The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop during 9as cooling process of $CO_2$ (R744) in a helically coiled copper tube with the inner diameter of 4.55 mm and outer diameter of 6.35 mm were investigated experimentally. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump. a mass flow meter a pre-heater and a helically coiled type gas cooler (test section). The refrigerant mass fluxes are varied from 200 to $800kg/m^2s$ and the inlet pressures of gas cooler are 7.5 to 10.0 MPa. The heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$ in a helically coiled tube are higher than those in a horizontal tube. The Pressure drop of $CO_2$ in the gas cooler shows a relatively good agreement with those predicted by Ito's correlation developed for single-phase in a helically coiled tube. The local heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ agrees well with the correlation by Pitla et al. However. at the region near pseudo-critical temperature. the experiments indicate higher values than the Pitla et al correlation. Therefore, various experiments in helically coiled tubes have to be conducted and it is necessary to develop the reliable and accurate prediction determining the heat transfer and pressure drop of $CO_2$ in a helically coiled tube.

Most current ships have adopted on-board diesel generators to produce electricity, but the overall efficiency of equipment is down to about 50% due to thermal losses from operations such as exhaust gas, jacket water cooler, scavenge air cooler, etc. Recently, fuel cells have been highlighted as a promising technology to reduce the effect on the environment and have a higher efficiency. Therefore, this paper suggested a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)-gas turbine (GT) using waste heat from a SOFC and SOFC-GT-steam turbine (ST) with Rankine cycle. To compare both configurations, the fuel flow rate, current density, cell voltage, electrical power, and overall efficiency were evaluated at different operating loads. The overall efficiency of both SOFC hybrid systems was higher than the conventional system.

In this paper, among various systems applying hot-gas bypass control, outdoor temperature, outlet temperature of water cooler, superheating and subcooling degree, which are the factors affecting the performance of the system bypassing hot-gas to evaporator inlet were analyzed. The main results were summarized as following. Frist of all, performance of refrigeration system bypassing hot-gas to evaporator inlet was affected by outdoor temperature, outlet temperature of water cooler, superheating and sub cooling degree. Thus, providing basic planning date of refrigeration system obtained through optimization of variables is expectable. Thus, providing the basic design data of refrigeration system can be offered by performing the optimization of these variables. Also, the feasibility of this refrigeration system proposed in this paper was obtained by analyzing operating characteristics of the system bypassing hot-gas to evaporator inlet.

Appropriate numerical models for the simulation of off-gas flow in hot area of the vitrification plant have been developed in this study. The models have been applied to analyze the effect of design parameters of real plant and numerical analyses have been performed for CCM(Cold Crucible Melter), pipe cooler and HTF(High Temperature Filter). At first, the effect of excess oxygen and the ratio of oxygen distribution on combustion characteristics in the CCM has been studied. Next, solidification behavior of radio nuclide in the pipe cooler has been numerically modeled and scrutinized. Finally, flow pattern in accordance with the location of off-gas entrance of the HTF has been compared.

The performance characteristics of water-chilling heat pump using $CO_2$ with respect to variation of refrigerant charge amount was investigated experimentally. An experimental apparatus is consisted of a compressor, a gas cooler, an expansion valve, an evaporator and a liquid receiver. All heat exchangers used in the test rig are counter-flow-type heat exchangers with concentric dual tubes, which are made of copper. The gas cooler and the evaporator consist of 6 and 4 straight sections respectively arranged in parallel, each has 2400 mm length. The experimental results summarize as the followings : As the refrigerant charge ratio of $CO_2$ heat pump system increases, the discharge pressure and compressor ratio increases, but mass flow rate of refrigerant decreases. Also the compressor work increases with the increase of refrigerant charge ratio. However, the heating and cooling capacity of $CO_2$ heat pump decreases as the refrigerant charge ratio increases. The maximum heating COP of $CO_2$ heat pump system presented at 0.25 refrigerant charge ratio. It is possible to confirm the optimum charge ratio of $CO_2$ heat pump system by the viewpoint of heating COP.

A kinetmatic stirling engine with a domed heater was designed, fabricated and test. In designing and fabrication of the engine various problems were confronted and solved. Among various parts of the engine, cooler and main seal needed sophisticated techniques to fabricated in order to prevent leakage of working gas from the parts and to ensure their proper functions in the engine. The engine had a series of experiment at various working gas pressure, heater temperatures and engine speeds to evaluate its performance. Indicated and brake power outputs and indicated and brake thermal efficiencies were determined from the experimental data. The engine resulted a little inferior performance to that of the GPU-3 engine of which performance was well reported . Several recommendations were made to improve the performance of the engine during the evaluation of its performance.
To develop domestic IGCC gasification technology, a gasification test bed with a capacity of 20 tons/day has been designed. The main components of the test bed designed are a coal pulverizing and feeding facility, a gasifier, a syngas cooler, a gas treatment unit, oxygen and nitrogen tanks, and flare stack. For wide applications to the development of advanced coal gasification technology, many special functions have been given to it such as syngas recirculation, char recirculation, and multiple stage gasification. The test bed will be used for testing the characteristics of various types of coals, deriving optimum conditions for efficient gasifier operation and trouble shooting for the Korea IGCC demonstration plant. It will also be applied as a useful tool to develop scale-up design technology of IGCC and proceed to commercialization.

This study aims to gain the design data through the process design of the organic Rankine cycle, which can produce 250kW of electric power through waste heat recovery. In this study, a simulation was conducted using APSEN HYSYS to make the model for the process design of the 250kW-class waste heat recovery system. For the thermodynamic model, the test was conducted with hot water as the heat source, the water steam as the cooling water for the cooler, and the refrigerant R245FA in the cycle. In the final design, it was expected and found from the simulation that the cycle efficiency was 12.62% and that 250kW of power was produced considering the margin of 80%.
Compressed natural gas has a high octane number and low particulate emission characteristics as compared with petroleum-based fuels, so it can respond to exhaust gas regulations positively. A natural gas engine has been introduced to improve the quality of the atmosphere, a diversity of fuel, a stable supply, and it has widely been used in city buses and garbage trucks. Recently, the natural gas engine has received attention by overcoming the disadvantage of the theoretical air-fuel ratio method through the development of EGR cooler and engine parts with the development of LP-EGR technology. In this study, we try to develop the cogeneration system that can simultaneously generate electric power and heat by remodeling the gasoline engine to the mixer type CNG engine. As a result, it was able to reduce the NOx (approximately 77%) compared to the diesel engines with same displacement.
