Gears, crucial components in modern precision machinery for power transmission mechanisms, are required to have low contacting noise with high torque transmission, which makes the use of gear-tooth profile modifications and gear-tooth surface crowning extremely efficient and valuable. Due to the shortcomings of current techniques, such as manual rectification, mechanical modification, and numerically controlled rectification, we propose a novel electrochemical gear-tooth profile modification method based on an artificial neural network control technique. The fundamentals of electrochemical tooth-profile modifications based on real-time control and a mathematical model of the process are discussed in detail. Due to the complex and uncertain relationships among the machining parameters of electrochemical tooth-profile modification processes, we used an artificial neural network to determine the required processing electric current as the tooth-profile modification requirements were supplied. The system was implemented and a practical example was used to demonstrate that this technology is feasible and has potential applications in the production of precision machinery.
In comparison with conventional shape memory actuated structures, antagonistic shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators permits a fully reversible two-way response and higher response frequency. However, excessive internal stress could adversely reduce the stroke of the actuators under repeated use. The two-way shape memory effect might further decrease the range of the recovered strain under actuation of an antagonistic SMA actuator unless additional components (e.g., spring and stopper) are added to regain the overall actuation capability. In this paper, the performance of all four possible types of SMA actuation schemes is investigated in detail with emphasis on five key properties: recovered strain, cyclic degradation, response frequency, self-sensing control accuracy, and controllable maximum output. The testing parameters are chosen based on the maximization of recovered strain. Three types of these actuators are antagonistic SMA actuators, which drive with two active SMA wires in two directions. The antagonistic SMA actuator with an additional pair of springs exhibits wider displacement range, more stable performance under reuse, and faster response, although accurate control cannot be maintained under force interference. With two additional stoppers to prevent the over stretch of the spring, the results showed that the proposed structure could achieve significant improvement on all five properties. It can be concluded that, the last type actuator scheme with additional spring and stopper provide much better applicability than the other three in most conditions. The results of the performance analysis of all four SMA actuators could provide a solid basis for the practical design of SMA actuators.
A high-order nonlocal strain gradient model is developed for wave propagation analysis of porous FG nanoplates resting on a gradient hybrid foundation in thermal environment, for the first time. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and graded in the nanoplate thickness direction. To consider the thermal effects, uniform, linear, nonlinear, exponential, and sinusoidal temperature distributions are considered for temperature-dependent FG material properties. On the basis of the refined-higher order shear deformation plate theory (R-HSDT) in conjunction with the bi-Helmholtz nonlocal strain gradient theory (B-H NSGT), Hamilton's principle is used to derive the equations of wave motion. Then the dispersion relation between frequency and wave number is solved analytically. The influences of various parameters (such as temperature rise, volume fraction index, porosity volume fraction, lower and higher order nonlocal parameters, material characteristic parameter, foundations components, and wave number) on the wave propagation behaviors of porous FG nanoplates are investigated in detail.
Female germ cell meiotic divisions are typically asymmetric, giving rise to two daughter cells with different sizes. Spindle movements including spindle migration from the oocyte center to the cortex and spindle rotation from parallel to perpendicular (typically in the mouse) at the cortex are crucial for these asymmetric divisions and therefore are crucial for gamete production. Different regulatory mechanisms for spindle movements have been determined in different species and a wide variety of different molecular components and processes that are involved in spindle movements have also been identified in different species. Here, we review the current state of knowledge as well as our understanding of mechanisms for spindle movements in different systems with focus on three main aspects: microtubules (MT), microfilaments (MF) and molecules associated with cytoskeletal organization as well as molecules that are not directly related to the cytoskeleton. How they might interact or function independently during female meiotic divisions in different species is discussed in detail.
The objectives of this study is to develop a strategy for the adoption of BPM(Business Process Management) standards and an implementation guideline of the BPM standard for BPM solution developers focusing on BPEL(Business Process Execution Language) which is regarded as the most important BPM standard. In the heterogeneous and distributed IT environments, every type of enterprise software requires standards to enhance interoperability. BPMS(Business Process Management System), which is a type of enterprise software requires BPM standards such as BPEL(Business Process Execution Language), BPMN(Business Process Modeling and Notation), BPQL(Business Process Query Language) and so on to achieve multi-system interoperability and component interoperability with their BPM solutions. It is quite helpful to provide the adoption strategy concerning BPM standards for each type of BPM solution vendors who need the BPM standards. Since the BPEL is conceived as the most important BPM standard and widely adopted by many BPM vendors, we have proposed a reference architecture for BPEL implementation and also developed the detail implementation guideline of core components of the BPM system supporting the BPEL standard. Using the strategy and implementation guideline proposed in this work, BPM solution vendors can establish their own standard adoption strategy and they can also develop their BPM solutions supporting the BPM standards more efficiently.
In order to analyze the motion errors of the aerostatic stage, it is necessary to consider the influence of the moment variation occurredinside the pads. In this paper, a motion error anaysis method utilizing the transfer functions on the reaction force and moment is proposed, and general characteristics of the transfer functions are discussed. Calculated motion errors by the proposed method show good agreement with the ones calculated by Multi Pad Method, which is considered the entire table as an analysis object. Also, by the introduction of the transfer function of motion errors, which represent the relationship between the spatial frequency components of the rail form error and motion errors, motional characteristics of the porous aerostatic stage can be generalized. In detail, the influence of the spatial frequencies is analyzed quantatively, and the patterns of the insensitive frequencies which almost do not affect the linear motion error or angular motion error according to the rail length ratio and the number of the pad are verified. The relationship between the moment variation occurred inside the pads and the motion errors is also verified together.
For the control system of thermal turbine in fuel and nuclear power plant, as high reliability and availability are required, redundant control system is generally applied. This paper presents the configuration and design of such a redundant control system that can be suitable for control and monitoring of the turbine. System components such as I/O system, communication networks, voting system are designed, and especially the new intelligent voter using serial communication are proposed. The characteristics of the implemented control system is independence of the control, protection and monitoring functions, and discrimination of the redundancies, and high availability. The control functions such as speed control, load control, valve control and protective functions such as overspeed and PLU are designed in detail.

The Joule-Thomson cryocooler with $H_2$gas has been developed. Cool-down characteristics and the cooling performance of a JT cryocooler have been investigated in detail. The JT cryocooler consists of JT expansion valve, heat exchanger, expansion chamber, compressed $H_2$gas storage tank, $LN_2$precooler, heater and a cryostat. The precooling process using both $GN_2$and $LN_2$was peformed to cool down the inside components of cryocooler under the maximum inversion temperature of $H_2$. The $H_2$expansion experiments have been peformed for 2-5MPa of H$_2$pressure to evaluate steady state temperatures of the cryocooler. It is found that the steady state temperatures are decreased as the H$_2$pressures are increased. The effects of cooling temperatures on the performance have been evaluated for various $H_2$and $N_2$pressures. It is seen that the cooling loads are increased, as the cooling temperature and operating pressure are increased.

A computer program for thermal design analysis has been developed to predict the operating characteristics and performance of an absorption heat pump to recover $30{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ of waste hot water. The effects of heat transfer area of the system components, temperature and mass flow rate of heat transfer medium, and solution circulation rate on the system performance are investigated in detail. The results obtained indicate that the COP is increased with a decrease in the temperature of driving steam and with an increase in the temperature of waste hot water while the COP is little affected by the variation of a hot water temperature. It is also found that the heating output is increased with an increase in the temperature of waste hot water and driving steam as well as with a decrease in the temperature of hot water. The simulation results are also compared with the experimental results for a periodic operation of the system and obtained a satisfactory agreement.
Dual channel Radiometer for Earth and Atmospheric Monitoring (DREAM) is the main payload on Science and Technology SATellite-2 (STSAT-2) of Korea. DREAM is two-channel microwave radiometer with linear polarization, and operating at center frequencies of 23.8 GHz and 37 GHz. An equation for DREAM calibration is derived which accounts for losses and re-radiation in the microwave components of the radiometer due to physical temperature. This paper describes the radiometric calibration equation to get antenna temperature ($T_A$) from the measured output data. At lower altitude, the measured deep space temperature is contaminated by middle atmosphere and earth radiation. In this paper, we presented the detail mathematical formulation to find the altitude up to which cold source brightness temperature is not affected by earth and middle atmosphere radiation. The DREAMPFM data is used to calculate the performance parameters (linearity, sensitivity, dynamic range, and etc.) of the system.
