  • This paper deals with an example of the engineering education through the SE-based development of an underwater-robot kit model. It has a purpose of establishing the example of a SE-based development by undergraduate through executing the requirement and functional analysis, hardware and software design, manufacturing, test and evaluation for developing the model. In addition, it also has a purpose of establishing the basis of the development of an optimized underwater-robot kit through understanding the weight and buoyancy characteristics and the actuation and propulsion characteristics of the developed model.

  • Diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) which has high physical flexibility, various colors, low viscosity, high stability is used as coating material in ballon, vinyl ink, tent, textile, home and cars interior design and electric cable. In rodents, DIDP is suspected to be a peroxisome proliferator, a nongenotoxic carcinogen. In this study, we performed the carcinogenicity test of DIDP. (omitted)

  • In order to numerically evaluate automotive hydro-formed DP-steel tubes on crash performance considering welding heat effects, the finite element simulations of crash behavior were performed for hydro-formed tubes with and without heat treatment effects. This work involves the mechanical characterization of the base material and the HAG-welded zone as well as finite element simulations of the crash test of hydro-formed tubes with welded brackets and hydro-forming of tubes. The welding heat effects on the crash performance are evaluated in efforts to improve the process optimization procedure of the engine cradle in the design stage. In particular, FEM simulations on indentations have been performed and experimentally verified for material properties of weld zone and heat affected zone.

  • Provisions for ACI 318-02 and NZS 3101 pertaining to shear design of shear walls evaluated the applicability of high-strength, concrete shear walls subjected to lateral loads. Results of 73 tests of reinforced concrete shear walls were reviewed. Evaluation of test results conducted in Korea, England, America, Japan, and Australia for low-aspect ratio walls indicates that the nominal unit shear strength($\phi$=1.0) calculated using the provisions of ACI and NZS does not represent the observed shear strength well. Based on the limited database considered in this study, a reasonable lower bound to the shear strength of high-strength concrete shear walls is found to be $\sqrt[0.4]{f_{cu}}$ MPa. Similar to that of normal strength concrete walls, the rate of increase of the measured shear strength with $$\rho$_n/ㆍf_y$ is less than 1.0. Therefore, the rate of increase of shear strength attributable to the web reinforcement in shear walls appears to be overestimated by the modified truss analogy.

  • This paper presents the design of a smart A/D conversion interface used for measuring the load of a truck. Since the load-cell sensor to be used is very sensitive for weight variation, the interface board must have the low-drift and the A/D conversion for accuracy. A new integrator and comparator has been developed to reduce the offset voltage and the drift current of operational amplifiers and has been adapted into the interface board. Also, a software algorithm has been developed to obtain the stable and accrurate A/D conversion. This software includes a RS-485 communication program to control the interface, which gives a capability of backing-up the calibration data and transferring control data. The test and evaluation of the designed interface has been shown as having the better performance compared to the other types of existing weighing systems and sensor instruments.

  • 경량전철 시스템은 통합시스템으로 시험의 종류 및 방법이 다양하여 기존의 열차 계측 시스템은 계측기마다 별도로 시험하고. 각각의 계측기마다의 계측데이터를 취합하여 각 계측 데이터별로 비교 분석하여야 함으로 열차의 주행을 시험항목에 따라 열차를 여러번 운행, 동작등, 반복을 피하기 위하여 시스템을 통합하여 체계적으로 시험하기 위한 방안으로 계측시스템의 구축이 필요함에 따라 채널의 추가 및 삭제가 용이한 분산계측 시스템으로 무선 랜을 이용하여 거리 및 위치의 한계를 극복하고 주행 중인 열차의 차상 및 지상의 Data를 통합하여 측정하며 측정채널의 시간동기를 맞추어 측정함으로 Data 분석 시 채널간의 비교가 용이하도륵 시스템의 설계를 하였다.

  • Liquid-immersed pole transformers have utilized an insulation system consisting of natural cellulose-based materials and mineral oil for many years. If the transformers are installed with the abruptly changing load over limitation, its insulation materials are apt to unexpected aging with high temperature. Therefore we have been conscious of developing a transformer that is more thermally stable then conventional types. To measure temperature distribution in the winding of conventional and newly designed transformers, temperature sensors were installed fordirect reading of oil and conductor temperatures at transformers. And we conducted accelerating aging test for these transformers. The measuring data had made use of the design to hybrid insulation system. Also we could find the possibility of this insulation system to apply in pole mounted transformers.

  • In this paper, we suggested new network architecture to provide seamless service between the cellular system and new wireless broadband network such as IEEE 802.16e, called WiBro. The interworking technologies are very important issue because mobile operator should provide service connectivity between various wireless networks based on different access technologies. Moreover a change and modification on legacy network should be minimized for providing interworking with new wireless broad-band network. We implemented proposed interworking architecture between 3G cellular network and 802.16e network to provide seamless service including interworking unit in real test environment. Also, we performed performance evaluation in hybrid network environments.

  • A rig was constructed to test the performance characteristics and compare the hydraulic forces exerted on a centrifugal type artificial heart impeller. A conventional shaft. seal and bearing system. while driven by a small electric motor. supported the impeller which was separated from the pump casing by a six degree of freedom force transducer (JR3 Ine). Radial (x. y) and axial (z) hydraulic forces were recorded and compared. At physiological operating conditions. the results indicate that the double entry/exit centrifugal pump encounters a smaller radial force and significantly reduced axial thrust. These experimental results are valuable in the design of a magnetic bearing system to suspend the impeller of a centrifugal artificial heart pump. This experimental technique may also be applied to evaluate the required capacity and predict the lifetime of contact bearings in marine pumps.

  • A scratch tester was developed to evaluate the adhesive strength at interface between thin-film and substrate(silicon wafer). Under force control, the scratch tester can measure the normal and the tangential forces simultaneously as the probe tip of the equipment approaches to the interface between thin-film and substrate of wafer. The capacity of each component of force sensor is 0.1 N ${\sim}$ 100 N. In addition, the tester can detect the signal of elastic wave from AE sensor(frequency range of 900 kHz) attached to the probe tip and evaluate the bonding strength of interface. Using the developed scratch tester, the feasibility test was performed to evaluate the adhesive strength of thin-film.
