To modularize the joints of Hanok, the bending strengths of butterfly joints between pre-cut and manual member were compared. Structural size joints were manufactured and the length, width and thickness of each tenon were produced with different sizes. The ultimate load of pre-cut members was 2 times higher than that of manual members. Degree of anchorage for the joints on pre-cut member was also superior to that of manual member. By the F-test results, a great influence between ultimate load and sizes of tenon was found. In result of multiple regression analysis, the length and thickness of tenon were showed proportion relationships with the ultimate load, but the width of tenon was showed inverse proportion with the ultimate load. The results of this study can be used to identify the relationships among the major influence factors. Futhermore, it might be used as basic data for modularization the joints of Hanok.
For quantitative evaluation of wooden structures, the mechanical performance of members has undergone outdoor exposure tests. A year-long monitoring was conducted using an SPF species. Test groups were divided into twelve (each month) to measure the moisture content, density and ultimate load. Starting from May when moisture content of the test group was at the lowest, simple failure modes were observed more frequently during the first half of the experiment, whereas complex failure modes took over during the second half. Starting from June when moisture content of the test group was the highest, ultimate load decreased by 30% in the second half compared to the first half. A multiple regression analysis confirmed that moisture content of the test group was the variable with most effect on ultimate load of various outdoor variables, and an estimation equation of a simple regression analysis revealed that moisture content and ultimate load formed an inversely proportionate relationship. It is thought that correlational relationships of variables other than moisture content could be applied with the increase in added data amount by longer periods of outdoor exposure tests.
An iterative numerical computational algorithm is presented to design a plate or shell element subjected to membrane and flexural forces. Based on equilibrium consideration, equations for capacities of top and bottom reinforcements in two orthogonal directions have been derived. The amount of reinforcement is determined locally, i.e., for each sampling point, from the equilibrium between applied and internal forces. Based on nonlinear analyses performed in a hyperbolic cooling tower, the analytically calculated ultimate load exceeded the design ultimate load from 50% to 55% for an analysis with relatively low to high tension stiffening, cases $\gamma$=10 and 15. For these cases, the design method gives a lower bound on the ultimate load with respect to Lower bound theorem, This shows the adequacy of th current practice at least for this cooling tower shell case studied. To generalize the conclusion more designs - analyses should be reformed with different shell configurations.
Ship are typically thin-walled structures and consists of stiffened plate structure by purpose of required design load and weight reduction etc. Also, a hull structural characteristics are often used in structures with curvature at deck plating with camber, side shell plating at fore and aft parts and bilge circle parts, It have been believed that these structures can be modelled fundamentally by a part of cylinder. Structural component with curvature subjected to combined loading regimes and complex boundary conditions, which can potentially collapse due to buckling. Hence, for more rational and safe design of ship structures, it is crucial importance to better understand the interaction relationship of the buckling and ultimate strength for cylindrically curved plate under these load components. In this study, the ultimate strength characteristic of curved plate under combined load(lateral pressure load + axial compressive load) are investigated through using FEM series analysis with varying geometric panel properties.
Ship have cutout inner bottom and girder and floor etc. Ship's structure is used much, and structure strength must be situated, but establish new concept when high stress interacts sometimes fatally the area. There is no big problem usually by aim of weight reduction, a person and change of freight, piping etc.. Because cutout's existence grow up in this place, and elastic buckling strength by load causes large effect in ultimate strength. Therefore, stiffened perforated plate considering buckling strength and ultimate strength is one of important design criteria which must examine when decide structural concept at initial design. Therefore, md, reasonable buckling strength about stiffened perforated plate need to ultimate strength limited design . Calculated ultimate strength varied several web height and cutout's dimension, and thickness in this investigated data. Used program(ANSYS) applied F.E.A code based on finite element method

Experimental investigation and finite element analysis of corroded cold-formed steel (CFS) columns are presented. 11 tensile coupon specimens and 6 stub columns of corroded CFS that had a channel section of C160x60x20 were subjected to monotonic tensile tests and axial compression tests, respectively. The degradation laws of the mechanical properties of the tensile coupon specimens and stub columns were analysed. An appropriate finite element model for the corroded CFS columns was proposed and the influence of local corrosion on the stability performance of the columns was studied by finite element analysis. Finally, the axial capacity of the experimental results was compared with the predictions obtained from the existing design specifications. The results indicated that with an increasing average thickness loss ratio, the ultimate strength, elastic modulus and yield strength decreased for the tensile coupon specimens. Local buckling deformation was not noticeable until the load reached about 90% of the ultimate load for the non-corroded columns, while local buckling deformation was observed when the load was only 40% of the ultimate load for the corroded columns. The maximum reduction of the ultimate load and critical buckling load was 57% and 81.7%, respectively, compared to those values for the non-corroded columns. The ultimate load of the columns with web thickness reduced by 2 mm was 53% lower than that of the non-corroded columns, which indicates that web corrosion most significantly affects the bearing capacity of the columns with localized corrosion. The results predicted using the design specifications of MOHURD were more accurate than those predicted using the design specifications of AISI.
Taking into account the geometrical and material nonlinearities, an ultimate behavior of reinforced concrete cooling tower shell in hyperbolic configuration is presented. The design wind pressures suggested in the guidelines of the US (ACI) and Germany (VGB), with or without the effect of internal suction, are employed in the analysis to examine the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of each design wind pressure. The geometrical nonlinearity is incorporated by the Green-Lagrange strain tensor. The nonlinear features of concrete, such as the nonlinear stress-strain relation in compression, the tensile cracking with the smeared crack model, an effect of tension stiffening, are taken into account. The biaxial stress state in concrete is represented by an improved work-hardening plasticity model. From the perspective of quality of wind pressures, the two guidelines are determined as highly correlated each other. Through the extensive analysis on the Niederaussem cooling tower in Germany, not only the ultimate load is determined but also the mechanism of failure, distribution of cracks, damage processes, stress redistributions, and mean crack width are examined.
This study examined the structural behaviors and ultimate loads of assembled system scaffolds by load tests. Considering the number of bay and bracing installation, four specimens were tested. The bays were divided into 1 bay and 2 bays, with and without the bracing member installed. Failure modes and horizontal displacements show that the whole column buckled without showing no point of inflection in the column, regardless of whether or not braces were installed. Thus, the current design method of selecting the vertical spacing between the horizontal members of the system scaffold as the effective buckling length underestimates the effective buckling length. In case of 1 bay specimens, the ultimate loads between specimens with and with bracing members are similar. However, in case of 2 bay specimens, the specimen with bracing members shows the increased ultimate load of 36% compared with that without bracing members. In addition, as the number of bays in the system scaffold increases, the ultimate load of the unit vertical column increases in case of the specimen with bracing installation. However, in the specimen without bracing members, the ultimate load of the unit column reduces with the increment of the number of bays due to the torsional buckling. Therefore, it is essential to install bracing members to increase the whole strength of system scaffolds and the ultimate load of the unit column.
