-based vessel positioning and risk detection system based on LoRaWAN communication transmits measurement data of each module using two Beacon and GPS modules to stably perform position measurement for both indoor and outdoor situations. The rider danger situation detection system can detect the safety status of the rider using the 3-axis acceleration sensor, collect data from the rider positioning system and the rider safety status detection system, and send to server using LoRa communication. When conducting communication experiments in the long-distance maritime situation and actual communication experiments using the implemented system, it was found that the two experiments showed over 90% communication success rate on average.
Although the object detection accuracy with still images has been significantly improved with the advance of deep learning techniques, the object detection problem with video data remains as a challenging problem due to the real-time requirement and accuracy drop with occlusion. In this research, we propose a method in pig detection for video monitoring environment. First, we determine a motion, from a video data obtained from a tilted-down-view camera, based on the average size of each pig at each location with the training data, and extract key frames based on the motion information. For each key frame, we then apply YOLO, which is known to have a superior trade-off between accuracy and execution speed among many deep learning-based object detectors, in order to get pig's bounding boxes. Finally, we merge the bounding boxes between consecutive key frames in order to reduce false positive and negative cases. Based on the experiment results with a video data set obtained from a pig farm, we confirmed that the pigs could be detected with an accuracy of 97% at a processing speed of 37fps.

In order to efficiently detect community structure in complex networks, community detection algorithms can be designed from the perspective of node similarity. However, the appropriate parameters should be chosen to achieve community division, furthermore, these existing algorithms based on the similarity of common neighbors have low discrimination between node pairs. To solve the above problems, a noval community detection algorithm using closeness similarity based on common neighbor node clustering entropy is proposed, shorted as CSCDA. Firstly, to improve detection accuracy, common neighbors and clustering coefficient are combined in the form of entropy, then a new closeness similarity measure is proposed. Through the designed similarity measure, the closeness similar node set of each node can be further accurately identified. Secondly, to reduce the randomness of the community detection result, based on the closeness similar node set, the node leadership is used to determine the most closeness similar first-order neighbor node for merging to create the initial communities. Thirdly, for the difficult problem of parameter selection in existing algorithms, the merging of two levels is used to iteratively detect the final communities with the idea of modularity optimization. Finally, experiments show that the normalized mutual information values are increased by an average of 8.06% and 5.94% on two scales of synthetic networks and real-world networks with real communities, and modularity is increased by an average of 0.80% on the real-world networks without real communities.
We investigate both of central and dispersion tendencies of the observed test statistics in control charts in order to judge whether a production process is abnormal or not. In order to do it, first, we study about detection of changes of the population mean as a central tendency The $\bar{x}$ and x control charts are used for detecting the change of the population mean $\mu$. We shows the probability detecting the change of population mean using the $\bar{x}$ and x control charts. Secondly, we study about detection of changes of the population standard deviation as a dispersion tendency in the s control chart. In our studies, for the given several parameters the detection probabilities of changes of central and dispersion tendencies are calculated, the necessary sample size values n are suggested for detecting the changes, and their informations are given as various tables.
The speech detection is one of the important problems in real-time speech recognition. The accurate detection of speech boundaries is crucial to the performance of speech recognizer. In this paper, we propose a speech detector based on Mel-band selection through training. In order to show the excellence of the proposed algorithm, we compare it with a conventional one, so called, EPD-VAA (EndPoint Detector based on Voice Activity Detection). The proposed speech detector is trained in order to better extract keyword speech than other speech. EPD-VAA usually works well in high SNR but it doesn't work well any more in low SNR. But the proposed algorithm pre-selects useful bands through keyword training and decides the speech boundary according to the energy level of the sub-bands that is previously selected. The experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm outperforms the EPD-VAA.
This manuscript deals with a novel approach aimed at identifying multiple damaged sites in structural components through finite frequency changes. Natural frequencies, meant as a privileged set of modal data, are adopted along with a numerical model of the system. The adoption of finite changes efficiently allows challenging characteristic problems encountered in damage detection techniques such as unexpected comparison of possible shifted modes and the significance of modal data changes very often affected by experimental/environmental noise. The new procedure extends MDLAC and exploits parallel computing on modern multicore processors. Smart filters, aimed at reducing the potential damaged sites, are implemented in order to reduce the computational effort. Several use cases are presented in order to illustrate the potentiality of the new damage detection procedure.

In this work, first, a multiuser detection (MUD) algorithm based on component-level soft interference cancellation and linear minimum mean square error (CLSIC-LMMSE) is proposed, which can enhance the bit error ratio (BER) performance of the traditional SIC-LMMSE-based MUD by mitigating error propagation. Second, for non-binary low density parity check (NB-LDPC) coded high-order modulation systems, when the proposed algorithm is integrated with partial mapping, the receiver with iterative detection and decoding (IDD) achieves not only better BER performance but also significantly computational complexity reduction over the traditional SIC-LMMSE-based IDD scheme. Extrinsic information transfer chart (EXIT) analysis and numerical simulations are both used to support the conclusions.
Water leak is one of topics with great concern in Korea and many other countries, because of decreasing water supplies and the deterioration of old pipeworks. Correlation techniques have been widely used in leak detection of water pipes, which allow to locate a leak point based on the correlation of leak noise at two sites along water pipes. In this study, both the cross-correlation method and the conventional arrival time difference method are applied in order to analyze and to locate a leak point of a water pipe. In experiment, a 150 m of whole length waterwork pipeline system was constructed in a ground, and several types of leak noise were installed on the pipeline in order to control leak condition. Both the cross-correlation technique and the arrival time difference method showed favorable results at leak detection with the experimental pipeline system.
