Flue Gas Sulfur Dioxide Removal Performance of a Bench-Scale Spray Absorption/Drying Reactor (실험실적 규모의 분무흡수건조반응기의 배출가스 중 아황산가스 처리성능 연구)

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate sulfur dioxide removal performance of flue gas desulfurization system utilizing a Spray Absorption/Drying Reactor. In this system, the size of droplets was considered the most significant factor and tested using a PDA system. Lime slurry flow rate, operating temperature, calcium/sulfur (Ca/S) ratio and applied air pressure were selected as major operation variables and tested/analyzed in terms of system performance. The results are as follows. 1. The $SO_2$ removal efficiencies were 49%, 74%, 85% for Ca$(OH)_2$ slurry flow rate of 10, 20, 30 ml/min, which implies that the increase of slurry flow rate improves removal efficiency. The optimum slurry flow rate in this study was, however, considered 20 ml/min because of constraints of system troubles and absorbent utilization. 2. As Ca/S ratio increased, $SO_2$ removal efficiency was observed to increase. 3. As air pressure, at the atomizing nozzole, increased from 3 to 5 $kg/cm^2, SO_2$ removal efficiency increased from 74% to 80%, because of droplet size reduction due to pressure increase during atomizing process and the increase of surface area, helping mass transfer between gas and liquid phase.

  • 자원고갈과 지구온난화 등으로 재생에너지의 사용 및 보급이 지속적으로 증가할 것으로 예상되지만, 세계적으로 매장량이 풍부한 석탄의 사용량은 2030년 이후에도 지속적으로 증가될 전망이다. 따라서 세계 각국은 기후변화 규제에 대응하면서도 청정하게 석탄을 사용하기 위한 기술의 개발 및 보급을 활발히 진행 중이며, 국내에서도 온실가스 감축과 동시에 국가 성장 동력화를 추진하고 있다. 석탄가스화 기술은 석탄을 가스화하여 생산된 CO, $H_2$가 주성분인 합성가스를 연료로 활용하는 기술로, 이용 효율이 높고 석탄을 천연가스 수준으로 청정하게 사용할 수 있는 차세대 석탄이용 기술이다. 본 연구에서는 pilot급 석탄 가스화기에서 생산된 합성가스에 함유된 산성가스를 고온에서 건식으로 제거하는 시스템을 구축하였으며, 석탄 합성가스를 고온 건식 정제시스템에 공급하기 위한 석탄가스화기의 운전특성을 파악하였다.

Reaction of $H_2S$ with Sorbents of Waste Seashell

  • The waste seashells were used for the removal of hydrogen sulfide from a hot gas stream, The sulphidation of waste seashells with H$_2$S was studied in a thermogravimetric analyzer at temperature between 600 and 800${\circ}$C . The desulfurization performance of the waste seashell sorbents was experimentally tested in a fixed bed reactor system. Sulfidation experiments performed under reaction conditions similar to those at the exit of a coal gasifier showed that preparation procedure and technique, the type and the amount of seashell, and the size of the seashell affect the H2S removal capacity of the sorbents. The pore structure of fresh and sulfided seashell sorbents was analyzed using mercury porosimetry, nitrogen adsorption, and scanning electron microscopy.

  • 석탄이나 석유와 같은 화석연료의 연소 시 대기 중에 발생되는 황산화물의 배출저감 방법으로서 사용연료의 황 함유량을 감소시키는 연소 전 처리방법과 연소과정 중 제거방법, 연소 후 제거하는 방법으로 구분할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 전기 생산능력 40만 kW 급 중유화력 발전소의 연료 연소 후 배기가스 중 황 성분을 제거하는 방법으로 석회석 슬러리와 배기가스를 효과적으로 접촉시켜 SOx 와 먼지 등의 환경오염물질을 제거하고 부산물로 재활용 가능한 고순도의 석고를 생산하게 되는 JBR (Jet Bubbling Reactor) 형식의 습식 석회석-석고법 배연탈황 시스템을 소개하고자 한다.(중략)

Reliability Evaluation of a Slurry Pump (슬러리 펌프의 신뢰성 향상)

  • Purpose: A slurry pump for flue gas desulfurization system performs a role that discharges the slurry of a plaster shape in a thermal power plant. Since a slurry pump transfers the slurry by the centrifugal force, it has the friction wear in the impeller and liner because of the slurry. Methods: In this study, failure analysis and test evaluation on the slurry pump have been proposed and the process that reliability of the product improves through design improvement has been presented. And failure cause of typical failure case has been investigated and improvement design has been presented. Results: Reliability improvement is established by analysis of the test results of before and after acceleration test. Conclusion: This study can be provided to improve the product reliability through failure analysis of a slurry pump.

  • To develop a low emission engine, it is necessary to obtain some better quality of automotive fuels. Sulfur in fuel is transformed to sulfate-laden PM as DOC is applied. Therefore, it necessary to provide low sulfur fuels before DOC is applied. According to the specification of test fuels, flash point, distillation 90%, cetane index are improved but viscosity is decreased in the process of desulfurization. Excessively reduced sulfur may cause to decrease lubricity of fuel and engine performance in fuel injection system. Therefore, this research was emphasized how the application of Bio-diesel affects on the emission characteristics and engine performance under the circumstance of ULSD and DOC.

  • 국내 최초 800MW급 석탄화력발전소로서 국제환경 규제 기준치를 능가하는 최첨단 환경 설비를 모두 갖춘 최신 발전소로 건설되고 있는 한국남동발전(주) 영흥화력 1,2호기가 2004년 7월과 12월에 완공을 목표로 보일러 및 습식배연탈항설비의 공사가 진행되고 있다. 이에 당사는 본 공사의 주계약자로서 국내 최대 규모의 최첨단 발전소 건설을 위해 최선의 노력을 경주하고 있다. 영흥화력 1,2호기 습식배연탈황설비는 800MW 2호기로 구성되어 있으며 용량 및 시스템 배열 면에 있어서 기존의 설비들과는 상이하므로 시스템 성능 예측 및 평가와 그에 파생되는 설계개선을 위한 새로운 접근방법이 필요하다.   • 오일샌드는 아스팔트와 같은 중질유를 10% 이상 함유한 모래 또는 사암으로서, 겉으로 보기에는 시커먼 흙이나 모래처럼 보이나 내부에는 모래(점토)와 같은 광물질이 70~80%, 에너지원으로 활용이 가능한 중질유 성분인 bitumen이 10~18%, 물이 3~5% 정도 혼합되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 오일샌드 활용방안 개발을 위하여 오일샌드로부터 bitumen의 추출 및 증류 특성에 대한 시험을 진행하였으며, 가스화를 통한 합성가스 제조, 합성가스 중 분진제거 및 탈황, CO/$H_2$비 제어를 위한 합성가스 전환 등의 시험을 진행하였는데, pilot급 시스템을 이용한 합성가스 제조 시험 결과 중질잔사유를 5~7 kg/h 공급하는 조건에서 CO 40~50%, $H_2$ 20~30%, $CO_2$ 10~20% 조성의 합성가스 18~22 $Nm^3$/h를 제조하였다.

Development of Marine Emission Control System on NOx and SOx through Seawater Electrolysis

  • In marine air pollution control, SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is reconized as the most effect method to control NOx, but on the other hand. seawater scrubber applying the basic characteristic that is naturally alkaline (pH typically around 8.1) is viewed as an economical SOx removal system at present. Especially, seawater scrubber would not be necessary to follow any of the various land based flue gas desulfurization methods. i.e. wet, dry or alkali scrubbing. However, these methods are not readily adaptable to marine conditions due to the quantifies of consumables required i.e. lime or limestone, the means of operation and the commercial availability. This research is undertaken to develop a new method as the main target of eliminating all exhaust emissions, particularly vessel, because of easy access to seawater and apt to apply a wet scrubber system. First, using the acidic seawater by seawater electrolysis, nitric monoxide(NO) is adequately oxidized to nitric dioxide $(NO_2)$by ClOx-in the acidic seawater, the electrolyzed alkaline seawater by electrolysis which contains mainly NaOH together with alkali metal ions $(i.e\;Na^{+}\;K^{+},\;Mg_{2}\;^{+},\;Ca_{2}\;^{+})$, is used as the absorption medium of NOx, the SOx are absorbed by relatively high solubility compared to other components of exhaust pollutants. The results found that the NOx and SOx removals could be achieved nearly Perfect.

Investigation of Plume Opacity Induced by the Combustion of Orimulsion (오리멀젼 연소로 인한 가시백연의 원인 규명)

  • Orimulsion, a bitumen-in-water emulsified fuel, has been used throughout the world as a substitute fuel for heavy oil and coal. Orimulsion has relatively high levels of sulfur, nickel, and vanadium, compared to other fuel oils and coals, and has been the subject of much debate regarding the environmental impacts. In Korea, Y power plant has operated boilers with Orimulsion as a fuel, and they has some drawbacks during the plant operation, such as plume opacity. In this study, we investigated the cause of formation mechanism and factors for the plume opacity by investigating the operation data, and measuring the particle size distribution at EP(Electrostatic Precipitator), FGD(Fuel Gas Desulfurization) and TMS(Telecommunications Management System) units. Resulting data showed the primary particles below 1 ${\mu}m$ formed were regrown by the recombination of $SO_3$ in wet-limestone FGD process, and thus the secondary particles are induced to cause the plume opacity.
