Outcome of Pars Plana Retinopexy with Perfluoro-n-octane-Silicone Oil Exchange for Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment in Dogs: 9 Eyes

  • This study was performed to describe the outcome of pars plana retinopexy with perfluoro-n-octane (PFO)-silicone oil (SiO) exchange in dogs with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in Seoul National University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (SNU VMTH) from 2014 to 2017. Nine eyes of 8 dogs were included in this study. Medical records including signalment, history, duration from onset of blindness to surgical intervention, pre-operative findings, duration from surgery to regaining vision, and post-operative complications were evaluated. No eyes were visual before surgery. Duration from onset of blindness to surgical intervention was 2-30 days (median 8 days); duration from surgery to regain vision was 1-14 days (median 6 days); follow-up time was 15-1088 days (median 69 days). Post-operative complications were divided as temporary vs permanent conditions. Temporary complications were corneal ulcer, uveitis, retinal haemorrhage, glaucoma, subconjunctival leakage of SiO, and vitreal haemorrhage. Permanent complications were anterior chamber migration of SiO, retinal degeneration, corneal degeneration, re-detachment, and cataract. Six of 9 eyes regained functional vision, five of which remained visual throughout the follow-up time while the other one lost vision after 3 months because of uveitic glaucoma. In conclusion, pars plana retinopexy with PFO-SiO exchange provided fair outcome in 66.7% cases described in this study.

  • 코로나 방전 정전선별기 내에서 인쇄회로기판(Printed Circuit Board, PCB) 분쇄 입자의 이동궤도를 전산 모사하였다. 여기서 PCB입자는 전자부품 분리된 기판을 파쇄한 것으로, 대부분 구리와 FR-4(Flame Retardant Level-4)로 이루어져있다. 우선 입자가 선별기내 회전전극으로부터 탈착 지점을 계산하였으며, 중력, 원심력, 정전기력의 평형으로부터 유도되었다. 한편 탈착 후 이동궤도는 입자의 운동방정식으로부터 구한 가속도를 시간 적분하여 계산하였다. 시뮬레이션 변수는 입자의 크기, 공급전압의 세기, 회전전극속도 및 유도전극 각도로 하였다. 입자 이동궤도에 미치는 영향은 구리 입자의 경우에는 회전속도가 주요 변수였으나, 반면 FR-4 입자의 경우에는 상기 모든 변수에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.

Effect of Rinsing after Mordanting on the Air-permeability and Dyeing of Fabrics with Cochineal Dyestuff

  • According to the experimental results, it has been reported by several researchers that the air-permeability values of the fabrics mostly decreased by the mordanting during the dyeing procedure. The exact quantitative information, however, has not been presented so far. In this study, the change of the fabric air-permeability was investigated quantitatively. At the same time, the change of the fabric air-permeability according to the dyeing procedure. In order to investigate the possibility of the detachment of the metal ions on the fiber or fabric surface, the change of the air-permeability was investigated after several rinsing of the mordanted fabrics. By comparing the color differences of the cochineal dyed fabrics which were subjected to rinsing procedure after mordanting, the effect of the rinsing of the mordanted fabrics on the dyeing of fabrics was investigated. At the range of mordant concentration, 2% Cu, 2% Sn, 2% Fe, 2% Cr, 5% Al, the metal ions are not excessively absorbed on the fiber surface. Also, any remarkable detachment of the metal ions does not accompany after the mordanting with the subsequent rinsing procedure.

과채류 수확을 위한 로봇 엔드이펙터 리뷰 (A Review of End-effector for Fruit and Vegetable Harvesting Robot)

  • Fruit and vegetable harvesting robots have been widely studied and developed in recent years to reduce the cost of harvesting tasks such as labor and time. However, harvesting robots have many challenges due to the difficulty and uncertainty of task. In this paper, we characterize the crop environment related to the harvesting robot and analyzes state-of-the-art of the harvesting robot especially, in the viewpoint of robotic end-effector. The end-effector, an one of most important element of the harvesting robot, was classified into gripper and harvesting module, which were reviewed in more detail. Performance measures for the evaluation of harvesting robot such as test, detachment success, harvest success, and cycle time were also introduced. Furthermore, we discuss the current limitations of the harvesting robot and challenges and directions for future research.

  • Time-frequency analysis (TFA) method was applied to identify the integrity of the internal local surface of a pipe where some chemical corrosions are likely to occur by acid mixed in the coolant of nuclear power plants. The spalling out of internal material pieces by corrosion induces some transient signals and the change of structural vibration of a local point in the pipe. It is therefore possible to detect the corrosion detachment through the measurement of the transient acoustic signals or the vibration signals. In this presentation, the TFA was configured on the vibrational signal data of the pipe and it is identified that the TFA can Provide an important information, i.e., the amplitude fluctuations in the instantaneous frequency of each characteristic frequency.

중·소하천에서 부착미생물군집의 성장에 따른 불소 제거 효과 평가 (Evaluation of Fluoride Removal Effect with Growth of Attached Microbial Community in Middle and Small Stream)

  • 본 연구는 경기도 중소하천에서 하상의 부착미생물군집의 시간에 따른 생장 변화와 부착미생물군집의 성장에 따른 불소의 제거 효율을 파악하기 위해 수행하였다. 방류수가 유입되는 지점인 P1과 그 곳에서 약 2 km 유하한 하류 지점인 P2에서 12주 동안의 현장 모니터링을 실시하고, 조사 지점의 수질과 부착미생물군집의 생체량 분석을 진행하였다. 부착미생물군집의 성장량은 7차 조사 시점까지 증가하다 이후 탈리현상이 발생하는 것으로 관찰되었으며, 부착미생물군집의 성장에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 유량, 유속, 영양물질(질소, 인) 등으로 조사되었다. 한편, 부착미생물군집 체내의 불소 함유량 또한 7차 조사 시기까지 증가하다 8차 시점부터 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 이는 부착미생물군집의 탈리현상에 의해 불소의 함유량 또한 감소하였음을 사사한다. 이를 통해 하천 관리의 방안으로서 부착미생물군집의 활용법에 대한 평가 및 관리에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 부착미생물군집을 활용한 기법의 적용 시에는 부착미생물군집의 성장에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 요인에 대한 기초 조사 및 탈리 시점에 따른 부착판 교체 방안 등이 포함되어야할 것으로 사료된다.

작은대칭이, Anodonta arcaeformis flavotincta의 유생 발생 중 숙주어류내에서 글로키디움 유생의 피낭 형성과정에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Glochidial Encystment in Host Fish during the development of Anodonta arcaeformis flavotincta)

  • 한국산 작은대칭이 (Anodonta arcaeformis flavotincta)의 유생발생 중 유생(glochidium)을 숙주어류인 붕어(carassius auratus)에 감염시켜 유생의 피낭형성과정(부착부위, 부착후 탈락가지의 시기)을 알아보기 위해, 주사전자현미경을 이용하여 관찰한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 유생들은 30분내에 숙주어류의 니트러미, 구강 그리고 아가미에 부착되었다. 이 연구에서 유생이 부착된 숙주어류의 지느러미를 시간별로 관찰하였다. 유생의 부착률은 숙주어류의 가슴지느러미,꼬리지느러미, 배지느러미에 각각 30%, 22%, 17%였다. 피낭형성과정은 천천히 진행되었다. 1차 피낭형성은 24시간에서 27시간째에 이루어졌고, 그리고 5일 내지 6일째 유생은 숙주조직의 상피세포로 완전히 덮였다. 유패의 탈락과정은 숙주에 감염시킨후 8일째에 관찰되었다. 유생의 대부분은 15일 이내에 숙주어류의 피낭으로부터 탈락되었다. 유생이 숙주에 부착되기 전과 숙주어류의 피낭으로부터 탈락된 유패의 크기는 변화가 없었다.

  • Cell adhesion to any material surface is considered to be fundamental and important phenomenon in the fields of tissue engineering. Cell adhesion molecules, mechanism, and attachment force have been studied and described a lot. However, the effects of mechanical stimuli on the adhesive forces still have been left much to be investigated. In this study, to investigate the changes in cell adhesive force due to resting time period during the intermittent hydrostatic pressurizing (IHP), cells were cultured under the IHP with various resting times. Then the cell adhesive forces were measured quantitatively utilizing a cell detachment test system and immunofluorescent staining was performed using fluorescent microscopy. In the results, immediately after mechanical stimuli (150 minutes after seeding) and one hour later (210 minutes after seeding), the average adhesive force of experimental group 5 (resting time: 15min) compared with that of control group at same culture time was increased significantly (p<0.05). The results indicated that IHP can contribute in improving cell adhesive force and some of time intervals were required for the expression of cell response.

  • Conventionally in pulsed gas metal arc welding (GMAW-P), drop transfer is analyzed with simplest square pulse waveform. While the pulse current is described by four parameters (peak current magnitude and time plus base current magnitude and time), it deviates the real pulse shape. Real pulse can be better idealized by the trapezoidal pulse waveform described by two additional parameters, i.e., current rise and fall rate (dI/dt). Power source response rate is described by these parameters. In this work, the effect of these parameters on drop transfer is predicted by the force displacement model (FDM). While peak current has significant effects on drop detachment, drop transfer is also influenced by the current rise rate. Predictions indicate that the current rise rate can have considerable effects on the size of the detached drop if other pulse parameters are kept constant. FDM is applied to determine peak time for one drop one pulse condition (ODOP) when rests of the pulse parameters are given. The predicted range of ODOP shows good agreement with experimental data.

  • Excavators are construction machines used for digging soil, transporting soil, dismantling buildings and clearing the ground at construction sites. There are various attachments attached to the arm end of the excavator and used for various operations. There are the most common types of buckets attached for excavation and other types of attachments used for foresting, road cleaning, snow removal, and waste disposal. When multiple types of work are done at the same time, several attachments must be replaced and a device called a quick coupler is used to reduce replacement time. Although a quick coupler reduces the replacement time of the Attachment, it is necessary to attach safety devices to prevent unintentional detachment of attached attachments during the operation. To prevent the attachment from leaving or falling regardless of the operator's intention, support is installed in the hook of the bucket pin and controlled through a separate hydraulic cylinder to ensure safety. When attaching an attachment, it shall be attached without any action. This study is intended to verify the design validity of safety devices to prevent falls of attachments occurring at construction sites.
