Recently, the need for disaster-preventing broadcast has increased gradually to cope with natural disaster like earthquake and tsunami causing enormous losses of both life and property. In disaster-preventing broadcast system, the wake-up signal is used to alert user terminal and switch the current state of channel to the emergency channel, which is for the fast and efficient delivery of emergency information. In this paper, we propose the detection method of wake-up signal for disaster-preventing broadcast systems. The wake-up signals for disaster-preventing broadcast should have a good auto-correlation property in low power and narrow-band conditions that does not affect the existing digital television (DTV) system. The suitability of the m-sequence and complementary code (CC) is analyzed for wake-up signals according to signal to noise ratio. A wake-up signal is proposed by combining the direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technique and pseudo noise (PN) sequences such as Barker and Walsh-Hadamard codes. By using the proposed method, a higher detecting performance can be achieved by the spreading gain compared to the single long m-sequence and the Golay code.
Nighttime sea fog detection from satellite is very hard due to limitation in using visible channels. Currently, most widely used method for the detection is the Dual Channel Difference (DCD) method based on Brightness Temperature Difference between 3.7 and 11 ${\mu}m$ channel (BTD). However, this method have difficulty in distinguishing between fog and low cloud, and sometimes misjudges middle/high cloud as well as clear scene as fog. Using CALIPSO Lidar Profile measurements, we have analyzed the intrinsic problems in detecting nighttime sea fog from various satellite remote sensing algorithms and suggested the direction for the improvement of the algorithm. From the comparison with CALIPSO measurements for May-July in 2011, the DCD method excessively overestimates foggy pixels (2542 pixels). Among them, only 524 pixel are real foggy pixels, but 331 pixels and 1687 pixels are clear and other type of clouds, respectively. The 514 of real foggy pixels accounts for 70% of 749 foggy pixels identified by CALIPSO. Our proposed new algorithm detects foggy pixels by comparing the difference between cloud top temperature and underneath sea surface temperature from assimilated data along with the DCD method. We have used two types of cloud top temperature, which obtained from 11 ${\mu}m$ brightness temperature (B_S1) and operational COMS algorithm (B_S2). The detected foggy 1794 pixels from B_S1 and 1490 pixel from B_S2 are significantly reduced the overestimation detected by the DCD method. However, 477 and 446 pixels have been found to be real foggy pixels, 329 and 264 pixels be clear, and 989 and 780 pixels be other type of clouds, detected by B_S1 and B_S2 respectively. The analysis of the operational COMS fog detection algorithm reveals that the cloud screening process was strictly enforced, which resulted in underestimation of foggy pixel. The 538 of total detected foggy pixels obtain only 187 of real foggy pixels, but 61 of clear pixels and 290 of other type clouds. Our analysis suggests that there is no winner for nighttime sea fog detection algorithms, but loser because real foggy pixels are less than 30% among the foggy pixels declared by all algorithms. This overwhelming evidence reveals that current nighttime sea fog algorithms have provided a lot of misjudged information, which are mostly originated from difficulty in distinguishing between clear and cloudy scene as well as fog and other type clouds. Therefore, in-depth researches are urgently required to reduce the enormous error in nighttime sea fog detection from satellite.

While most of the public radio spectrum bands are allocated to licensed users, cognitive radio has been considered as a promising technology for the efficient spectrum utilization. In this new technology, secondary users opportunistically use the temporally underutilized licensed bands as long as they do not give the harmful interference to primary users. In this paper, we focus on the infra-structured network condition in which the cognitive radio network consists of a cognitive radio base station and multiple secondary users. Upon detecting a primary user, the entire cognitive radio network generally switches to another available channel, even if most of the on-going communications still does not interfere with the primary user. Moreover, the network re-entry process on a new channel causes the service disruption of the on-going communications. For this reason, in this paper, we propose a relaying scheme for efficient frequency usage, in which the secondary user out of the interference range of a primary user performs as a relaying node for the secondary user possibly interfering with a primary user. The entire spectrum switching is not required, and thus, we can avoid the service disruption of the on-going communications as much as possible.

Wireless transmission system using the multipath channel is affected ISI due to the delay spread. So we use a decision feedback equalizer which consist of decision part and feedback filter for remove the ISI effectively. In this paper, we propose a improved adaptive decision feedback equalizer to mitigate ISI effectively. The proposed adaptive decision feedback equalizer is construct by using soft decision device and hierarchical feedback filter based on MMSE sub-optimal equalizer using the LMS algorithm. Soft decision device mitigate the error propagation in feedback filter by incorrectly detected decision symbol and feedback filter which is divided two step independently mitigate the ISI by using a adaptive algorithm. As a result this structure shows better performance than conventional decision feedback equalizer by mitigating the error propagation in filter cause incorrectly detecting symbol. and we get the MSE more rapidly by using larger step-size due to reduce the number of feedback filter tap. In computer simulation, we compare the bit error rate performance of proposed decision feedback equalizer with conventional one on the S-V channel model for UWB system.

This paper proposes a new text candidate region detection method that uses genetic algorithm based on information of the segmented regions. In image segmentation, a classification of the pixels at each color channel and a reclassification of the region-unit for reducing inhomogeneous clusters are performed. EWFCM(Entropy-based Weighted C-Means) algorithm to classify the pixels at each color channel is an improved FCM algorithm added with spatial information, and therefore it removes the meaningless regions like noise. A region-based reclassification based on a similarity between each segmented region of the most inhomogeneous cluster and the other clusters reduces the inhomogeneous clusters more efficiently than pixel- and cluster-based reclassifications. And detecting text candidate regions is performed by genetic algorithm based on energy and variance of the directional edge components, the number, and a size of the segmented regions. The region information-based detection method can singles out semantic text candidate regions more accurately than pixel-based detection method and the detection results will be more useful in recognizing the text regions hereafter. Experiments showed the results of the segmentation and the detection. And it confirmed that the proposed method was superior to the existing methods.
The tidal channel is a coastal sedimentary terrain that plays the most important role in the formation and development of tidal flats, and is considered a very important index for understanding and distribution of tidal flat sedimentation/erosion terrain. The purpose of this study is to understand the changes in tidal channels by a period after the opening of the floodgate of the seawall in the reclaimed land of Sihwa Lake using KOMPSAT high-resolution multispectral satellite image data and to evaluate the applicability and efficiency of high-resolution satellite images. KOMPSAT 2 and 3 images were used for extraction of the tidal channels' lineaments in 2009, 2014, and 2019 and were applied to supervised classification method based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Artificial Neural Net (ANN), Matched Filtering (MF), and Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM) and band ratio techniques using Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and MF/SAM. For verification, a numerical map of the National Geographic Information Service and Landsat 7 ETM+ image data were utilized. As a result, KOMPSAT data showed great agreement with the verification data compared to the Landsat 7 images for detecting a direction and distribution pattern of the tidal channels. However, it has been confirmed that there will be limitations in identifying the distribution of tidal channels' density and providing meaningful information related to the development of the sedimentary process. This research is expected to present the possibility of utilizing KOMPSAT image-based high-resolution remote exploration as a way of responding to domestic intertidal environmental issues, and to be used as basic research for providing multi-platform-image-based convergent thematic maps and topics.

Over the recent years, surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has dramatically grown as a label-free detecting technique with the high level of selectivity and sensitivity. Conventional SERS-active nanostructured layers have been deposited or patterned on rigid substrates such as silicon wafers and glass slides. Such devices fabricated on a flexible platform may offer additional functionalities and potential applications. For example, flexible SERS-active substrates can be integrated into microfluidic diagnostic devices with round-shaped micro-channel, which has large surface area compared to the area of flat SERS-active substrates so that we may anticipate high sensitivity in a conformable device form. We demonstrate fabrication of flexible SERS-active nanostructured substrates based on soft-lithography for simple, low-cost processing. The SERS-active nanostructured substrates are fabricated using conventional Si fabrication process and inkjet printing methods. A Si mold is patterned by photolithography with an average height of 700 nm and an average pitch of 200 nm. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), a mixture of Sylgard 184 elastomer and curing agnet (wt/wt = 10:1), is poured onto the mold that is coated with trichlorosilane for separating the PDMS easily from the mold. Then, the nano-pattern is transferred to the thin PDMS substrates. The soft lithographic methods enable the SERS-active nanostructured substrates to be repeatedly replicated. Silver layer is physically deposited on the PDMS. Then, gold nanoparticle (AuNP) inks are applied on the nanostructured PDMS using inkjet printer (Dimatix DMP 2831) to deposit AuNPs on the substrates. The characteristics of SERS-active substrates are measured; topology is provided by atomic force microscope (AFM, Park Systems XE-100) and Raman spectra are collected by Raman spectroscopy (Horiba LabRAM ARAMIS Spectrometer). We anticipate that the results may open up various possibilities of applying flexible platform to highly sensitive Raman detection.

In this paper, we consider selective mapping (SLM) based OFDM systems without side information, where SLM is one of the promising peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction techniques due to its simplicity and no distortion in the transmitted signal. First, we construct a new phase sequence where a part of phase sequence is replaced by an orthogonal sequence. Based on the proposed phase sequence, we propose a new scheme for detecting coherently the index of the phase sequence used in transmitter without side information. Computer simulation shows that the proposed detection scheme performs well in SLM-based OFDM systems, and specifically outperforms the existing ones when channel variation is relatively small between sub-carriers used in phase sequence detection.
In this paper, we propose a new double talk detection algorithm which detects near end signals with less degradation, tracking echo path variation of echo canceler simultaneously. Our method makes use of a cross-correlation between channel input signals and estimated error signals and a normalized cross-correlation between microphone input signals and estimated error signals. By combing thresholds for these cross-correlations pertinently, this algorithm discriminates between variation of echo path and occurrence of double talk. These two cross-correlation are used to detect double talk periods, tracking echo path variation. During the detection period, adjustive adaptive filter is ceased to prevent the echo canceler from being disturbed by near end signals. Also, the echo canceler will still be kept on for tracking any variation in echo path. Through computer simulation results, it was confirmed that the proposed algorithm shows better performance, tracking echo path variation and detecting the double talk periods, than the Ye et. al's and the NLMS algorithms from ERLE viewpoint.

The aim of the present study is to define and tentatively to interpret the distribution of polluted water released from Lake Sihwa into the Yellow Sea using Landsat TM. Since the region is an extreme Case 2 water, empirical algorithms for detecting concentration of chlorophyll-a and suspended sediments have limitations. This work focuses on the use of multi-temporal Landsat TM data. We applied PCA to detect evolution of spatial feature of polluted water after release from the lake Sihwa. The PCA results were compared with in situ data, such as chlorophyll-a, suspended sediments, Secchi disk depth(SDD), surface temperature, remote sensing reflectance at six channel of SeaWiFS. Also, the in situ remote sensing reflectance obtained by PRR-600(Profiling Reflectance Radiometer) was compared with PCA results of Landsat TM data sets to find good correlation between first Principal Component and Secchi disk depth($R^2$=0.7631), although other variables did not result in such a good correlation. Therefore, Problems in applying PCA techniques to multi-spectral remotely sensed data were also discussed in this paper.
