  • A major problems of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) is torque ripple which causes undesirable acoustic noise and vibration. To reduce the torque ripple two different approaches are used. One is to modify a motor geometry, the other is to manipulate motor current to improve performance. This paper presents modifications of the rotor pole shape which reduces the torque ripple.

  • The problem addressed in this paper is the accurate tracting of a dynamic target using outputs from a forward - looking infrared(FLIR) sensor as measurements. The important variations are 1) the spread of the target intensity pattern in the FLIR image plane, 2) target motion characteristics, and 3) the rms value and both spartial and temporal correlation of the back - ground noise. Based on this insights. design modifications and on - line adaptation copabilities are incorporated to enable this type of filter track highly maneuverable targets such as air-to-air missiles, with spatially distributed and changing image intensity profiles, against, background clutter.

  • This paper deals with the teletext systems with processing the Hangul which is compatible with the NABTS. The Hangul set was included in the graphic-set repertory of the 7bit in-use table and the synthesis method was used to process the Hangul codes. The Hangul in the Teletext systems by the NABTS is possible to use DRCS method, but the transmission delay problem has occurred in that case. As a result, all the programs within the NABTS format are possible to use without any modifications in this systems.

  • Response surface method is employed in optimizing the acoustic performance of automotive engine-cooling axial fans. The effects of modifications in blade geometry on noise reduction are investigated. Taking the far-field noise level as the objective, a quadratic response surface is constructed utilizing D-Optimality condition as the candidate-points selection criteria. It is shown that the quadratic model exhibits an excellent fitting capability resulting in the blade design with low far-field noise level.

  • The present study introduces and describes the characteristics of the spiral guide and groove body cyclones for the first time. The spiral guide was set inside the cyclone body or the inside of the cyclone body was grooved circumferentially or vertically. Except for the cyclone body, all configurations were the same. The particle collection efficiency for a conventional cyclone (Figure 1) was measured under a series of flow rates ranging from 15 L/min up to 80 L/min, and was compared with that yielded using existing theories. • The modeling of realistic water-jet geometry is needed in order to facilitate the design modifications. The present paper proposes a method of generating inlet geometry. Inlet duct was represented by NURBS method which utilized the skinning and local cubic interpolation scheme. Three test examples are presented demonstrating the effectiveness of the methods of skinning and local cubic interpolation. Computational examples associated with practical configurations have shown the usefulness of the present method.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop questions for fashion design development, by applying 7 elements of the scamper to the fashion design elements, and to present a scamper checklist of fashion design elements, and item structures. In this study, the scope of research was limited to clothing design among various fashion products, and among various design development stages. Fashion design development focusing on design sketching, was limited to the research scope. The research method was based on an empirical study that derived scamper questions through FGI (Focus Group Interview), consisting of 5 fashion experts. Fashion design elements applied to development of scamper questions consisted of silhouettes, constructive lines, structural details, decorative details, patterns and textures of fabrics, and item structures, derived by applying these elements to the individual 7 elements of the scamper: substitute, combine, adjust, modify, put to other uses, eliminate, and reverse. Results of the study included 7 questions for substituting, 8 questions for combining, 6 questions for applying, 15 questions for modifying, 4 questions for putting to other uses, 4 questions for eliminating, and 7 questions for reversal. The scamper checklist for fashion design elements and item structures drew to 5 lists of silhouette variations, 7 lists of constructive line variations, 11 lists of structural detail variations, 10 lists of decorative detail variations, 11 lists of fabric variations, and 9 lists of structural modifications of items.

  • In order to help decision-makers in the early design phase to improve and make more cost-efficient system safety and reliability baselines of aircraft design concepts, a method (Multi-objective Optimization for Safety and Reliability Trade-off) that is able to handle trade-offs such as system safety, system reliability, and other characteristics, for instance weight and cost, is used. Multi-objective Optimization for Safety and Reliability Trade-off has been developed and implemented at SAAB Aeronautics. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how the implemented method might work to aid the selection of optimal design alternatives. The method is a three-step method: step 1 involves the modelling of each considered target, step 2 is optimization, and step 3 is the visualization and selection of results (results processing). The analysis is performed within Architecture Design and Preliminary Design steps, according to the company's Product Development Process. The lessons learned regarding the use of the implemented trade-off method in the three cases are presented. The results are a handful of solutions, a basis to aid in the selection of a design alternative. While the implementation of the trade-off method is performed for companies, there is nothing to prevent adapting this method, with minimal modifications, for use in other industrial applications.

  • Among many kinds of parts for Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), a Back Light Unit (BLU) that changes the path of the light from light source to screen is the most important part to improve optical performances such as uniformity and average value of brightness. Up to recently, design process of BLU has been carried out by depending on the experience of design engineer. Using this approach, however, is proven that it is hard to effectively deal with difficulties in a process of the LCD development such as frequent design modifications, various design requirements, and short-term development. To cope with this situation, we applied a Process Integration and Design Optimization (PIDO) based design environment. PIDO is a software package to integrate multiple simulation processes and find a better solution using various design techniques. In this research, we found a design solution satisfying all design requirements by using the PIDO.

  • To guarantee the proper functions of a satellite in the extreme space environment, the several test models are developed generally. There are advantages that the design and the analysis of Flight Model(FM) can be validated through these test models, and the functional reliabilities can be increased by reflecting the modifications on the final design of FM. The integration and test of Structure & Thermal Model(STM) of KOMPSAT, being currently developed, have been completed. In this paper, the processes of design and analysis of the STM propulsion system, one of the KOMPSAT modules, are described.
