Self oscillating current fed push pull resonant inverters can be controlled without using special drivers. Dc current flows through the choke coil and the power switches, although the driving signals of the power switches are sinusoidal. When the base current is near zero, the transistors cannot be operated in switching mode. Hence higher switching power losses and instantaneous peak power during off transitions are observed. In this study, an alternative design has been proposed to overcome this problem. A prototype circuit has been built which provides dc bias current to the base of the transistors. Experimental results are compared with theoretical calculations to demonstrate the validity of the design. The proposed design decreases the peak and average power losses by about 8 times, when compared to conventional designs.
In hybrid renewable power systems, the use of a multiple-input dc/dc converter (MIC) leads to simpler circuit and lower cost, when compared to the conventional use of several single-input converters. This paper proposed a novel three-input buck/boost/buck-boost converter, which can be used in applications with various values of input voltage. The energy sources in this converter can deliver power to the load either simultaneously or individually in one switching period. The steady relationship, the power management strategy and the small-signal circuit model of this converter have been derived. With decoupling technology, modeling and regulator design can be obtained under multi-loop control modes. Finally, three generating methods of a multiple-input buck/boost/buck-boost converter is given, and this method can be extended to the other multiple-input dc/dc converters.
In this paper, we proposed the reasonable design standard and countermeasures of Demand Factor for large office buildings, that was made by the statistical way considering actual conditions, such as investicated electric equipment capacity, electric power consumption, etc. So as to save electric equipment investment, the decrease of power loss, the improvement of facilities utilization and the decrease of electric rates, we can be contributed by the application of the design standard. The result of saving effect is showed to confirm the practical use of the proposed Demand Factor, and also, it is believed that this proposed Demand Factor will be useful in electric equipment operation and planning.
Purpose: The algorithm described in Lim(1998) is available to determine the sample size directly given specified significance level, power and signal-to-noise ratio. We research on the efficient determination of the sample size by visual methods. Methods: We propose three graphs for investigating the mutual relationship between the sample size r, power $1-{\beta}$ and the detectable signal-to-noise ratio ${\Delta}$. First graph shows the relationship between ${\Delta}$ and $1-{\beta}$ for the given r and it can be checked whether the power is sufficient enough. Second graph shows the relationship between r and ${\Delta}$ for the given power $1-{\beta}$. Third graph shows the relationship between r and $1-{\beta}$ for the given ${\Delta}$. It can be checked that which effects are sensitive to the efficient sample size by investigating those graphs. Results: In factorial design, randomized block design and the split plot design how to determine the sample size directly given specified significance level, power and signal-to-noise ratio is programmed by using R. A experiment to study the split plot design in Hicks(1982) is used as an example. We compare the sample sizes calculated by randomized block design with those by split plot design. By using graphs, we can check the possibility of reducing the sample size efficiently. Conclusion: The proposed visual methods can help an engineer to make a proper plan to reduce the sample size.
A small power reactor core of 108 MW$\_$th/ was designed with some design constraints: 2 year refueling cycle length, soluble boron free operation, low power density, and proven fuel assembly design - Uljin 3'||'&'||'4 design specifications. CASMO-3 and KINS-3 was used to evaluate operational capability for power level control via control rods. Cycle length, power peaking factor, M.T.C., and power coefficients were also checked. Designed core loaded with KOFAs satisfied all design goals. We found that much more burnable poisons are to be loaded with axial enrichment zoning. Control rod assemblies should be located at every other assemblies with more than 3 banks. Additional shutdown banks are proposed for the safe plant cooldown, which could be located at core periphery.

This investigation presents a method to design an optimal shape of a matching waveguide connecting two waveguides having different impedances. The design objective is to maximize power transmission through the waveguide system. When an incident wave impinges on an elastic waveguide system consisting of waveguides of different impedances, all of the incident wave power may not pass through due to the mechanical impedance. Therefore, the maximization of the transmitted power through a waveguide difficult to achieve without a systematic design method. In this work, the optimal shape design of a matching waveguide connecting two waveguides of different impedances is formulated as a shape optimization problem. If the material of the matching waveguide is given, its shape is the only parameter controlling the transmission power. Relatively simple one dimensional elastic wave transmission problems will be considered in this work, but the underlying methodology and the related physics can be clearly demonstrated. The influences of initial configurations as well as the target frequencies on the optimized shapes will be also investigated.

Derivation of reasonable design low flows was attempted by comparative analysis of design low flows was derived by Power and SMEMAX transformations for the normalizations of skewed distribution and by Type m extremal distribution presented in the first report of this study with annual low flows in the five watersheds of main river basins in Korea. The results were anslyzed and summarized as follows. 1.Basic statistics of annual low flows for the selected watersheds were calculated by using Power and SMEMAX transformations. 2.Power thansformation has found to be the best for the normalization of skewed distribution among others including log, square root and SMEMAX transformations. 3.Design low flows for the selected watersheds were derived by the Power and SMEMAX transformations. 4.Judging by the relative suitabilities of the Type III extremal distribution, Power and SMEMAX transformation, it was found that design low flows of all methods are closer to the observed data within 10 years of the return period and those of Power transformation can be acknowledzed as a reasonable one among others from the viewpoint of the median between values of Type m extremal distribution and SMEMAX transformation in addition to closing the observed than others over 10 years of the return period.
Parasitic parameters have a larger influence on Silicon Carbide (SiC) devices with an increase of the switching frequency. This limits full utilization of the performance advantages of the low switching losses in high frequency applications. By combining a theoretical analysis with a experimental parametric study, a mathematic model considering the parasitic inductance and parasitic capacitance is developed for the basic switching circuit of a SiC MOSFET. The main factors affecting the switching characteristics are explored. Moreover, a fast-switching double pulse test platform is built to measure the individual influences of each parasitic parameters on the switching characteristics. In addition, guidelines are revealed through experimental results. Due to the limits of the practical layout in the high-speed switching circuits of SiC devices, the matching relations are developed and an optimized layout design method for the parasitic inductance is proposed under a constant length of the switching loop. The design criteria are concluded based on the impact of the parasitic parameters. This provides guidelines for layout design considerations of SiC-based high-speed switching circuits.
In grid-connected voltage-source inverters (VSIs), when compared with a simple inductive L filter, the LCL filter has a better performance in attenuating the high frequency harmonics caused by the pulse-width modulation of power switches. However, the resonance peaks generated by the filter inductors and capacitors can make a system unstable. In terms of simplicity and filter design cost, a passive damping method is generally preferred. However, its high power loss and degradation in high frequency harmonic attenuation are significant demerits. In this paper, a mathematical design solution for a passive LCL filter to derive filter parameters suppressing the high frequency current harmonics to 0.3% is proposed. The minimum filter inductance can be obtained to reduce the size of the filter. Furthermore, a minimum damping resistance design considering a current controller is analyzed for a stable closed-loop system. The proposed design method is verified by experimental results using a 5-kW three-phase prototype inverter.
Rational scaling of design earthquake ground motions for tall buildings is essential for safer, risk-based design of tall buildings. This paper provides the structural designers with an insight for more rational scaling based on drift and input energy demands. Since a resonant sinusoidal motion can be an approximate critical excitation to elastic and inelastic structures under the constraint of acceleration or velocity power, a resonant sinusoidal motion with variable period and duration is used as an input wave of the near-field and far-field ground motions. This enables one to understand clearly the relation of the intensity normalization index of ground motion (maximum acceleration, maximum velocity, acceleration power, velocity power) with the response performance (peak interstory drift, total input energy). It is proved that, when the maximum ground velocity is adopted as the normalization index, the maximum interstory drift exhibits a stable property irrespective of the number of stories. It is further shown that, when the velocity power is adopted as the normalization index, the total input energy exhibits a stable property irrespective of the number of stories. It is finally concluded that the former property on peak drift can hold for the practical design response spectrum-compatible ground motions.
