  • The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of landscape details in representing symbolic images in memorials on the themes of war, tragedy, and the democratization movement. In considering the characteristics of memorial landscapes, the researcher divided the characteristics of landscape details into 3 analysis categories. They are the symbolic application of landscape elements, the embodiment of landscape details, and the organization of landscape details to represent symbolic images, for example, memory, mourning, reflection, healing, glory, and identity. Among details in 24 memorials designed in or after 1970. 133 symbolic details were selected including 64 items in Korea. The analysis revealed that among 30 elements used by designers for memorialization, walls, ponds, sculptures were used more often than other elements in representing the meaning of mourning, reflection, and healing that are the basic function of memorial. In regard to detail form, the designers used basic shapes like circles, squares and rectangles, horizontal and vertical lines to heighten the symbolic effect of shapes in confined form. Stone and water utilized from nature were also used as main materials because of their materiality meaning of death, eternity, life, and healing. The techniques of using lighting, fire, and sound were introduced to make details more effective. Details were organized in harmony and repetition to represent the flew of time and space in symbolic images. The study identified the following characteristics of memorial landscapes in Korea that were different from other country first, in designing memorials, most designers in Korea have been more focused on the organization of space than the details in memorials, and so, they have been neglecting to deliver symbolic image through detail design, while depending mainly on the introduction of art works. Lastly, because they introduced traditional elements which have little relation with the symbolic image needed, there have been many details which inaccurately represent symbolic meanings.

  • In recent years, according to the increase of interests in indoor space, various researches are being carried out for the construction and services of indoor spatial information. BIM data is very useful to build indoor spatial information. Accordingly, many studies for the use of BIM data on GIS part are in progress. In order to take advantage of BIM data on GIS part, the conversion technology for building indoor data and visualization techniques are required. However, most of the previous researches are focused on the conversion technology to construct indoor spatial information by importing BIM data into GIS applications while there is few research on visualization. In this study, an indoor LOD(Level of Detail) model is proposed to apply to on indoor facility management system when indoor data was constructed based on BIM data for the linkage between BIM and GIS.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the women´s fashion with the design elements(silhouette, material, color, detail and trimming) of androgynous image which has appeared on our specialized fashion magazine from 1986 through 2000. As a result of this study I drew the following conclusion. 1. The bon silhouette led the market in the first stage of mid 1980. The wool and leather with the masculine image, cotton and soft material with unisex image were used to express the androgynous image. The dark and mono tone with the masculine image were used a lot in color. In women´s fashion the minimalism style with simple image was expressed escaping from the decoration, in which the detail and trimming was not found as in men´s wear. 2. It showed that more and more feminine image was accepted in the second stage of early 1990. Women´s wear silhouette with the androgynous image has changed from masculine box silhouette boomed in the first stage to hourglass silhouette and slim silhouette. The wool and leather were used a lot as the materials in the first stage but the usage of the cotton with unisex image and soft texture were getting increased. The main colors were the black and the blue but the usage of the white and the red were on the increase showing the range of the use was extending. In the meantime, the detail and trimming were hardly used like in the first stage. 3. In the third stage of the late 1990, the silhouette has changed to slim style. The wool and leather were mainly used as the materials but the cotton and silk were on the increase showing that the materials of the feminine image were used in the women´s fashion with the androgynous image as well as the materials of masculine image. In color, the black and the white of the masculine image were used increasingly by the effect of the minimalism and the usage of the colors were various for the rising frequency of the trend colors usage.

  • Recently air quality modeling studies for industrial complex and large cities located in the coastal regions have been carried out Especially, the representation of atmospheric flow fields within a model domain is very important, because an adequate air quality simulation requires an accurate portrayal of the realistic threedimensional wind fields. Therefore this study investigated effect of using high resolution terrain height data and FDDA with observational data to reflect local characteristics in numerical simulation. So the experiments were designed according to FDDA and the detail terrain height with 3sec resolution or not Case 30s was the experiment using the terrain height data of USGS without FDDA and Case 3s was the experiment using the detail terrain height data of Ministry of Environment without FDDA and Case 3sF was experiment using the detail terrain height data of Ministry of Environment with FDDA. The results of experiments were more remarkable, In Case 3s and Case 3sF, temperature indicated similar tendency comparing to observational data predicting maximum temperature during the daytime and wind speed made weakly for difference of terrain height Also Case 3sF had more adequate tendency than Case 3s at dawn.

  • Recently in terrain rendeing, most researches introduce mipmap-based out-of-core methods for handling large sized DEM data which does not fit in main memory of general computer. However, mipmap-based LOD(level-of-detail) methods occur geometric errors which appear in data simplifying the higher LOD level. These geometric errors cause geometric popping effects where LOD level changes when viewpoint moves. In this paper, we propose vertex cohesion map for reducing geometric error. In preprocessing step, we generate vertex cohesion map, which is a texture that stores the vectors. By these vectors, each vertex will be cohered into the position in which the difference of gradient value is bigger than others. Therefore in terrain rendering, using vertex cohesion map can dramatically reduce the geometry popping effects rather than using mipmap.

  • This study aims at analyzing the silhouette, dress patterns and detail of Empire Era(1789-1825), and making use of this results for the modern stage costume construction. The dresses of Empire era were divided into X and H style. The results revealed that the bust girth of X style group was bigger than that of H style group. Such patterns as high waistline, puff sleeve, train, etc. which appeared during the peak time of Empire style period were more remarkable for H style group. This obviously indicated that more epical characteristics were observed for H style group than for X style group. Similarly to silhouette analysis, based on the results from cluster analysis conducted to put similar groups together, two groups were formed - a visually differentiated and complex group and a simple group in the absence of detail. Most dress details from Empire period had simple embellishments. Comparison of the average size of the patterns between two groups indicated that waist front length of H style was shorter than that of X style. Front interscye was even greater than back width for both groups. Such trend was quite different from today's pattern in which back width is larger than front width based on body measurements. Preference for big breast during the period was reflected on dress patterns and the side length of front side goes across the back much further for bodice patterns. Two representatives were selected and reproduced using materials similar to those of real dresses of Empire style, following two times fit test.

  • The ROPS of an agricultural tractor is designed to protect its driver when the tractor overturns. Although the current OECD tests to determine whether the ROPS meets the requirements of the OECD regulation are desirable, they need long time to test. We experimental time and effort by using CAE. We conducted a finite element analysis for the ROPS design of a Dae-Dong tractor cabin in an attempt to reduce the design and manufacturing time. This study shows the interpretative skill using MARC(v.2000) for designing ROPS and difference between the results of testing and FEA. Design process is generally divided into two phases: a concept and a detail design. The concept design uses simple analysis to predict structural behavior, whereas the detail design involves a finite element analysis performed by the results of the concept design. This study focused on the detail design and used Patran(v.2000r2) and MARC(v.2000) of the MSC software corporation. The model consisted of 4812 elements and 4582 nodes. Four tests. specified in the OECD standards, were performed: (1) longitudinal loading test (2) rear crushing test (3) side loading test (4), and front crushing test. Independent analyses were also performed for each test, along with a sequential analysis. When compared, the results of the independent and sequential analyses were found to be similar to the test results.

  • 3D spatial data are of increasing interest in landscape analysis, urban planning and map services based on Web, because of its reality. But the amount of 3D spatial data are very large in comparison with 2D spatial data. Therefore it is necessary to have a efficient methods to transfer and visualize 3D spatial data. The concept of Level of Detail in Computer Graphics is effective. This paper briefly presents two LOD data models of data transmission based on the spatial data model of international standards. First, it is separated LOD model that gives a LOD level to object. Second is Selective LOD model that gives a LOD level to object's element. We compared the efficiency of 3D data transmission based on two LOD model.

  • Drawings in construction industry are an aggregation of knowledge containing various information generated in a number of projects. Finish details are generated by architects when they select details and methods of construction by spaces or elements. However it is so difficult to re-use details in existing drawing management systems because there are so many details in a sheet and there are several many kinds of sheets in a file. In this paper, a drawing segmentation algorithm is suggested for managing building finish details individually. Based on this algorithm, a system module for making detail blocks from files of finish details is developed. Using the drawing segmentation module, interfaces of drawing management system are suggested in the paper. Management of individual detail blocks helps to reduce of the time for searching and increases productivity of designed drawings. Also it would contribute to increase quality of designed drawings by reusing of knowledge in detail blocks.

  • Two factors are required for a virtual reality system; realism and immersion. Since realism is determined primarily by the realistic image, objects in a virtual environment should be represented with details by their own characteristics. Also, reflection on light must be considered. On the other hand, immersion is defined as realistic movements and fast interactions. Thus, virtual environment should be rendered as fast as possibl. Regular frame rate should also be kept to make moves as intended by the user. In a complex virtual environment composed of objects with various levels, the appropriate level for individual object should be assigned according to the view point, in other words, the selection of level-of-detail is needed. In this paper, the problem of determining the levels of detail is formalized in terms of error, cost and L -distance. Error is defined as the difference between the current level image and the highest level image, cost as rendering time, and L-distance as the level difference between the previous and the current level. To solve this problem, a new method called the well-distributed adaptive algorithmis proposed.
